Came here for some breakfast. I was greeted good morning by the cashier. This place is very nice, pretty quiet and lots of seating. You don't get seated right away here btw. The menus are at the register, you must choose what you want and order it at the register before you take a seat. Basically you order then sit wherever you want and wait for them to bring it out to you. I ordered the honey butter pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon. I also ordered a cappuccino. The food came out slamming pancakes were very fluffy and delicious! Eggs were on point and not runny or dry. The bacon came out A+ not greasy and lots of flavor. The cappuccino presentation and flavor was A+ as well. Definitely coming back to this place again! read more

I've been a customer at their other locations for a few years now and definitely appreciate their pastries, coffee, and breakfast selections Ambiance: this location looks great for studying or simply enjoying the decor, coffee, and bites. Customer service: hmmmm when we walked in, the barista at the coffee counter did not speak at all. In fact, her attitude was standoffish and she realized that her mouth produces sound after we kept asking several clarifying questions. Definitely recommend some hospitality training because her attitude compared to the other barista who replaced her when we were leaving the store, was like night and day. Hence my removal of 1 star. Coffee: I love the coffee here because it's always freshly brewed. My boyfriend ordered a white mocha and said that it wasn't anything special, simply okay. Food: we ordered the country style breakfast and the strawberry French toast. Both dishes were phenomenal! The country style breakfast was culinary appeasing on the eye. Very bright colors but even bolder flavors. The eggs were fluffy and light. The grilled tomatoes were juicy and sweet. The bacon and ham were nicely prepared and I heard that the potatoes were delicious (I didn't eat any) The strawberry French toast was top of the list in creaminess and the perfect balance of sweetness. No syrup needed, the strawberry preserve on the side and the rich milky softness inside the French toast was just right. I probably won't return to this location again because customer service is something that I take very seriously and the barista this morning lacked it. With the Virginia winter approaching, For Five Coffee was just the cure for that wind chill and early afternoon slump. My wife and I came over after a great lunch meal and were very pleased with our beverages. Going with the Gotham Mocha (I'm batman) and a Pistachio Latte, we went with the recommended options presented by the baristas. Both were 5/5 delicious, warming, and full of flavor. The atmosphere was a classic, big city coffee house feel with a gorgeous open coffee bar that greets you right as you walk in. Offering hearty pastries and a separate food menu as well, this place is perfect for a sit down, afternoon delight. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and ensure to capture any personal preferences regarding preparation and additives. All around comfy. 5/5 stars and I look forward to coming back next time I'm in town. read more

3 stars due to price. I like for five and they have good coffee and food. My issue is that it is so expensive, literally $9 for an iced latte! If you are willing to pay that, then 4 stars for you. I'm terms of food, I've gotten the avocado toast which was large and came with a side salad. My friend likes to get the yogurt bowl. I've also had the breakfast sandwich which was large and good. This is a different type of cafe altogether because they serve more than just coffee. I was working across the street and I stopped over here for a simple codfee. When I walked in, I noticed a few customers eating a trial full course breakfast meals. Then I saw their complete breakfast and lunch menu by the register. I actually had about an hour to kill, so I went ahead and requested the breakfast burrito breakfast meal. Once I got it, it almost seemed like it was prepared by a chef. The burrito also included a small side salad which was nice. That whole meal along with the coffee was less than $10. The dining room area is three times the size of most regular cafes, which makes it more like a restaurant. I thoroughly enjoyed the burrito. read more

Okay... coming from NYC I simply can't find it in me to complain about a nice big coffee shop with so much seating and table space for people to do work with friends. Like this cafe is just HUGE and beautiful, has tons of options for drinks, pastries, and even an actual food menu. I ordered the BEC, which was packed with all the fillings. I thought the filling was slightly on the mushy side, but the croissant was delicious, and the whole thing was so big that I just can't complain. I also got a caramel latte, which was standard. All in all this is just such a pretty cafe, and I know there are a ton of these, but all that seating and the table space... a student's dream. read more

I came here for a matcha latte in the morning and was drawn to their healthy menu of breakfast and lunch which all items are available all day. Trying to minimize carbs, I ordered the Touasillini (sp?) salad with grilled shrimp and cheese. It looked promising when it came out. The shrimp and the cheese were prepped with just way too much salt. Maybe it's my sensitive CA tastebuds but I don't think so! I have low blood pressure but after all that salt intake, maybe I walked out of there normal. The other thing that I was really surprised about are the service charges which total close to 15% and they ask if you want to add a tip on top of it. Granted, they did have a sign up that says service charge applies. My salad and matcha with tip totaled $33. Expensive for breakfast. The only saving grace is it's a nice space to chill and do work. Honestly not a bad place to sit and do work! I came here one rainy weekend morning to get some work done and satisfy my caffeine addiction, and was pleased with my experience here! The shop is somewhat small, but cozy. I got a cappuccino and the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on a croissant. Both were delicious, but I paid around $25 for those 2 items. $18 for a breakfast sandwich is a bit absurd, even for DC. Despite the price gouging, I would go back for one of their coffee drinks and to enjoy the ambiance of the place. I'd also like to try some of their other locations, but this one was convenient because it was near GW university. read more

Really good/great coffee; I've had lattes, and iced lattes. The baked goods are fresh and yummy, definitely better than the usual coffee house bakery goods. It's a nice cafe to sit in and pretend to work--large windows let in a lot of light, and it's never too busy. My one qualm is the prices. Now, I admit I don't go out for coffee as much as I used to, so i'm unfamiliar with coffee prices at large. But holy crap For Five Coffee is way wicked expensive. Like a cranberry muffin (admittedly huge) and a large iced latte = $17. Kinda pricey, don't you agree? I haven't tried the food since they opened the store, but it wasn't very good then, so I probably won't take that chance unless I hear it's improved. read more

I went to the one on M St in Navy Yard, but they don't have a Yelp page, so I'll give my review here:) I stumbled upon this place when I was in Navy Yard and my partner came and met me. It was very cute with a lot of options. They're known for their big chunky unique cookies. I got the s'mores one and their small-ish spinach and feta spanakopita. The spanakopita was AMAZING! it was fresh and warm and filling. The cookie was so-so. There are better places in DC and I thought it was a little dry, but I enjoyed it and I liked the fun s'mores flavor. However, these 2 items together were $17, which is just RIDICULOUS. It included a 4% service charge and tax of course, but they then had the audacity to ask if I wanted to tip 20. DC is expensive and places like these are luxuries, but I've never seen prices like this. My partner got an iced latte and it was $11. It was large (24oz), but they didn't have size options and even so, I've never seen this price ever. They have limited indoor seating, but a ton of seating outside, which is where I sat. Their seating is very nice. I also liked their staff- they were friendly and recommended the cookie I chose confidently. read more

Only coffee shop I've seen in DC that serves macadamia nut milk--and if you haven't tried macadamia nut milk, BIG MISTAKE. My go-to order is an iced hazelnut latte with macadamia nut milk, half the amount of syrup usually used. 10/10 perfection. Only downside is the price; my latte is $8.50ish (the only reason for a 4 star rather than 5) The bagged cookies are ridiculously good too--do yourself a favor and get the mint chocolate chip cookie. Great seating for work, lots of tables and space. Have never had any issues with service. read more

Sunny in very nice location; if taking Uber/Lyft, it's actually near corner of 20th & Eye NW, given the crazy curves of Pennsylvania Ave. Cross Eye St heading towards 21st St. Right near corner. Sandwiches way overpriced. $20 for bacon, lettuce, avocado on large slices of toast with small side salad is a bit much, even when delivered to the table with your number stand. One latte plus sandwich & scone plus tax, "service fee" & 15% tip was $43! More than I pay for very nice lunch in a full service place with a view! Coffee & scones both good. I'd return for coffee, snack & pleasant work space, but not for sandwiches. read more

As soon as I saw the cookies at For Five Coffee I knew we needed to give it a try. But when we arrived I was pleasantly surprised to find that their menu has so much more to offer. There was a wide variety of people in the cafe from gatherings of friends to individuals working from home, coming together and breaking bread (cookies) over a delicious menu of sweet and savory options. If you're a cookie lover like me, you cannot miss out on trying their s'mores stuffed cookie or the funfetti cookie. I'm so happy to have found a new place to satisfy my sweet tooth. read more

For Five is one of my favorite places to work from when I need a little break from my own apartment! Their lattes are amazing and the food is always delicious. The menu is constantly rotating and the dishes are always super creative. Plenty of open tables but also fairly busy all the time, and outlets pretty much everywhere which is great. read more

This was my first time at For Five Coffee and surely won't be the last! My friend had a content shoot and i tagged along and oh my I fell in love with this spot. The cookies were the first section I spotted and it was love at first sight. Originated from NY, the coffee here is delicious. I tried their latte with almond milk and the flavor was on point. The food here was very tasty and filling. We ordered Avodaise Eggs Benedict BLT, Chimichurri Steak Sandwich, and Oreo Pancakes. For dessert, we had the rainbow cookie and the Nutella filled cookies which were delicious! The aesthetic of the restaurant gave me a feel good vibe and the greenery was a nice touch. Discovered For Five on a recent business trip into DC. The space is lovely, Great vibe. The team was welcoming. Felt like it took a while to get my coffee, but that's really just because we've gotten used to those big brands that crank their products out. Nothing wrong with having to wait for a good espresso beverage. I enjoyed the staff and coffee so much I came in on a Saturday to enjoy a cup and relax a bit before my flight. Again, the staff was welcoming, accommodating and my coffee was tasty. I took a slice of pumpkin chocolate chip bread and a spinach feta pie for my long travel day. The bread was moist, flavorful and amazing. The spinach pie was yummy, too. A bit salty for me, but feta tends to be. Saturday was a busy day, so slightly noisier than a weekday morning, but still, conducive to reading. Will definitely be making this spot my go-to for coffee when in DC. read more

Never going here again and am cautioning others not to go here for food. The café is very charming and coffee is of middling-to-good quality, albeit expensive, even for Foggy Bottom. I used to come here frequently due to the location's convenience, but not anymore due to incredibly poor communication, customer service, and the waste of my money and time. My three friends and I wanted to have a quick brunch at For Five's Pennsylvania Ave location about a week ago, prior to other appointments we had later in the afternoon. We waited over 50 minutes without news for our food, after which a member of our party went up to ask the cashier/barista about our orders. It was about 10 minutes later that two of us got our food. 15 more minutes go by, we ask again, and I get my food. 20 minute more minutes. By then, the first two have long since finished, I just polished off my meal, and the last friend hasn't gotten a scrap. We go up to the barista again - at this point, the only way two of us will get to our respective appointments on time is to Uber instead of walk as originally planned. They check the kitchen, and my friend's meal hasn't even been started. We were given a complimentary coffee and pastry, and a gift card to cover the cost of the food - 26 dollars. Fast forward to today, and my friend and I return to get some coffee. Turns out that gift card wasn't for 26 dollars. It was for 26 CENTS. The rest of the cost came out of pocket and my friend and I left feeling ripped off and angry. Needless to say, I'm not coming back. read more

The atmosphere is ok; the restrooms are beautiful; BUT the food is not so good, and the selections of non-coffee beverages is shameful. I love salmon and cream cheese with capers. When I saw the presentation of the "Loaded Salmon Sriracha Toast" I thought I would treat myself at @21.95. But I sadly disappointed--The yellow of the egg was under cooked as if it was cook in a microwave or electric egg machine. The dressing on the side salad was non- descript; tasteless. The greens of the salad tasted better by itself without the dressing. I took disappointment when having to crape off the sauce underneath the salmon which had been spreaded on the toast too thick. T asked for a thin layer of the sauce. Good old American cream cheese is not so fancy; but in this case would have been better. The toast once free of the overpowering spread was delightful. For Five should consider using another sauce/spread and more capers without the sweet onion on this menu item. All of these different items' favors on the toast together. were an awful tasting car wreck. Though it was pleasant to be able to dine outside the food was not tasteful. Last comment, the menu is not posted where you can see it; it is strategically stacked next to the cash register, so you cannot see food menu item until you stand in line to order. Also, now I know why there is a large, posted sign stating, "absolutely NO Refunds". That should have been my warning sign not to order from the food menu. What reputable food establishment will not stand behind their food served to a customer, by posting such a sign. They must know their food items are not tasty, just down right a waste of money. The reviewer Michelle G is correct the food is not good and I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COFFEE SHOP FOR BREAFAST AND OTHER FOODS. I wish I could have gotten my money back. read more

Have yet to try their coffee, but am in love with their matcha latte, which I've had many times with various plant milks, and always found to be delicious. They also have a large selection of pastries and cookies, as well as a food menu that includes a few vegan and vegetarian options. In a town full of mediocre coffee shops this place is a breath of fresh air. Consistently superb service from staffers like Ken & Amie (who never disappoint), superior products and spotlessly clean, this has become my go to spot and will remain my number one in my book. The Mocha latte is literally perfect. Other beverages and their amazing cookies are equally wonderful. It's a great place to hang out for a bit, whether to visit w/ a friend, touch base w/ a colleague or simply to regroup on a busy day. Five stars are not enough! read more

The coffee is good and I love the stuffed cookies. About 1/2 the time the coffee cup as a slow leak out the bottom which ends up all over my desk. They also seem to have a lot of staff turnover which leads to varying levels of service. This morning I was handed a completely full cup of coffee with no lid and pointed to far end of the bar for the lid, which was not labeled as to which size cup they went with. If I am grabbing a coffee to go I don't want to be handed a cup with no lid. read more

The pastry puff definitely expired before they made it because the actual filling of the item tasted fine. I went to the girl working at the counter to tell her and she said "there's nothing I can do about that".
