I have 3 kids ranging from 6-11 years old and last Sunday we came here and they had fun especially at the Kidtropolis. The crowd wasn't bad considering it's weekend and spring break.My 11 year old has been here several times and I thought that he won't like it as much as before when he was younger but to my surprise he did have fun and mentioned that he wanted to come back. We've been coming for years and my kids love it. We started going when my son was just a few months old to the Tot spot and have since graduated to the downstairs areas for both my kiddos (4 1/2 & 2 1/2). Unfortunately, both my anxiety disorder and my son's sensory issues (due to autism) on a verrrrry crowded Saturday morning wouldn't allow either of us to be able handle our visit. :( My little boy is an escape artist ninja and got away from us in the crowd and I started having a panic attack accordingly. The museum staff was quick to handle the situation and my son was found in the gift shop with a book in a quiet corner (that's my boy) obviously trying to get away from the high sensory input from the crowd and noise. I felt compelled to do the same. ;) they graciously refunded the $40 we spent on admission for our family and we were encouraged to come back for the "sensory friendly" days they have for kiddos on the autism spectrum or with sensory processing disorder, etc. It is so refreshing and delightful to find organizations and businesses that seek inclusion for special needs kids like this one. It gives a feeling of normalcy in lives that are rarely normal. Thank you, CMH. We are forever fans now. read more

Just went here today with my little brother. There were lots of halloween festivities going on, including a little trick or treating (which my little bro was all about). There were lots of great activities for the kids, it was very interactive. My one complaint would have been that it seemed smaller than I imagined, however they packed a lot into the space they had. Definitely would recommend to anyone with kids! read more

I have been here twice in the past week with my 2 yr old, and both times were a ton of fun. I thought I had been through all the exhibits the first time, but I found out today that I hadn't scratched the surface. When I went on Tuesday, it was too crowded. It seemed like every elementary school was there that day. On Saturday though, it was perfect. It was crowded, but not the disorganized chaos of hundreds of elementary school students. Went with my 5 and 2 yr old over Spring Break weekend. We got there early and it was busy but not crazy. Coming from a city with a very small children's museum this one blew us away!!! TheTot Spot was great - they don't let in any child over 3 yrs. I think there is something here for every age. My 2 yr old braved the "pod" thing in the center that they can climb up and down. I had to drag her out once the bigger kids were getting rowdy. Gave only 4 stars because I wasn't crazy about the qualify of the food in the cafe - my kids had corndogs and chicken nuggets, I had the salad. The kids' food didn't look very appetizing so we threw it away after 2 bites. Wish they had pizza or fresh sandwiches to choose from. They do offer popcorn and ice cream outside. Water is $2/bottle too. So make sure you're well fed and hydrated before you go. Bring an extra pair of clothes for your kids if they like to get messy in water exhibit that is outside. I didn't so my little girl had to go around the rest of the day with damp clothes. Overall the exhibits were entertaining for my kids, seemed maintained and fairly clean. Bathrooms were very adequate with plenty of changing tables. My kids can't wait to go back and neither can I! read more

I have recently discovered my love for the Children's Museum of Houston and now I understand why there is always a line to get in! This museum is awesome! I felt like a little kid again and only wished I would have had more time to play. I was there for a private party and there were no children allowed, haha, I know... lucky! There are a lot of interesting little activities going on throughout the museum including: getting a job and cashing in at the bank, playing with water outside, record yourself as a newscaster, playing with lights downstairs among a lot of other things. The party I attended also had drinks, desserts, appetizers and a really fun scavenger hunt but those were added bonuses. I will probably never have the opportunity to enjoy the Children's Museum as much when there are real children there, but I will definitely be taking my nieces and nephews when they are a little older. I definitely recommended you take your kids, it's fun! =) read more

If you live or is visiting Houston and have kids between the ages of 12months-10, you have to visit this place. There is a lot of great stuff to do for the kids. Every time I go something new has been added. They keep the place really clean, and there is more than enough space to move around. The games are educational and fun, and encourage parents to join in. There are 3 floors, and each has a ton of stuff to do. I must say The Houston Museum has it going on. The cool thing is every Thursday it's free between the hours of 5-8. Warning during that time it's super packed. So I suggest going doing off peak hours to avoid the lines and crowds. Honestly, even if you go at busy time your kids will still have a great time. Nothing bad to say here, go check it out you won't be disappointed. read more

First time here in over 7 years. I picked a terrible day to go, but figured we'd try it out for my 4 year olds sake. It was beyond packed, no way to really enjoy it there. There should be a limit on how many people can come in, and if there already is, they need to drastically reduce the number. We stayed for maybe 45 minutes before heading out. The staff that we came into contact with were all friendly though. I'd recommend going on an off day, and my 9 and 11 year old said it was for younger kids, they didn't enjoy it much. read more

Employees seem to be pretty helpful if not always on hand. The kids ALWAYS have a blast and while parking is crowded they make it really easy for people that aren't used to downtown traffic. The kids always have a blast and they tend to update the exhibits that get trashed!! read more

Such a great place!!! The kids loved it and there was SO MUCH to do. It really wore them out but they were able to learn about viscosity, electricity, etc. We had our service dog with us as well and showed proof of her registration but she was an attraction as well. read more

It is one of my niece's favorite places to go when she and I hang out. I suggest if you go often to get a membership though for it will end up paying for itself and then some. The exhibits do change from time to time, so there is normally something new to see each time. Even if not, there is so much to do that you are well entertained without any complaints. Everything has an imagination and education aspect too, which I think is really great. If you can go on a weekday early, then I highly suggest that for other times they tend to be a bit crowded. They also have an entire section, upstairs I believe, for the little ones which was nice when my niece was just learning to walk. Just remember that it is normally closed on Mondays. The exhibits are interesting and there are several play areas for kids to run around. Mostly visit the tot spot and can say that it's such a fun place for my son. It's been a great place and I can't wait for my son to be able to explore it further once he is older. This children's museum was very impressive. I have been to a few children's museums and so far this one is the best. They have hundreds of hands on activities, from science to math and crafts. We were there for 5 hours and still did not have time to see everything. My husband and I even became entertained by the activities. We are from chicago where we have fantastic museums so Im pretty snobby about them. We visit family in houston every year and have been underwhelmed w most of the grown-up museums there. So when we decided to check out the children's museum of Houston I wasnt expecting much. Boy was I wrong. This place is fantastic. They have wonderful exhibits suitable for all ages. Most museums seem to cater more to the little ones while older kids are an afterthought. The CMH had enough to keep my little and big ones engaged for hours. The invention lab alone occupied my older kids for hours. I had to drag them out of there. The staff was also friendly and helpful. I cant say enough great things about this place. read more

I have to say that this "childrens" museum is a great place to have in any city, however they need to do a better job in specifying what age groups it's best for. Not that interesting for a 4 year old and way too boring for a 12 year old. The Kidtropolis section was by far the best area in the entire museum. The outside water section was good too but not much to do. Web pictures look like a super exciting museum truth is, it's an OK museum with very few cool/awesome activities to do. Went to the museum today around 10:45 a.m. We had been to the children's museum in Atlanta and this museum, though full of exhibits (even more so than the Atlanta museum) was below par. It wasn't nearly as crowded as employees there said it usually is, but it was very busy when we went there, and we got there shortly after they first opened for the day. Rather than an open floor plan, which would make it easier to keep an eye on your kids (especially if you have some that you 'set free' to roam and explore because they are older), the museum is broken up into different sections - lots of dividing walls. There was no way I was going to allow my older child to check things out on her own while I explored with the little one. AND considering they DO allow adults in WITHOUT an accompanying child (the adult just has to provide a driver's license), I was a little creeped out. They had many, many exhibits, but because they were divided up into all these different rooms, they felt packed in and very crowded, so you didn't really have a comfortable time reading any of the display information or spending any quality time at the display - it felt like there was always someone breathing down your neck to see what 'your' exhibit was about. Parents were strewn throughout the museum sitting on whatever benches they could find playing with their cell phones or infants, and their children were left wandering around monopolizing exhibits; I prefer to accompany my children through the exhibits and read the information provided so they can learn something. These 'wandering children' left alone seemed to 'take over' areas such as Kidopolis. Parents parked themselves in the 'diner' seating area and let their kids just run wild. It was more of an indoor play area than a hands-on children's museum. Though I didn't bring a toddler, I didn't see much for them. Considering you have to pay regular admission for anyone over 1 year of age, this was a real disappointment. Fortunately, it didn't affect me personally. Except that these small children and their strollers now took up A LOT of space in the other areas where the older (4+) kids were and made things uncomfortable. Where else were the parents with babies to go AND play with all of their children? Very poor planning. I would STRONGLY recommend more staff, not just volunteers, but actual paid staff who could supervise each area so that each child could have their fair turn to participate in each exhibit. I actually encountered a small child, 7/8 years old, who while waiting no more than 15 seconds behind me in line for an 'a.t.m.' in the Kidopolis area, mutter to me that, 'I'm waiting.....'. This child's parents were nowhere nearby. I had to tell him that, 'Well then, you'll have lots of practice doing so, we just got here and are going to be another 15 seconds trying to figure this thing out - as we've not been here before.' Just rude kids all over the place acting like entitled kids who ran it. This was especially in the Kidopolis area. This area really needs staff to help move the kids in and out of each experience. We stayed there for maybe 15 mins. I was extremely disappointed, my younger child would have enjoyed staying longer but the kids were just too rude. More staff to supervise the exhibits. Inside and outside. Signage advising parents to supervise their children and recommend participating in the exhibits with them. Many things weren't working well or were flat-out broken. I'm guessing that kids running up to exhibits and pulling/pushing things without knowing what they are doing, will lead to that. And the rest of us miss out on what might have been a great exhibit. More things for toddlers. And finally, the climbing net thing that runs 3 stories. My children were MOST excited about this. The website says it is for 5 years and up. Staff told me just about anyone could go on it. I wasn't setting my children free on it after watching the kids act as wild as they are so I did it with them. SO glad I did. There is no indication inside the climbing area of an 'up' or 'down'. The platforms are in many areas less than 2 feed apart vertically so you have to climb on your stomach to get out from under one and up onto another. I could only imagine a child climbing up while another is rambunctiously jumping down - RIGHT onto the neck of the child beneath him. So, when we went I had to lead the way. Not easy at all in some of those tight spaces. Definitely needs supervising staff. ALL IN ALL, I won't be back. Fortunately I got my tickets through Groupon so I paid a discounted price. I would never consider paying full price after what we experienced today. And for anyone wondering about the food rule - no bringing in outside food? So many people did. Especially women with strollers and 'diaper' bags. At least you could bring in a few packages of granola bars or something. Good luck! read more

This place is huge. We really enjoyed the American Ninja Warrior exhibit. Bring extra clothes for the water features outside. Friday of spring break was somewhat overwhelming. I'd go back because we didn't get to explore half of the museum, but during an off peak time. Parking was a flat $10, which was contrary to what the website read; I assume that increase was special Spring Break pricing. read more

Great place to take kids on a rainy day. It was really crowded and somewhat cramped on space. The activities were interesting for our toddler. There was a lot more for kids who are older. Our daughter gravitated to their lovely library that was quiet and had s beautiful dollhouse. Park on the street for 2$ an hour instead of $6 an hour in their garage. read more

If you are looking for a place for the kids to loose themselves in multi sensory education this is it. I have always taken my kiddos here and each time we can find a new spot to easily spend hours. Don't try to explore the whole thing in one day, let your kids guide you and you will enjoy it more too. There are multiple ways to get in free which makes this one the top of my list. Visited Tuesday! 3/14 and it was beyond crowded! There has got to be a cut off of how many people can enter 'safely'. We were there 30 minutes, couldn't do anything - I went to front to ask for refund and a child had been injured and was bleeding being rushed out. I left with my kids.
