Our experience at the Scottish Rite ER was beyond unacceptable. They would not do an MRI of my son's foot (in which he tore his Achilles tendon). They refused to do an MRI at an emergency room and that is not the right kind of care one would expect to receive when using an ER for this kind of injury. This was the sole reason for our visit and was a total waste of our time, money and treatment. read more

This time was a two hour visit with a blood test and iv fluids...$5000!!!! My oldest had an issue and I took him to a normal emergency room. There they examined him and diagnosed him but could not treat him due to his age... they directed us here. Once here they took us back immediately and took a look. It was determined that he would need to stay so they got us in a room. The room was nice, the people were great, the doctors and nurses were all professional but also empathetic. They were very diligent and took their time to explain to us what was going on and what the steps were as well as possible future steps. Honestly when you're in the hospital for one of your children it is nerve racking enough! The way they approached everything really helped to keep us in the know and made it much easier to handle. In the end we got the best possible outcome from the excellent care they provided and the next day we were able to go home with everything better. I really appreciate this place! read more

It's been a bad experience from the start. TC Thompson children's hospital had to send us to CHoA due to the specialist we needed to see will not be in Chattanooga until September. An "urgent" referral was sent to CHoA. After a week the doctor from Chattanooga called the kids plastics department to remind them they had an "urgent" referral. They stated that the patient's family will have to call for the appointment. It took 2 days of calling for them to make the appointment for the kids plastics department. When we get here all they have is paid parking so We asked for parking validation and the lady at the front just said heres the sign to tell you how to pay. Again we stated we need it validated. as She looked at us like we was dumb stated we don't validate parking! So I asked where are we supposed to park to be a patient here? She said I can't tell you where to park but you have to pay. So to be a patient here you have to pay an extra $8.00 to park. thank God I have the money but what if....... what if it's a medicaid patient that doesn't have an extra $8.00 for parking but still needs their child to be seen? This is sad that the hospital bills isn't high enough they charge you like you are parking your car at the airport! They are taking advantage of someone's miss fortune. Then let's talk about how they asked for the CD from Chattanooga..... well CHoA has had the referral for over a week now!!! Why have they not requested this before the appointment time! Called to reschedule an appointment at 1:23PM due to a email letting me know the Doctor had a change in his schedule, which happens, no problem, the receptionist that answered could only find a appointment at the end of August, MONTHS after my 26weeker micropreemie with chronic lung disease was due to be seen to get his medications re-evaluated for his weight and dosage. The receptionist came back on the line that she found a appointment for the same day ( today ) at 2:00pm, I live 45mins away, I was very clear with the receptionist and even put in my gps for a accurate eta, the receptionist assured me as long as I was there within their 20minute grace period for appts there would be no issue, never have I ever been late or had to use a "grace" period for such a important appointment. Ever. I was putting my phone in my bag walking into the office and the time on my phone said 2:18, I went straight to the receptionist to check in, where she delightfully informed the S Arounnarath, NP had informed her she wouldn't see us since we were late, how had she already informed her before we were by their standards "late"? After explaining the whole situation and how I was informed to come not even a hour before the receptionist said she would go and ask the "provider" if she could see us. She returned, with once again happily informing me, no they couldn't see my son, also, the screen savers on the monitors behind her clearly showed the time as 2:21pm while I waited on her to explain it to the nurse. How did I have time to explain it all to her and her to hesitantly agree to ask the nurse to see my son if we were truly late and the time as we waited for that was 2:21pm? With all the appointments that come with a micropreemie, I have NEVER experienced anything like I did today. Also, there was no wait at all in the pulmonologist waiting area, nor did one patient come in or leave as we waited, and I didn't leave until 2:50pm while trying to explain my experience in hopes to have my sons medicines updated as we were at the office at the time we were told we could be seen. S Arounnarath, NP, how can you be a advocate for babies with these life long issues and CHOA holds such high standards, I pray you don't have to worry of your child can breathe or if the wheezing can be controlled, or if you need to head to the hospital to chance catching something even worse for their compromised little bodies. Today was supposed to be a joyful day as we headed to our favorite restaurant for lunch. Unfortunately, the waiter placed a hot, boiling bowl of soup in front of our 11-month-old baby (his first birthday is in just three days). He instinctively grabbed the bowl and was burned. We acted quickly and rushed him to CHOA for urgent care. This was our first time visiting CHOA. While I had heard great things from my colleagues, I was truly disappointed by the experience we had. We also had our toddler with us. Due to hospital policy, he was not allowed in, so my wife stayed with him while I took our baby into Room 36. I informed the staff that I am an internal medicine physician. The ER doctor and Nurse Catherine were kind, professional, and explained everything clearly. For that, we are sincerely grateful. However, I had a distressing encounter with a male registrar. He introduced himself and told me he would be asking several questions, which he assumed I would easily know. At that moment, I was extremely distraught, watching my baby cry in pain. I tried to answer as best I could, but I didn't have our insurance information on hand--my wife, who had the card, was outside with our other child. I explained this to the registrar and said she would bring the card in as soon as she was allowed to come back. Despite this, he rushed me and gave me a condescending smirk, making me feel like we were being judged as if we were uninsured or unable to pay. When the ER doctor came in to check on my baby, the registrar stepped out, but he later returned and asked again about our insurance and my child's primary care provider. I was still so distressed I couldn't recall the exact name, but I did manage to tell him we go to Wellstar Cobb Pediatrics. Both encounters with this registrar were marked by a rude tone, lack of empathy, and unprofessional behavior. Eventually, I told him that his attitude was inappropriate, especially in a pediatric emergency setting where families are already overwhelmed and emotional. I requested to speak with the Voice of the Customer Director, ER Director, Chief of Staff, and VMPA, and if needed, the CEO. Later, the registrar's supervisor and a representative from the Voice of the Customer team came to listen to my concerns and gave me a card to call and raise my concerns. I want to emphasize how deeply upsetting it was to feel as though insurance status was prioritized over compassionate care. This experience made us feel less valued and unfairly judged at a moment when we needed understanding and support the most. While I understand this might not reflect CHOA's overall values, I strongly urge that staff--especially registrars--receive further training in empathetic communication and trauma-informed care. Families in crisis should not be made to feel shamed or rushed, particularly when caring for an injured infant. read more

Spoke to a "supervisor" who was passive aggressive and told me I should use google when I was asking for help in trying reach Developmental Pediatrics, which apparently they do not have. Very sad that those who claim to want to help Children make it so incredibly difficult to establish care. I had visited the Children's ER previously and my son received wonderful care there, but definitely not a holistic experience I guess. Also, don't list numbers for specific departments and then have people answer only to ask you "which department?". Do better. read more

This hospital is 5 stars. Dr Graves is heaven sent. As a parent when your child is sick your anxiety and emotions are high. This hospital for sure easy that for my wife and I. From answering every question with real answers not the run around. We came in at 10:30pm was in a room in 15 mins. Every single person was helpful and friendly the entire time. Not the fake friendly it was the warm and genuine we love our job type of attitude. Nobody seem over worked. We didn't have to make them take test. They offered it to us unlike other hospitals that sent us home with no answers. Children's healthcare as a whole are inconsiderate and have no idea what parents go through they think from the minds of wealthy people with no children or perfectly healthy children they don't think about single parents who work and instead of offering us help through other resources they call Defax on me. I have a 12 year old who I has type 1 diabetes our life has been altered and difficult since her diagnosis but I work my behind off every day to make sure she has what she needs and gets her medicine they think a live in a community where people help and that's just not my reality but instead of seeing from my point and offering people to help they just made my life harder for no reason. They didn't help my daughter they didn't make anything easier they made it worse and I will never use them again! read more

Came in bc my sons pediatrician was concerned about a clicking sound his hips made during an exam so we were referred to come to CHOA for X-rays. Parking was a bit confusing at first bc you can't really see the signage good on where to turn into the parking garage and just like every other hospital in Atlanta parking isn't free. (Something I'll never understand bc where I'm from hospital parking is free) I had to go through 3 check in desks before we were taken back to get the X-rays done. The first being the front desk when you first walk in which is security the men were extremely nice and considerate. Second check in was to my left and the women here took my insurance info and background information so instead of filling out a bunch of paperwork I pretty much verbally gave all the info at this point. After being cleared I was sent over to the radiology area which was luckily right across the hall checked in with their desk filled out some forms and after 10 minutes of waiting was called back. The radiologists were so gentle with my 6 month old and they explained everything in detail I'm sure they could sense how nervous I was about everything but they were calm and made sure to answer anything that possibly came to mind before I left. One of the techs even walked me down to the elevators on my way out still telling me information to be aware of. How do you expect for a baby to let you touch them when you are treating them poorly and being very aggressive. Compared to the nurses who were nice on her. I hate that I brought our daughter here for treatment I thought this was a children's hospital and the dr. Kathleen doesn't have any answers for any questions you have and she was very rude from the time she entered the room she was highly upset because I asked her to put on gloves while touching my sick child and she yelled and said I washed my hands and I'm like you used his sanitizer and again can you please put on gloves and she responded back with whatever!!!!!!! I'm here in the ER with my mentally challenged son and CHOA keeps blaming the state of GA for them not having the proper resources for mentally challenged kids. The psychologist and ER Doctor are say CHOA don't treat yhe mental side of DIGEORGE syndrome. However they claim to have a clinic that provides treatment. I asked for an evaluation they suggested I consult with my sons school. To my understanding is the ONLY treat the medical side and not the mental side. My son has been in their care for over 3 years and they are just beginning to tell me this. This is sad and the state of GA really needs to do better. My 12 year old son was referred by his pediatrician to have a day procedure. Parking was a nightmare, but get there early to park in hospital parking lot. The service was impeccable. Very clean. They calmed his anxiety with explaining to him every step of the way what was going on, what was about to happen, and how to care for his self (& I had instructions as well). There was a rehab dog name Chocolate who came around and his caretaker was very friendly. The doctors and nurses communicated very well with each other, which made our stay quick! Hopefully this is helpful for someone to know that they provide great care. read more

hello,i want to file a complained about johnson md, m mobbs, np im the mother of eshter heramia i was bussy out of town and i told my mother to take my daughter esther to the e.r or urgent care clinic because her pediatrician had called us with the lab reports and told me that the bump in my daughters eyes is not a stye it's probably a cyst and it's spreading because now she has one in both eyes. we had already tried sty remedies and her pediatrician and i knew it was not a stye. the second weird symptom my daughter has a positional head ache every time she moves her head she gets a head ache. when she's sittin down or laying down and stand up she get immediate head ache like sometime is hitting her on the head. the head ache started at the same time as the cysts that are located inside her eye lids. my daughter should of been an emergency and taken series she wrote down in a piece paper what was going on her doctor and nurse practioner did not listen or read the paper they told my daughter she has a symple stye which is a lie she has some thing worst that is why the pediatrician told her to go childrens healthcare of atlanta as an emergency instead of waiting until june for her opthamalogy appointment. my daughter and i where born here in the usa and we speak perfect english, but who took her today was her grandma who doesn't speak english they should've bought her a translator. the doctors are stealing my time and money because they missed diagnose my daughter as a simple stye and did not listen to my daughter. my daughter has rights as a human being and i think the doctor and nurse practitioner are racist they took shortcuts and showed negligence and malpractice by not listening to my daughter when she told them she did not have a sty she already tried the remedies that her pediatrician had send her here as an emergency. i feel like doctors look down at hispanic, and black minority women and don't take them seriously and don't listen to them and those two minories get misdiagnosed all the time because of negligence, racism, stereotype and the doctor undermines them and takes advantage of them by taking shortcuts and sending them home and not healing them it's like stealing money and playing with people's life. read more

For the past 16 days and counting my 14yr old and I have had the pleasure of being spoiled by the staff here at Scottish Rite; however, I wish it were under better circumstances but because my son is battling an infection from his appendectomy surgery we have had to be here. Don't fret because he's getting better (yay) again that's thanks to all of the help, support and expertise of the surgeons, doctors, nurses, techs and even the janitors are awesome! Being that this is our first time here (I pray we never have to come back unless it's just to visit the wonderful staff) it met more than our expectations. This place is so modern and pulls out a lot of stops! They have an activity room on my son's floor and if he doesn't want to go there, he can go down on the Ground floor to what is called, "The Zone" where they have arts and crafts, gaming rooms from X-Box to PlayStation to Wii. They even have foosball, a vintage arcade game , air hockey to name a few. Free gifts and I'm talking good ones on your way out. His private room offers room service with the option of breakfast lunch and dinner , there is a full access library for everyone and business center that stays open until 10pm for parents. There are activities, shows etc .. put on for the children in the lobby every week, a Starbucks a giant Connect Four game and a Piano for the children to play in the lobby. I mean I can go on and on but I think you guys get my drift. Since I had to find a hospital for my Stinkers to come too at the last minute for his medical condition, I'm grateful that it was here especially being that we are still fairly new to Atlanta. My newborn daughter was sent to the NICU at Scottish Rite August 2019 and stayed for about a week and a half. While there, she saw specialists, became stable, and then my husband and I got the training we needed to care for her before she was discharged. Our entire experience with Scottish Rite (and our continued appointments) were all wonderful. Our daughter, MJ, spent lots of time not just with the NICU staff, but she saw specialists from multiple other team: ENT, craniofacial, audiology, speech therapy, genetics, nutrition, and GI. Add on a lactation consultant and social worker, and I think that includes everyone we got to meet. Each team made sure to meet us as the parents as best they could, and we had many conversations about big medical issues, but everyone did a wonderful job of making sure we understood everything and got our questions answered. In fact, absolutely everyone made sure we didn't have any more questions for the time being before moving on to their next appointments. I've been so impressed by the staff at Scottish Rite. At one time, I was discussing MJ's formula needs with the nutritionist when she began to have a problem. I tended to her, but I was pretty shaken up and began to cry, right there in front of the nutritionist, who helped with MJ and helped with me. I found myself spilling to her how sad and nervous I was about caring for my frail daughter, and the nutritionist encouraged and comforted me and stayed with me as long as I needed. She gave me a hug when I asked for one, and I really appreciated her going above and beyond to help stabilize me. The facilities here are wonderful. As if the main office building weren't already warm, welcoming, clean, and beautiful, the NICU adds on a bit more. I think this is incredibly thoughtful because having a baby hospitalized is very taxing and the nice things and accommodations made for us while MJ was there made everything more bearable. The rooms themselves have a lot of space set up for the families. We had just come from the Emory Midtown NICU, and in comparison, the Scottish Rite NICU space felt like a luxury. There is dedicated space by every bedside with at least one recliner, pillows to put under your arms, and curtains to pull around the area for privacy. There are breast pumps that you can use at the bedside, though there's also a lactation room with pumps and cleaning supplies. Every breastfeeding mom is put on the lactation diet, which means, in exchange for the milk you give your baby, the hospital gives you food, too. You get compensation toward 3 meals a day, and the room service charge to bring the food up to the NICU waiting room is waived for you. Your partner also gets an amount toward their meals. This was a huge money saver for us during our time. I was also given all the pump parts I needed. The lactation consultant even got me smaller sized flanges, which I was able to take home with me. The whiteboard at the bedside was a handy way to communicate with staff if we missed them. MJ was given a small notebook that I used to write letters to her (a kind NICU nurse beat me to writing the first letter). There are books available in English and Spanish, and the NICU has a program encouraging you to read to your baby. There is a visitor bathroom outside the NICU, and the waiting room has a fridge, freezer, plasticware, TV, and vending machines. You're also able to make use of the rest of the hospital's facilities like the chapel, koi pond (when it's reopened), and garden. Thanks to a generous sponsor, all NICU parents get their first 5 parking tickets covered, and then you're able to buy a 5-ticket pass for a discounted rate. So far, I've only been once when the main office building parking was full, and the second deck available still allowed me to park near the building. To be discharged from the NICU, the baby needs to pass a car seat test and parents (at least 2 caregivers) need to attend 4 classes: Car seat class, CPR, Transition Home class, & watching a video on purple crying. We were able to knock all of these out in one day. The CPR class was the most beneficial to us, though it was also helpful to know about the purple crying. The Transition class was mostly about baby basics, and as we had taken a Baby Basics class at Piedmont, this class felt like a waste of our time. The NICU is very family-friendly. We often brought MJ's twin with us to visit. At the bedside, there's room enough for us two parents, the bed, our other daughter, and the nurses. Only 2 visitors are allowed at the bedside at a time, but our other daughter was allowed to visit with us every time and stayed in her car seat. The cafeteria had good options every time we visited, by the way. There were always hotdogs and burgers and fries, pre-made salads, and many sweet and snacky options available. During prime mealtimes, there were hot cook-to-order options, soups, fried chicken and sides. Our baby received excellent care and so did we. read more

Woow this hospital was so nice. They have friendly staff who work there and tell you about special events that are going down in the main lobby. They really invested in many things for the children who are sick. I especially enjoy this place when my niece was in the NICU. Most of the time I was in the garden outside enjoying the nice warm weather. There cafeteria food can do some work but then again what cafeteria food would you say was amazing. Lol They have a little library for kids who want to read a book. They have a game room, art studio, and area for putt putt golf and many more things. This place definitely exceeded my expectations. read more

My 3 year old son was spending the night at his grandmas house. He touched her hot stove and burned his hand pretty badly. We took him to the ER and we were met with nurse Ella. She wasn't very friendly off the bat. My son fell asleep within the HOUR it took for them to get him Motrin. She wakes him up and dispensed an entire 7.5ML syringe of Motrin in his mouth. Unsurprisingly he spits it down the front of him. This is not how you feed a child medicine. You do 1/4 or 1/2 of it, so they can actually swallow it. She reprimands him 'why did you spit it out?' Um well, because 1) I'm 3 years old 2) I just woke up 3) you shoved 7.5 ML down my throat all at once. I don't even think an adult could've swallowed it whole. Now, not only is he uncomfortable from the burn, but he is uncomfortable from his shirt being sticky and wet. I asked for more Motrin since he swallowed none of it. She said 'can you wait until you get home?' And I said no. He's in pain and needs to go to sleep. She comes back in and says 'we'll have to do this the hard way.' And held him down and got him to take the medicine. And as she's wrapping his hand, she keeps grabbing the burn forgetting that's where he's hurt. I cringed every-time. My son was so brave. I was very unhappy with my experience here. She shouldn't be working with children. read more

Messages by office staff and surgery scheduler in ENT department are not returned, when they do talk to you they are very rude. They scheduled a procedure (BMT and hearing test under sedation) in Duluth and said it was the only place the procedure was done. That was a lie, I found out from a friend who works at CHOA Meridien Mark Surgery Center that the procedure was done there all the time. Dr Berg and Dr Aaron are now at Wellstar, I can take my child there and Wellstar now has a Pediatric ICU. With service like you are giving CHOA, residents in the metro area now have a choice, you are not the only game in town. Dr Bansal is at Wellstar now, along with many orthopods from CHOA. read more

In er our machine kept running out of battery and no one was around to ask to stop the beeping. Got to room at 5 am. Was told surgery was at 1230 now i asked and she said next few hours hopefully. Absolute WORST My child was having trouble breathing. We walk into the emergency room the lady in the front taking vitals is asleep Of course they make you fill out the insurance forms 1st. We sit down and then they call his name to take his vitals. Then get called again to have his vitals taken by another nurse who is new. She couldn't take his vitals because she is new. I told her we just did this and she said well the other nurse didn't record his vitals. = More time wasted. Blind leading the blind in this place. Multi-billion dollar hospital who can't provide healthcare for a child. Mind blowing. Most Dr's and nurses here treat you like a product on the conveyor belt. They don't care about human beings. Awhile back, I had to come to the ER here with my friend from up by Kennesaw, because we were out seeing the sights (she was showing me around), and her little one got really ill and with blue lips. She freaked out, so I took charge, looked this place up, and drove us here in a hurry. They were extremely nice, it took less than an hour to get sorted out (which was amazing), and even though she had a little issue with insurance later, on the whole this was one of my better hospital experiences. My husband and I took my 4-year old son for a basic standard first-time visit with a Pediatric Pulmonologist Doctor at Children's Physician Group - Pulmonology at the 3300 Old Milton Parkway office. My son has no acute or chronic pulmonary diseases and has no asthma. The reason for this visit was about the "possibility" preventive care testing. Our apt. was scheduled for 1:15 pm and we arrived earlier for paperwork. At the check-in window we saw a sign that states that if one arrives more than 15 minutes later the office will have to reschedule your appointment for another date. Despite the fact that they seem to take their time seriously, we did not experience the same courtesy as we were not called to come back to the exam room until 1:40 pm. We waited in the room for another 28 minutes. It was now 2:08 pm, almost an hour past our appointment time and - needless to say - we were getting very anxious to be done with this first-time visit. It was unacceptable the Doctor's tardiness. Time is money for physicians and patients alike. The Doctor finally came into the room. She spent 30-40 minutes maximum in a face to face encounter with us, just talking and listening. The Doctor did not perform a comprehensive examination of my child as she made it clear it was not necessary based on what she heard of my son's health. She did not perform any tests on my child. She did not look at any paperwork or material I had with me. Although my son has no prior history and no symptoms of Asthma, the doctor did suggest Asthma as a probable consideration for us to ponder. She ordered an Asthma prescription so that our visit would not be a waste of time - although I did not fully agree with the idea it seemed at the time as if she was trying to help. One may see it all over the wall and Physician's face that the Doctors who work at this office for the network of Children's Healthcare of ATL have a strong tendency to lead children-patients to the Asthma-trigger route. Asthma is the mascot and theme that generates substantial revenue for this type of specialists. The visit concluded. The CHOA office submitted a bill of $668 to my insurance for this visit. Later adjusted it by my insurance to $541.02. I called the Milton Office to request a bill itemization to support the charges. The Milton office sent out a letter with a CPT (Medical Code) without any itemization. I tried to speak to the Office Administrator and Manager named Leslie. However, different office members got in the way trying to avoid the escalation of this matter. I spoke to various office employees about bringing to the CHOA billing and auditing department's attention the matter of unnecessary services, time-spent and over-diagnosing. I twice spoke to a Milton Office Lead named Carlina about aiding in making a final bill adjustment. She refused to work with me. I called my insurance two times. They too deemed the charge to be hefty and misleading as to receiving unnecessary medical care for a first-time visit. I was told by a representative that the average cost for a standard visit to a pediatrician tends to be about $140 to $220. The average cost for a standard visit to a pediatric specialist tends to be $260 to $410. It's clear that CHOA (Children's Health Care of ATL) fee scheduled is VERY high. I cannot personally blame this particular Doctor for the charges. I do not believe she privately owns the Milton Practice herself. I do not believe the Pediatric Pulmonologist Doctor sets the physician fees schedule. It's my belief she may be very well pressured to offer and perform on patients as many services and products as possible to drive revenue growth for the CHOA Network. Be proactive by familiarizing yourself with some of these medical billing fraud schemes to protect yourself and your child from becoming a potential victim. read more

We had to take our son here for a blood draw for a potential peanut allergy. Parking was seamless and the staff made our 10 month old's experience of getting his blood drawn as pleasant as possible.
