Fancy place. Smart people. Good people.

Just to be clear, I am reviewing this for the transplant program ONLY. I did not need, nor receive, medical care or any emergency services. We can debate faith vs. science all day long, but the fact remains that modern medicine saves lives. This hospital, in conjunction with Emory University's medical program, is saving lives. Whether it is the exhaustive process of determining matches for donors of organs, or the lifelong process of monitoring the success of a recipient's acceptance of organs, this hospital is unmatched. Forget the fact that this is also a teaching hospital. The best transplant surgeons, organ specialists, and in general, highly-trained doctors are serving here at Emory Hospital. My lovely wife was a brave soul who had volunteered to donate a kidney to a someone in need. I could describe the entire story and process here, but HIPAA likely prohibits that because lawyers. But I will share that the level of care, precision, and medical expertise demonstrated by the surgeons and doctors at Emory Hospital was simply incomprehensible to watch and believe. The net-net is that organ transplants ain't back-alley medicine. There are factors at work that you & I know likely nothing about, even if we're medically trained. Mama Nature & doctors are getting to know one another one corpuscle at a time. Additionally, if you're Yelp-ing which transplant hospital to choose, then you're likely doing it wrong. Emory Hospital is THE place, regardless of the number of stars one can award, for organ transplants and every single thing they are doing backs that up. PSA: You can volunteer to be an organ donor when you receive your driver's license. It's a simple thing and is available to do in all 50 states. It is absolutely your choice, but just know that your choice could save someone's life. I can't think of any greater honor.

They treated me professionally and compassionately. My concern is with an organization that appears to prioritize revenue over patients. I came to the emergency room because I believed I was experiencing a medical emergency--not because I had a choice. I left not only grateful for the medical care, but shocked by the charges that followed. As an insured, working American who pays taxes and health insurance premiums, I found it difficult to understand how basic items and routine services could be billed at prices that seem disconnected from reality. Patients don't comparison-shop during emergencies, and they shouldn't be financially punished for seeking care. The standard response is always, "That's just how healthcare works." But those prices are set by people. Leadership chooses the policies that determine what patients are charged. The medical staff earned my appreciation. The billing practices earned this review. I hope the leadership of this organization takes a hard look at whether its financial priorities truly reflect its mission to care for the community.

The surgery was performed at Northside Hospital on Johnson Ferry Rd. I was admitted to Northside Hospital's 2nd Floor Neuro for recovery. I couldn't have had a better experience! Every single nurse and staff treated me with the upmost care, professionalism and personable attitudes. I chose to stay longer, because I knew I was being taken care of above and beyond! On May 19th 2026, I decided to have my lower lumber surgery done by Dr. Paul Jeffords and once again performed at Northside Hospital. Once again, I was taken care of beyond all measure and stayed additional days/nights, because I knew I was in the BEST care EVER!!! On July 28th, 2026, I had an additional spinal surgery performed by Dr. Jeffords and his team. This surgery was performed at Northside Hospital and once again, I was treated with the utmost care one could want. I, again, chose to stay an additional day, because of the superior care I received from all of the nurses and staff on the 2nd Floor. I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Paul Jeffords and his talented group, Scott Siegel, Shelby and Elissa! The lobby was literally empty on a Saturday. My loved one was evaluated immediately and there was a clean room available and staff who checked in frequently. We saw a friendly doctor who actually read the chart. It wasn't cold and we had cable tv to watch. Because it could have been minor or serious, my loved one was fed and given a room in the "Clinical Decision Unit" to sleep in overnight to wait for an MRI. Our room was comfortable and I was able to sleep in a recliner. The staff brought blankets and a pillow. This may sound normal but it's a world away from Emory University Clifton hospital where we paid to park and waited in a freezing lobby crammed with sick people for 15 hours before seeing a doctor. We literally heard people screaming because they were in pain. There were no doctors, a nurse said someone died due to lack of staff, one of the security guards was stabbed in the hand, it was like a horror movie! Even if you called 911 and arrived on a stretcher (which is recommended to fast track service), you'll be lined up stretcher to stretcher to freeze and wait like the rest of us. It took several days and constant checking for an MRI, whether you were admitted to the hospital or not. And I'd still choose Emory Clifton over Decatur or Hillandale.. But now we have a better option. The only area for improvement at St. Joe's would be a cafeteria open on weekends but food delivery is available. We don't always need an ER but when we do, we will go to St. Joseph's. It's worth the drive!

There was no monitoring throughout the night - only taken during triage, once before discharge... SERIOUSLY??!! I actually had to advocate on her behalf to keep them from unnecessary blood draws. We will most certainly be examining the bill, once it arrives!! At the slightest hint that they realized I was not going to let them run unnecessarily tests on her, they backed off and quickly discharged her. This is definitely not a hospital I would recommend for anyone with any high blood pressure or cardiac conditions! Am I doctor, no. Have I cared for ailing parents and experienced this type of bill padding - YES!

Every member of the staff I encountered treated me with kindness, professionalism, and genuine concern. My room was spacious, comfortable, and exceptionally clean. The Environmental Services staff did an outstanding job keeping everything spotless. On the first morning of my stay, my wife immediately commented on how clean the room looked--something she had never said during any previous hospital stay. The staff thoroughly cleaned and dusted the room, mopped the floor, and even changed the trash bag even though it was barely full. Their attention to detail did not go unnoticed. I also noticed a small device under the sink that I later learned was a Synexis air purification system. It operates so quietly that I never heard it, but I was impressed to learn that it continuously helps improve air and surface quality by generating a safe form of hydrogen peroxide. It was reassuring to see Northside Hospital Cherokee investing in technology that helps protect patients from the spread of germs. The food service exceeded my expectations. There was a wide variety of menu choices, the meals arrived on schedule, the portions were generous, the food was served at the proper temperature, and every meal was exactly what I ordered. Hospital food often gets a bad reputation, but that certainly wasn't my experience here. My discharge process was one of the smoothest I've ever experienced. Nurse Brenda made sure my wife and I had everything packed so nothing was left behind. She asked my wife to bring the car around to the entrance, and within just a couple of minutes I was on my way home. The entire process was efficient, organized, and stress-free. The highlight of my stay, however, was the nursing staff. Their compassion, professionalism, and positive attitudes made all the difference. Brenda and Elizabeth cared for me during the day, while Nancy and another night-shift nurse--whose name I unfortunately cannot remember--provided excellent care overnight. Every one of them treated me with respect and kindness, and they always seemed to have a smile on their face. They should be highly commended for their dedication to their patients. If I ever need hospital care again and have a choice, Northside Hospital Cherokee will be my first choice without hesitation. Thank you to everyone who made my stay such a positive experience. Your hard work and commitment to patient care are truly appreciated. Irvin F
