My child is medically complex and sees 15+ doctors at CHOA, and we spend on average 3 days a week at CHOA, have had many surgeries and been admitted many times. We LOVE CHOA! My son gets great care from the best doctors. My son has a condition that many doctors refuse to treat because they incorrectly assume there is no point. BUT NOT CHOA!! The doctors here treat my son as they would treat any other child. Not only do they treat him, they give him the very best. Without their willingness to give treatment to my son, he would not be here. There's always bound to be a nurse on shift every now and then that I don't particularly love, but for the most part we have loved all nurses as well. We have always received very thorough care from top notch doctors. It's extremely easy to get questions asked or be transferred by phone to the department you need simply by calling the main number, and MyChart online is very easy to navigate and get to all medical information and records. Wow ! What an great experience ! Our 11 year old daughter was diagnosed on Monday with a basketball sized tumor on her ovary. We were admitted on Wednesday tumor removed on Thursday and a few days to stay for recovery. Since the first dsy we walked into this place we have been treated excellent by every nurse , tech , housekeeper, etc. our surgeon Dr. Glasson the best. She can abuse your children..make sure she's supervised (have another nurse in the room) 7/12 I checked my daughter in due to complications with constipation & dr Patel was very rude & invalidated my concerns & tried to send me home without checking any other options we had ..she offered a rectal exam when doing do she aggressively grabbed my child's leg & arm & DUG her nails into her skin! .. So disgusting & the hospital won't take responsibility for her actions..like the medical director told me " there will be no other out come from this situation " they don't care about your child's well being but they will damn well send you that hospital bill..ridiculous & won't ever come here again.. never had an issue in regards to any hospital visit until this one. My daughter had a burn and we rushed her to the emergency room. They didn't maybe 30 minutes with her and of course we had to go to a burn center. With insurance it was a $1200 visit!!! This is outrageous. I don't know why they charge so much but it's absolutely not necessary. The actual burn center was less for all their office visits!!! Time to stop making healthcare astronomical. I have truly never seen a more magical, welcoming, and warm children's hospital. Often times, hospitals have a very sterile feel that makes children nervous but from the moment you walk in to Scottish Rite, you feel as though you are somewhere fun. As your children wait for you to register at the entrance, they can play with a train station and ball-drop machine. As you walk through the main lobby, you may be greeted by volunteers playing violin, dressed as clowns, or even a sweet Disney Character waiting to give your child a hug or high-five. The staff are exceptionally kind and patient, well-aware of anxieties that children may have. While I always hope that I don't need to take my children to a hospital, I am comforted knowing that Scottish Rite is available to us. read more

We love this hospital. This is our go to hospital when we have the need for one. As a parent of two special needs kids with multiple medical disabilities, we've had many stays here over the years. We've had multi-day stays in the NICU, TICU, PICU, and multiple rooms on the 3rd floor. We've had MRIs, CT scans, ultrasounds, and surgeries here (to name a few). We've even had multiple ER visits. The one commonality in all of our association with Scottish Rite has been that the staff has been very friendly, welcoming, and understanding to my kids needs which is a big plus when we are there for what we feel like is a crisis. The staff is and has been very calming to both of my kids during their time of need. I would highly suggest using this hospital. We will not use any other. read more

You know... I get we are all living in stressful times right now... but that doesn't mean the Doctors have to do things half assed and a non-busy ER has to take hours to complete a terrible job. THE ONLY reason I went into the ER this night was because my sons Tetanus shot was not up to date and that had me slightly on edge. Also I didn't want my son left with a huge laceration scar on his neck, one that clearly needed to be shut some how. May it be steri-strips, stitches or glue. CLEARLY the Doctor who glued him either had no clue what he was doing... and or didn't really care (I will be kind and leave his name out of the review, although I remember it well). Glue should not have been used. Less than 24 hours since they glued it (and my active son has been such compliant not doing anything active and basically sitting around like a stump on a tablet in order to prevent bending his neck any), the laceration is gapped open and now looking infected. While in the hospital they did not apply any antibacterial anything, beyond SALINE (what the heck?) and left his open neck wounds exposed with just a blob of glue on them. The visit took us from 10pm-1am almost and it was for nothing. Doctor offered my son a pop because of the long wait, did he get that? nope.. very poor communication and care. I WILL NEVER GO BACK. I already disliked going to doctors offices, this has solidified that for me. We without a doubt will be charged out the ying yang for this service. Thank you for absolutely NOTHING read more

We brought our daughter into the ER and they did a wonderful job evaluating her. We were in and out with the answers we needed in a timely manner. The doctor and staff were both patient and knowledgeable with everything we asked. Every staff member we encountered was friendly. We went to another hospital before Children's and I am so happy we stopped by. The doctor herself spent over 20 minutes in our room speaking to us about our daughter and what was going on. However, the other health care providers are horrible. I'm now labeled as being intimidating because I was advocating for my son. I would never recommend this location to a person of color. Came at 6am on a Thursday. Only family in the waiting room. Was in a room within 15 minutes - My 1 year old had a fever of 104 (reason we visited) but even during triage his temp was not taken, oxygen not checked, nothing was recorded other than his weight. We waited an hour in our room for ANYONE to come by and see us. Doctor came by and I expressed my concerns about my child's health. She seemed dismissive but told me she would test for covid and flu because I told her we had visited CHOA two weeks ago and been sent home as the DR said what my son had was viral - no tests, no anything. and it turned out to be RSV. SO, I told this DR I wanted him tested. We were there 2 more hrs and a nurse finally came in and took his temp (first time since we had been there and the whole reason for the visit was FEVER!!!) They said they would give him motrin and he would be fine to leave. No tests, no monitoring of any kind.. just give motrin. CHOA is supposed to be the best place to go if your kid is emergently sick or nowhere else is open - this is FALSE. I walked out of the room after I waited for a very long time for motrin. 6 or 7 nurses and doctors were all chatting and looking at things on their phone at the nurses station, completely disregarding pateints that had been waiting for hours. I told them I could just give him motrin at home and I would like to leave. The nurse told me i had to wait for discharge papers, so I went back to the room to wait. When she came back in, she had motrin in hand (AFTER 3HRS TOTAL OF WAITING) and forced my 1year olds mouth open to administer it. Then I left. This hospital is a joke and I will not be returning unless it is the only option. Wait times wouldn't be so long if the hospital staff had any sort of phone policy. Staff had careless attitudes towards patients and parents...It is my personal opinion that you should not become a healthcare worker if you don't actually care for the health of people around you. read more

I am very grateful to the staff at this hospital for saving my youngest son. He was only 5 weeks old when we find out he had Pyloric Stenosis. First of all my son's treatment was fine. The problem I had with CHA was with the payment plan. First they charge me an amount of money which was place in a payment plan. Then they changed the amount to a larger amount. Somehow they split it in two different accounts. They then send the 2nd account to collections. Be very careful with there billing department. I have no complaints about my son's treatment, is what happened with the billing that I have a problem with. By the way, when I called they offer no solution. read more

Atrocious. I had the misfortune of spending 8 days there with my 3 week old sick baby. The nurse refused to stay with my baby for five minutes while I ran downstairs to pick up clean clothes from my husband (mine were covered in vomit and diarrhea). Husband was not allowed upstairs to drop off the clothes because we were put on the COVID-19 floor despite the fact the baby didn't have COVID-19 (so glad she didn't catch it with that three week old already weak immune system). Nurse suggested I crack the door open and leave my baby unattended. No way would I leave my sick vomiting infant alone in a hospital where 1. she could choke and 2. she could be kidnapped. Besides poor nursing, the website has the wrong office hours for the ENTs and the Sleep Study Group does not answer the phone. Sleep Study has an invalid email address on the website so it is actually impossible to reach them - they have to call you when they feel like getting around to it. The Genetics Department is backed up for thirteen months "because of COVID-19" even for a nine month old infant with an urgent medical issue. If your doctor is "stumped" and does not know what is causing the medical issue prepare to be dropped. read more

I have visited this hospital for my son. They kept us waiting in room more than an hour. Doctor checked and said she will prescribe antibiotic. We waited another another so some will get us prescription to the room. After long wait we went to front desk and asked them for reason for late. They said Doctor forgot to prescribe. Then after an half an hour we got prescription. After a month we got bill of $432. I called them back to check why this much huge bill for a doctor check. So, never have I imagines that I would need to spend the night in a children's hospital, but that all changed when my son required surgery. From the moment you step foot inside, you are in a place for kids. From the bright colors and fish tanks, to the games on the wall and game tables throughout. The staff is bubbly and really make the kids feel comfortable. Even though we were in the Same Day Surgery Center, we were still given a private room which is really nice. Everyone who came in the room for pre-op spoke to my son first and then us. They brought him stickers and bubbles and made it fun for him. The nurse called me from the OR to tell me what was taking place and kept me up to date on what his status was. Once he was moved into a room for the day, the staff made sure to introduce themself immediately and really provide us with anything that we may need. (mostly popsicles for my son). They have room service for food for both the patient and parents. It is free for the kids and only $6 / tray for the parents. The nurses pick up the phone as soon as you call them for anything and respond ASAP. There is a room full of games and toys for the kids to play with also which my son enjoyed. One perk that we did not get to use was the giant playground outside that you can see from a lot of the large windows in the room. The sleeping arrangement for a parent to stay are very accommodating. The couch opens to a twin size bed and the hospital provides sheets, pillows, blankets. There is a private bath/shower in the room. When being discharged, instead of rolling my son out in a wheelchair to the valet, they pulled him in a red wagon which he loved. You hear that CHOA is one of the best, and they really are! read more

I took my 2 yr old little girl to CHOA ER this past Tuesday for breathing issues. We wet met by two angels, Craig and Dr. Mallory. I can't thank them and the whole team at CHOA enough for the treatment, professionalism, caring factor and just all around good experience. We were not expecting to go to the ER but so glad we did bc they made our daughter well! We are beyond grateful for the entire team! Thank you to the ER staff and upstairs nurses and doctors staff. Having a Children's Hospital so close to home was a blessing to us over the weekend. Our little dude awoke with croup, yet again, and had labored breathing. Without a 24-hour pediatrician close enough to visit, Scottish Rite was the next option on our list. We arrived around 10pm and the waiting room was pretty busy. The staff was so generous with time and information and took great care to get our son seen by the doctor in a hurry. They worked quickly, patiently, and kindly to give him a breathing treatment and steroids to combat the symptoms. Though our little dude is terrified of hospitals and doctors offices, they did everything in their power to make sure he was comfortable and smiling whenever they could. They brought him juice and popsicles and put on movies for him. Their care was so thorough and helpful to all of us. So thankful to have another great hospital in the area to rely on for our kids. read more

wow what a crazy week its been, has anyone written reviews of two hospitals in the same week, not that i know of. The wife and I had a new baby born about two weeks ago. He's been awesome but the other day we had a bit of an emergency that i won't go into and the pediatrician advised us to go to Scottish Rite since apparently they don't like working on weekends and they figured those guys would be there. So...... we did. It takes a lot to really impress me at a hospital, especially with a two week old, and i must say that i was way beyond imppressed. I actually drew a sixth star on my screen, sadly it won't show up for you but i get to see it all the time. Right away i was awed. Complemenary Valet parking when bringing in a patient. Its like i was at a swanky club and not expected to tip, big awesome points. We got inside and signed in and were given a number and put into a private room to wait since little man is well........ little. When they called our number an awesome nurse whose name i can't recall at the moment came and even helped us lug our baby gear back to the room where we would see the doctor. Dr. Bennett (Bill i think was his first name) came in quickly and took stock of our non-life threatening but rather uncomfortable situation. He left for a minute and returned with the requisite tools and in about 15 minutes we were done. There was no filling out forms and sitting around waiting. they didn't even ask about insurance until our issue was resolved, then an equally awesome lady came in and took our info while the nurse finished up with the tiny patient. All in all, i think we were there for maybe 45 minutes then headed home for naps. efficient, thats how i like my hosptals. I really think that if Dr. Bennett had his own office somewhere we'd probably take our boys to him all the time, he was that great. I really can't say enough about Scottish Rite. If you have kids, i sure hope you never have to go there, but if you do, they'll take care of you. read more

First of all my baby doesn't cry. I take that back, she cries for only for 4 things: food, wet, over tired, and in pain. Last night it was the last of the four. This was my second trip to Scottish Rite, and it really isn't that bad of a place. The hardest part is watching other babies that are sick or hurt. My wife has cried both times we were here. They have free valet parking all night (Which makes it easy) and the process is pretty straight forward. Check in, wait, triage, wait, go to exam room, wait, get treated, go home. Last night the process only took about 3 hours (Which I was relieved because an announcement came on saying the time to get admitted was an hour and a half, and wait time for a doctor was an additional 45 min. ) The "hour and a half" wait time was a half hour and the 45 turned into 10. Quick and easy. Also, they told me to go to Publix to pick up the medication, because it would be free. I thought that was a nice touch. The baby only had a ear infection and they figured it out right away, and were very nice about the whole process. read more

The Scottish Rite cafeteria is pretty solid, food-wise. You have your standard grill station, meat-and-three station, grab-and-go cooler, soda fountain, etc. There's even a slushie machine! Despite the enormous customer throughput, the station attendants and cashiers manage to keep everything quick and correct. The good: Food is readily available, reasonably priced, and nursing students get a discount. The bad: 1) While most of this hospital is gorgeous, the cafeteria and dining room look kind of blah. 2) The dining room is carpeted. This is a bad idea for a dining area. This is an even worse idea for a dining area in a hospital. This is a *terrible* idea for a dining area in a pediatric hospital. 3) If you're getting lettuce and tomato to put on a sandwich you're making out of other things, you have to pay salad bar prices for it. read more

We had to take my 4 day old son here because of the fact he wasn't eating (premature) so we brought him here and all the nurses in the NICU did a wonderful job at treating my son with love and care! We had excellent help, me and my wife was heart broken to see our son get tubes of blood drawn, being hooked up to a machine, and not alone a tube going through his nose, no parent wants to see there child go through something like that, but with the help of all the nurses that took care of my son we will be able to bring him home, If anyone needs a children hospital this is the absolute best hospital I recommend!!! Dr. Bui was very warm with my 2yr son and my husband and I, she also took the time to speak with us about numbers, possible conditions our son might have and review our sons xrays. Very trustworthy. Dr Barnes was the second dr we saw and she was informative as well as direct. Only 1 of the 5-6 nurses we had was gentle and thorough, she completed our sons EKG in a sweet and timely manner. The other nurses were cold, especially to our son who was beyond exhausted and irritable, one of them pulled blood too quickly causing more blood to be pulled again, another basically ripped my sons super adhesive pee bad off his genitals roughly and even had a very poor care when he bleed out of his IV prick covered band aid. She just let my husband and I worry and fuss over our son instead of trying to help our son herself. There's was enough going on we didn't need our poor baby being ignored or overlooked on his condition. Overall, decent experience, nurses seem very young and needing more general focus and some warm bedside manner especially working with children. read more

I do not recommend using this facility, they OVERCHARGE beyond belief. We took our grandson (who was visiting from FL) in for cold/flu symptoms. The Dr spent 5 minutes with our grandson, told us to continue with the OTC medicine we were already using and performed a strep test. We were paying cash, therefore we had to pay a $75.00 deposit and informed we would be sent a bill for any difference. I cannot tell you how shocked we were to receive a bill for over $600.00. This was absolutely over the top for the services provided. If the facility/Dr charges this type of fee, someone should instruct the patient/family what kind of bill to expect. We were NEVER informed we would have a bill so outrageous. This type of billing practice should be against the law. I strongly recommend going anywhere but here. read more

I brought my newborn here recently to get a procedure done. Walking thru the main entrance, I certainly did not feel like I was going into a hospital. It's more like the lobby of a hotel or fancy office building. There was artwork, fancy fixtures and even a train set with a miniature town! As far as wait times go, it wasn't too bad. I checked in, gave my insurance info, and got the procedure done. In and out in about 90 mins. Admin staff was courteous and competent. My 8 year old son, Andrew, was admitted this last Monday because he had a fever of 104.5. From beginning to end, the techs, nurses, and doctors and ENTIRE staff were informative, comforting and professional. My wife and I were a nervous wreck because we wanted answers. They ran every test possible to see what was wrong with our son. The doctor that took care of Andrew was Doctor Zenia Fleming... She was amazing and an incredible doctor. In the end she informed us that it was a bad virus that our son had. He was discharged today but as bad as the situation was, it was an amazing hospital experience... When you have a child that has a medical concern or requires testing and diagnosis, CHOA is always the right choice! They invest time and understanding to address parent/patient concerns. The facilities are always well maintained with ample sanitation/facemask stations throughout the building. They have a piano at most locations and this one is no different. My son was thrilled about that so much so that he forgot about the ultrasound procedure he was there for and scrolled his brain for songs he would play when given the opportunity. read more

No one wants to take their child to the emergency room, but when you have to you want to be treated with kindness and respect. The techs, nurse, and doctor were all very excellent with my 6 month old and listened to me when I answered their questions. We arrived at 830am and the place was a ghost town. I bought my child in to have a test done, with Covid going on i was already reluctant about bringing him in. He had a test done that required a catheter, within 48 hours of him having the test done he started running a fever of 102 that could not be brought down by medication, long story short he was diagnosed with a UTI caused by a hospital acquired infection. However the hospitals refuses to acknowledge that they did not follow sterile procedure, but the bacteria that grew from his UTI is hospital acquired, my baby was fine no UTI's what so ever until i bought him into this hospital, do not take your child to this hospital. read more
