Place smells funky upon entry. I almost turned around but I was on a lunch break. Service was good but I wasn't impressed with the food. I had a fajita steak taco salad and the steak was chewy and lacked flavor. The place looks aged and again, smells like it. Will not return. Think there are better choices for what I paid. The service is always friendly and fast, the chips are always fresh and crispy and the food is consistently delicious. Best Mexican in Polk County. We have been searching for good, authentic Mexican food since moving into the area. San Diego's is the best so far. Chips: excellent, thin and crisp. Salsa: mild but flavorful with a nip. Burrito: OMG stuffed with enough meat for two people and the dog! Not spicy, but moist and flavorful. Spicy salsa available upon request. If you can make their happy hour, the food is just as good and drinks are half price. Wednesday night is burrito night, so bogo on the featured entree. Service was excellent. I ordered to go. It was a cute place and the lady I placed my order with was very friendly so I was excited to try the food and hopefully find my new Mexican food spot. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. It's was not horrible, but definitely not worth returning for. It had a weird taste and didn't seem very good quality. I wouldn't say the place is expensive exactly, but the price definitely does not match the quality. Wow. I'm surprised at all the good reviews. So the chips were good. The salsa tasted it look like it came out of a jar. The Carne Asada is pretty much in edible absolutely no flavor, thinner than a pancake, tough as shoe leather. I even asked the server if that was a popular dish, forgetting something else and she assured me that it was wonderful. Clearly she has not eaten good food because it was anything but wonderful. The rice is cold with no flavor. The beans are OK- can you screw up refried beans? The guacamole is OK and the ceviche has very little flavor either; they put one lime in the ceviche, it could've used seven!!! There are far too many Mexican restaurants to waste time on a bad one, so I will not be returning at this point. I really wish chipotle was not out of lettuce and sour cream tonight because I would've had a way better meal for half the price. Nice staff read more

San Diego's Mexican Grill offers good Mexican food in a bright and pleasing interior. Though there is nothing too groundbreaking about their menu, it does include your perennial Mexican favorites and standards. It starts out with the salsa and chips and San Diego's Mexican Grill has a decent version. Our server was extremely friendly and professional, as well. I had the chimichanga and it was a good rendition of the Tex-Mex favorite. Hey, what's not too like with a fried burrito. All in all, I would definitely recommend here. read more

After driving past this restaurant for many years, we decided to try it. My basic tests of a good Mexican restaurant begin with the quality of the chips and salsa. The chips are on the thicker side but they are pretty good. The salsa isn't very chunky at all and has a really nice flavor with just the slightest spice to it making it safe for those that don't like spicy. We ordered ChoriQueso ($8.24) as an appetizer which is chorizo with cheese melted in a small frying pan served with hot tortillas (3). Our server mistakenly brought us a bowl of Queso Dip that we got to taste too. It's a very mild white queso. We ordered a 3 cheese enchilada dinner ($13.49) with rice and refried beans (the red sauce was mild and had a flavor that I hadn't tasted before. Not bad but not my favorite. We also ordered a Enchilada Verde dinner ($12.49)with 3 enchiladas ( we picked one beef, one chicken and one cheese) served with rice and refried beans. The verde (green) sauce was pretty tasty. Also the rice and beans were tasty and prepared well. The restaurant is not large and has a bar and outdoor patio seating. Our server was nice. read more

Alright. We've found a Mexican food restaurant that we really like!! It's over on the western edge of Winter Haven so it's just a skip from Lakeland. We stopped in on a Friday afternoon and, while I was concerned that we were the ONLY people in there, I didn't need to be. Apparently, we'd just missed the lunch rush. We were seated right away, orders taken and food delivered in a very short time. Everything was delicious!! Husband had the chimichanga, which he loved and also couldn't eat all of. Kid had the kids taco meal, which was devoured. I had the pollos tacos, which were just about perfect.... a little heavy on the onions but still really very good. I'm only sad that we haven't found this place earlier! read more

I was very happy with my recent visit here. After a full day of driving across Florida for work I had a major taco Tuesday craving that hit me hard. I'm talking full fledge, bring you to you knees begging for tacos type of cravings. Didn't want fast food and I wanted something fresh. Then; out of nowhere, a light beamed down upon San Diego's Mexican Grill as if it was a message from the heavens! I ventured inside, sat at the bar and ordered a beer. They immediately served me some delicious tortillas and salsa as I read the menu. I opted to order ala carte for some hard shell tacos, refried beans and rice. We arrived as a party of 11, 6 adults and 5 children at 6pm on a Saturday night. We were greeted immediately by Manuel who promptly seated us and took our drink order. Manuel ended up also being our server and he went above and beyond, making sure to keep our drinks filled and fulfilled all "special requests". Our food all arrived at the same time hot and fresh. It was very good. We were seated right away one our drink orders were taken. Chips and salsa were brought right out and extra was promptly brought when asked for. I ate the duo plate. I had a taco and a chicken enchilada and they were both very good. One of my friends had the taco salad and enjoyed it. Very disappointing. I went to this restaurant a week ago while visiting family. It was my first time and was not impressed. Instantly, upon walking in I picked up a strange smell like old & humid which just threw me off. Went there for lunch yesterday. Service was fast and receiving our entrée was fast also. Keep in mind only 1 other person was in the grill. Food look good, both the entrees had shredded chicken which had little taste and seem like it was boiled chicken all dark meat. Price was good for the portions we received. This is our second visit to San Diego's which has a lovely Mexican decor. We shared th Camarones San Diego Dinner which consisits of 5 jumbo shrimp grilled with chopped steak, onions, and mushrooms in a special ranchero red. My husband also had the Ceviche which is two flat crispy corn tortilla shells topped with shrimp and fish salad. The food was delicious and the service was excellent! Don't look at the bad reviews they're wrong! Delicious food I got the San Diego fajitas. water(or so my friend says) is the best water ever. If you have ever been to azteca it is quite compatible. Stopped in for a late lunch on the way home. Very nice atmosphere, friendly wait staff and good food. We were seated immediately as they weren't busy even though it was only 1 pm and it's a Saturday. The waitress was attentive, friendly, but not overbearing. She took our orders after a few minutes and our food came out very quickly. Possibly the blandest food I've ever tasted. It took too long to place our orders, but once the orders were in the food came out pretty quickly. Nothing had much flavor. The first basket of chips is free, a second basket costs $5. Are you kidding? I could buy 2 bags of chips at the store for that much. And the chips aren't that plentiful and they aren't anything special. The restaurant has ample parking, outdoor dining, a large bar and the overall ambiance is nice. But the food just wasn't good.
