What I really want is to give this a 3.5 but a 3 is more accurate than a 4 for the taste but I'm inclined to give it a 4 for the service. First off, amazing service, the staff is attentive and considerate. Now for the bad. I would say this place is tailored towards more westernized taste as there's no chopsticks unless you as for it and all the menu has a spicy sign next to it, even the pineapple fried rice which everyone knows is not spicy. With that said, I got the pineapple fried rice with pork and a medium size tom yum. The tom yum was too sour for my taste and the pork was too lean and not juicy, and maybe even overcooked. I did like the rice and everything else that came with it. I overheard the customer next to me asking about the chili sauce they used and they were patient and kind enough to give them a packet of the sample. As I was leaving and about to forget my jacket, they pointed it out to me, saving me a headache.

Chili Basil hit the spot on a travel day! Enjoyed: unique menu items (beef satay and beef brisket Massaman curry were both outstanding), all the sauces, the presentation (everything was pretty!), and the roti. The servers were also attentive without hovering, and it wasn't noisy even when lots of people were there. It smelled good as soon as we walked in. Could improve: cooking at least some of the bean sprouts in the pad thai, removing shrimp tails before serving, searing the beef satay slightly more. It's also pricey for the serving sizes, but I get that it's an expensive area.

Everyone is warm and friendly, the place is very clean and comfortable. Happy hour available every day except Tuesdays. The food is tasty and appetizing. Happy hour wine was nice too!

Ventura has a hot new Thai spot - Chili Basil! -So glad we gave Chili Basil Thai Cuisine a try today! Everything was delicious and it was such a great experience. My favorite food is Thai, so I had high expectations and boy did they exceed! I loved their relaxing music, jazz type. The decor is so beautiful and unique. Staff was very attentive and great at recommending dishes. They even have a wonderful happy hour on weekends! I absolutely love fresh rolls & peanut sauce so of course we ordered them. We had the tofu fresh rolls and they truly were decadent. We also had the pad Thai with chicken - it was very rich in flavor. I can't wait to try more items and return. Love how the owner was also super kind and welcoming. Truly speaks volumes about the establishment. This is a great date night spot or family gathering spot for small or large groups. 10/10 stars! If you want some real authentic and fusion Thai - you will fall in love at Chili Basil!

Chili Basil is hands down the best Thai food in Ventura. You cannot tell me otherwise. This is a place I frequent for their lunch specials and whether it's take out or dine in, I still get great service and delicious food. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu here. From their yellow curry, to pad Thai, Drunken noodle, Pad Prik Thai Dam, and even the fried rice. Everything is flavorful and just so good. Don't skip out on this place.

Great food! We've gotten take out a lot but finally decided to eat in. They have a great deal that includes soup/salad appetizers and a main. Service was friendly and accommodating. They were vegetarian friendly as well and able to make substitutes for the special to accommodate vegetarians.

The happy hour is great! We ordered crab Rangoon, pork larb, tom kha w shrimp, and mango sticky rice. A few notable things. The happy hour portions were large not like most places that skimp. The presentation is beautiful. The taste is great too! I enjoyed all the dishes and the 4 dollar beer ! We will be back to try the curry and noodles.

We were very happy with this restaurant. The ambience was relaxed, comfortable and welcoming. They had nice music in the background too! We had an appetizer of fresh shrimp spring rolls that were very yummy. You get three but they are on the small side. They had the typical veggies but also had a thin slice of tofu on the inside instead of noodles. They included shrimp, romaine, basil, cucumber and maybe some other fillings. They served the spring rolls cut in half with a peanut sauce and sweet teriyaki-like sauce. The combination dish was really a complete meal, we ordered crispy chicken. It had the main dish, rice (steamed or fried), one small fried veggie egg roll, one small fried shrimp, 2 fried wontons, teriyaki style dipping sauce, soup (Tom Kha with chicken) or salad. We chose sweet and sour sauce on the Crispy Chicken and it included pineapple, red bell pepper, green bell pepper, onion, carrots, and a little zucchini. It was very flavorful, not too sweet and it was filling. The crispy chicken was very tasty and tender. There were a few crispy pieces with no chicken in it but not enough to complain about. You also get a free Thai milk tea if you order a certain amount of food. I ordered Pad See Ew and it was full flavored, tender noodles and a lot of steamed tofu (I requested steamed but you can get fried if you like). It came with pieces Chinese broccoli ( not enough for me but enough to get true flavor from it). The dish was a good amount and the traditional sauce was just right (not too dark and not too light). They serve beer and wine only and they had Stella no-alcohol beer. The greeting at the door showed they appreciated our business! The service was excellent, respectful, not too much, not too little, asked the right questions, served what we ordered and had a smile at all times. We liked it a lot and will be back for sure.

The service was impeccable! Our waitress was so consistent & efficient! We were seated right away & food was delicious!

Our family came here for the first time on a Saturday for lunch. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating (plenty to go around!). The restaurant had music playing, but it wasn't too loud and it was pretty quiet overall (granted it had just opened for the day). Food 4/5: We all ended up getting the following lunch special, the cost depends on what you end up getting. Each dish comes with your choice of Chicken Tom Yum Soup (absolutely delicious, the flavor was spot on!), or the house salad, along with a veggie egg roll, fried wontons and steamed rice. However, if you get a noodle dish, there won't be any steamed rice. Panang Curry: $13.99, really enjoyed the taste of the curry and chicken. There wasn't as much coconut milk as we are use to, but it didn't change the great flavors. I decided to try something different and I got the Sweet & Sour: $13.99. I ended up getting the chicken and it comes with bell peppers, pineapple, tomatoes, onions, carrot, cucumber in sweet and sour sauce. Overall, enjoyed the dish, the chicken was cooked perfectly and I liked the pineapple pieces too! I was so full after the soup and side dishes, that I ended up having tons left over; what a deal! Staff: 5/5. Staff was very attentive, friendly and the service was quick! I would happily be back!

I heard there was a happy hour but I can't find a menu. Is this accurate?

Yes there is. From 4:30 to 6. A few food options not a bunch and some drink options. Their soup is awesome and it's on the happy hour. Going there today and will post the menu

    Any gluten free options?

Yes--most of their dishes can be "tweaked" (if needed) to be gluten free.

The Big Lion was a generous portion, and we loved having different bread options to choose from. The California Cubano was probably our least favorite -- the fries were great, but the sandwich itself leaned a little too salty for our taste. It wasn't bad by any means, just not the flavor profile we were expecting. The Sunrise Burrito was the star of the show! The potatoes were perfectly seasoned, and it had some of the most delicious avocado I've ever had. Absolute perfection -- we'd come back just for that burrito alone. The coffees were excellent too -- strong, flavorful, and not overly sweet (no "syrup with a splash of coffee" here!). Overall, we were very satisfied. Our total was around $88 for three people, which is actually a pretty solid deal in Ventura. The service really stood out as well -- they were incredibly accommodating with our stroller and even made sure to keep the door closed since we were seated near the entrance so our baby wouldn't get cold. That level of thoughtfulness meant a lot. We'll definitely be back!

The saltiness of the chorizo complimented the buttery biscuit and perfectly runny poached egg. Highly recommend the strawberry and cream croissant French toast!! So deng good, not too sweet, light n fluffy- didn't even need to use maple syrup. Wasn't a fan of the Brie Bacon Omelette. The cheese wasn't fully melted and it overloaded with blackberry jam in the middle. Their espresso and Cute as a Cucumber brunch cocktail were both delicious. It took a while to get our order, not sure if it was because we were in a booth that was tucked into a wall and were out of sight, and also took some time for them to come back with our receipt when we paid. Nothing that would stop me from coming back :)

Tasting: $15 (return flight $9, because sometimes one flight is not enough)…read more Wonderful wines and awesome customer service sum up what this family owned/operated winery is all about. Two sisters (Elissa & Holly) married two brothers (Matt & Mike) and started this weekend project which has turned into quite a fun weekend escape. Elissa and her father, Walt, are usually manning the tasting room and are the most gracious hosts. It's a quaint, boutique winery and tasting room, which recently joined forces with the folks from Trois le Fou Winery. They each have their own tasting rooms, but they're joined and share a large production/barrel room area, which is also available for private events in addition to scheduled events and live music/comedy. They don't offer food, but you are welcome to bring in your own snacks/charcuterie. Parking is plentiful, as the business park is mostly closed on the weekends. WINES: Their wines change regularly, as they purchase their fruit from Paso Robles, Lodi, and San Antonio Valley, among other places. I think that their Sauvignon Blanc is a standard and we really enjoy it, but they also do a nice Sangiovese, Zinfandel, Malbec, Syrah, Petite Sirah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Their "Speakeasy Wine Club" offers three levels of membership: "Blind Grape (6/yr)", "Bootlegger (12/yr)", and "Last Call (18/yr)", depending on the number of bottles you want per shipment/pick-up. Bottles currently run in the $38 - $50 range (before club member discounts). We love visiting the Lester Cellars family and highly recommend you stop in and check out their latest vintages. The service and wine are wonderful, and I'm betting you'll enjoy yourself as much as we do.

Last December, a friend came across The Cave while looking for a place to have lunch in Ventura and…read moresuggested we give it a try. I'm really glad he did because it's the kind of place I probably wouldn't have found on my own. The first thing that caught our attention was the self-serve wine dispensers lined with bottles ready to sample. We had a lot of fun walking back and forth, looking over the different selections, and deciding what to taste next. Being able to sample wines by the ounce before committing to a full glass made the whole experience feel interactive. I especially liked that I could compare different Cabernet Sauvignons side by side, which isn't something you get to do very often. After trying a few different Cabernets, Chimney Rock ended up being my favorite. The dining room added to the experience. The cave-like ceilings, warm lighting, and comfortably spaced tables made it easy to settle in, enjoy our lunch, and catch up without feeling cramped or rushed. If you enjoy trying different wines, it's easy to lose track of time here. We started with a cheese plate, which turned out to be much more generous than I expected. It came with a nice assortment of cheeses, crisp apple slices, grapes, candied walnuts, crostini, and a savory relish on the side. It was a great dish to share with our wine. My friend ordered the tuna poke tower, and we shared the cheese flatbread and sweet potato fries. I went with the Original Cave Salad with salmon, which came with a generous piece of perfectly cooked salmon over fresh greens, apples, grapes, walnuts, and blue cheese. Everything tasted fresh, and the portions were generous enough that we left completely satisfied. One thing I appreciated was that we never felt rushed. Lunch naturally turned into an afternoon of catching up, comparing notes on the different wines, and deciding which pours we wanted to try next. Before we left, we wandered through the wine shop one more time. If you discover a favorite during lunch, you can pick up a bottle before heading home, which is a nice touch. I'm really glad my friend found this place. The next time I'm in Ventura, it'll definitely be on my list again.

The day before, the owner Michele couldn't seem to find the paperwork where we discussed menu, family style, decor, budget etc. Thankfully, we went in the day before to double check everything. Not only were we met with a misogynistic retort to everything we talked about but he did not clarify any details that we later found out would be important. The day of the event, we accidentally hit a bottle of wine bringing in the decorations. Total accident! During the party, we had to constantly find our server (super nice guy but terrible service) to take drink orders, to take food orders, and to clear the table and bring to go boxes. Drinks weren't refilled. We cut and served the cake we brought. Then our bill comes and surprising to us, we were charged a room fee (which I confirmed they DID NOT have prior to booking), charged a cake fee (just for them to store it in their fridge and NEVER told there would be a fee for bringing a dessert, despite Michele asking the day before if we were bringing our own or using them for dessert), and he charged us $50 for the bottle we accidentally broke. With all these extra charges, in addition to already paying a deposit, we were way over the previously discussed budget. I never would have agreed to his idea of everyone ordering individual dishes instead of family style plus his outrageous extra fees had I know it was going to blow the budget. He had every opportunity to tell us there is a cake fee (never have I EVER had to pay a fee to bring a cake- even our server said he felt it was in poor taste to charge us for that). We refused to pay the room fee because we already put down a deposit and were never told there would be these extraneous charges! The terrible ending happened when I slipped and fell (8 months pregnant) in the front of the restaurant RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE OWNER, who stood over me as I was on the ground, and said "you must have slipped on the wine you spilled." Never offered concern, never offered to help me and never apologized. A staff member from the kitchen ran out to help me despite Michel being an arms length from me, looking down on me. Such a disgrace. My dress was dirtied from their floor and I was left with bruises on my knees the next day. No wet floor sign, clearly the floor wasn't cleaned up properly or dried. We will never patronize this restaurant again. What was meant to be a beautiful event turned into a calamity met with a chauvinist owner who lacks customer service and compassion.

It's never overly crowded or overwhelming, making it a great place to unwind and enjoy a peaceful experience. My wife and I often stop by on weekend mornings for coffee. While it can get a bit busier when the nearby church lets out, it still maintains a comfortable and laid-back vibe. It's one of our favorite spots to sit back, relax, and enjoy some quiet time together. We've also had the opportunity to try their wine, and it was a fantastic experience. It's great to have such a wonderful local business close to home, offering quality coffee and wine without the hassle of heavy traffic or large crowds. This place deserves more recognition than it gets. Although it's somewhat hidden, it's become one of our favorite places to visit, and we always look forward to coming back.

I'm excited to see what the owners decide to do with the business - and see how it evolves. I'd love to see it become more family friendly in the am and more adult in the pm. The employees were kind, place was clean, there's in and outdoor seating, and parking is what you make of it as PP is located on a blocked off street where cars are not permitted. All to say, research where you wish to walk about, find a meter or free parking lot - enough around, and put on your good yet cute walking shoes because you'll enjoy strolling about after your meal here - or drink. FOOD: I sooo loved my grill cheese. Instead of mushrooms I swapped for spinach - you're welcome. AND THE PICKLE ON THE SIDE - delish! So why 4 and not 5? Because of my limited lifestyle I found the menu a bit limiting. However, I am not a HUGE cheese person and I don't drink. With that said, I feel anyone else who loves to indulge in that world should have a super great experience. Mine was still great. WELL: I actually enjoyed my time and shall return. My mother loves a good red wine so I'll bring her too.
