What I really want is to give this a 3.5 but a 3 is more accurate than a 4 for the taste but I'm inclined to give it a 4 for the service. First off, amazing service, the staff is attentive and considerate. Now for the bad. I would say this place is tailored towards more westernized taste as there's no chopsticks unless you as for it and all the menu has a spicy sign next to it, even the pineapple fried rice which everyone knows is not spicy. With that said, I got the pineapple fried rice with pork and a medium size tom yum. The tom yum was too sour for my taste and the pork was too lean and not juicy, and maybe even overcooked. I did like the rice and everything else that came with it. I overheard the customer next to me asking about the chili sauce they used and they were patient and kind enough to give them a packet of the sample. Chili Basil hit the spot on a travel day! Enjoyed: unique menu items (beef satay and beef brisket Massaman curry were both outstanding), all the sauces, the presentation (everything was pretty!), and the roti. The servers were also attentive without hovering, and it wasn't noisy even when lots of people were there. It smelled good as soon as we walked in. Could improve: cooking at least some of the bean sprouts in the pad thai, removing shrimp tails before serving, searing the beef satay slightly more. My favorite food is Thai, so I had high expectations and boy did they exceed! I loved their relaxing music, jazz type. The decor is so beautiful and unique. Staff was very attentive and great at recommending dishes. They even have a wonderful happy hour on weekends! I absolutely love fresh rolls & peanut sauce so of course we ordered them. Had a team lunch today. It was a rainy day, I ordered the Sweet & Sour crispy chicken with Tom Yum soup and jasmine rice instead of the salad. The lunch combo also came with an egg roll, which was a nice bonus. The crispy chicken was perfectly crunchy on the outside and tender inside. The sweet and sour sauce had a great balance of flavors. We were very happy with this restaurant. The ambience was relaxed, comfortable and welcoming. They had nice music in the background too! We had an appetizer of fresh shrimp spring rolls that were very yummy. You get three but they are on the small side. They had the typical veggies but also had a thin slice of tofu on the inside instead of noodles. They included shrimp, romaine, basil, cucumber and maybe some other fillings. They served the spring rolls cut in half with a peanut sauce and sweet teriyaki-like sauce. The combination dish was really a complete meal, we ordered crispy chicken. It had the main dish, rice (steamed or fried), one small fried veggie egg roll, one small fried shrimp, 2 fried wontons, teriyaki style dipping sauce, soup (Tom Kha with chicken) or salad. We chose sweet and sour sauce on the Crispy Chicken and it included pineapple, red bell pepper, green bell pepper, onion, carrots, and a little zucchini. It was very flavorful, not too sweet and it was filling. The crispy chicken was very tasty and tender. There were a few crispy pieces with no chicken in it but not enough to complain about. You also get a free Thai milk tea if you order a certain amount of food. I ordered Pad See Ew and it was full flavored, tender noodles and a lot of steamed tofu (I requested steamed but you can get fried if you like). It came with pieces Chinese broccoli ( not enough for me but enough to get true flavor from it). The dish was a good amount and the traditional sauce was just right (not too dark and not too light). They serve beer and wine only and they had Stella no-alcohol beer. The greeting at the door showed they appreciated our business! The service was excellent, respectful, not too much, not too little, asked the right questions, served what we ordered and had a smile at all times. The restaurant had music playing, but it wasn't too loud and it was pretty quiet overall (granted it had just opened for the day). Each dish comes with your choice of Chicken Tom Yum Soup (absolutely delicious, the flavor was spot on!), or the house salad, along with a veggie egg roll, fried wontons and steamed rice. However, if you get a noodle dish, there won't be any steamed rice. Panang Curry: $13.99, really enjoyed the taste of the curry and chicken. There wasn't as much coconut milk as we are use to, but it didn't change the great flavors. I decided to try something different and I got the Sweet & Sour: $13.99. I ended up getting the chicken and it comes with bell peppers, pineapple, tomatoes, onions, carrot, cucumber in sweet and sour sauce. Overall, enjoyed the dish, the chicken was cooked perfectly and I liked the pineapple pieces too! I was so full after the soup and side dishes, that I ended up having tons left over; what a deal! They have this one dish that you can't find many places, and it's to DIE for. I crave it regularly now. It's called Khao Soi. The pumpkin curry with fish was all perfectly cooked, the right thickness, and with extremely fresh vegetables. The garlic eggplant was also perfectly cooked and I was impressed by the cook on the scallops. They have combination specials that are an excellent deal that include soup, a main dish, and fried shrimp, fried wonton wrappers, and an eggroll. All great. This Thai restaurant is fairly new, having adopted the previous Italian restaurant's brick infrastructure, Italian flag banquette, and rustic decor. It makes for an interesting vibe. The service was absolutely lovely. The menus were very clear and they had specials on the tabletop. We didn't look at the specials but the server was kind enough to mention that we qualified for two of their specials! It was a spend this amount and get dessert free kind of the thing. The food was delicious. The combo meal is definitely the most bang for your buck and provides a nice variety of texture and flavors - highly recommend. It was been a while since I saw a sign for this place and I love Thai food so I decided to try when they open and just had the opportunity to do it! I'm glad I came and got to meet their wonderful owner Lea. Very nice women and took our feedback about food since it's a new Place and was grateful for us to be there and give her feedback about food to advise the chef. I would definitely return here. After reading so many positive reviews from my friends here on Yelp I decided to go check this place out. The food is so good! But what really stood out to me was their customer service! Lea was our waitress I believe she's also the owner. She was phenomenal! She sat us down right away and gave me kids coloring pages and crayons to keep them entertained while we decided on what to order. I couldn't decide on whether or not I wanted my soup creamy or not, so they brought me a sample of each. I decided on their creamy version! Lea also added noodles to our soup! I loved how much more texture it added to the soup. The soup also had plenty of shrimp was great, because that can be a problem in other places. They have a grand opening special right now. Chili Basil is our new favorite Thai place. We like that it is on the east side of Ventura so we don't have to drive downtown anymore. The chili basil chicken fried rice is amazing!! Even better if you like it spicy with the little green jalapeño peppers and red chili paste. The service is always great and I love how they greet you in Thai and thank you. The ambiance gives you the feeling your eating something authentic along with the taste of the food. Happy hour is a great deal too and they have some good local IPA beer on tap along with Thai beer. Went here on a whim around close to 8 PM. First impression was it is a very welcoming and clean place. So glad it's nearby and a great addition to the shopping area. The server was very nice and patient. Service was prompt and courteous. They provided us a kids menu with sturdy utensils. My son found their menu cute and was quite pleased with the options. The kids menu is only for 10 and under. **You cannot substitute fried rice for the steamed rice as fried rice is one of their options (we learned this since my son wanted sour chicken with fried rice). The kids menu does come with a drink, french fries, and fruit in season. The orange slices were very sweet that he actually asked for more slices. For appetizer, we decided to get the Chili Basil Sampler. Everything was delicious. Only complaint made by the bf was that the ribs, although, melted off the bone, was a bit dry. It may be because it was late and close to closing time. But everything else was great. Definitely loved the chicken satay. Perfect and soft - kid approved! House salad and house dressing are delicious and flavory. It was sweet and light. We all loved it. Pad See Ew with chicken was very delicious and flavorful. It was fresh, moist, and buttery. Great portion size. The soup it came with (tom yum soup) was great! Usually hesitant with getting soups, but this is recommendable. Loved it! Panang curry was very flavorful as well, and had an authentic Thai spice. Portion size was acceptable for both the curry and rice, but could be a bit more - definitely only meant for single person meal and not made for a lot of left overs. Also, they do have a full separate vegan menu as well as traditional Thai menu. The Thai tea was yummy! Coconut and almond milk options for Thai tea - we found out later.
