Adelitas' version is comforting, approachable, and deeply homey. It tastes less like a culinary experiment and more like something your abuela has been making for decades. The carne asada was tender, the rice and beans were exactly what they should be, and every bite reminded me why comfort food never goes out of style. Before leaving, I made the smartest decision of the evening. Tres leches to go. I devoured it later at home while Netflix asked if I was still watching. The cake somehow manages to be light while completely satisfying. Don't skip it. Better yet, don't pretend you're saving it for tomorrow. Adelitas isn't trying to impress you. The comes with rice and beans, additionally. Though I was under the impression I ordered the jefe size, they asked me if I wanted rice and beans. So the total confused me a smidge and when I received my food I thought it was small, but nonetheless this was my destiny on this scorching hot day. Though a small box, it was hefty, so we were off to a good start. It's not much to look at, with rice on the bottom, and all beans, green chile, steak, cheese, and guac piled on top. Mix it up and you get a sloppy Tex-Mex cocktail, and you know what it could be worse! The major disappointment here was the steak. If I'm eating anything in bowl form, the protein has to be the star. It certainly wasn't. On a positive note, the green chile was spicy and the guacamole added that citrusy limey kick needed to balance all the other flavorful characters. Definitely recommend adding something like guac to cut through those other rich ingredients. I ended up eating the whole thing, and though it may not look like much from the pictures, it was deceivingly substantial and more filling than I initially thought. I'm not running back, but I think there's potential here. I'd be curious to try a breakfast burrito with eggs, potato, chorizo, and spicy green chile. That'd be my order next time!
