I nearly walked into Gus's BBQ because I missed the sign pointing to the Whisper House entrance. Plenty of free street and structure parking in downtown Claremont since it's a college town. Servers were attentive and noticed when we needed refills and answered our questions.

A friend I met many years ago at a wine tasting invited me to a Burgundy wine class at Packing House Wines, and I attended. The store is located up a few steps on the north side of the Claremont Packing House. Parking is usually not an issue as there is a big multi-level parking garage on the east side of the packing house. All attendees sat down to a list of wines to be tasted, a printed out copy of the slides being presented, a big burgundy wine glass for pours, water, and a nice little charcuterie plate. The owner Sal gave the presentation, and it was easily the best wine class I have ever attended. He talks pretty fast, but not too fast, and his delivery was excellent, providing an extensive amount of information that was easy to understand. We pretty much learned everything about Burgundy wines from the history of the region, the stringent production laws, different classes of Burgundy wines, and details about all of the different producers and regions we tasted wines from. The class was scheduled for two hours, but it ended up lasting for two and a half hours. It would have been easy to stay for much longer as the class and wines were very enjoyable. The wine class was a little pricey at $125 per person, but this was a bargain as Burgundy wines are expensive. We were able to taste ten 1.5 ounce pours including several Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines (one of them was $350/bottle). My favorites were the '17 Albert Bichot Fixin ($53.99) and the '20 Domaine Lecheneaut Vosne Romanee ($124.99) which I purchased. They have wine classes regularly, and I will definitely return if one catches my eye. They have quite a selection of wines for sale, as well as tasting flights and food from their kitchen.

Seriously. Some of the best onion rings I've had in a long time. Very well seasoned breading and perfectly cooked. The breading was crispy, but not crunchy. I love craggly, thick onion rings, but sometimes those do a number on the roof of your mouth. These? I could eat 'em all day. Service was great although it did kinda take a little too long for the food to come out, but I guess it was worth the wait. I love the inside of the space too. Sometimes, I get a craving for Chili's chips and salsa, especially with a nice blended margarita. So, I decided to invite my cousin to hit up the restaurant with me. It had been years since I last went to Chili's, and I was excited to go back. The chips and salsa were just as good as I remembered, but honestly, the food was a bit of a letdown this time, not as awesome as I recalled from before. Plus, the margaritas here were way sweeter than I expected, which some people might like, but it wasn't what I was in the mood for. my husband got FOOD POISON here with the Ribeye, spent one day in the Emergency room at the hospital and paid almost $3,000 in medical bills including the Ambulance (no insurance at that time) The hospital clearly stated food poison then Chili's Insurance said: SINCE NOBODY ELSE GOT SICK... WE WILL ONLY GIVE YOU $200.00. we have NOT stepped in a Chili's restaurant ever since........ please if you go there be careful and check your food before eating it becase a $40 meal can cost you thousands in medical bills. read more

I use to love Chili's. It's a shame how far downhill they've gone. The food is complete and utter crap, I mean, it's AWFUL. My boyfriend and I came in one night before closing and the server looked obviously irritated that we disrupted their closing duties. We ordered a few things, and they all came out so salty it was barely edible. The server was unfriendly, took our order and never checked on us again after that. Very disappointing. Another member of our crew had hairs (plural) in his food. Oh and don't ask for salad dressing for a salad because they won't give it to you. Maybe it was just a bad shift but I doubt it. I think this is just another example of late stage capitalism at its finest which harms hard working consumers like you and I.

On the positive side, the place has some really cute décor--I actually liked the old advertisements on the walls, and the little mini sink for handwashing was a fun touch. Kids menus were cool. The kiddos can wear them as hats after or before coloring on the inside. The staff was friendly, but the service was surprisingly slow, especially since the restaurant was basically empty. Surprised to see a BBQ establishment with barely any patrons near the airport. The food was okay, nothing terrible but nothing memorable either. Honestly, between the sticky table and the slow service, I ended up losing my appetite and didn't finish my meal. This is not a typical thing that I do.
