Color me surprised when I found Chill on the Hill while I was out in the beautiful Chestnut Hills. The inside of this place is clean and adorned with minimalistic decor. There aren't many flavors to choose from, but I was fully satisfied with their version of the original tart. Toppings here were kept nice, tidy, and stocked. It would've been awesome if they had the melted chocolate crisps, but the options they had were fine. Parking here could be somewhat challenging since it's nestled in the midst of a major street. You may find some luck in the residential area nearby after driving around for a bit. read more

This used to be one of my favorite spots in Chestnut Hill but the last couple times it's been a bit disappointing. The young girls working there just don't seem to care and aren't very helpful. I asked one of them to clean up a mess someone had left so I wouldn't get frozen yogurt all over my shoes. She literally went and sat back down and started looking at her phone. Best local frozen yogurt shop. They're perfect for quick treats, as most visits (take out) are less than 3 minutes! You choose your flavors, and toppings and weigh it to find out your total. There were very "chill" vibes! See what I did there? Being serious though, the best thing to get is by far cake batter with cookie dough. That's just a personal preference, though. Didn't know this place existed as it's off of the main street Germantown Ave. I was super excited because if it turned out good, I wouldn't have to travel all the way to South Street to my favorite frozen yogurt place. Parking: metered on the street. Atmosphere: open and bright. I like that you can sit in. Service: We expected a welcome when we came through the door but didn't receive one . We are also used to being offered to taste a flavor. We weren't. The frozen yogurt and topping selection wasn't that great. We felt flavors didn't match the toppings offered. I love to support our local shops and restaurants but I am done with this place. Service is horrible normally but often overlook it. Tonight we got there 15 minutes before closing with a group of 8. Finally! A make your own frozen yogurt in Chestnut Hill! We are thrilled to have them here. We've visited a couple of times now and the staff is very friendly and helpful. There are 10 flavors and an option two swirl the paired flavors which is fun. Only one of them was a bit off, coffee and pomegranate were paired, which I don't think would work too well. I'm sure they will work out all the matches! The quality is fantastic. I loved mine. The toppings are great and numerous as well. The absolute best part of this place is the decor, every aspect of its design has been thoughtfully executed even down to the pillows (see photos). read more

I've been there twice in the past week and both times they have been closed. The google hours and store hours posted said they would be open. Apparently frozen yogurt on a snowy day in the winter is a good idea if you have a teenage child. I couldn't resist announcing as we walked through the door "isn't it a bit chilly for chill?", of course the teenager does not realize how funny her mother is, so I got the eye roll. Cute place, decorated with multicolor bulls heads, and a good looking all white seating area. A few pops of color in pillows and candy prints on the wall. Pretty much your classic frozen yogurt shop, complete with 10 flavors, and lots of toppings and sauces. Their logo is really cute, they have a nice decal of it on their windows and even some T-shirts and hoodies in their store. We got the cookies and cream frozen yogurt with toppings and whipped cream. Unfortunately the quality continues to go down. The employees are always eating while at the register. The interior of the store is dirty. The students who work there and parents do not do a good job of monitoring the small children who add the toppings to the yogurt. Little fingers are everywhere. I used to go to Chill on the Hill frequently, and it was such a great neighborhood space... it seems like it is going downhill. Tonight, after calling first, then asking AGAIN when we got there, I was told by the clearly unsure employee that a certain flavor did not contain egg. I started to serve it to my stepson, who is incredibly allergic to egg, only to have the employee come out with the ingredient list (which he obviously hadn't checked BEFORE) and note that there was indeed egg in that flavor. THANK GOD my stepson hadn't taken a bite. To top it all off - ugh! - a bunch of the toppings were clearly stale. If that's your business - frozen yogurt and toppings - be good at it. Keep things fresh. It's not going to kill you to open a new bag of Oreos. And if you're going to hire employees - make sure they know the LAW about food safety and allergies. read more

Hey lovelies, I'm back. Sometimes you have an experience that inspires you. Today was that day. I wanted to take my kiddos out for a special treat and as much as we love Custards and Cake Creamery on Ridge, I wanted something different. Sigh. I figured it would be pricy but clean and happy and busy. Nope on all accounts. There were people sitting on the bench outside eating. It's 91° currently. The only view was that of the shop as it's on a side street. Warning number one. When you walk in it's nice and bright and she gave a cheery hello. As I looked at the 8 options of yogurt I noticed a little gnat fly by. No big. Until I saw 2 more. Still wasn't quite enough to deter me. {side note: my 4 year old son was with us, barring a fire there was no way I could leave before we got our treats.} We filled our cups and proceeded to the toppings bar. It was at this point I saw what looked to be a fucking URINE SAMPLE with fruit flies circling it. I hope it was a fruit fly trap and not the former. The originally pleasant cashier became disinterested after that first interaction. Maybe it exhausted her to use so much energy to say hi? She was only able to manage to bring her phone to her face and tap and scroll, giving me quick "no" replies to my queries since none of the toppings were labeled. So we still proceed with the transaction. {Idiots like myself that continue to stay at insect infected places are the reason that Yelp exists. You're welcome.} We sit at one of the dirty tables because Four wanted to. I watch as Disinterested Cashier gets some energy and starts to clean. Bolstered by this, I nudge my husband, excited that they do clean and that maybe we caught them at a bad moment. We took selfies, cheered with our giant froyo cups, threw jimmies in the air in celebration until we heard a whirring sound. Like a vacuum. The floor is laminate. What could she be... Oh... Oh no. It's a handvac. She's handvac'ing the condiment area. She's. Using. A. Hand. Vac. To. Clean. The. Toppings. Station. Is this life? Are we being punked? She then came around the counter to clean the yogurt machines and we noticed that she was wearing flip flops. And her ankle was bleeding. Probably ravaged by the fucking flies and fruit flies. I only went here as it looked promising on Yelp from the reviews, it was near to where I was at the time, and I with a few notable exceptions try to avoid chain places and am willing to try out an indie place. Now if I were to give a one word review of this place it would be "overpriced." For about 4 dollars I got less frozen dairy product than I would have gotten from a Mister Softee cone. Oh, they don't have cones as it would apparently clash with the get a tub stick the fancy frozen yogurt in the tub yourself and dump various topping items on it since we are charging by weight gimmick. The self serve frozen yogurt is amazing,the decor is cute, and this is the only place like it in the area, so I will be returning. That said, all of the teenagers who work here are totally incompetent and disinterested. They all sit behind the register clearly on their cell phones, sometimes with homework out on the countertop. Meanwhile, the place is always a mess. Tables are never cleared or wiped down- you have to clean the tables yourself before daring to sit down. The yogurt machines are always a mess- drops and littered sample cups everywhere. The place is always swarming with fruit flies. Toppings in the topping bar are only refilled if you request them- many trays sit empty unless a customer asks for something. When you do ask the preoccupied teen behind the counter for a sample cup, to refill a topping, or for something to wipe down a dirty table with they look at you like you're crazy and act like you're bothering them. Then do the bare minimum to appease you before giving you RBF and returning to their phone. Lastly, the hours are inconsistent. Online they're posted as 12-9, the door may say something different. But I've gone by at 5 or 6pm and the place is just closed, no sign on the door or website or anything. When you ask someone about it the next time you're in there, they have no idea what you're talking about and say maybe whoever was supposed to work was on vacation. Cool, I hope they had fun! I wish the owner would get their shit together and hire some half decent staff- that would make Chill on the Hill a much more pleasurable experience. read more

Chill is a place I stumbled onto by accident. It is just off germantown avenue (Right next to Cake) so it is easy to go unnoticed but I'm very happy I decided to stop in. They have a decent mix of flavors and you pretty much make your own frozen yogurt. Just be careful because the cups are all big and you pay 49 cents per ounce. If you have self control this is a pretty good price... If you're like my (wonderful) girlfriend and you're going to try everything and pack the cup as much as possible it's gonna cost a bit more. All in all the atmosphere was nice, the staff was friendly and the frozen yogurt was excellent. What more can you ask for? read more
