I was initially drawn to Chill Out Transportation because of their great reviews and easy online booking and I am thrilled to say it all lived up to expectations! Al from Chill Out is AMAZING! His level of service is truly above-and-beyond, particularly as he drove us to a busy part of Massachusetts from the Boston airport and was always calm and collected. Al's vehicle was spotless, very clean and he is a great driver. He knew his way around very well and wasn't stressed by Boston and greater Boston area traffic. He was a pleasure to talk to and get to know (though I think he would have respected our boundaries to not talk if we were tired). We flew into Boston on Christmas night, arriving at 8:44. I had texted with the owner and arranged a car to pick us up at the airport-5 adults, a baby, luggage, a car seat and a stroller. I texted Alfred when we landed. He told me what door to exit and where he would be. As we got our luggage he called to let us know he was waiting on us. He brought a car seat even though we had ours which was nice because it was COLD and being able to put the baby right into the car was great. Getting our luggage loaded was like a Jenga puzzle but Alfred assured us he could make it work and he did! He was friendly, on time, and the car was very clean and nice. This service was a GODSEND! We were traveling with a 1 year old and didn't want to check a car seat. We didn't want to take the train with our luggage and could not find an affordable taxi from the airport ($150 for a 10 minute ride??!!) Chill out came to our rescue, worked with our budget, and was very professional. We reserved via text and called when we landed. If he doesn't pick up don't panic he called us back within 10 mins. Flying out of and into Logan with an entire family is a huge pain in the neck at the best of times. Doing it at 6am or 10pm, when everyone is cranky, underslept (or feeling like a layer of airplane grime is clinging to your skin) and just grumpy as all get out is worse. Uber and Lyft for a full-on family is rolling the dice and hoping you come up with a 24 on four dice, and taxi service means you have to hope there's a minivan available, because you can't fit everyone in a normal taxi. It's almost enough to make you want to brave long-term parking. Except that option wickedly expensive. Enter Chill Out, who has a flat-rate to the airport, contact ahead, and you are good to go. The ride was smooth, there was no question that we were going to be able to load the car on time (Alfred was there ten minutes before departure time!) and we got to the airport with zero incidents. I asked if he could pick us up on the return trip? Why yes, yes he could, would I just please text 24 hours ahead of time to confirm flight times, and also let him know if there were delays? Sure, that was a piece of cake. Pickup took an extra ten minutes because he was dropping somebody else at the airport, and they had a LOT of luggage, but waiting ten minutes out at the terminal, knowing that he would be there ASAP and we'd be home soon? Not a problem - especially knowing that the airport police don't like folks idling in front of the terminal. We got home less than an hour after we got off the plane - that's *unheard of* in our family; either we're fighting with airport parking, or we're waiting for a taxi or a Lyft. We hired Al to drop us off at the airport. Surprisingly, he showed up 30 minutes later than our agreed pick-up time. I had no choice but to call an Uber when Al was already 15 minutes late. Thankfully the Uber navigated around traffic with the GPS' help and arrived quickly - just at the same time as Al. My wife and I preferred not to take an Uber to the airport as we were traveling with kids and it was more convenient to be dropped off at the airport curb - something Uber isn't allowed to do. Al's excuse for being late was the traffic although I had a hunch he was not using the GPS nor any navigation app/software. I confirmed this hunch when he kept asking which part of town I was in. I kept thinking, why does he have to ask me my location when he has our address and all he has to do is follow the GPS? He wasn't using the GPS. I've hired a lot of car service providers and have never had a driver show up late. Let alone 30 minutes late! It was a terrible experience for my family and me. It started off great. Response and booking was prompt... but the day of service.... Lordy that is another story. Notified driver our flight was delayed. Didn't hear from him until when I finally got on the wifi 30- 1hr before we were to land. Got some text messages "did you land?" Actually just refer to the picture of the text threads. Basically responded to him appropriately and never heard from him again and not to mention he had our flight number to begin with so he could have easily tracked our flight. Landing at 130 am with a four month old baby, a 7 year old son, 13 year old niece, and two more adults and come to find that your driver abandoned your reservation was pretty disappointing. read more

And unlike most taxi cabs allow you to reserve in advance. There's even tinted windows in the back for added privacy. To one company, more loyal I'll never be. I hate cabs in Boston. I also hate calling cabs in Boston, cause I'm always convinced they won't show up or screw me over somehow. Rewind to last Friday- I had a 6:45am flight and I had no choice but to get a taxi, since the subway wouldn't open in time and I wouldn't ask any of my friends to give me a ride at 5am on a work day :-). After reading through all the Yelp reviews, I finally decided on Chill Out First Class Cab. I called him and he seemed a bit confused about my address, which made me nervous. But 30 seconds after I hung up, he texted me confirmation with time (5:15am) and address! Made me feel much more confident. I read some of the reviews that mentioned he got there early, so I made it outside around 5am. A minute or two later, he pulled up! The ride to the airport was quick, and his car (which was black, not a traditional 'taxi') was nice inside. He was friendly and drove quickly but safely. The rate was $40 flat rate from Cambridge including luggage and toll, which is a bit more expensive than meter rides to the airport that I've taken (by about $5), but is definitely nice if there is a lot of traffic or the ride is slower than normal. I'll definitely be using him again on early airport rides. He told me to text or call him in the future to set up another trip! read more

I have used this cab company twice. The first time was in the summer. They came right away without much notice. Minus one star because they didn't accept credit cards at the time (not sure if they do now) This time was the worst cab experience ever, so minus two more stars. I called last night to request a 5:30 AM pickup to the airport. I wanted to get in early enough to beat the rush hour traffic, as it was likely we would be getting a snow storm, and wanted to give myself time for expected slow moving traffic with the weather. Chill out cab didn't show up until FOURTY minutes after my requested time... 5:30: not here 5:40: I call, and the conversation goes like this: me; Is there a cab on the way? I called for a 5:30AM pickup" (I even confirmed my phone number, address, and the time via text message the night before, as they requested). them: "You didn't call this morning so I figured you wanted to cancel because of the snow." me: "If I DIDN'T call to cancel, why would you just assume I don't need you?? I called last night to request a 5:30AM pickup." them: "Well there were many flight cancellations, so we figured you didn't need us." We argue about this crazy assumption for a minute, then he tells me he will have someone to my place in 5-10 minutes. 15 minutes later...now 25 minutes late I call them to see where they are...now stressing because I need to make a flight. I'm told they are on my street. My condo is the only building on my street at a dead end. So another 5 minutes later I call and am told he is at my place. Clearly not, because I'm out front waiting in the snow. They ask if I can walk to the main road. UUUUUUMMMMMMM NOOOOOOOO I'm going to Vegas and I have cute leather boots on, and all my luggage and it's snowing like a bitch. I finally get the cab driver himself to call me and I literally have to say...."Are you in the main parking lot? Turn your head to your right...do you see a big building with the address (*insert my address here*) on it? Okay...drive over here." He showed up at 6:10AM. Fourty minutes late. No apologies for being super late, and actually stood up for the dispatcher who assumed I didn't need a cab anymore. Awful. Don't use them in inclimate weather. I have been out of Al's cab for less than 15 minutes and I am overwhelmed with the need to review him First of all, I owe 3 people a debt of gratitude. I luvs you all Now, back to the review... I was in dire straights tonight as I was cash poor, and with a bum leg, unable to climb the mountain of a hill from my closest bus-stop to my apartment. I reached out to Yelp for an answer and Leighann helped. AL!!!! Al will save the day. Al was willing to pick up a first time client, allowing them to use a credit card, which most of the bigger corporate cabs won't even do. He picks me up in UNDER 2 minutes!!!!! Oh... my... god...! Takes me home, apologizes for the minute and a half it took my card to go through (seriously!?!?! what the hell does he have to apologize for? saving my ass? being a kick-ass cab driver?). He then makes sure I am okay to get to my house with my leg feeling as it is, and to top it off, waits till I get inside before driving off. I have been on dates where the guy hasn't even done that!!!!! There are a dozen other good things I can say about all, but the other reviewers have already covered it. Sad to say I had a very similar experience to Carolyn S. Scheduled a 5AM pickup to the airport for a 6am flight. It was a debacle just to schedule the pickup (he never replied to my text request, he said his texts "weren't working" so I had to call separately to confirm it). Then when pickup time came around I was outside 5 mins early. Nobody there, 5am passes, then 505. I call at 510. He asks where I am and when I say "waiting outside" he says oh I missed you itll be 15 mins. 15 minutes!?!? Complete BS story, clearly he didn't wake up on time. No apology, he just asks what time my flight is and then asks me what time it currently is (umm shouldn't he know this?) and says that he thinks there is still plenty of time for him to get me. NO THANKs! I cancel and call a cab which arrives promptly 3 mins after I call. I've used Chill Out before and it has usually been a good experience but I've noticed the poor (see: late) service the last 2 times I've used it. Interestingly the change in service came when we started getting a new driver. I suspect the company was sold as I've been dealing with this different person on all the correspondence and drives the last 2 times I've used it. I'd caution anyone that is considering them for an early morning flight- look at the review from Carolyn S and others below- there is clearly an issue here with making early morning pickups. read more

Arranged for an early morning pick up, and I was outside looking around at least 2 minutes before the agreed upon time. After it had been 3-4 minutes after the pick up time, I texted the cab company. According to the person who answered, the driver had picked someone up already. Well that's great, but they didn't pick me up, and I have a train to catch! I then have to ask if he'll send someone else, and he says he'll try. This is not the right answer. I run around the block, to a busier street to try and see if I can hail a cab. I'm pregnant, and I was specifically trying to not have to put extra strain on myself by taking a cab. Will never use this company again. Glad it works for other people. read more

I've used Chill Out before but this morning's trip reminded me to write a Yelp review. I've used them for trips to the airport from Tufts ($35 flat rate? Yes please), and always had friendly, timely service. When I became a junior and my friends got cars, I didn't call Chill Out for a while because my friends took me to the airport. Today's flight, however, falls in the middle of Hell Week for my school, so I called at 7am for a 9:30am cab. No problem, the guy said. Except at 9:15am I got a call that my flight was cancelled. Immediately called Chill Out again to cancel the cab, which he was incredibly nice about considering it was last-minute and I was flustered and on the verge of tears from my flight cancellation. Spent an hour on the phone with United and got on another flight, called Chill Out again and requested a cab ASAP. I recognized at this point that I was being a colossal pain in the ass and apologized profusely, but he just said it wasn't my fault at all and it was no problem. By the time I gathered up my carry-on and got downstairs, he was sitting patiently in his (very clean) car, door and trunk open for me. I could have kissed him. The drive itself was quick and pleasant, and I got to the airport with time to spare. Will definitely be calling again for pick-up when I come back in January - the drive was better than when my friends took me (and the car cleaner)! read more

Boston seems to have bad luck with cabs. I was staying in Brookline, and like everyone else who has posted a review of this company, I had a 6:45am flight. I called Chill Out the night before around 9:30pm. No one answered so I hung up and debated who else to call. While I was debating they called back. He asked me to text him the address and pick up time and said he'd text back a confirmation. That is exactly what happened, within five mins. Very quick. After reading all the yelp reviews of cab services in Boston I had THE FEAR. I waited outside a few mins before the cab was going to arrive. Pick up set for 5:15am, I'm outside at 5:12. I wait until 5:15... no one around. I decide, due to THE FEAR (caused by Yelp) that I would wait until 5:20 and then call. The black town car approached at 5:19 and the driver immediately apologized for being late (they were barely late) and helped me with my bag. Lots of leg room in the car and it was clean and nice. Driver was very nice and we had a friendly conversation on the way to the airport. I paid $40 flat rate for the drive, and gave the guy a $5 tip. I assume that I could have found a cheaper cab to the airport, $40 seems like a lot for such a short drive (15 min drive ish, as it was so early and there was no traffic at all) but I was too anxious to save 10 bucks. Dig it? (Please note: I don't really know anything about Boston or cabs in Boston... I have no idea how much driving from Brookline to the airport with the meter on would come to.) read more

When I take a cab in Boston, my expectation is that I will get completely screwed. So, I was completely floored by the fantastic service I got from Chill Out. On the day before Thanksgiving, the cab I had reserved from Bay State Taxi to go to the airport didn't show up. I called Chill Out out of desperation and they were at my door in 5 minutes and got me to the airport in time to make my flight. Added to that, my driver was not creepy and made pleasant conversation during the ride. The best part is yet to come though. I left my phone in the cab and emailed them about it 2 days later (when I figured out where I had left it). They not only emailed me back right away, but then arranged to drop my phone off at my apartment the next day. I've used these guys twice to catch 6am flights and both times they were exactly on time. Usually when I catch early morning flights to the airport the only thing that concerns me is the cab arrives on time, so to my pleasant surprise the first time I used this service, the car that picked me up was a black towncar. It was the same price as a regular taxi but much nicer! Second time I got a taxi, but still had superb service (driver got out to help load bags, very nice guy). Apparently whether you get a towncar or regular taxi is just luck of the draw depending in the taxis in the area. Not sure if you can request one. My only concern the first time was the taxi didn't call me when he was downstairs, I had to call dispatch to confirm. The second time though they confirmed my reservation via text message right after I called and texted me when the taxi arrived. All in all great service! read more

I love it when Yelp steers me in the right direction! I was staying in JP with a friend and had an 8am flight. It was hard finding a company that would come out to JP and take me to the airport. I called COFC the night before my flight to get a price. The price sounded very reasonable. I told them I would call back if I wanted to book. I called around and other places were more expensive, less friendly, or just wouldn't come to JP. I ended up calling COFC back, as I wanted to schedule a pickup with them. They didn't answer on the first call, so I sent a text message. The driver immediately responded and asked for the address. He then confirmed via text. He was not only there by 5:30am (when we needed the ride) but he was 5 - 10 minutes early. He helped us with our bags. The car was big and clean. The driver was extremely friendly. He took credit card and it was easy. The whole process was the easiest cab reservation process I've ever been a part of. I HIGHLY recommend this company. I have to say, I really wanted to like these guys. The reviews are awesome...everyone else seems to rave about them! I hope my experience was a "rarely happens" experience. I called last night to schedule a 5 AM pickup from my home to Logan International. They never showed. Never called. Never answered my calls. I even waited as long as physically possible to still (barely) make my flight. So, as it is now, I drive my own car to the airport and park in the normal lot, as I didn't even have time to make it to my gate if I were to park in Economy. I hate giving bad reviews...in fact, I don't think I've ever done it (not that I have left many reviews at all), but no call no show is one thing...but to then not even answer my calls or voicemail? I would have been better off staying at a hotel near the airport like I had originally considered...then at least I could have skipped the whole stress part. I needed an early morning (5am) ride to Logan, and searched yelp for a solution. Seeing that two former community managers rated this taxi service so highly, I decided to trust. And so glad I did. Not only was Al friendly and fast, he stuck to the $35 flat rate even though I live in Newton. I experienced two wonderful cab rides with Jeff last weekend -- one from Cambridge to Tufts University and the other from Cambridge to the airport. The service is dependable, the prices are reasonable and they accept credit cards, so who could ask for more? After reading all the reviews, I booked a cab to Logan. I was actually proud of myself for thinking to visit yelp before calling. However, all was for not. This was the worst experience I have ever had in a cab. The driver was a few minutes late for our 5:00am departure, which was a not a big deal. After the driver asked me which way I wanted to go, I told him 90 was fine. We live right near the pike, so should have been easy enough. However, instead of heading east, the driver headed WEST on the highway. After calling him out on it, he seemed confused and mumbled something. We drove to the Newton exit, at which point he almost ran a red light and slammed on the breaks when my boyfriend hollered "red light!" from the backseat. After successfully turning around (with much of the driving directed by us) we started to make our way in the right direction. When we were getting close to the exit, we let the driver know it was coming up. Apparently he didn't really hear us because he attempted to get off at the Fort Point exit. When we said no, he jerked the car back into the lane and we narrowly missed the wall. After much fret, we finally arrived at the airport. After the debacle we still ended up paying the full $40 for the cab ride which took about 30 minutes for what should have been a 10 minute drive. This seems to be an isolated situation, but definitely turned us off from ever using them again. read more

Making an appointment with this cab service made me realize how terrible all the other services in Boston have been! I thought I was guaranteed to get screwed over no matter which company I called, but Chill Out gave me phenomenal service and has definitely earned a returning customer. Not only did my driver arrive exactly when scheduled - not a minute early or a minute late - but he was pretty relaxed, and even made jokes during the drive (which were actually funny!). The car they send is a black unmarked sedan, flawlessly clean, and they keep the passenger seat pushed all the way up to give you plenty of leg room. The driver played NPR on medium-low volume, but he didn't talk on the phone at the same time, so I got to enjoy the radio and have a nice chat with my driver, which was a pleasant change from the usual cab service in Boston. The driver took me directly to my destination by the shortest/fastest route. There was no meter in the car, so he asked me what I usually pay when going from my start point to my destination. Having never made the trip by cab before, I said I didn't know - and he suggested a $10 flat fee. This felt like a huge bargain given the quality of the ride (I actually did feel 'chilled out' by the time I arrived at work), and I'd estimate that another cab company would have charged upward of $20 for the same trip (as I've done shorter rides with companies like Ambassador Brattle and Top Cab that cost $17-25). Gave him a 50% tip, which tbh, I would have done even had the price been higher/for a longer trip, and even though I usually can't afford to pay more than 15% tip on anything.
