James came out to our home and did an amazing job. He was kind and professional and explained absolutely everything to me. He did a thorough inspection of all parts of the system. He gave his honest opinions of what could be replaced and what the rough costs were for each component plus labor. He also explained what he thought was the best option to keep our current system running at it's best, which I chose to do. He re-gassed our unit and added a startup capacitor which seems to have done the trick! The outdoor unit kicks on easily, runs quiet and consistently now. And of course the AC blows ice cold now. Total Comfort Mechanical had impressed us a couple of years ago when they came out to diagnose our ailing 22 year old air conditioner compressor. They could have easily claimed that it was too old to repair and pressured us to replace the unit, but instead they identified a broken part and quickly replaced it for a reasonable price. This summer we decided to replace our entire HVAC system and also completely replace and straighten out our convoluted duct work. We had TCM do the job which they did very professionally for a very fair price. Wendell came out to spec the job and listened carefully to our concerns and our budget constraints and provided us with three different detailed quotes to choose from. Wonderful service. Hadn't had my HVAC systems (2 because my house has two zones) serviced in the 10 years since the house was built. (I'll be better about that in the future.) All was working OK, but I was concerned that it was more than time to have both the air conditioning and heating sub-systems looked at. The technician came as scheduled, completed all service in a timely fashion, and diagnosed and replaced a capacitor that would have failed very soon. My only issue is that it took about 6 weeks to get a routine preventive service appointment, but I imagine if I'd had an emergency they would have found a way to come sooner. read more

I just wanted to write a review to recognize James and Total Comfort Mechanical for their exceptional service and workmanship. I was having problems with my boiler where it was making unusual gurgling noises. James's expertise and attention to detail was clear when he was able to identify the underlying issues with the system. He was great at explaining the issues and what needed to be fixed to me. I appreciated that he took the time to answer all my questions. The system had degraded over time due to acidic antifreeze that was installed by the previous owners resulting in leaks in various valves. There was pretty extensive and systemic damage but James was able to overhaul the entire boiler in half a day. Now the system is running as good as new. I just had an entire house worth of ductless mini splits installed by Wendell and his team at Total Comfort Mechanical. Wendell and his office staff were extremely responsive and communicative, very professional, and got me scheduled for the project quickly. They even helped me with the Mass Save rebate process. Their price was reasonable and Wendell's recommendation on how to configure the entire system for my house was the best and most straightforward among the all the contractors I got estimates from. They started the project on the day they promised and finished it up by the end of the second day. The team that was at my house worked very hard, pulling an almost 12 hour day the first day. They were extremely clean and respectful of my house too. They came in, put on shoe covers, and covered all my floors and furniture with drop cloths and plastic sheeting. After they were done, they picked up all of their cloths and sheets, and did a thorough vacuum of my house leaving absolutely no trace they were there. Two days after they finished they came back out to do a final walkthrough retest the system, show me how to maintain it, and ensure I had no concerns or questions left outstanding. I would highly recommend Wendell and his entire team at Total Comfort for any heating or cooling needs. They just simply awesome. I gave him 1 star because after using total comfort from my go to HVAC contractor for 5 years and giving him work for 4 of my houses, he hit me with $14200 to replace a boiler then I thought was too much money. I called around and phone for people that would do it for $9500 or less, I got It done for $9100 save myself all the $5000!!! Total conflict does good Work but their prices are ridiculous! read more

Our Central AC was not working, the condenser was spinning for one of the floors outside but we did not have any cooling on the second floor. A Technician came to check out the problem. He starts replacing filters even on the first-floor ac while we repeatedly told him that the first-floor ac was working just fine. Then he replaced the capacitor on a second floor AC system, just to find out that ac still does not work. After that, he starts pushing us towards buying more R22 refrigerant without even mentioning that if a system is low on refrigerant then it is due to the refrigerant leak, and in a few months system will be depleted again and the ac will not be working again. Good that we refused to buy more R22 refrigerant, but even without buying R22 we left with 400 dollars charge from this company and not working AC system. Beware of this kind of ripoff from this company. read more

Based on all the good reviews, I had Total come out and give estimates for a mini split and central A/C. They weren't the cheapest or the most expensive, but I liked Wendell and felt I could trust him. So far the mini split has been installed and it is working great. Apparently it started working when they got there so they checked the system and told me nothing is wrong with it and did not charge me. We called for help with our centers air system and got an appointment within days (we called on a Friday and they did offer us a weekend appointment for a slightly higher fee but it wasn't urgent so we took a Monday appointment instead) The technician was on time, courteous and helped us to understand what caused our issue and how to prevent it from reoccurring. Less than 24 hours after a major snowstorm in which we got buried under 12.5 inches of snow, our furnace was no longer turning on, and there was no power going to the thermostat. Within a couple of hours of our initial call, their young service tech came over, figured out the problem was not inside the house but buried under the snow - a dripline had frozen. These guys did a great job in my home. They came to service my AC unit for the spring and did a thorough job. The service person, Paul, was knowledgeable and answered our questions. The "Comfort Club" is definitely worth it as THEY call YOU to schedule, and you get a discount on parts. My only complaint is that scheduling was a little dicey, and they took down wrong information so we didn't get a confirmation, but we were able to get that fixed when he came for the service. We've been relying on total comfort mechanical on couple occasions for our A/C and heating related issues for our house. And they are AWESOME. This team (from a person who's on the phone taking your call and arranging our appointment to the technician who's addressing our needs) was all top notch professionals. They are courteous and honest. And we're most impressed with their follow up calls to make sure that everything was addressed. We recently had a frozen pipe heating base board issue and it could not be resolved on day 1 of the visit but the technician advised us on the ways/locations to apply heat to thaw out the pipes. Then after a follow up call FROM TCM, Wendell came out and tried again and even let us borrow their heat gun for us to help ourselves (which he recommended as a economical option!!). Called for an estimate on some work that came up in our home inspection, figured I'd ask for a tuneup on the A/C while they were out. I stressed that the estimates were my priority. They scheduled me and I take a vacation day to be home. Day of they call and tell me they need to reschedule the tune up for weather. (Yes it rained heavily in the morning, but stopped and forecast does not call for rain rest of day).
