But if you're looking for a budget lunch option and you don' tmind the qwuality of food, this place is ok. A mom an d pop buffet, offers very few options compared to other buffets in the area but it is cheap. Saturday lunch was $3.99. Half of the dishes were mainly begeatbales. I cam elatye in the lunch shift, around 3pm, food overcooked uunder the heat lamp. Only two lines of food, one for desserts including fruits and desserts, one for hot entrees. My friend and I were driving through and we stumbled upon this place and decided to check it out. Price for a Sunday dinner after tax and tip was just under $20 per person. The variety of American Chinese food was great. I'll be honest there were some funny silly options too like weird sushi, weird pizza, and garlic bread. Highlights were the spicy shrimp, potstickers, and chow mein which has a mushroomy umami. Bathrooms were a bit questionable but fine. Lot of parking in the lot. Okay, so I have to say that I hesitated coming to this place for a while. I was hesitant because of how it looked from the outside! However, looks can be deceiving! This is my 4th time eating here and I have to say that they are pretty consistent in their food quality and consistent in the food flavors! I love love the chow main and orange chicken. The staff are very friendly and quick to great you and serve you. They always have a smile on their faces! The only recommendation I have is for them to switch menu up for dinner with more specialty dinner menu options. The lunch and dinner are the same except for one add dish. I came here with my family. There were eight of us: five adults, two babies, and one toddler. I came in beforehand to tell the host we were coming and asked if they could set something up. They were like, "Okay, whatever." When my family arrived, a lady had our utensils and everything ready to seat us. Two more waitresses came and started setting up a table. We were all sitting there, getting ready, when the guy hostess/cashier came and yelled at my family, telling us he wasn't able to do that. I was like, "Okay," and told the lady, "Yall choose to sit us." Then my grandpa tried to hand over money upfront so no one else would have to pay, and the guy with the glasses yelled at him again. He was such a nasty prick to my grandpa; I wanted to slap him. They tried intimidating me by staring me down. It was all just funny to me. They have a great establishment but horrible workers. It's funny how they were hurrying us out. We weren't done eating, and the check was already on the table. They cleared our table after 35 minutes of us sitting down. It was just funny. read more

When I'm too tired to cook or just want some classic fast food Chinese, this is the spot. I can feed the family and still have leftovers when we grab and go from this buffet. At one point we went here at least once or twice every month. Love it! Super adorable and great to eat while watching a movie at home. Soon loves the shrimp dishes and so do I. Husband loves the mussels. The building itself is outdated, but we're simple people who appreciate this comforting Chinese food. read more

Hunger is the best seasoning and China 1 Buffet has figured out the second best seasoning. I stop here once a year on my way home from backpacking, a rich reward for days of cold, repetitive meals at 10,000 feet up. Thoughts of China 1 fill the last days of every trip because they prepare delicious food. An example: string beans. Their sautéed garlic string beans are as good as I got when I worked near San Francisco's Chinatown. China 1 prepares long, crispy, savory beans--so long that you skewer them in the middle and fold them in half into your mouth. Two or at most 3 beans is a mouthful. Crunchy and with just the right amount of spice to let you taste how fresh the beans are. I could have made a meal of string beans, but the garlic shrimp and the orange chicken were too good to pass up. Arriving at the end of lunch on a Saturday, they'd run low on sushi. I figured it was my own fault for being late, so I took 8 pieces and left 4. When I returned for my next plate, there were 40 more pieces. I can't properly appraise the sushi because I'm a fan of pickled ginger and wasabi, so basic sushi tastes great to me. If you're looking for top sushi, you're probably going to spend more than $8.75 for all you can eat. Service was polite without being fussy. Dirty dishes were cleared quickly. Drinks refilled just as fast. They offer a wide variety, far more than I could sample in just a few visits. You're supposed to find something wrong, even something small, to show you're objective, but I can't think of anything wrong with this $8.75 buffet lunch ($10.75 dinner, all day Sunday). Even consistency: I've visited once a year for about 4 years and it's good every time. They cannot be profiting much with quality food at a low price, so I hope many others eat here the other 364 days a year I'm not there to support them. read more

We've visited The China Buffet on many occasions (for many years), and we always come back. When we visit Los Baños or are driving through, we like to stop at China Buffet, for a delicious, healthy meal. The bathrooms and seating is all very clean, the staff & cooks are all very pleasant and very professional. What do we like? Everything. We enjoy the soups (2 kinds), the veggies (incredible green beans cooked just right), the zucchini, cabbage, etc. and all the different rice and noodle dishes. The fish and meats are tasty, not too salty, and frequently filled so always very fresh. We are not looking for high-end cooking, just basic, down-to-earth good Chinese good, at a good price. For a Chinese buffet or American Chinese food in general the food is stellar. The vegetables are fresh and the meat is tender and moist the sauces and seasonings are absolutely on point. The service was friendly and attentive. I knocked off one star because the hot and sour soup left something to be desired but since I barely touched it one of the wait staff noticed and asked how I liked it. Although I didn't want to be rude I knew that being honest would help their business so I told them that I would prefer my soup a little more sour and he said he would let the chef know. I really appreciated that and I know they appreciated an honest critique. Additionally, my husband noticed the bathrooms were not very clean. Not exactly a deal breaker but certainly can be a bit of a turn off. All told, the price was right and the food was much better than most Chinese takeout or buffet food. Rating this restaurants as a buffet only (don't expect friendly service and luxurious decor), I would rather eat here than at any other Chinese restaurant in LB. They definitely have a variety of choices to choose from, and not every items is Chinese food (they serve pizza and fries too). Some of the items they have are chicken/beef broccoli, chow mein, friend rice, salt and pepper shrimp, orange chicken, fresh fruit, and even one type of dim sum. It resembles shu mai, but tastes more like a potsticker. They also have a variety of desserts to choose from like pudding, tapioca, icecream, macaroons, and other pastry items. Overall, the buffet area was neatly kept and they staff promptly clears your used plates. Although they do not have a lot of veggie entree items to choose from, they do have watermelon, cantaloupe and honey dew. Don't listen to the fools writing the bad reviews. I come to this buffet once a week. I have traveled to China and eaten Chinese food all over the West coast. It's buffet, so it's automatically not the greatest but being that it's a buffet, it's excellent. The chow mien is consistently good, the salted pepper prawns (w/ the heads on) are incredible, the ribs are the best ribs in Los Banos, the clams with cheese are good, the in-shell crabs surprised me with their freshness. The garlic green beans, their steamed and fried rice is consistently good. The staff is extremely kind, the food is good, the bathroom is questionable but it's a buffet. This place is only in business because it's the only buffet in town. If there comes ANY competition, this place will be gone in no time. The food is as bad as it gets for a buffet.
