Unfortunately cannot defend Sugoi Sushi anymore due to insane prices for meager portions. Not sugoi at all! Located off E Pacheco Blvd, in a dingy strip mall next to a vape store, Sugoi Sushi USED TO serve some really good sushi and was considered one of the best and only ones in town. Now it seems to only be the only one in town and desperately needs a competitor. My first couple of experiences, I would rave about it, and I would crave coming here, especially for their Fusion section (no-rice rolls were awesome!) After a couple of tries, I have started to notice a significant decrease in portion size, while the price has only increased. Please refer to my pictures to see how tragic the decline has become... My most recent experience was today, where the SO ordered take-out for me: - Chirashi bowl ($25) - 9 paper-thin strips of 'sashimi' of questionable quality plus 1 imitation crab stick sliced in half to count for 2 more 'sashimi' pieces. Rice had flavor, but texture was blocky and hard. Hard pass. - Alaska roll ($14) - dinky, not-fresh-looking, and fell apart upon picking it up After seeing my lunch today, I cannot justify returning here. read more

Food used to be amazing here with great portions but it seems being the only sushi spot in town has gotten to their heads and prices have gone up while portions have also gotten smaller. Food is great, but I can't support these greedy practices. Sushi roll came out differently than pictured and our server was onboard our roll came out completely different than pictured and described and even argued with the owners for us to get it sent back and refunded. We had a big party and they accommodated us very quickly. They had friendly and quick service. The owners were very kind. We ordered appetizers, sushi, saki, beer, bento boxes.... A little bit of everything. For being a sushi place in Los Banos California (probably not known for its sea food) it was really delicious. Everything was fresh and well prepared. The sushi rolls were a good size and packed with flavor. Shrimp tempura was cooked to perfection. Service was pretty good, they refilled drinks when necessary and checked in with us just the right amount of times. Was visiting a friend over the weekend and we stopped here after your previous appointment. We got seated pretty quick and ordered our food pretty quickly. Everything that we had was pretty good there was Even some dishes that I have not seen on other menus from other locations that I have visited including monkey brain I choose to just stick with someone little more in the familiar side and ordered the Diablo roll and Gyoza . I recently tried Sugoi Sushi for the first time, as I was only in the area for work and was unfamiliar with it. I was a little surprised that the place was empty since it was lunchtime. I was going to get my food to go but because there were plenty of tables I decided to dine in. Staff was very nice and friendly. The menu was a bit overwhelming. Very big menu with lots of choices. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have any donburi bowls on the menu, as I was in the mood for that rather than a bento box, but I was very excited and impressed about all the sushi choices. I decided to get the spicy tuna roll and the Philly tempura roll. Both were very good and were big in size. I also got fried gyoza which was cooked to perfection. Not over-fried and was flavorful. The only complaint I have is the Firecracker chicken. The flavor was great, but some of the pieces I felt like I was eating the breading and hardly any chicken. Overall, it was a good experience. Food was delicious, staff was very friendly. I'll definitely go back another time when I'm in the area. Prices are a little steep, but for good sushi, I don't mind so much, and the portion sizes were good compared to other sushi restaurants I've been to. read more

Today I had a horrible experience at Sugoi Sushi, me and my children went to have dinner what we thought would be nice time turned very disappointing. We were the first customers to arrived after us 4 other parties arrived, everyone got service before us. I felt discriminated because of the color of my brown skin! For Los Banos, this is really good. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the inside is nice. We ordered: Bulgolgi Beef with Sashimi Katsu Chicken Gyoza Mild Ramen The service was really friendly and speedy. My daughter (5yo) said it was the best restaurant she ever ate at. Let's just say she loved the gyoza and miso soup. I really enjoyed the Katsu chicken and the katsu sauce was really good. My 2 other kiddos loved their ramen, and the flavor was pretty good. Not the best ramen I ever had, but it was good. We would totally order it again. If ever passing through again, I would totally stop again. read more

Only giving one star to be able to post this, not deserving of any stars today. Placed an order for pickup for my family like I do 1-2 times per month. I ordered the Sugoi Roll as usual, got it home and with the first bite you could tell it was absolutely RANCID. I called to see what could be done but unless I drove the item back across town to give to them, there was nothing they could do. I'm sorry but I threw up the piece of sushi back into the container with all the other pieces. So if they were expecting me to bring my vomit in a container back just to give me a refund, that's absolutely disgusting! Unfortunately they just lost a loyal customer. read more

My husband and I are hesitant to do a review after our first meal at any restaurant. However our first was the same as our fifth visit, Outstanding! Not only was the food, but service as well. The only area I would fault them was housekeeping. The tables were not consistently clean. Hopefully they read my review so they can correct the cleanliness issue. Never going here again after what we went through. So we came here in Valentine's Day. Busy, yes we know. So we were patient. We completely understood. It would take some time to get a table. We ordered, food took a really long time but I get its a busy day. The waitress hardly came to check on us but no biggie. Again I understand they were busy. Pretty much the waitress didn't really wait out table. Whatever. We ate our food- took our time as we enjoyed the rolls and conversation. We waited for the bill - but the waitress was taking a really really long time to bring it - she never brought it. So we decided to get up and pay at the register. The girl is ringing us up - I was about to pay (while my hubby stayed at the table). I was about to pay when I noticed we were being charged for 5 rolls when we only ate 4. I was confused because I told the register person I think we've been charged wrong because we only got served and ate 4 rolls. She wasn't sure what to say - that's when our waitress comes up and tells me "that's what you ordered" I was confused and told her "are you sure because I we only ate 4 rolls". That's when my husband comes up to me to tells me that he did order that roll however, they just brought it out. I told them both im sorry but you're just bringing the roll out now? I told them that it's okay we no longer want it , they took way way too long that we are done eating and out the door - to please remove it since they took so long to even bring it out. The waitress with a snarky nasty attitude stated we had to pay because we ordered it. I told her, I understood we ordered it but either a. She forgot to put in the order b. The cooks forgot to make it. Someone dropped the ball - but they took so long we even forgot we ordered it. It took them so long to bring it out to the table. She insisted we took it home and that we had to pay for it. (With a very sarcastic snarky attitude). I explained that I ordered that roll to eat here not to take home (it was tempura so it would have gotten soggy). I wouldn't have had a problem but the service was horrible and their attitude was way out of line. If they would have been apologetic or the waitress would had mentioned it letting us know it's still being made it would have been different. I asked to speak with a manager because I thought it was way out of line for them to speak to me the way they did after having so much patience - and having to pay for their mistake. The manager comes out already with her raised voice from the back "I'm not taking it off your bill - you'll have to pay". I explained, we waited a long long time for the food to come out (approx. 1 hour) We waited with no complaint. Then we ate our food (4 rolls - we took our time eating) about another hour. We waited and waited for the waitress to come back to get us some more water- she wouldn't come until we finally we waved her down. Then we finished our food and waited about 25 minutes for the bill that never came. Within all that time the 5th roll never came out - we also never got an update from the waitress regarding the roll like "hey guys sorry but it will be right out" nothing! It took so long that we even forgot we had ordered it. Within all that time , that roll never came out and now that we are leaving you bring it out and now are forcing us to pay for your mistake? Ridiculous! What happened to this place? When we first moved here - we enjoyed it. Now you're lucky to get good service and if they mess up your order - you're forced to pay. Their attitudes are so horrible - after being a customer for years. Taking family there (when they visit out of town) spending usually an average of $100 each time we come here, taking friends here, we will no longer be coming here or be bringing friends or family. We will be taking out business elsewhere. I will drive to San Jose for sushi. They fought over 1 $15 sushi roll? Ridiculous! Owners really need to change this rule especially when you hire inadequate people. We were by the door - and we can hear our waitress not only be rude to us but she was rude to others. She just kept pissing people off - people walked out the door. The girl at the register wasn't any better. !!!!!This place takes advantage of Los Banos residents and their limited choices.
