The sweet and sour pork had no veggies, the chowmien I ordered wasn't skinny noodles and drowning in cornstarch slurry no taste had big pieces of cabbage laid on top. So the food was quite tasty. I have to say the service lacked the care to details and attention I would expect of a sit down meal. My suggestion is take out and skip the dining experience. I had to ask multiple times for things I needed to package my food to take home. It's a luxury for many of us to eat out since Covid and I like to enjoy the experience. I really do love this place -- was my go to spot but they seriously need to improve their takeout process. Every time I order to‑go, I have to double‑check everything because something is always missing. Last week I sent my daughter in to pick up our order, and since she didn't double‑check, we got back to the car and realized they forgot the napkins and the fork. We weren't even going home our plan was to eat on the go ...so it was extra frustrating. I called, and the lady told me that we're supposed to ask for utensils and napkins now. Honestly, that makes no sense. How do you assume someone ordering takeout is going to eat without utensils? She said it's "the law," which made me laugh because I've never heard of a law that stops restaurants from putting a fork in a to‑go bag. If some people don't need them, fine but at least ask, or make it clear. Don't just leave customers without basic things they need to eat their food. In a pinch..and we don't want Panda and it's a Wednesday and Teriyaki House is closed we came here. I don't know what it is. I really want to like the food because chinese food in LB is slim pick-ins but.... Customer service is nice enough. The lunch options are great and are decent for their price points, it's an opportunity to get a little bit of everything. The ingredients seem fresh. The veggies in the kung pao were vibrant in color and had a good bite to them, like I said there was just something missing and I can't pin point it. Love it they make chow mein three different ways. They have chow mein with crunchy noodles, which is more of a corn starchy sauce with a lot of celery and bean sprouts which is the way the old chop Suey was done back in the 60s and 70s they have pan fried, which has the noodles with a little bit of beans sprouts then they just have the regular chow mein but everything they make is delicious. I don't even live in Los Banos but every time I go by I pick some up. read more

I was on a National Parks tour throughout the state of California and had just completed 3 wonderful days exploring Sequoia and King's Canyon and was venturing over to Pinnacles for the following day. I was spending the night here in this random roadside town of Los Banos. Having arrived in the latter part of the evening and hungry for dinner....I was craving comfort type food after all the hiking and running around I had done the prior few days. As I was driving, I stumbled upon China Garden. I thought this would be a good place to grab some hot soup and Chinese food. Nothing too heavy, yet filling enough to end my day and get me ready for more excursions and rock climbing the next day at Pinnacles. I arrived about 8pm back in June over the summer time. From the outside, the restaurant appeared sort of mediocre looking, very plain and isolated from all around, yet it had a few cars parked in the lot that convinced me this place had been frequented enough to warrant giving it a try. On the inside, there were plenty of tables, chairs and booths for dining in. The restaurant was clean looking and the atmosphere seemed homely. I felt better and my fears were calmed about dining here from the appearance on the interior. (Reason I'm saying this is because Los Banos exuded a dim, quick-stop type of town without much going on at night and I questioned whether Chinese food would be the best option to select.) The menu had plenty of varieties of Combination and Family Dinners. And they were fantastic values ranging in the prices of $8.99 - $10.99 for full course meals. You couldn't go wrong with any option. I chose Combination Dinner #3..... It included Soup of the Day, Fried Chick Wings, BBQ Pork Fried Rice, Chicken Chow Mein and Chicken w. Broccoli - all for $8.99. Wow....yes what can I say....it was A LOT OF FOOD!!!! And included with all this was hot tea....which I appreciated as I was yearning for some simple, hot broth and fresh cooking. The soup came out immediately after I ordered it - a small cup of egg drop soup.....a nice starter. Right afterwards, my entire meal arrived - just a HUGE PLATE OF FOOD! There was enough to feed at least 2 people. The chicken and broccoli had a flavorful brown sauce on it and I liked the chicken chow mein as well. The fried rice was pretty standard for any Chinese restaurant. The chicken wings though....were a little too breaded and I didn't care for them. Although I ate as much as I could and had plenty leftover, since I was staying at an arbitrary motel down the road without a mini-fridge, I opted not to take the food with me. Still, overall.....I was fulfilled from my dining experience here. Everything was satisfactory enough.....pretty much this is your typical, generic Chinese food type of restaurant. For just passing through town, I'd recommend if you're craving Chinese cuisine.....China Garden is worthwhile. And especially for the value....as affordably cheap as the prices, the portion sizes were quite enormous. read more

Whomever answers the phone to take orders seems very agitated to do her job. I've also never seen a restaurant who doesn't allow customers to order their food they way they choose too being they are paying for it. It's ridiculous that you cannot order extra chicken on the chicken salad anymore and also ridiculous suddenly you can't get the rice noodles on the side. Make that make sense you guys definitely need to step up your customer service game and allow customers to order what they are paying for that's bad for business. We need Ming's back!! read more

I came here for lunch on Father's Day. I was with my whole family, so we were a big group. When we came in, the hostess was surprised there was so many of us. I'm guessing they don't get too many large groups coming in to eat. They had us sit in the back since we were such a large group. There was 15 of us. Our waitress seemed pretty occupied with other customers. It wasn't a packed place and she wasn't the only waitress there. Their menu selections are what you expect from any Chinese restaurant and their prices were reasonable. We made our order and once we got them, we were surprised and disappointed. The portions are literally enough for only 1 or 2 people. We had to order extras for some dishes because they were so small. The quantity didn't justify the price unfortunately. The flavors were on point so that's a plus. This place is good for a date night or dining solo. I wouldn't recommend it for large groups. read more

This place should be closed. Dinner plates did not include everything ordered and when requested the missing items the waitress was rude and said she needed the plates back to take to the chefs. She then started asking if we wanted a box when dinner plate wasnt even served correctly. The white rice was all over the plate when brought back and still no other items included in the dinner #2. Friends complained of their dinner as well. This place before the Covid closure was great and now that its reopen its digusting and service is horrible.
