I found China Buffet online, and while the reviews were mixed about the food and service, we decided to give it a chance--and we were not disappointed! It's a smaller buffet, which I think actually works in its favor because the quality of the food was excellent. Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and delicious. There was truly great flavor in every dish. They even had pizza and fries for the kids, which was a nice bonus. The price was just right, and the service was welcoming and attentive as well. My grandfather, grandmother & I had a great experience. We went around 3pm on a Sunday & there was a nice amount of people so it wasn't empty nor full. It was calm. My grandfather usually complains from home cooked to restaurants. He was very satisfied with the selections. They had quite a bit of seafood selections including crab legs & squid. My grandmother doesn't usually eat much but she ended up with three plates. I'm not much into seafood but there were plenty of selections of the chicken (no fried) pizza and fries. We went in on a friday between 3-4. We are 2 adults with water and ended up paying $40.23. The food was hot and stocked up well. While we were there it was constantly being tended too with restocking and cleaning. We didn't stay long, so we paid. On the RECEIPT, it clearly stated under the price for 2 people, "TIP - $4(and some change cant remember)" so we said cool no worry on tipping its there already. Waiter comes to grab it after we sign, might I add very hesitantly. As we finish up, he comes back and POINTS to the line "this is where tip is supposed to be, you put the tip here!" This is very unprofessional and a big NO NO in my book. So I had to explain what I written above, it said it included the tip, he proceeds to say "no thats not a tip." Either way I explained NO and $0 means $0. I tip usually but it's a slow day at a buffet seriously. We barely saw him the whole time we were there! I was invited here to this establishment. I first noticed, everone of COLOR is seated to the left (lower dinning area). The whites are ALL seated to the right (upper dinning area). I though segregation ended about 50 years ago. This establishment did not get the memo. And it's the manager who is seating people. He thinks nobody notices the low-key prejudice. We arrived approximately 15 minutes prior to switching to dinner, apparently there is a price change, which is understandable and not a problem. The problem is when I was approached by 2 waiters telling me lunch is over. I asked, are you asking me to leave? She said, no. Less that 2 minutes later the 2nd waiter comes over and says the same thing. I asked are you asking me to leave? She said, I could not get another food. This is your racist establishment and I will NEVER step into again and I don't care who invites me. I support, every word that was written. You make a huge deal about Lunch/Dinner. You should have a cutoff time for lunch and don't let anyone in until dinner switch is complete. But do not disturb my peace with the foolishness. read more

I experienced a rude worker who was bringing food out to the buffet. I was getting myself some soup and he barged right in my way so I had move and he just gave me a nasty look. I also experienced a rude waitress that was not my own. I took some napkins off from a table next to mine and she came up to my table and fussed at me and took the napkins away. This restaurant is the only china buffet I'll eat at but I actually enjoy the food. My problem is they never know what they want to charge for the babies. The first few times I came here the babies were free. One day I went back they asked how old my toddler was and I told them two (she was two at the time back in February). They charged her 3.99 because of her height. They said she looked 3...both of her parents are tall. I decided to go back because I was craving the food and they charged 8.99 for 3-5 years old. We were just trying to enjoy our meal, but the way she spoke to us and treated us made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. I'm not understanding the bad reviews - we have been coming here for years and it is the best Chinese buffet in the entire Richmond area, in my opinion. There is not a huge selection, only one main buffet in the center of the restaurant with fruit and desserts off to the side, but everything they do serve is delicious. The restaurant is clean and spacious and the food stays hot and replenished frequently. Staff is not overly friendly but they are efficient and attentive. I don't go out to a buffet for crab legs, especially now with so many options in the area, so the lack of crab legs and the additional cost are not a factor. This is a place I visit maybe twice a year or so, when I'm in the area and I'd say that has been for maybe 15 years or so. With that said I think I can provide a review that is back up with history, not just a snapshot of 1 visit. With all that I'd say this is a solid 3.5 restaurant. First the food: it's always been decent. Of course this is not a Benihana and I hope a future customer isn't expecting that. But everything appears fresh and hot. I rarely seen a bin empty for too long - even on crab legs evenings. As for service: the servers keep picking up my used plates and keep my tea glass full. As for the location: I've seen several recent upgrades, such as the carpeted areas have been removed and replace with hard flooring. I'm sure this helps with cleanliness. I would like to mention and this is zero fault of the establishment. However, this place can draw a less than nice folks as customers. I've seen a few times where other nasty customers have acted like trash or have been an issue. Again this a not the establishments fault and I'm not exactly sure how they could curtail this. My suggestion for you would be if possible, go on a weekday lunchtime when there aren't that many customers and I've really never seen any challenges during this time of day. The challenges that I have seen is when the location gets fairly full on a Friday evening or Saturday. So yes I do recommend, but heed my warning. read more

We come here pretty often since it is close to us. The service is always great, no matter the time or day we have been in here. Tonight, there was a lady customer yelling at the server for absolutely no reason other than her own, the staff handled her very professional and got her out of here quickly so that we could all go back to dinner normally. Our server was Chinese but also spoke Spanish, which was very cool as she was able to help the family beside us who only spoke Spanish. Booked a last minute reservation (4 days ago) for 30 people as that was the number of my part at first. A day or two before they called to confirm I only had 15 that confirmed their rsvp. I spoke with them earlier in the day when they called (they had put my reservation for the wrong day and wanted to confirm I was still coming) I stated the same. 4pm came I was talking to the larger room area by one of the male servers greeted very nicely, told us the room was ours and I let it be known again only 15 confirmed their reservations and had a few people running late. We were assigned a female server that was very rude and nasty towards us did not want to serve us our drinks or silverware then placed 2 other families in our room which I told her was fine with me but she yelled in my face 3 times about it not being 30 people. (3 of us arrived at 4 together 5 more came 20-30 minutes later so for an hr we had a total of 8 (the other 7 were running behind about 1hr-1/2hrs be of work). She served the Caucasian family she sat after us as well as the Asian family and was disrespectful and yelling when it came to serving us (the African American family) I asked the older gentleman that was a manager to change our server because of the disrespectfulness of this one employee. He did. The new waiter was so nice, attentive, even played with my daughter. The other waiter continued serving the other families and making snarky comments to my guests. We only stayed an 1 1/2 hrs because of this one waiter as we were leaving she made it seem as if we weren't going to pay and come to rush us (she left one of my guests in the middle of payment and left my guests personal card out to do so) as we are packing up, for the one person left to pay, as she was helping pack up with my toddler and my other guest with a WALKER). The nice waiter we were assigned we all put together to give her a big tip and gave her her cash in her hand personally which she thanked us sooo many times for. Though at the register the nasty waiter over charged everyone by $3 adding a tip for herself on EACH TRANSACTION and then stated "oh I added a tip I didn't know you tipped her." When I asked for the other manager I was told he want there anymore she was the manager. When we left the 5 we were still waiting on met us I apologized to them letting know we left early because of treatment and just continued at our residence because of how bad the service was to our kind of people by one person. (She had even argued with multiple pp in my party bc they discussed tipping the nice server directly be it the nasty waiters poor service they didn't want her have to split her tip) Two people did run into an emergency so instead of 15 essentially they would've had 13 had we been treated correctly n been able to stay for them. And no they weren't closing soon we left 5 1/2 hrs before they closed. It was a highlyyyyy disappointing experience. But I do appreciate the second waiter we had for HER excellent service. We offered her cake and she apologized on behalf of the other server s000.00 many times. Most of my party was just tired of dealing with the nasty woman so they didn't try to get the tip back from her they just let her keep the $3 tip she didn't deserve (only one person took it back and added it to the nice servers tip) so she received a tip of $21 for poor service and disrespect. No they do not automatically charge for a tip. I'd suggest if you are of a more ethnic background DO NOT come here. Nothing was done about our service. Desserts are clearly separated away from the entrees and ice cream comes in individual packages as opposed to a dirty soft serve machine. Food was great however this people running the place are not family friendly. A family with 4 children one of them was under 2 I believe. They were trying to enjoy their meal. The host came and said someone was upset because their baby screamed 2 maybe 3 times during the meal. And yes I understand that can be annoying its a baby. And she wasn't constantly screaming she was being a child! Well they made the family extremely uncomfortable and they ended up stopping the children from eating and left. The family was only at the location for less then 20 minutes. The fact that they were made to feel unwelcome because their child was being a child is unbelievable. I didn't know what to expect, but now I'm glad that my friends and I decided to give this place a shot. With less than $10, you can experience this delicious-ness for lunch on a Sunday. I'm not sure what the prices are on different days or whether it's lunch or dinner. Our group of sat at a booth in the far corner. It was a busy day, and there were lots of people arriving to eat after church....at least they were dressed for such an occasion. My personal favorite items are the cream cheese wantons, general taos chicken, hibachi chicken, and the oyster sauce clams. Other great items are the pot stickers, fried chicken, and stirfrys. Quite impressed with the selection and tastiness of all the food. I was surprised how quiet it was inside even with all the large parties. Definitely a plus when it's not too loud. I was a bit turned off when it came time handling the bill. Our bills were split and we each charged it on our debit cards. The server who handled our payments came to the table to collect the signed merchant receipts, only to give us dirty looks and seemed frustrated. I definitely made sure to leave a tip and I'm always overly generous, but at the same time it's called a "TIP" for a reason. If it were required, then please just charge it on the bill. The ONLY reason I gave a 2 star review is the sushi was pretty good. The teriyaki chicken was absolutely Unfit for human consumption and was more like teriyaki flavored shoe leather or jerky. Every item on the Buffay that could have been overcooked was done so with gusto! Save your money and go anywhere else that serves this type of food. The Saturday evening I went a couple off weeks ago, most of the items been on the buffet since Colonel Sanders was a private. I decided to go to China Buffet this evening for an early dinner. Well, the waitress who listed her name as Boss was rude. I observed her go to the table of those who arrived after I did and ask them their drink of choice and give them silverware. Well she ignored me for about 10 minutes and finally she came over and asked me how many and I said one so she walked away and served others, and finally she came back and asked me what did I want to drink and I said bottle water. When she finally got around to bringing me the water she slammed it down on the table and walked away. I wanted some sushi and as I was getting that I observed someone who worked their picking up the food that had fallen with her bare hands and putting it back in the food containers ... I grew up going to this restaurant any time my family would visit the area. We stopped by today and I'd say my meal was pretty filling. The staff was very attentive and they stayed on top of removing used plates from our table. They offered a good selection of food, the basics you would expect to see on a Chinese buffet. All of the meat dishes were flavorful however I was not a fan of the fried rice or lo mein. Overall it's a restaurant you should try atleast one time. read more

Dec 3', 2020. This was the worse decision we could have made. The Won Ton soup noodles were soggy, sitting in the soup for a long time, perhaps days. The bacon wrapped shrimp were overcooked and barely warm, although the little dab of bacon was tasty. The egg foo yung was totally hard except the very center. My friend ate totally different dishes. Her basic complaints were cold totally white French fries and hard, rocky fried biscuits. Our waitress never came back after delivering our drinks except bring us the bill and fortune cookie. It would take me all day to list all the problems. When I asked to see the manager she came reluctantly. She let us know that it made no difference to her. She stated if we wanted good food that we should go to a different kind of restaurant, not a buffet. How about a Different Buffet?
