We just moved to the area so we decided to grab some takeout while we are unpacking since this is the closest restaurant to our house. I don't see why this place doesn't have more reviews because it is definitely a hidden gem. We ordered a large chicken curry with onions, a large honey chicken, and two combination plates that come with an eggroll and chicken fried rice. One was pork lo mein and one with beef and broccoli. The curry chicken was awesome. It was just a touch spicy and the curry sauce was very light. It tasted like curry mixed with something light and fragrant. Very delicious. The lo mein was very tasty, exactly what I would expect lo mein to taste like, although their roast pork tastes more like delicious BBQ pork (the kind of red pork we like so much in Chinese food) which was a very pleasant surprise. The beef and broccoli was good, the sauce and beef was delicious and the broccoli a tad undercooked like I also expect beef and broccoli to taste like. But the sauce was very good. The real winner with this was the honey chicken. It was soooooooo good. Yummy tempura chicken with delicious honey. Very good. We all loved it and will definitely be ordering it a lot. read more

Came for lunch and wanted to try a new Chinese place. Looking over the menu, I asked if they had a specials with two meats and she said not, but didn't offer any other things. The didn't offer rice and noodles either. We ended up ordering the bourbon chicken which had a flavor of teriyaki chicken, but less flavorful. The sauce helped to make the rice taste better. The honey chicken was dry and had no extra sauce. The sesame chicken too was ok in flavor but did have extra sauce so it helped to flavor the chicken fried rice that it came with. The chicken chow mein was definitely not what we were expecting and it too lacked flavor. The meals did come with an egg roll which had more of the breading that filling. I will say though for any order $35 you get a free 2 liter of soda. Not what we had expected. read more

What can I say, this was only my second patronizing the Excel Chinese Restaurant, but, the friendly greeting, the service, and, the food "ALL" get five Stars from me. I tried this place a few years ago and didn't love it, but decided to try again after reading all of the good reviews from the last year+. I think I like it less now than I did the first time. This time around, we ordered egg rolls, shrimp toast, chow mei fun, wonton soup, chicken noodle soup, moo goo gai pan, crab rangoon, wings and sesame chicken. The shrimp toast was black, totally burnt on one side of each piece. Who sends food out like that? Even the burnt taste wasn't enough to cover up the extreme fishy flavor. The whole order went in the trash. The wonton soup tasted sour and had a bunch of sediment in the broth that looked like burnt scrapings from a frying pan and pieces of tea debris. Also went in the trash. The chow mei fun was murky ... I don't know what other word to use. It just looked and tasted unclean. The dude ate a small portion of it before he started getting sketched out. The rest of it joined the others in the trash. Crab rangoon is what you typically expect. No complaints on fried dough filled with cream cheese. (there's definitely no crab involved though) Egg rolls are thick and fried perfectly. Definitely the best part of the meal, aside from the fortune cookies. Not even kidding. My partner said the sesame chicken was fine. Not his favorite, but he ate it all. That and the moo goo gai pan came with fried rice, which we both really enjoyed. The moo goo gai pan itself was a little iffy. I liked it at first, but halfway through, I found this weird black, wiry thing in the sauce. It looked like a curly hair (eeeeek!!!), but it felt much harder than a hair. Whatever it was, it freaked me out enough to stop eating. I felt pretty gross after that. Chicken wings were a bit feathery, but we've found that to be typical at casual Chinese takeout places. They were fried exactly the way we like them - nice & crispy. Not bad, especially in comparison to the rest of the meal. The noodle soup was basic, but pretty good. It also had a cloud of weird, flaky sediment, but I filtered it out to salvage SOMETHING from our order. I couldn't bear to throw one more thing out. We've owned a home in the area for 11+ years and we're still looking for a CLEAN, cheap Chinese restaurant. This is definitely not it. read more

I'm not really a Chinese food person but I decided to try this and hoped for a positive conviction, which I got. They cook to order and their donuts is really lovely. Their fried chicken is really appetizing and week done. They should however try to tell their delivery team to follow instructions on the delivery. However, despite that flaw, I will order Chinese again. Thanks for changing my perception about Chinese food. Thanks. I will definitely recommend this. read more

The beef and broccoli tasted like it had been sitting on a burner for hours. Sauce was thick (gooey almost) and fried rice was lackluster. The shrimp roll was gummy and lacking in shrimp. I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

The best Chinese food in the area. I had been looking for a half way decent Chinese place after getting stationed at Fort Lee and had no luck for a few months. Delicious. First visit here on recommendation of a coworker of my son. Food was fresh and cooked just right-- veggies were crisp but tender and meat was flavorful and not overcooked or gristly (big pet peeve for me)! I decided to try this place out, and was pleased with my decision. I ordered the the General Tso's Chicken and Shrimp Egg Foo Young. The chicken was crisp, the sauce was good, and the fried rice it came with was flavorful. The Egg Foo Young was really good as well, I just wish the gravy was a little thicker. I'm use to the gravy on Egg Foo Young being thicker. I will being going back when I need my Chinese food fix. read more

This was my first time ordering from here. I ordered the vegetable lo mein, the vegetable fried rice, and the spring rolls. The main dishes were simply okay. I lucked out in discovering one Chinese restaurant that is on my ride into the area. In comparison, these dishes at the other restaurant seemed more flavorful, lighter, and fresher. The spring rolls were disappointing. I have purchased frozen spring rolls (imported) and these had that same heavy preservative taste. Of course, even one of my favorite Chinese restaurants from another VA area have switched from a fresher, crispier and lighter spring roll to this same or similar brand. Ordered the special combination plate of General Tso's Chicken with chicken fried rice and an egg roll. Also ordered a small container of hot and sour soup. First off, everything tastes great. The food is truly delicious. The sauce on the General Tso's is sweet with a little bit of heat. The breading on the chicken isn't too thick and the chicken was nice and tender. The hot and sour soup was piping hot with heat and spice. A perfect blend of hot and sour. I can't speak for the egg roll because my son ate it but he did say it was good. But, and this is not a had thing, the portion size is huge! I didn't even get halfway through the chicken & rice and I was full. And I was hungry when I started eating! This is a favorite lunch spot for me. Everything is great. I love the curry chicken, Singapore noodles (Chow mei fun) and the hot and sour soup is the best in the area. The sweet tea is also a must.
