Like my hubby says I get grumpy if I don't eat my vegetables. Being on the road, it's very difficult to eat healthy and I really just wanted a huge bowl of vegs. This is the only Chinese restaurant in this town and despite the negative reviews, I figured they can't screw up too much on vegs. I checked out their menu and thought the prices were incredibly cheap. Their lunch specials were only $5.50 and the lunch I buffet was only $6.89! I said to hubby how they can even afford to stay in business with such low prices. I would find out later. I can't really comment on the food too much as I just ate a lot of vegs but the food looked just ok. I also got a small bowl of sweet and sour soup and I can't even describe the taste as it was so tasteless. I was glad I just ate vegs. It is a cheap Chinese buffet so I wasn't expecting much anyway. Hubby said nothing really had much taste and commented how they could screw up the chicken wings as it did not even taste like chicken. We went around 1:30pm and saw a huge bus parked outside so the restaurant was pretty packed and they were trying to keep up with the demand. The surprise came when we got our check. We were charged $12 each instead of $6.89. I asked the cashier why she wasn't charging what was listed on the menu and she kept saying repeatedly wrong price sorry. The food was terrible.No flavor at all.The sweet and sour sauce was brown and watery not thick and red like usual.. All the fluid was bland and look like it had been there for hours. Wasn't fresh wasn't filled up? Please avoid this. Take the extra 30 minutes to Amarillo. read more

I tried the fried rice, it was so bland, tasted like instant rice from package, tried the beef with pepper and spicy sweet chicken, beef wasn't tasty, chicken was old and cold, i didn't finish the first plate and walked out, 19 dollars for crappy food not worth, the waitress was in a bad mood, not a very good friendly service. read more

I haven't been here for 13 years. I couldn't quite remember why it'd left a bad taste in my mouth I just remembered we had decided we wouldn't be back. (Pun intended) Today with fresh expectations I took my son back for a second try. Knowing I was going to leave a review I started out but taking a picture of the menu. The service was quietly polite. I'm not sure she ever said anything. Since it's a buffet I don't think they expected me to order. Sitting there wondering what to do was an awkward experience. Once the waitress arrived with our water I pointed to L11, the Hunan Chicken on the lunch menu. My son opted for the buffet. He wasn't super impressed but he's 16 and a lil picky, he can write his own review. After a reasonable wait my order was silently dropped off by someone from the kitchen. It was a large portion with plenty of fresh veggies. Very tasty, not spicy. The plate was a bit small for the amount of food which made it challenging to eat. A good problem. The fried rice and egg roll were absent. I wasn't sure if they were on their way or if they'd been forgotten and I didn't know who to ask. About 5 minutes later the cup of rice showed up. It hadn't been fried. It looked like they mixed up the rice and veggies in preparation to fry and skipped the last step. It was fine, the quality of the rest of the meal made up for the rice. Besides, I needed to save room for my eggroll. The egg roll never arrived. Oh well, there was plenty on my plate so I still wasn't too disappointed. The waitress did come back once to refill my son's water and clear his plate. At the end of our meal we were brought a hand written ticket and fortune cookies. The ticket said $18. Hmmm I quickly did the math. $5.50 + 6.89 +8.25%tax is $13 something. Right? We went up to register. The man , without greeting held out hand for money. I asked how much, he said $18. I asked if he could help me understand. Maybe we had the wrong ticket. I told him what we had. He said, yes that's $18. There is a paper menu right where you pay. Thinking maybe it's the language barrier I point to what I ordered and say, I had the Hunan chicken. He says. "Those menus are wrong" then he scratched out the price. "Oh, I understand. Do you have corrected menus?" "Yes, here." Then he shows me another menu with the same prices. Then he scratched out the price and wrote a new one in and said "all our menus are wrong" I told him if they're wrong he should probably throw them away and stop handing them to customers. He took them off the counter. Then I just paid the $18 plus tip. It was in that moment I remembered why we hadn't been in 13 years. This same thing had happened then. Except it was for a family of 5 and it hurt a lot more back then. The thing is, I get why they raised the prices. $8 is a reasonable price for what I recieved. Well, if I'd actually recieved it. I never got that egg roll. I don't like to be deceived. Maybe it's coincidence that it happened twice 13 years apart. Probably not. It's not okay to continue handing out menus with the wrong prices printed. It's misleading. I really wanted to like this place. read more

From the outside it looks like it should be closed down, in the foyer the water for the "fish pond" (no fish) is slimy, dirty, littered with many papers from the fortune cookies. the food was hot, the only thing good about it, but was over cooked, many were fried so long that it was not chewable. The biggest problem I had was the owner/host would stand and glare at the whole dining area while people were eating it was very unsettling. read more

The management seems to work hard. The food in the buffet is kept relatively fresh, and there are plenty of choices. But at the end of the day, it's an inexpensive family restaurant in a small town on the Texas plains. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but that's the category you're dealing with. The food is nothing exciting. Lots of chicken and (small, frozen) shrimp, to keep the prices down. Lots of fried stuff and sweet sauces because people like fried stuff and sweet sauces. Oddly, I didn't find white rice--only fried rice, but it was pretty much white rice with peas. The egg rolls were tough, chewy. I'd say they deliver pretty much exactly what you would expect of a Chinese buffet in Dumas, Texas. Wait--this was unexpected: some sort of salad-ish bar with big bowls of pudding. Or maybe it was a dessert bar. It had some turnovers and things, I think. Anyway, I was unfamiliar with the concept. Well let's start with positives, the fried rice, Mongolian pork, beef with peppers, and general chicken were all hot fresh and very tasty. The chicken on a stick, hot and sour soup, salt and pepper shrimp were excellent. The chicken is very large and the salt and pepper shrimp were peeled just tail on so you could eat a zillion, I usually find then in the shell for some reason. The ice cream freezer has six flavor all good. Also they have sriracha which is a huge plus. The bad, I didn't try the lo mein . So I'll leave it as neutral. Drawbacks are as follows: limited selection compared to big cities; the egg rolls were not crispy nor particular tasty; the staff speaks almost no English so if you need something you don't see it would be hard to get it. Wow! What a suprise for a small town in Texas. Stopped here for a quick lunch to go. The exterior looked a little schetchy, but the inside was very clean, the buffet looked nice and they have a large American Chinese menu. Lunch specials also. I got General Tso's Chicken off the menu which was very good. They have a plaque that says they are a top 100 Chinese Food Restaurant and I believe. I guess I have a new lunch stop when I travel through Dumas. read more

All you can eat or order to go. The honey chicken in the all you can eat is great. There is an offering of tasty dishes like broccoli and chicken, Mongolian pork and cream cheese wontons. There is even a section for Mercian foods like chicken fingers and rolls. The best part is the ice cream in the back. Self serve cookies and cream is my favorite. Staff are very sweet. read more

We decide to try this place and when I went to get rice out of the steamed white rice cooker (yes it was out on the buffet) I found a cooked roach at the bottom! I told the manager and showed it to him and he acted like it was not a big deal. He went took the pot to the back and emerged with the same pot not a minute later and it was refilled. Chinese Buffet in a small town, what do you expect. But I was surprised. From the outside the place looks like it has been closed for months. But I saw the OPEN sign and gave it a try. The place is clean, and has a good assortment of dishes in the buffet lines. Food is above average with a very above average crab dishes. Also the staff is very friendly. Let's start by saying, "Don't judge a book by it's cover." The outside appearance is... lacking. To be honest, it looks like it's been closed for years! However, it's fairly nice inside. Food buffet was nicely stocked and everything was pretty clean looking. Generous portions given for to-go orders! We ordered the Schezuan Shrimp and the Kung Pao chicken along with a few egg rolls. The shrimp wasn't that great. It was very rubbery in texture and not a lot of flavor. I asked for extra spicy Kung Pao chicken- wasn't that spicy but had a decent taste. Decent seems to be a fitting word for China Buffet. My only real complaint is that it was extremely HOT inside.... Like muggy, smother yourself hot. I actually had to step outside briefly. I type this in the backseat of a car headed to colorado wondering if all of us passengers will survive the trip without food poisoning. Our experience began as We walked in to a "fish pond/fountain" that was - as i read in previous reviews - still slimy and disgusting. Why we didn't turn around and head to the burger king across the road, I have no idea. The "buffet" was strange, labels of "cheese stick" and "chicken stick", along with the most rancid smelling noodles. My friends little sister had the Egg drop soup - and the egg inside it was green. It was horrible. we only knew it was egg due to the fact that she smelled it. My friends dad had the mussels, and he is currently pulled over attempting to make himself throw up. 9-5-2011 My wife and I stopped in for lunch about 11:30am. We were seated, then went to to the food bar and filled our plates and sat down to eat. The food was very cold. There was steam coming from pans at food bar but the food was cold. I aproached the cashier about the problem and all he did was argue with me. I showed him the cold food, he would use a spoon and stir the food saying this is cold! He would not taste it . We only ate a couple of bites of the food. While stranded in Dumas by a snowstorm, Chinese sounded good. What a pleasant surprise this restaurant was. Modest in size, but clean and neat, and the staff and owner were very friendly. A great variety of food (no chow mien or hard noodles) and was all hot and tasty. Prices were very reasonable for the buffet, and a senior discount. Had we been here longer then two days, we would have gone back. The regular rice was a little dry, but the fried rice was great. The honey chicken was especially good. 6 different flavors of ice cream for dessert, no extra charge, was an added treat. read more
