The Big Texan is worth visiting at least once for the experience. The Western atmosphere, Route 66 charm, and famous steak challenge make it a fun stop. The food was decent, but not the best steak I've ever had. Overall I wish they would have honored the Lunch special for us because waiting about 20 mins for our waiter was disappointing and not being able to get a deal.

I decided to visit amarillo just to try this place. last time, yrs ago when i was driving thru here i had saw their sign on the highway and added to my things to do in texas i routed my stop to this city just so i can get me some cheap steak in cattle town. feels like i was back in college, not naming it, but you can smell the cow poop in the morning biking to campus.... got a 24oz ribeye for $40 and a tall mug of porter for $10. total with tip was 60 something. i think i did 15% tip. the whole place had a texas vibe from the dining hall with all the deer heads mounted and all the staff in cowboy/girl gear. food was good. it was a great experience. would definitely return to try a different steak cut even bought merchandise from the store. it is definitely a tourist attraction.

Great Route 66 photo spot in front of the restaurant.

WOW! I guess third time's a charm because this dining experience was legendary! Our server, Anahya, was so friendly and attentive, which after being on the road all day was a welcomed experience. I had a flight of their in house brews and each were tasty. My sirloin was cooked to perfection as was my sidekick's filet. The vibe is always a fun cowboy themed experience.

The Big Texan Steak Ranch is definitely an experience, not just a meal! We went all in and ordered the ribeye, brisket, and ribs with sides of green chili creamed corn, fried okra, and cowboy beans. The steak was flavorful and tender, the ribs literally fell off the bone, and the brisket was solid and satisfying. The standout for me? The green chili creamed corn and fried okra, absolutely delicious and full of flavor. The cowboy beans were okay... just beans, nothing special compared to the rest of the meal. Service was superb, friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. And of course, the entertainment factor is real! While we were there, we watched someone attempt the famous 72 oz steak challenge. Fun fact: it's actually cheaper to take the challenge and pay less than to just order the steak outright. That alone tells you how legendary this place is. If you're in Amarillo, this is a must-stop for both the food and the atmosphere.

04/12/26 The food is just okay. The atmosphere is interesting, but of course it would be more fun if someone was competing in the 72oz steak challenge. We ordered the lone star cut for two and the steak tasted more like hamburger meat unfortunately. There's a hard sear on the outside of the steak that makes it pretty crisp and I wasn't a big fan. It also was a tad dry even though we ordered it medium rare. The star of the entire meal was the green chile creamed corn. My husband ordered the rattlesnake beer and asked for the 27oz mug which is only $10. The server told my husband that was the only beer he wasn't allowed to sell in a 27oz and he was pretty sure it was because of its high alcohol content. So, he had to get the lesser value at $7 for 16oz. Didn't really make sense since there are at least two other draft beer selections that had higher alcohol contents. Our server was nice, but he disappeared and didn't check on us until we were half done with our meal. Dinner was an experience, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend this place if you're looking for a good steak.

FUN VIBES! My dad has been talking about this restaurant non-stop since the last time he drove through the area, all of the billboards advertising the 72 oz steak challenge really drew him in. We took a stop here for lunch recently. Our server was okay, pretty bare minimum service and I had to ask for water refills. I liked the fried pickle appetizer, however I felt the pickle spears were too thick. Andreas were good, I really enjoyed the quesadilla and my dad enjoyed his steak. There's a bit of a communal vibe inside, with long tables where you are sat next to other parties. It was fun to talk to other people also going on road trips and talk about where they're coming from and going to.

Driving cross country with my son for his relocation to 29 Palms CA. Stopped at the legendary steakhouse. When we walked in at 5pm on a random Wednesday we were not prepared for the sensory overload.... Table up front was for the legends attempting the 72oz steak. Seating is both family style, booth and two or four. Tons of trophy horned animals and cattle horns. Couple guitar players belting out Texas classics. Service is super friendly and prompt. Although this is a tourist trap, it is also a darn good restaurant. Great place to stop on cross country tour.

Found this place after watching an episode from Wonderhussy on YouTube and made it a point to stop in during my road trip. Really glad I did. The place is huge and was absolutely packed when I got there, but the service was still friendly and quick. The steak was delicious and cooked perfectly, exactly what you want when stopping at a legendary Texas steakhouse. The whole spot has a fun, larger-than-life road trip vibe. It's definitely one of those classic roadside destinations that feels like part restaurant, part attraction. They also have the famous 72 oz steak challenge. No one was attempting it while I was there, but it was still fun seeing the setup and imagining someone trying to tackle it. If you're passing through Amarillo on a road trip, this is definitely a spot worth checking out. Great food and a memorable stop along the way.

This is a very busy place. They have a humongous side for just eating food and they have a gift shop a bar at the back a place that sells candies right when you walk in I think that's perfect placement because my son wouldn't stop asking for candy the whole time. The service was really good, fast friendly very easy but it is like I said a very busy place. We came with our two kids so when you have a small baby, everything takes a little longer, but that was nothing against him. It was just having a small child in a pretty busy place sometimes you can feel a little hectic. During our reading experience I think we got to witness six or eight people trying to finish the 72 ounce steak so it was awesome to try to cheer some people want to finish the steak even though they couldn't. The food was good definitely not the best steak I've had. I feel like it was a little bit pricey for the steak. I feel like it was more about the experience for us and how good the food was because I've had better stakes other places to be honest, but to take your family to this place and to just experience it yeah it's worth it. Just know that it'll cost you. I believe we spent 100 bucks and my wife and I got steak and my son got a pizza so that's a little expensive. But I highly recommended if you're traveling cross country a great place to stop in and just enjoy

This spot is actually surprisingly good considering that it seems like a tourist trap. They say that the sweet tea is homemade, but it's not the best. The rolls were good and had some sweetness to them. The side mac & cheese and beans were a bit small, but they were both good. The homemade ranch with the side salad was tasty. The filet was delicious, but had almost a little bit too much seasoning on it. It was a very fun environment. The service was a little bit slow, but they are always very busy.

Though we've been through in Amarillo multiple times, this is the first time we took an opportunity to stop. So very happy that we did! After getting her normal tourist pictures on the outside, we ventured in. We took a look at the dining hall and decided it was a little bit too boisterous and open for us. We opted to sit at the bar. There are a few tables there as well. Eric had a super job taking care of us! He did a great job explaining the menu and the process! He also made some killer drinks for us! We were not silly enough to try the free steak challenge. That said, I did decide on their 24 ounce porterhouse with a loaded baked potato and the red onion tomato salad. My wife opted for the lunch portion chicken quesadilla with a Caesar salad. My wife said that her Caesar salad was one of the best she's ever had! Though it looked pedestrian, it tasted superb! I liked the simplicity of my red onion and tomato salad, very tasty. Our meals came out fairly promptly. Huge! Even the chicken quesadilla, huge! My porterhouse was cooked to perfection and I truly enjoyed the loaded, baked potato! I did manage to eat the whole thing. My wife enjoyed her quesadilla, at least what she could eat of it as it was so large. Next time we're in the area, we will be stopping in again! This place is great! Thank you again, Eric!

Food came out cold and with an attitude. Overpriced, dirty restaurant. There's a reason locals aren't the main people dining here. They have a huge rattlesnake in a small aquarium with dirty water. Theres a very hot place for whoever decided this is all the life this creature deserves.

Raw steak?! I ordered it medium rare!

Yes. The Hotel takes reservations. My wife says the restaurant also takes reservations.

Do they have a Happy Hour?

They have happy hour drink specials but not happy hour food options.

Do they have televisions in the bar area?

Yes they do. The beer taps are in an area just removed from the bar. As you walk in the main entrance the beer taps are on the right, about 30-40 ft. inside the door. The bar area is just past the taps but to the left.

    Open today , Christmas?

Their website says they had a Christmas lunch Buffett but it looks like it only went till 3pm

Do they serve wine and spirits in addition to beer?

Yes, margs and well drinks are on the menu photos. It says ask your server about cocktail specials!

Can the 72 oz steak be ordered without participating in the challenge? Or do you have to order the tomahawk steak instead?

I believe you can purchase it without doing the challenge.

    Is there patio dining outside?

We were there in mid-October and I didn't see any. Also worth noting that although all the staff were wearing masks, about half the patrons were not. 😒

Do you need reservations for Saturday night?

    No we was just there

I want to do the steak challenge on Friday August 18. Do I have to book?

On a Friday I would call ahead just to be sure.

How big is the country fried steak dinner? Just the country fried steak itself

I ordered it and it was pretty big. It's also made out of hamburger meat, not beefsteak.

    Can you share plates?

Yes as far as I've seen. Portions are large.
