Try and stop by every time we're in town. It's always packed regardless of the day but most wait time is only 20 or so minutes which you barely notice if you spend some time looking around. Sitting is family-style, which is just part of the Texas charm and gives you a chance to meet your fellow travelers. It's a steakhouse and their steaks are definitely the star of the show. You have other options on the menu if beef isn't your thing. Steaks are usually cooked to your choice and seasoned perfectly, the rolls and butter are delicious. They have an excellent drink selection and have some home beers that are worth the try. I've always been too full to order dessert, but it's there for your selection. Service has always been friendly and I do hope the staff know how great they are. read more

Place does live up to the hype associated with it. I've been here before but about 15 years ago. I went small with a 12oz Ribeye with mash potatoes and gravy and fried okra. I skipped the line up for tables on a Sunday night, and went to the bar with open seating. Service was great and the food came out within 20 mins of ordering, which considering the size of this place was impressive. I don't know how they season the steak but seriously it was good. This is a must place if you are visiting Amarillo. The interior was huge with lots of decoration! The steak was good. The sides were actually smaller than what I expected. We ordered beer too. We got pale ale and they were so smooth and had excellent flavors!!! Kids menu came with a cowboy hat that our kids really loved. We also saw people doing the 72 oz steak challenge! Went to this tourist destination restaurant in Amarillo, Texas. This place is a home of the 72 ounce steak where if you eat it within a certain timeframe you get it for free. There's a big flat platform with a table on it where the contestants have to eat so everybody can see them. It's pretty fun to watch. It's a massive restaurant. There's an upstairs and a downstairs and it's filled with all kinds of things to see from Games, a rifle range, a bunch of stuffed animal heads on the wall, a big stuffed bear, and all kinds of rootin tootin iwestern memorabilia. We stopped for lunch while traveling and this restaurant is just okay these days. The food is good but the steak we ordered was not cooked to medium well. Also, the charged us extra to split a steak plate and didn't even put it on 2 different plates. Salad and baked potatoe was good along with the fried mushrooms. The Big Texan Steak Ranch definitely has a cool atmosphere and is worth checking out at least once. The restaurant is very "Texas," and the overall experience is definitely part of the attraction. We get there around a late dinner time, 5:45ish? We were told an hour and a half wait. We got seated less than an hour later, probably 40 minutes later. We spent some time in the gift shop which has lots of cool things to see or get. (We got stickers for the kids, my husband got a magnet, and I got a coffee mug.) After that, there was a baby cow that we could get pictures with for 10 dollars. We did and my daughter kissed the cow . Then we sat on a bench for maybe 10 minutes. Our waitress was very nice I like how she attended to us regularly but not too much, if you know what I mean. Some men walking around playing guitars came to our table and my daughter lit up! My husband gave them some cash and they played you are my sunshine for her and she was dancing and giggling. Best thing we ever did! It's a tad loud because it is a big place and of course people cheering for any contenders who take part in the steak challenge, but we would come again. We made reservations well in advance because we knew how popular this place was & to tell you the truth we weren't expecting great food because we thought this possibly could just be a novelty type but I'm here to tell you the food was out of this world & quite possibly the best meal/experience we've ever had! We ended up ordering the 1/2 lb Cheeseburger w Mac & Cheese & the 10 ounce Prime Rib w a side Caesar Salad. As mentioned above everything was absolutely fantastic! Our server, Estefania, did an excellent job of taking care of us despite it being a full house & the prices were more than fair ( 2 Entrees, 2 sides & 3 Cocktails ) for $ 100.37. We liked everything so much we came back for Breakfast the following morning & that was terrific as well. The Big Texan is far more than just the novelty of the 72 ounce Steak challenge, it's the total package. Next time we find ourselves in Amarillo we will absolutely have Dinner here again. Delicious We stopped here on our way through Amarillo on our way to Flagstaff and had to see everything. Especially people trying to eat a 72 ounce steak, which was a spectacle. The food was delicious and we were completely surprised when we actually got booth seating. I wouldn't recommend making a reservation because they are completely packed. It's worth a stop if you're on a Route 66 Chicago to Santa Monica journey . . . you can get a Passport stamp and experience a kitschy atmosphere. It's a restaurant, but don't go for the food. It's was 100 degrees outside and they made us sit with our service dog out on the patio because he barked once. Said the owner gets real mad if dogs bark. Huh? Dogs bark, they react to noise and people. Get over it. Hotel looks like a dump. Food was good, reasonably priced and we got take out. I decided to visit amarillo just to try this place. last time, yrs ago when i was driving thru here i had saw their sign on the highway and added to my things to do in texas i routed my stop to this city just so i can get me some cheap steak in cattle town. feels like i was back in college, not naming it, but you can smell the cow poop in the morning biking to campus.... got a 24oz ribeye for $40 and a tall mug of porter for $10. total with tip was 60 something. i think i did 15% tip. the whole place had a texas vibe from the dining hall with all the deer heads mounted and all the staff in cowboy/girl gear. food was good. it was a great experience. would definitely return to try a different steak cut even bought merchandise from the store. it is definitely a tourist attraction. read more

This is a great tourist spot you have to stop by ! The bread was awesome I took some Butter home the wine is great . I recommend the steaks they are delicious. Great lighting , wonderful interesting pictures around the whole place along with moose's and animals it also had a great gift shop ! The green chili creamed corn and fried okra, absolutely delicious and full of flavor. The cowboy beans were okay... just beans, nothing special compared to the rest of the meal. 04/12/26 The food is just okay. The atmosphere is interesting, but of course it would be more fun if someone was competing in the 72oz steak challenge. We ordered the lone star cut for two and the steak tasted more like hamburger meat unfortunately. There's a hard sear on the outside of the steak that makes it pretty crisp and I wasn't a big fan. It also was a tad dry even though we ordered it medium rare. The star of the entire meal was the green chile creamed corn. My husband ordered the rattlesnake beer and asked for the 27oz mug which is only $10. The server told my husband that was the only beer he wasn't allowed to sell in a 27oz and he was pretty sure it was because of its high alcohol content. So, he had to get the lesser value at $7 for 16oz. Didn't really make sense since there are at least two other draft beer selections that had higher alcohol contents. Our server was nice, but he disappeared and didn't check on us until we were half done with our meal. Dinner was an experience, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend this place if you're looking for a good steak. read more

FUN VIBES! My dad has been talking about this restaurant non-stop since the last time he drove through the area, all of the billboards advertising the 72 oz steak challenge really drew him in. We took a stop here for lunch recently. Our server was okay, pretty bare minimum service and I had to ask for water refills. I liked the fried pickle appetizer, however I felt the pickle spears were too thick. Andreas were good, I really enjoyed the quesadilla and my dad enjoyed his steak. Driving the I-40 and passing through this place is a MUST stop. The atmosphere is amazing. It's about as Texas as you can possibly get. Cowboy hats and boots on every staffer and the walls lined with mounts of hunting trips! The food is really good. Not the best steak I've ever had but still very good. Driving cross country with my son for his relocation to 29 Palms CA. Stopped at the legendary steakhouse. When we walked in at 5pm on a random Wednesday we were not prepared for the sensory overload.... Table up front was for the legends attempting the 72oz steak. Seating is both family style, booth and two or four. Tons of trophy horned animals and cattle horns. Couple guitar players belting out Texas classics. Service is super friendly and prompt. They have a humongous side for just eating food and they have a gift shop a bar at the back a place that sells candies right when you walk in I think that's perfect placement because my son wouldn't stop asking for candy the whole time. The food was good definitely not the best steak I've had. I feel like it was a little bit pricey for the steak. I feel like it was more about the experience for us and how good the food was because I've had better stakes other places to be honest, but to take your family to this place and to just experience it yeah it's worth it. Why doesn't this place have 5 stars?! This is my second time going to The Big Texan Steak Ranch. I first came here when I was 11 or 12 on a family roadtrip, and have remember it ever since. Now I came back, older and engaged, and experience was just as good as I remember it. We ordered the 21 oz steak for two and got four sides. This was so filling and more than enough. Also liked how the rolls are refillable, but I think you can only ask for extra once. Expect to eat most or all of your food, becaus the to-go boxes are limited. Seating wasn't an issue at all since my party wasn't big. Plenty of parking outside. Clean restrooms. A cute gift shop attached as well. read more

They seat you at a long table with other parties and it allows for good conversation with strangers you're eating near. Fun to watch the people taking on the 72 oz challenge. It didn't feel like the performers were very comfortable either. Husband ordered a steak medium rare, but it came out WELL DONE. Lady in the party next to us had to send her steak back to the kitchen not once, but TWICE. We are not high maintenance people. This is just a touristy place where the staff have to churn a high volume of customers each day. So quality is probably going to fall to the wayside. Also, I got the beef tips and mashed potatoes which comes with 2 sides. I got the hatch chile creamed corn, and the steak tomato and onion. The creamed corn was BLAND and the steak tomato with onion was just a raw tomato with a dash of salt and pepper and 3 rings of RAW PURPLE ONION. I thought the tomato would be blistered and the onion grilled???!! And the kicker was that the waitress gave us the wrong receipt for our order. (Which yes, when you're serving so many different tables, chances are you're going to have mix ups). It wasn't well seasoned. I think our server forgot about it, because when we received it was lukewarm.(I know steaks need to be rested, but not for that long!) Also some of it was raw! We stopped at the legendary Big Texan Steak Ranch on our Route 66 journey. This is a must stop for anyone passing through. The atmosphere was amazing. Our server was very attentive and cheery. They have a very large two level dining area. The steaks are grilled in plain sight in front of the stage where the world famous 72 oz steak challenge takes place. They bring out fresh baked rolls with your meal. The half order of fried mushrooms was great. My son enjoyed his two 5 oz steak filets, my wife was very pleased with her Prime Rib. As for the dining, I ordered the 16 oz ribeye cooked medium, with Texas fries and mac and cheese as my two sides, along with two beers. I have to say, the ribeye was actually pretty solid, and the price felt reasonable for what you get. The beer was a pleasant surprise too. I tried the Bomb City Bock and the Raspberry Wheat, and both were enjoyable. Had I not been traveling, I would have gotten a growler or two to go. A special shoutout to my waiter, Jake, who was professional, friendly, and very welcoming.
