They bring out fresh baked rolls with your meal. The half order of fried mushrooms was great. My son enjoyed his two 5 oz steak filets, my wife was very pleased with her Prime Rib. I decided to visit amarillo just to try this place. last time, yrs ago when i was driving thru here i had saw their sign on the highway and added to my things to do in texas i routed my stop to this city just so i can get me some cheap steak in cattle town. feels like i was back in college, not naming it, but you can smell the cow poop in the morning biking to campus.... got a 24oz ribeye for $40 and a tall mug of porter for $10. total with tip was 60 something. i think i did 15% tip. the whole place had a texas vibe from the dining hall with all the deer heads mounted and all the staff in cowboy/girl gear. food was good. it was a great experience. would definitely return to try a different steak cut even bought merchandise from the store. it is definitely a tourist attraction. read more

We ordered the lone star cut for two and the steak tasted more like hamburger meat unfortunately. There's a hard sear on the outside of the steak that makes it pretty crisp and I wasn't a big fan. It also was a tad dry even though we ordered it medium rare. The star of the entire meal was the green chile creamed corn. My husband ordered the rattlesnake beer and asked for the 27oz mug which is only $10. The server told my husband that was the only beer he wasn't allowed to sell in a 27oz and he was pretty sure it was because of its high alcohol content. So, he had to get the lesser value at $7 for 16oz. Didn't really make sense since there are at least two other draft beer selections that had higher alcohol contents. FUN VIBES! My dad has been talking about this restaurant non-stop since the last time he drove through the area, all of the billboards advertising the 72 oz steak challenge really drew him in. They have a humongous side for just eating food and they have a gift shop a bar at the back a place that sells candies right when you walk in I think that's perfect placement because my son wouldn't stop asking for candy the whole time. The service was really good, fast friendly very easy but it is like I said a very busy place. We came with our two kids so when you have a small baby, everything takes a little longer, but that was nothing against him. It was just having a small child in a pretty busy place sometimes you can feel a little hectic. The food was good definitely not the best steak I've had. I feel like it was a little bit pricey for the steak. From the time I was a little girl and could remember road trips, I remember this place. We never stopped here, but you can't help but see it when you're traveling along I-10 and passing through Amarillo. In the front are the challengers (IYKYK) sitting on a dais with time clocks above them. (We were thinking they should have over-the-table cameras with monitors around the restaurant to monitor their progress. We ordered the Slug Bug Punch in a boot for funsies, and they were so delicious after a day of driving. I ordered the ribeye with a loaded baked potato and a salad. The steak was ok. Not the best ribeye I've ever had, but good. Definitely, plenty left over for tomorrow. Everyone in the group seemed to enjoy their meals. It was a good experience overall. I took a point off because even though the staff was very friendly, they had so many tables and were so busy that things got missed (we asked multiple times for water, drinks, missing food items) and orders confused (someone in my party got my rare steak and I got their medium rare steak which we didn't realize until we'd cut into our steaks and started eating). The line to the hostess was long and we had to stand in it even though there was another sign that said reservations. However, when I walked up to the guy sitting there, he chuckled like I had asked a silly question when I asked if that was where we should check in. It was annoying. If you don't have a designated spot for reservations, then don't have a sign saying reservations. The hostess line was long but at least we were seated as soon as we checked in. Our server was great. We are staying just down the road in the big Texan RV park and of course you have to come here for at least one meal! It's definitely a touristy place but wow, this place is huge! Think of it as a Landry's kind of experience but focused on steak. The big challenge is you need to eat a 72 ounce steak, including all the sides that come with it less than an hour if you want to get that meal for free otherwise it is $72. We understand the current record holder is a lady that ate the steak in four minutes and she completed the full challenge and she's a small person at all the 128 pounds, so don't judge anyone by their size, lol. We came for a late lunch/early dinner as we have been driving all day. I know you're supposed to order beef at a steak place, but I can't do beef so I had the char grilled chicken sandwich and it was really good! They serve it with all the Fixins, including pickles, lettuce, tomato, and onion, and my side was the green chili cream corn. Everything was very tasty, and that chicken was very juicy. I enjoyed it immensely. Husband ordered the half pound burger and he said it was one of the best burgers he's had in a long time. His side was the fried okra, he didn't enjoy that quite as much, probably should have stuck with the fries. Our service was exceptional, while we were there at an odd time that made it a little more quiet than what others experience during the meal rush, she was super attentive and had our food to us within a matter of 10 minutes or so. Not only is there a main dining room room, there is an upstairs to the dining room as well as a really pretty bar area that we did not discover until afterward, might have like to have spent some time here. There is also a huge outdoor patio. It's just too hot to enjoy it today as well as a fun game shooting range and a gift store. There is also a carryout barbecue spot that looked like they do a pretty rapid business. There was somebody playing guitar, although we couldn't see exactly where they were. They moved around the room sitting in a chair, so never really quite figured that one out. There is also a "sweets" to go counter where you can get a piece of pie or cake to go, and the counter was pretty busy too! As touristy as it gets, but honestly there's not much else around there and it is unique, so worth a stop if you're passing through. Lots of random things to keep you entertained, including food challenges, a guy that plays guitar at your table, arcade games, gift shop, and some.. interesting decor. I kept it simple and just ordered some "spicy" chicken quesadillas. They weren't bad, not something to rave about, but hard to mess up chicken tenders on a tortilla and it hit the spot for me. They weren't very spicy at all. Our server was effective and did the job but not really friendly or talkative, which was surprising since they're all in "uniform" (figured the personalities would match the rest of the vibe). Look, it's not going to be the best meal you've ever had, but they lean into their brand, whatever that is, and it's intriguing and they've done a fine job with it.
