The slowest service ever. It's literally a buffet and it took THIRTY minutes to get my to go food. I could have bought baby chickens, raised them, slaughtered them and made my own general tsos chicken in the time it took this place to grab it from the buffet. It wasn't even that good either. When asked about the gratuity they said it was a mandatory charge and was rude!!! Tips are not mandatory they are EARNED!! We have been customers for 18yrs and we will never eat there again. After moving to Apple Valley Lake several years ago we didn't initially have a chance to visit this restaurant in Mount Vernon as COVID shut everything down. We had no ideal what we were missing. Once we were able to visit we found that the buffet is great, service is outstanding and the restaurant is clean. What a wonderful experience. And the price is extremely reasonable. I plan to return again and again. The Chinese food was authentic and there were many, many options. All of which tasted fantastic. And there were desert options too. If you are hungary and you enjoy Chinese food - this is the place to go. You can also order single items from the menu if you want something specific or a smaller portion than the full buffet. My wife had soup and an egg roll but I went for the full buffet and was not disappointed. Sure a tray or two were empty - but other trays were full and I just kept enjoying whatever was available. Never again. I have been going here regularly for more than a decade. My last visit is my last. My ENTIRE party of mine was disgusted. The food -- all the food except the soup -- was cold. Entire plates of food were uneaten, kids were crying and refusing to eat the chewy, ice cold green beans. It was a fiasco. I informed the management that the food was cold and a few minutes later he informed me that, indeed, the food warmers weren't even TURNED ON, on some of the dishes. He promised to "make it right." I told him we weren't interested in more food being put out. Our bill came to $110. They offered to take two $10 meals off. So I still paid $90 they put a gratuity on the bill. Some members of the party weren't even offered refills. We left and went McDonald's where I ended up spending $40 more to feed my family because none of us were satisfied. It was disgusting. Rudeness. Wanted the lunch options which is still on the buffet and walked in at 3:59 pm and we were told "we go by our clock" which meant dinner starts. Then we were told ok for lunch prices but "don't eat any seafood" Uhm left a lot out to choose from on the buffet. We have been going there for over ten years, recommended this place and have had large groups for family parties eat there. Every dedicated customer must not be important . Seems they only serve the cheapest version of each product their supplier offers and then fails to prepare that decent. Chicken products chewy, items in sauce swimming in it. Two items not bad were egg rolls and pot stickers but cold on buffet. Hard dip ice cream was even bad. Nuts in ice cream were soft and chocolate in mint ice cream gritty. Good place to eat. On my last visit, the lady who brings the food out from the kitchen did something pretty gross. I was trying to pick up some green beans and one landed on the buffet counter. When I had my back slightly turned, this lady picked it up and put it back into the buffet. She proceeded to mix this contaminated green bean in with the rest of the green beans. People put their dirty hands on the counter for crying out loud. Who knows what goes on in the kitchen where the food is cooked. I really hope this type of thing doesn't occur often. The other day, I was desperate and felt adventurous, so I wandered into China Buffet- a place I'd been to a couple of times years ago. I got a good reminder of why I don't patronize this place. There is nothing on the menu even remotely close to actual Chinese food, and the American versions of Chinese are done poorly. The food is flavorless, seriously lacking in seasoning. Vegetables are nearly non-existent. Several dishes on the menu specify Chinese vegetables but there are none of those actually offered, as was confirmed by the workers I spoke to. Everything is very saucy. There is no such thing as spicy. I also suspect that cleanliness is lacking. For one thing I am extremely disgusted by the fact that take out orders seem to come from the buffet. I ordered spring rolls and it looked like they just pulled them off the buffet, where who knows what has touched them. Gross! In the past, I have ordered vegetarian dishes only to find pieces of animal in them. It appears that the workers simply scooped the food off the buffet and picked out the meat chunks- it is unlikely they made it fresh to order. All in all, this is a place to avoid. I will NOT be returning to China Buffet unless they are the only place that survives the Zombie Apocalypse. read more

I have ate here many, many times. Manager very friendly. Service is usually good. My only complaint is a lot of times the trays are empty and they are never in a hurry to refill them even when told they are empty and the food is sometimes cold. Reasonable price for ok food. We went out to eat with some friends of ours earlier this evening, to China Buffet, here in town. There were 8 of us in total, 2 families of 4. We were seated together. We ate, had our plates cleared. The younger ones had their drinks refilled 3 times, while we were not even asked. (I finally got up and got ours myself) The "waitress" came and cleared our plates ONLY! When the bill came, they put us all on the same check AND added a 10% gratuity charge! (more than $10) Mind you, the gratuity was figured AFTER the tax! We go to pay, separately, and get into a big discussion with the clerk. NO WHERE is it posted that a gratuity will be charged on parties of 8 or more. He didn't want to hear about our poor service. He did take the gratuity charge off, after I told him I wasn't paying it. I came here twice one for Sunday dinner buffet and one for weekday lunch buffet. Price is very reasonable about $10 for dinner and $7 for lunch. Clean tables and bathrooms. The service was good. Lot of items to choose from. They keeps refilling the food. If I visit Mount Vernon I will come back and visit. read more

My cousin and I just went today and we felt like we were being rushed out. They took my plates before i was finished eating off of them. Denied my mobility service dog because I wasn't blind or in a wheelchair. Kevin was his name and he was very rude. He told me I have my mom that can make sure I don't fall over or pass out on the floor and I didn't need my dog. Ended up reporting them. I could very easily sue. read more

One of my favorite Chinese buffets. Good food, good variety. About the same as you'd expect from any other Americanized Chinese restaurant, but the food is a lot fresher than that of what I've seen at other Chinese restaurants.
