We had a terrible experience here on July 25. My friend found a parasite in her fish, which looked like a white worm. The waitress told us there was nothing she could do and took the fork to the kitchen. The meal with the parasite was refunded, but the waitress had a rude attitude throughout and acted as though she expected tipping. I won't be coming back and I encourage customers not to unless the restaurant makes a statement about food quality control. read more

When you're strolling down Middle Path and need a bite, the Village Inn is the perfect spot for good food and drinks with no pretension (not easy in Gambier). We shared a bacon burger (meaty and satisfying), fish and chips (as good as any fish and chips in England), an Impossible Burger (not bad for a faux burger) and a garden salad. Definitely a good choice for a casual lunch for a decent price especially because there are limited options of restaurants open weekday lunch time here. Large menu that can appeal to many different tastes. Service was great with fast drink refills. Food is decent but nothing to rave about but would definitely return here though if I was in this area because it's the best option. read more

So I am connected with this place on another social media site and always come across post about their daily specials that always makes me wish I was there. So friday we unexpectedly ended up kid free and decided to hit up this place. The Village is located on the campus of prestigious Kenyan College. Ranked #26 in National Liberal Arts Colleges and the oldest private college in Ohio. Not only is the drive there scenic, its setting is atop a huge hill in the country is unbelievably beautiful. Pulling in was like any other small school campus. We were able to find a parking spot right out front. The place was packed when we walked in. My husband headed to the bar for drinks, I headed for the hostess and added our name to the list. Within 10min we had drinks and 20min or so we had a table. It definitely had the fraternity/sorority parents night vibe, but pretty cool atmosphere. Greeted right away, spoke with server for a sec, said we should def come back during the week for breakfast or lunch when its not as busy. We decided to start off with the portobello fries served with side of pesto aioli. When they arrived I was surprised with the generous portion, they seemed maybe deepfried but the aioli ..... my husband and I could not get enough. I am drooling as I type this just thinking about it. Next we decided to share the Carolina Burger and house salad for the side and of course we asked for extra side of the pesto aioli as a dressing (its that good!). The salad was delicious and filled with a great mixture of dried cherries, roasted walnut and goat cheese. Awesome serving size considering we split it. The burger was meh. Presentation was meh. Couldn't really see or taste the pimento cheese. Bacon consisted of basically bacon bits. My husband requested well done, it tasted a bit burnt. He is a burger guy and orders it the same way everywhere, this was a little too well. Since we left no room for dessert we finished our drinks and were on our way. This is a great place to check out. I definitely want to return to sample the rest of their menu. Everything sounds delectable. Last but not least - The Village only uses paper straws! Yay Environment! Provided an amazing night for the MVHS class of 2003-- 20th reunion. Atmosphere was amazing. Very spacious inside with a large area for a DJ and Dancing. Outside seating and lighting was beau designed and added a touch of charm. Food was delicious, drinks (mixed or draft) hit the spot. The Gambier VI is gem! My husband and I fell in love with the location and will be looking into having our 20th wedding anniversary party here in the next year. read more

There isn't a whole lot to tiny little college town Gambier, Ohio (home to Kenyon College), but the few eateries and businesses it does offer have left me (literally) with a good taste in my mouth. The Village Inn (which is not an inn and should not to be confused with The Kenyon Inn, which IS an inn... AND a restaurant - are you taking notes?) was our first stop after a long day of work and travel, and both J and I were starving and parched. Fortunately this joint had us covered on both counts. Comfortably crowded, the Inn's two rooms are rustic but cozy enough. With a wide and rotating range of beers on tap, the bar satisfied us both and the menu would please no less. Not just your standard pub grub (which I suppose it what I'd expected of a campus tavern), the offerings ran the gamut from what J swears was the best burger he sunk his teeth into in quite some time, to portobello mushroom caps stuffed with fresh goat cheese and marinated roasted red peppers (this was supposed to come with mashed potatoes - which they were thankfully out of, because the substituted fries were mui tasty!). High quality food at surprisingly affordable prices. We've paid twice as much in Columbus for similar fare. Our server was friendly and talkative and quick with the necessities, and we left sated and sleepy. The perfect beginning to a long, chill weekend in the country. read more

Look at the photos, peeps--the food at the Village Inn (guess what? not an inn, just a restaurant) is standard but solid: burgers, salads, fries etc. This is the restaurant (yes, I said it, the only restaurant as far as I could tell) in Gambier. So if you're going out to dinner and you're not going to the fancier kitchen at the Kenyon Inn (yup, that's an actual inn) across the street, this is where you're eating. Big props to the waiter/kitchen for not freaking out on us or punishing us (that I know of) for sitting down 10 minutes before the kitchen closed at 9. When we'd asked earlier, they said they closed at 11--but that's for the bar. So we ordered as fast as possible, and everything was tasty if not memorable. (And yes, we tipped big because you know, *10 minutes before the kitchen closed*. Sorry about that.) Go here hungry, because the portions are generous and the beer is tasty. read more

Don't get lost: It's not an inn, but there is one next door. It's not called a pub, but its one of the best bars in Gambier. Got it? The Village Inn is perfect for Friday afternoons off of work, summer nights on the patio, or even the occasional first date inside. Their menu ranges from delicious greek salads to some of the finer foods featuring signature cheeses and sauces. It's the best place to sit outside in Gambier, but its definitely a small patio. Don't be in a hurry, it may take 30-40 minutes to get your food, but the environment is certainly not perceiving a fast-food ordeal. Portobello Mushroom Caps are awesome, stuffed with goat cheese and roasted red peppers. Wings are standard, but a great buy for an appetizer. Their burgers are incredibly good, but I'm not a big fan of the fries that go with it. Dinner in Gambier needs to be done here. Afterwards, you've got coffee to your left and Velvet Ice Cream to your right. read more
