    Boneless BBQ ribs
    Nicholas H.

A solid choice for food in Boothbay Harbor. Ambiance: classic American Chinese restaurant decor, clean tables, comfortable seats. Service: very friendly, fast, and genuinely cared about why I didn't find the meal perfect. Food: We had boneless ribs, teriyaki beef, pork fried rice, and gai poo lo mein. The ribs were well cooked, not overly sweet, with a slight smoky flavor too. The teriyaki beef also was delicious, and solid sections of meat. The fried rice benefited from a touch of soy sauce at the table, but that's better than coming out too salty. I was about ready to declare this a perfect meal, but then I found that the lo mein is made with spaghetti noodles. You could tell the noodles had been prepared entirely separately from the rest of the dish as they had no flavor. This marred an otherwise desirable dish, with good size chunks of lobster, shrimp, beef, and chicken fingers all mixed with vegetables and sauce. Overall, I'm still confident in this restaurant and would recommend them.

I am so glad we decided to eat here before reading any reviews! This was the best Chinese food we have had in quite some time! The egg rolls were fresh and delicious. The crab Rangoon were crisp, creamy, and had a taste of crab. The Sweet n Sour Chicken was crisp, perfectly cooked and the sauce was a great mix of sweet and sour. The Cashew shrimp was very fresh and delicious! Our waitress was very nice and friendly. We will go back.

I really wanted to like this place. I'd heard some positive things, but had failed to check rating on Yelp. My mistake. Keeping this short and to the point. Let me start with what I liked: -The sauce wasn't too salty, yet it was flavorful. This concludes what I liked. Yikes. The rest: -1 star: $14 Hon Sue Gai - no soup, no fried rice, nada. For that price, I want a side, like most places would give. Veg size was OK, chicken, less so. -1 star: Vegetables were old, discolored (especially broccoli) and tasted "off" (ESPECIALLY broccoli). I am used to saying, "well, at least the vegetables were fresh", when eating poor Chinese food. I could not retreat to that mantra here. It was nice that they are willing to exclude things one doesn't like (mushrooms): not every place can and will do that. Still... -1 star: see pic, not only were the chicken fingers scanty in quantity, the actual amount of chicken in each finger was smaller than a AAA battery. I actually laughed, rather than get upset or disappointed. It reminded me of when Apu went to an airport Quick-E-Mart, saw the inflated prices and said, "You magnificent bastard, I salute you!" The sheer chutzpah to put out a product like this! Well, judge for yourself. I always seem to say that this is the last Chinese I will try. Here we go again.

Had the Shanghai lobster and some beef chow fun. It was delicious, would go back to try the Chinese focused dishes.

This is one of the worst meals I have had in years. The rice tasted old, everything was over cooked. Just awful.

Pleasant, relaxing atmosphere. Exc. service, large portions of delicious, well-prepared food. I'm a regular! Pros: food; Cons: drinks.

Last night best night and we ended our trip with dinner at Empire Chinese Kitchen and I'm so glad…read morewe did. We came in on Saturday night knowing we would have to wait so we went to the bar. They had a special cocktail that night and it was so good I wish I could remember what it was called but you have to try whatever their specialty drink of the night is. Since we had a large party we ordered a lot because everything sounds so good so we did a bunch of Dim Sum and a few mans as well. We went with: Empire Eggrolls Lobster Rangoons Char Siu Baos Spicy Pork Belly Buns Pork Potsticks Shanghai Soup Dumplings Shu Mai Curry Udon Kung Pao Chicken Honestly everything was great but the stand outs for me were the Lobster Rangoons, Char Siu Baos, Pork Potsticks, Curry Udon, and the Kung Pao Chicken. First of Lobster Rangoons I mean how do you not. Portland Maine being Lobster Paradise this just makes sense and is a must try staple here. Just takes your normal Chinese Crab Rangoon to the next level. The Char Siu Baos where the best BBQ Pork Bun I have ever had. I know these can be hit or miss sometimes but Empire it doing it right truly the best I have had. The Pork Potsticks were also great. A top 3 dumpling I have had. I honestly wasn't expecting much but these were amazing. The Curry Udon was kind of a funny story. I said we should try this and my friends like me know it was vegan but for once that didn't bother me. This was great and so full of flavor. Plus you can't go wrong with Udon. Kung Pao Chicken is always my go to and this one takes the cake. The Chicken is lighty battered and so full of flavor. One of the best I have ever had. Honestly you can't go wrong with anything we had at Empire Chinese and I would 100% go back and do it all again. I'll end this review the way we started dinner. Lobsta Goooooonnnnsss!

The husband and I walked in while waiting for a performance at One Longfellow Square. It's been…read moreover 10 years since either of us had been to Empire, and we were blown away by the service, ambiance, and food! As a bariatric patient I can't eat too much in one go, so we opted to go with dumplings and drinks, and it was totally the way to go. Drinks: * Strawberry Mojito: sweet, flavorful, and not over powering on the mint. 10/10 from the husband. * Margarita: sour, strong, and they were so wonderful to make it a passion fruit one for me as well. Just a bit small for me. 9/10 Food: * Shanghai soup dumplings: soft and flavorful. Full of filling, but lacking in soup base so it didn't really hit the spot. 7/10 * Steamed pork dumplings: large and in charge! The rice wrapper was a lovely texture but too delicate, resulting in completely falling apart. 8/10 * Garlic bok choy: Converted my husband to actually enjoying bok choy instead of questioning it at every turn. Only wishing it was more garlic forward! 8/10 Go to Empire Chinese Kitchen for a lovely evening out for food or drink! You won't be disappointed.
