They were already out of the local honey soda since I guess they're getting ready to close for the season (it's mid September). The lady who took our order when we finally got to the counter was nice. After we ordered we sat down at a table to wait, it was a nice day out and you could kinds of see the water. We didn't have a problem finding a table, so there is probably the perfect amount of tables correlated to the somewhat slow single cashier ordering system. The lobster roll was piled high and delicious. The lobster is cold but tasted very fresh. Got it with some warm butter and some lemons. I prefer a warm lobster roll, but this lobster roll was just outstanding. Huge and fresh and tons of meat, including plenty of tail meat where most other places only give you mostly claw meat. It was loaded so high, I had to take like a third of the meat off just so I could fit the sandwich in my mouth, and then I ate the lobster on its own with a fork. Easily the best lobster roll I've ever had. But again, not sure if it was worth the 1.5+ hour wait. I stopped here on our way from Portland to Bar Harbor for a few days, and I actually had the opportunity to stop here again on the way back but opted not to because 90+ minutes is a long time to wait for a sandwich. Unfortunately, our experience over Labor Day weekend so bad, I felt compelled to post a review to warn people that if the restaurant is busy, go elsewhere unless you want to be yelled at by the General Manager. We arrived 10-15 minutes early for our 7:00 reservation and were asked to wait because the restaurant was extremely busy, completely understandable. After asking for permission to wait in the lounge area where there were open seats, we were told no, that we must wait in the small area sandwiched between the bar, the door, the bathrooms and the hostess stand. So we chose to wait outside where there was a table with two chairs since my mother-in-law, who is over 80 and has a heart condition, really needed to be seated for the wait. Since we were not told how long the wait for the table would be, I did what I thought was a totally normal thing, ask those in my party if they wanted a drink during the wait and went in to the bar to place an order. The manager first approached me to tell me that I was not allowed to sit in one of the 4 open seats at the bar. I had not attempted to do so but was waiting at that opening to order drinks. But the manager prevented me from doing so, accused me of trying to "push ahead of the line," telling me that his bartender was "so confused" by my attempt to walk up to her and order drinks. He told me he would send a server outside to get our order but no one came so i just popped back inside and stood at the corner of the bar with the intent to order a glass of icewater for my mother-in-law - the manager immediately accosted me and aggressively asked me if I even had a reservation, if we had even checked in for it and the hostess confirmed we had and that it was for 7:00. So then the Manager told me yet again that they were extraordinarily busy, "couldn't I see that?", and that I had to wait until the reservation time came before I would be permitted to order anything from the bar. It was 6:54. The interaction escalated from there. After I returned outside to tell my party that we were not allowed to order anything until 7:00, the manager followed me outside, loudly reprimanded me for "making a scene," that we didn't have to eat at his restaurant, and then told us our table was ready where he continued arguing with and admonishing me as he escorted us through the restaurant to our table--even after I had sat down. When I later Googled the restaurant to find the name of the general manager so I could complain, I identified the person I had interacted with as Shane MacCarthy, the general manager. I understand that restaurants get overwhelmed on busy holiday weekends. A wait or slow service would not have bothered me. Being treated this way by the general manager did. I have never been to a restaurant where customers awaiting a table are not only not allowed to order a drink from a functioning bar. I have never been in a restaurant where a customer is yelled out for crime of walking up to a bar and ordering a round of drinks from the bartender. I am not sure if the manager was just having a bad night, or that this is the standing policy that they refuse to serve anything to customers waiting to be seated. I don't care to try eating at Water Street again to find out - we won't be back. Anyone have recommendations for a new favorite place to eat near Wiscasset?

We had a very large group of 31 guests, and the restaurant did an incredible job accommodating our celebration. With Corinna's help we planned a seasonal menu with oysters, appetizers, main courses and dessert. We started with oysters; a small table was set up near the bar where local oysters were shucked in front of us, presented on the shell with house-made mignonette and cocktail sauces. Very delicious and a great pairing with wine and beer. The bar area was cleared, so that mingling was easy and spacious. After that we were seated at three decorated tables. Then the food started rolling out of the kitchen; house focaccia with maple butter, Bistro Caesar salad, mushroom toast and additional appetizers, all delicious. The focaccia with maple butter and mushroom toast were group favorites. For entrées, the kitchen was killing it with sweet corn risotto, monkfish, and short ribs. We had never had monk fish, so we decided to try it, and boy are we glad we did - outstanding, with lentils, lightly seasoned to let the fish shine through, cooked perfectly. The sweet corn risotto is a plate I will be back for, the gruyere a nice backdrop for the corn. Following up with a simple but elegant dessert of sticky toffee pudding with brown butter-bay leaf ice cream and blueberry ice cream, sweet toffee with a cool, creamy finish; a great combination.
