The food was decent. Love the shrimp fried rice, but I found a piece of a bug in the container after eating some rice. The mumbo wings were decent--not fresh though and they come in a bag, which caused the sauce to leak out onto the other food. Very messy. The cheese steak was my favorite, but it was weirdly cut into 4 pieces. The yat was not good and was not mixed (the sauce was on the top with veggies and the egg was at the bottom with broth) and the fork they provided was so cheap that I was unable to mix the yat and eat it. I received recommendations for this place--but no one warned me about the area. The area is sketchy, I visited at night. The staff seemed a little friendly until I asked for soy sauce and duck sauce. I stopped by because I was strongly craving some Chinese takeout. I got the lunch special JUST in time (I think it was 7.99 or 8.99?). The downside is that it's CASH ONLY or Venmo (very odd to ask customer to Venmo) & I didn't know until I got there. I wish they had informed beforehand, but thankfully I was able to Venmo them. The ambiance was typical of a Chinese carryout restaurant. Slightly dirty too. The Egg fu young nor gravy, oddly enough, were not seasoned enough for my liking. It was also too oily. I added more salt to it to being more flavor out. The fried rice under it was fine. I dont know if I will return again but you I can say you will get your money's worth because you'll get a lot of food. Hands down this has to be one of the best Chinese spots I've tried in the DMV. The food was fresh and everything was hot. Portion size was great and the food was flavorful. This has become one of my favorite carryouts! I'm originally from PG county and I have my local faves but my mom recently moved to NE and when I want carryout, I don't want to drive across down. Thankfully, I know to check out Yelp so that I can find the best of the best. To test out China Cafe, I went with a few of our fave: spring rolls, shrimp & broccoli, and shrimp egg foo yung. I'm pleased to say that each of them were tasty and well-prepared. I also appreciate that the actual restaurant appears to be clean and well kept as that is a big issue with many carryouts. I had a random craving for Chinese one night so I took a leap of faith and tried China Cafe Carryout for the first time, due to its reviews and I was not disappointed. I ordered the orange chicken, white rice, and a egg roll and my cravings were well satisfied. They did not hold back on the portion size either. I had enough for dinner and lunch the next day. My only issue was they only accepted cash. As someone who doesn't carry cash, I became discouraged but strangely enough, they accepted CashApp so I was able to pay for my food. There was a ATM inside the restaurant also though I had no intention in using it. I highly recommend though! The worst Chinese I've ever had. We ordered General Tso, chicken and broccoli, and sweet and sour chicken. All 3 were far below subpar. This really was the worst Chinese food I've ever had. It was soggy, heavy, not very flavorful. The portions were big, but that's all. There was also a piece of metal in my food. Looked like it came from a stainless steel scrubber. Also no utensils. It's a fairly new; clean on the inside. Staff is very nice. They're pretty cool with their 'regulars." The food has not been a let down yet. I'm a foodie so I like trying items not typical to the neighborhood. The food is always fresh, never greasy.
