China Café in Springhurst is one of those little spots that keeps surprising us. Erik and I have been a few times now, and every visit has been great. The staff is always friendly, the place is small but super clean, and the food is made fresh every time. Today I had the General Tso chicken with fried rice and an egg roll, and Erik got the sweet and sour pork combo. Both were delicious and hot. They don't have fountain drinks, but the bottled options worked just fine. We've also used their delivery service before and had the same great experience. This is literally the best Chinese place in Louisville bar none. Seriously, none compare. I gave 4 stars because giving 5 might ruin their perfect 3.5 rating. If you don't know what I'm talking about then go on Tik Tok and look up Chinese 3.5 star. This is literally some of the best food in the city. I have never been disappointed. This place is so far in first place that it just might be the best Chinese food in the United States. Despite the overall low ratings on here, this place tastes fantastic! I used to patronize another Chinese place in town, but they've since gone down in quality since they got a new chef. I came to grab carry-out for lunch for my sister and mom and I. I called and they told me it would be ready in about ten minutes. While I wasn't there on time, they called me to let me know it was ready. It's a small space inside! There are a few booths, but I'm sure most people get carry-out. They also do delivery! I ordered the lunch portion of Szechuan chicken with an egg roll for myself, Orange chicken with an egg roll for my sister, and a side of fried rice for my mom. It was a good amount for lunch! The staff did not wear masks. The resturant had curb side pick up, and the woman who brought me food had a mask on. But everyone who was in the kitchen did not have masks. As for the food, I ordered the sweet and sour chicken as a combination plate. There was a generous amount of chicken. The container was plastic so the chicken lost the crispiness on the way home. I've only had a few things at this restaurant. The crab Rangoon's are delicious. The spring rolls are good. The house fried rice is good however, the chicken rice soup has their version of chicken in it, which is some kind of processed, looking concoction that I didn't like at all next time I will tell them to leave the chicken pieces out. Perfectly Average. 4 stars for being family owned...clean but an older strip mall setting . Food came to us hot fresh but someone needs to filter the deep fryer....the menu is a typical Chinese carry out. You may live in New York or Los Angeles or here but you have seen the menu repeated a million times... I ordered Kung po chicken but it was prepared to be safe aka not spicy( bland sauce )and fried rice was as good as from a box but again ....Chinese takeout not a restaurant so everything quick fast hot fresh but easily forgotten however my family who eats Chinese way more than I ....loved it crab Rangoon was tasty veggie loman was great and fried dumplings were the best they had....by far anywhere.....so four stars from my family for China Cafe. read more

I am a regular customer and I always get the same thing, 2 small shrimp lomein, 1 large and one gluten free shrimp lomein. I got home and found that the GF was not GF and was the regular noodles. Called them and said to come and replace it. I got there and the lady was just screaming and yelling in chinese for 10 minutes and she told the cashier to refund me the money because she can't make me the food because they're busy. She denied the refund when I called but now she is willing to so she doesn't have to make it. She is still yelling as we speak. This shity store has no freaking customer service. The BEST Chinese in Lou- hands down! I've been coming to the same China cafe for over ten years and no other place in town can compare. The chicken is always so crispy and fresh compared to getting soggy chicken at most Chinese spots. I love it! The prices are so reasonable for the amount of food you get, the family who owns it are super sweet and great at what they do, and it's always super fast. I'll never order Chinese takeout from anywhere else, worth the extra 15 min drive since I moved too! I was at work yesterday and my client and I love Chinese food. We would go to the buffet at Jade Palace often because he loves buffets. Unfortunately that's not an option now. China Cafe, on the other hand is a wonderful option! They also have in house delivery so you don't have to pay the additional money for a third party delivery service. My client ordered beef and broccoli. It was a great, filling, lunch portion. I love Kung Pao chicken, but, I have to be very careful when it comes to spice levels. They made mine with all of the red pepper chili oil on the side. The chicken was white meat, cut in thin strips and the vegetables still had some crunch, which added a great texture to the meal. You can also substitute an egg roll for 2 crab rangoons with the lunch combo if you prefer. The hot and sour soup and the egg drop wonton soup is also delicious. Overall, the food quality, timeliness by a very nice delivery person and amazingly reasonable prices leaves me to definitely rate this restaurant 5 stars... read more

I love this place, but they need to make sure everyone they advertise with have the same hours of operation. One place says they're open till 11pm on fridays and Saturday's, another says 10:30, and yet another ones says 10pm. It's turned into an eventful night. It's 9:00 PM, it's raining, my truck won't start and I've loaded my work gear in a bag that I just bought. I'm standing off to the side of an Ollie's, the temperature has dropped double digits since a storm roared through and I've been waiting for around two hours for a tow truck. I'm starving and I haven't had dinner yet. I haven't had the chance to even think about food but then I hear a voice. A quite and faint voice at first that soon turned into a screaming banshee! It's my stomach and I need to react fast. I need something to quite this roaring beast and I couldn't see anything in site.... until I turned to my right. There at the end of the strip mall, on the corner, was China Cafe. Even though I was waiting for a tow truck I figured, "I've been waiting long enough, what's a few more minutes?" Plus.... I'm damn hungry! I saunter over to China Cafe (yes, I saunter), with my bag of gear towed behind and enter into an empty restaurant. Granted, it was 9:00 PM so I didn't expect many, if any, patrons. Although greeted by an empty restaurant, it was clean and orderly, double plus good! The counter is located toward the back of the restaurant so you have to pass several tables before reaching the counter. I was greeted before I reached the second table with a, "Hello, welcome!" by a kind lady behind the counter. Considering my current circumstance I wasn't going to sit and eat since I didn't have the time for a complete meal. I needed something to eat while standing... while waiting for this wretched tow to show up. The menu was typical for a standard run of the mill Chinese Restaurant. After perusing through the menu I decided to stay safe. I went for my "I've never been here before. Everything looks good and I can't decide so I'll keep it safe and pick a simple dish. So simple that if they screw this up I'm never coming back because this place can't make a simple dish and therefore sucks" dish. My default is always fried rice. I ordered a quart of the combo fried rice. I paid around $11 for the rice and a 20 ounce Diet Coke (because carbs, lol). The price seemed a little steep but I've also paid more for less at other restaurants. Plus, I was hungry and didn't care about the cost so much at the moment. After ordering I walked to the front window and waited for my tow to show up. When my order was ready the kind lady behind the counter walked up to the front of the restaurant and gave me my food. I still don't know if she would normally do this (I assume she would) or she was just handing my food over so quickly to get rid of the dude that walked in after 9 PM with a back full of who knows what and kept staring out of the window. After getting my food I head back across the parking lot and underneath the awning to wait for my tow to show up. I pull out the quart of rice and the quart is literally overflowing with rice! They crammed every bit of pork, chicken, shrimp and rice grains that could fit. So I grab the chop sticks to dig in. I was so hungry I was tempted to use the plastic spoon they provided but nope... got to stay real and keep to the sticks. Just need to pinch faster! The rice was light and fluffy and the pork, chicken and shrimp were all cooked well. Some places tend to go heavy on the oil and end up making a greasy stir fry. Not China Cafe. Their stir fry was light, very satisfying and and filled me up pretty quick. It had to because after several bites my tow showed up I ended up eating some more after the tow, while waiting for a Lyft at the dealership later in the night. (The tow and service at the dealership are other parts of the story.) The food was still warm and maintained much of its flavor after cooling down. China Cafe provided some relief to a crappy night and I hope to revisit soon. read more

This is pretty much my go-to place for Chinese takeout. Easy online ordering for delivery, quick and polite service. Order is always correct. I've never gotten an upset stomach after eating it. That's rare for me regarding Chinese food. I especially like the orange chicken and I can't get food from here without the addition of fried donuts -- which are more like fried donut holes but less sweet and with powdered sugar on them. I could eat six of those in a sitting. Luckily an order gives you many more. Extra points for this location because last time I ordered I got Kung fu panda fortune cookies. Heck yes. I eagerly anticipated the opening of this restaurant since Famous Dave's (or whatever that place is called) took away the only other Oriental close by. At first I concluded that it was decent...pretty par for the course fare. I only went for lunch and it is a great value. $5.25 for the lunch special including eggroll. And it is a huge helping. Then my wife and daughter started getting dinner on nights that I had practice and they really liked it. It has gotten to the point that we eat there about every 10 days, if not more. This past Saturday night the kids were both out for the night and we didn't really feel like going out so we called them with a take-out order. It was then (OK, I'm a little slow sometimes) that I found out THEY DELIVER!! Not only do they deliver, but they do it quickly and the food was piping hot. And this was the night of the UK/UL football game. From my call to dinner at my door took 18 minutes. Sorry pizza delivery people....you've been trumped. China Cafe is my new #1 go to place! Absolutely yummy! I no more than cleaned my plate when I decided to write a review. I order Chinese delivery a lot. I decided to try something new today so I went online and found China Cafe. Although I've passed by this restaurant a million times I always stuck with my regular Chinese delivery places. I'm so happy I decided to to go out of my "comfort zone". My order consisted of chicken fingers, crab rangoons with sweet & sour sauce, plain lo mein, wonton soup, and garlic chicken with white rice. The chicken fingers were more like little nuggets. They had awesome flavor and weren't greasy at all for a fried and battered piece of meat. I got a whole pint container of those for less that $5! The crab rangoons were very good too. Nice and creamy middle with a crunchy outside. I really liked them with the sweet & sour sauce because it wasn't too much with an overbearing sweetness. I'd say it was pretty much perfect! The lo mein was cooked perfectly. Great flavor. The garlic chicken was awesome! I really liked how they asked me if I wanted it mild, medium or hot. I went mild this time, but next time I might try medium for an extra kick of spice. The white rice was fluffy and perfect with this dish. By this time I'm super stuffed but wanted to try the wonton soup while it was fresh and hot. Wow was it good! Wonderful flavor and I loved all the green onions floating in the broth. Other than the flavor of the food, it was delivered fast and very hot. The delivery driver was super friendly and thanked me several times as well as wishing me a happy new year.
