Crappy American Chinese food. I have no idea why it always looks packed.

My family and I have been going to China Chefs for many years (we also get takeout). I think they have some of the best Chinese food you can get in Utah. We love this place. The food is awesome! The flavors are poppin, it's all great quality, the menu has a large selection, and everything I've ever tried has been delicious. I'm in love with their sweet and sour shrimp, eggrolls, ham-fried rice, hot and sour soup, and hot mustard. The staff and owners are the kindest people. They have great service. For me, this is the perfect Chinese restaurant. 5/5 stars. read more

This is definitely the worst Chinese food we have ever had. We were shocked at how terrible the food tasted after seeing so many positive reviews. We literally ate the steamed rice and nothing else. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone ever, not even people we hated. Even our kid wanted to know why it tasted so bad. We paid our $25 and left, leaving everything on the plate, almost untouched. read more

Like most Chinese restaurants in Utah, it was good, but didn't blow me away. The service was amazing. Our server was very attentive and got our food quickly. We were in and out of the place in 30-40 minutes. We ordered the Pon Pon Chicken, which seemed to have been sitting out for a while. The chicken was not crispy or hot (pretty soggy) and the sauce could have been a bit more spicy (it was a little bland). The crab wontons were REALLY good. Overall, the service was A+ and the food might have been good had it been fresher. read more

I have been to China Chefs in Riverton 4 times now and the food is just as good as the first time(exellent tasting, hot and always fresh). I don't know why this place is not packed with people. If you don't know where it is then find it and try it. One of my favorites is the Walnut shrimp. I honestly have never had better. My family gets something different and we share it to find out if all the dishes are as good as our favorites. I can tell you we have not had a bad selection yet. The food is good, I'll give them that but the service is poor when ordering takeout. They are slow, unorganized and they commit the unpardonable sin of leaving items out of your order EVERY TIME! I can forgive a mistake but when it is made consistently it is no longer a mistake it is just a lack of attention to detail which results in very poor customer service. read more

Order for pick up a few times a year, convenient to do from the phone. Order is ready on time doing the drive through, the drive through is very convenient. Food is good and made there. Only one time was the sweet and sour sauce forgotten for an order. Sometimes the sauce is separate, sometimes it's on the order. I actually prefer it to be on the side, so the food does not get soggy. Enjoy the Mongolian beef, but lately the rice noodles have been lacking. read more

Really good, really real Chinese food. Some favorites are hot and sour soup, pon pon chicken, any of the vegetable dishes like broccoli and tofu, and the noodles. And just about everything else on the menu. Mary makes everyone feel welcome as soon as they walk in and well-fed and happy when they leave. She is a gem. The food at China Chefs reminds me of the wonderfully delicious and fragrant food I used to get in the night markets of Fujian, China and Taiwan. read more

I went through the drive thru to pick up my order, look in the window & see a tray full of Lo mein sitting on a garbage can! I told them I'd be calling the health dept & drove away! Food is great! 3 stars because I ordered take out: Sesame chicken, chicken lo mein, cream cheese wontons, beef and brocoli, and ham fried rice. I drove all the way there, picked up my order $41, even tipped $5, got home, starting taking my order out of the bag. I found out 5 containers were there, only my $9.50 sesame chicken had been replaced by a single container of white rice. I called, they said the sesame chicken was in the bag, then when I said it wasn't he continued to say it was. Eventually after a long pause on the phone he said if we came back he would give us an order. Easy mistake, all worth the wait. read more

We love this place... but you have to know what to order. The Mongolian Beef is really good, and so are the House Pan Fried Noodles, Fried Dumplings, and Walnut Shrimp. I usually get the "Crisp Veggies in Brown Sauce with Beef." It is always good too. The fried rice is tasty and I love their egg drop soup. The service is awesome-- very fast and very, very friendly. We go here often, and the quality of the food and the service is really pretty amazing. I know it looks like a hole in the wall, but it's worth a try! (I don't recommend the sweet and sour sauce though-- looks like cherry syrup, and kind of tastes like it too. ) read more

Horrible experience with their delivery and service tonight. We have been customers for years and love the food, but may never return after how we were treated tonight. I placed an online delivery order. 1 hour 15 minutes after placing it I hadn't heard from them so I called to check status. After being on hold for 5 minutes they told me they were short drivers and I needed to come and pick it up. And for my inconvenience they would give me a 20% discount. I arrived there 5 minutes later and got in the drive through pick up lane. Immediately a car pulled in behind me. Even though there were only 3 cars in front of me it took 20 minutes to get to the window. During which time I saw a delivery driver come and leave. When I got to the window they knew about the 20% discount for my order but the food was not there. I was told a driver had taken it to my home. Well that was a problem since there was no one left at home to get it. I was given no compensation or possible solution. Just sent away. 20 minutes after I returned home I got a call from the actual driver who was upset I hadn't been there 30 minutes earlier, but he was 3 minutes from my house if I still wanted it. I said I was then home and he brought the food, but offered no discount or apology. This was over 2 hours after the original order. We called to inform the owner, but were hung up on. I am very disappointed at the poor communication, the lack of follow through on promised discount, and the lukewarm nature of the food that was finally delivered. read more

My wife and I just recently moved to South Jordan. We both love fine cuisine, so naturally the first thing we do is try to find good local restaurants. On our way to Walmart we saw this chinese restaurant that was packed. We assumed that it must be good if so many people liked it (you know what assuming gets ya). We passed it many more times and every time the place was packed. One night on our way back from wally world we decided to try it. As we waited in line we were greeted with some of the most delicious smells I have ever smelled in any restaurant. As we finally pulled up to the pick up window (yes this place has a drive-thru and you always have to be a little suspicious of higher end restaurants that have a drive-thru) and received our food both my wife and I started to giggle like little school girls because the food smelled so good. We could hardly wait as we started to tear through the packaging. As we started to eat the sense of utter disappoint crossed our faces. I continued to eat this very under seasoned food mad at myself for spending $35 on this junk. This was like a horrible Christmas day, which I never had, when you have been waiting for this toy that would define you as a person and revolutionize your play time. The outside dimensions look like the box the toy comes in, you can even smell the glorious plastic that it has been made out of only to open it and find out that your mom cleverly wrapped underwear. I do not suggest this place at all. I am still flabbergasted at how many people continue to eat there and have decided not to trust the masses in Utah. read more

We went for Christmas eve dinner, I would have much rather cooked a nice meal at home but my grandmother insisted we go out, and nothing was open. We decided to give this place a shot. First, it was freezing outside, and inside. Every time the door opened a blast of arctic air came in. We all ate in our big jackets and froze the whole entire time. The food came quickly. We ordered BBQ pork, it was gross. The lo mien was ok, the sauce was really thick and kind of odd, it was like a gravy, I've never experienced lo mien with so much sauce, the sweet and sour chicken and sesame chicken tasted the exact same. The service was great, they were quick and friendly and very clean, the food was just meh. Not great. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and I grew up in Seattle and they have excellent Chinese food, but I've had way better in Utah so I know it can be done. We wont be going back, we'll go back to the fortune cookie down the road. read more

This place advertised FREE delivery within a 5 mile radius with a 30 - 60 estimated delivery time. I live 4.2 miles away... I put in my order at 7:57PM, they call me at 8:19 to verify I want delivery as the "paper ripped" and they couldn't tell. 9:08 our food is still not here so I call and the lady proceeds to tell me that my order has not even gone out and makes some excuse that her driver is not back but she will deliver it and then suggests I come get it. I say no and ask for a discount for the delay, she says that she can discount 20% if I want to come get. I explain that I want it delivered and THEN she says she can only give me 10% as my home is far away. I tell her never mind that she can just credit my card. She actually has the nerve to tel me but your food is just ready and she can't or won't credit me. I was in complete shock and explained what poor customer service she is offering. She then again suggests I come get it as my home is SO far away and will take far more time for her to bring it to me... And then tries to hurry me off the phone saying she needs to go get our order ready..UNBELIEVABLE!!!! We were pretty darn hungry by this point and just went to get the order but we will not be ordering from them again no matter how the food tastes... read more
