Not bad, not great. The bar for Chinese food is generally pretty low for me, as it's getting to the point these days where these places almost provide a universal service rather than a unique dining experience. I've had some truly sensational Chinese takeout, but often places like these are just barely "passable". I may try this place again, but more likely I will seek a better place next time. We got the Sesame Chicken and General Tso's, and we both agreed that the Sesame was much better tasting (but had a weird bright fluorescent orange color). The Tso's kind of tasted like something you would get at a gas station (if you're brave). Overall, our biggest gripe was that the sauces were far too thick and cloying, and looked a little too heavy on the colors to be natural. My favorite part about the meal was the Cream Cheese Wontons, which contain nothing but warm cream cheese. Often they have imitation crab or hunks of onions, but these ones are just a fried shell with a creamy center. For some reason they were really addicting, and I could see myself returning just for another order of them. However, the sweet and sour sauce for dipping was pretty awful, so much so that I wouldn't ever order the Sweet and Sour entree. This place will do in a pinch, but I'm still searching for a better staple Chinese restaurant that I can eat at regularly. read more

We like it here. We try to go 3-4 times a month. The people are really nice (truly), the portions are big, the flavor is good. They serve their Chinese version of "chips and salsa" which is fun. When they are busy the service is slower than one would like but they are just such nice people doing such a good job that you don't care. We're lucky to live so close. read more

There are so many things to like about this little Chinese restaurant, it's hard not to like it. The food; all and all decent for price point and speed of service. The menu is pretty much common for restaurants of like quality. The walnut shrimp is by far the best entrée I have sampled here, with the egg foo young a decent second. The restaurant offers take out, delivery and dine in. With the limited delivery services in south Jordan, it's nice to have a decent restaurant to order from. The take out service includes a drive through, which is nice. Dining in the restaurant is pleasurable and clean. Service is fast and nice. The staff makes you feel as if you are dining in their home, which is a great experience. We were first going to avoid this place because of the depressing exterior- then again the depressing interior. We decided the quality would be in the food.. so many rave reviews.. the food has to be why people come.. right?! honestly- who eats here?? First you get stale crisps w red sugar syrup.. THEN thick grease 'hot and sour soup'.. microwaved egg rolls and awful rice.. can't say fried - brown flavorless with big spam chunks- gross. Had a bite of general tsau chicken - don't get me started.. was it chicken? Husband had another slime covered dish claiming to be chicken (Szechuan).. we just paid and left- we cannot say a positive thing about our experience. They have many pluses for take out Chinese food. Everything was well wrapped so it wasn't leaking all over the car on the way home . The egg rolls weren't greasy. . We ordered fried rice with one meal that was good, but some flavor was missing? Scallions? Food was still fairly warm. . I was excited they had Char Shu (barbecued pork). The amount they give in the appetizer would be worth the money, if it hadn't either been overcooked or reheated from another day. Really dry and chewy and cut too thick. That was so disappointing. We made our own Ramen Soup, sliced the Char Shu thinner and the broth made it easier to eat. Ended up not wasting all of that pork. Overall , it was better than most of the Chinese food we have tried since the Pandemic started. Next time I will order an entree with more vegetables. And have the fried rice instead of white. read more

This place came highly recommended, particularly for delivery/take out., but the service was awful and the food mediocre, at best. We ordered delivery early on a Saturday night and expected it would be about an hour, though we were quoted 40 min. An hour and a half later, no food. We called to check on our order and were told it was "out for delivery." The food finally showed up 40 min later. A total wait time of over two hours!!! China Chefs is located less than fifteen minutes away, even in traffic. The food was mediocre and it looked like they'd scraped the bottom of the pan to come up with a full serving. Our sweet and sour pork ended up being mostly sweet and sour chicken and shrimp. The pork that was in the dish was so tough and chewy it was inedible. The sesame chicken is better at a place like Panda Express. The ham fried rice and cream cheese wontons were the only items we received that didn't appear to be messed up. read more

My first time here and not very impressed. The food is average. I got the General Tso shrimp dinner and the shrimps were tiny, cut in half and then dipped in a crap ton of breading. Needless to say I won't be going back, especially since there's a super good place on south Jordan parkway that also has a drive thru that actually uses the entire shrimp. read more

We made the China Chefs discovery while in "new to Riverton and looking for acceptable Chinese take-out" mode. It's been our go-to take-out joint for about three years now. It's in a great west 126th South location; but is somewhat invisible when you're powering through the lights on Bangerter. I'm compelled to begin with my favorite thing about China Chefs - take out DRIVE-THROUGH PICKUP WINDOW. Considering how much I enjoy their food, this is huge. You call in your order, they give you an approximate pick up time, and you simply drive through and collect your treasures. It's positively magical. Oh, sure, you'll get the occasional moron who chooses to place an order through the take-out window, getting stuck in line, and holding up all the pick-ups behind them. It would be so great if restaurant management started asking these geniuses to pull off queue and come back in 20 minutes. But they're SO nice here, chances are that won't ever happen. Which brings me to my second favorite thing about China Chefs - the owner/manager, and the extraordinary customer service practiced here. I've rarely experienced the genuinely friendly service like we receive at China Chefs. Regardless of how crazy-busy it is inside, at the drive-up window we have always been treated like the only customers they have. The owner/manager typically works the window, and she is fabulous. She always pauses to chat; asking how our day is going, and giving her thumbs up on what we've ordered (I think she gets a kick out of the fact that we always order "very spicy" and because of our longevity she knows exactly how to do it up right for us). Let me take this opportunity to state that we've never eaten inside the restaurant, so I can't comment on how the wait staff service is. However, believing that an owner/manager sets a cardinal example, I would assume that it's also very good. I realize that this is an awful lot of banter about the place before even delving into the subject of their food. However, at China Chefs, the food is also a bright star. I'm not sure what "authentic" Chinese food is supposed to taste like, so I certainly can't say this is or isn't it. But I know what tastes good, and this does! Whether it's Americanized or not, I don't really care, because it's delicious. Having tried just about everything on the menu, we've developed a special fondness for the following entrees: - Kung Pao/Mandarin, Szechuan, and Hunan style chicken (xtra spicy) - Dragon & Phoenix (chicken and shrimp with veggies) - Double Delight Shrimp (shrimp two ways) - Lemon Chicken (great sauce!) Regarding apps, they offer a very standard set with no solid stand-outs. All of them we've tried have been very good. Their house special soup is WonTon, and it is quite tasty. But I'm a big fan of their Hot & Sour - not a great deal different than I've had it elsewhere, but somehow better...? I usually get a large order of H&S soup to have in the fridge for the inevitable challenges coming in the week ahead. Soup of the Gods. Although I've never taken advantage of it, I absolutely LOVE that they offer a Root Beer Float on their dessert menu. Not sure why, but this just endears this place further in my little pea-pickin heart. The only disappointment for me is their lo-mein. The noodles are gluey and tasteless. Just not right. China Chefs is open 7 days a week - this means even Sunday, Utahns! If you're looking for some very tasty Chimerican, give them a try. I'm betting you'll be satisfied. read more

This was better than we expected. It reminded me of my childhood when the only "exotic" option for food in my small town was a little Chinese place. It was a rare and delightful treat to eat out back then, and this food was as good as I remember that tasting. The hot and sour soup was very good, with big chunks of mushrooms, tofu, and shreds of meat. I'd eat it for its own sake, not just as the appetizer to a meal. We tried four entrees at our table. The lo mein and cashew chicken were our favorites. The pon pon chicken and sweet and sour chicken were okay, but pretty generic. The service was very friendly and the food arrived quickly. The restaurant was empty when we arrived at 5:00 but it filled up pretty quickly thereafter. Times have changed since my childhood and when we crave Asian food we usually choose Japanese, Thai, or Vietnamese, but it's great to have an old school Chinese place to throw in the mix. I've eaten here quite a few times and every time I want to take a photo of the food I forget because it's Chinese food and it's better served to be eaten than photographed. I'm a creature of habit here and every time I've eaten here it's been the lunch or dinner combo for general tso's chicken with ham fried rice. SO MUCH FOOD!!!!It also helps that it tastes good, not great. This is the perfect place to go if you need dinner and possibly leftover for lunch the next day. I love the portions, but wished the chicken wasn't as soaked in the sauce because it makes it soggy from time to time. That alone won't stop me from eating here again, but it's just one of my gripes. I got disconnected twice then finally talked to the manager. She informed me that it was out of her control. They got busy at about 3:00. I told her that doesn't matter since I ordered it at 11:00.
