If you are looking for some cheap Chinese food for a little under $10. China City on Princess Road sure did their thing,I went in and got the lunch special the sweet and sour chicken. The lunch special comes with your meal and a soda at no additional cost. Inside the restaurant was really clean and they had plenty of seats. The customer service was excellent the lady is super friendly and welcoming. My only complaint is that the chicken to batter ratio was off I wanted more protein than batter.

Tried to feed the economy during all this; ordered BEEF & BROCCOLI, A SWEET TEA, and BEEF Teriyaki sticks. I received chicken and broccoli, burnt black CHICKEN Teriyaki sticks no sweet tea and when I called to rectify I was told to return the burnt food during a pandemic which they can gladly have back but I don't feel like investing any more money into a business that can't own a mistake, they made. Be mindful as stated no chicken was even ordered..... The woman was rude hung up and told me she was to busy. Even though I often purchase from them. Never again. They may be trying to discard old food. I literally have the service on video, and the woman on video. They are discarding old food. Do not order; and I excepted way better considering the tips I provide. Lost this customer. For good. The delivery guy literally told me the chicken and broccoli was beef..... he didn't even have the tea on the first delivery attempt. Then was only refund $21 instead of the order total of 21.55 paid. By the time they got here no other other delivery options available. Oh and he took the entire order back... better don't hope you don't get the hand-me-downs wtw!!!

My husband and I ordered the general tso and szechuan chicken combos and they were ok. The szechuan chicken was very brightly orange as you can see and the general tso was lightly battered. It didn't have that crisp crunch to their breading like I've had at other locations. I liked their pork fried rice. Overall, an ok place that we are glad we tried but we might keep searching for our new go-to in the future

Lunch specials... $5.35 with a can of soda!

As my Yelp elite friend, Kris D. said, this place is consistent! And tasty! Based on the tons of times my parents have ordered and had their food delivered, and the few times I've done pick up, this place is my favorite for fast Chinese. The selection is your usual...these are my favorites: Garlic Shrimp Sweet & Sour Chicken Gen Tso Chicken (of course) Shrimp & Mushrooms (brown sauce) Their prices? Average. But their lunch specials are so cheap and great! Their fries are also just so unhealthy and extra delicious! I always say that the best fries are from Mexican joints, but especially Chinese ones! Get 'em. YOLO. I'm sure I will continue to eat their food, because their # is pretty much on speed dial @ my parents house, which is 5 mins from here.

Cool fortunes I got at China City.

** Consistent! ** **Tasty!** **Fortune Cookie??!** Oh man, how long has this place been open? I have ordered food from China City for over 15 years myself. (My kids were 3 and 4 years old when I first took a picture of them chowing down on some China City food, they are now approaching 18 and about to move out. We ordered again 2 days ago and remembered back to memories of eating Chinese food over the years, which they love. --Oh, on the kids, they are over 6-foot tall now, I am only 5 foot 9... Was it the Chinese Food? ! Okay, let me get out of the personal story and into the review. Main thing about China City is the consistency of the quality of their food. It is always prepared the same, has not changed in 15 yrs. We order with 100% confidence we will get a GOOD meal! (Same cannot be said for some places). Food is great, Service in-store is great. The Delivery driver is great too. He has also been working there over a decade. -- If you live near this area off Princess Anne + Independence Rd in Virginia Beach, drop in + try them out! PS. The fortune cookie I got this last time was funny. It said on it only: "Relationships". -- I guess even Confucius has no advice he is willing to offer on that subject...

    Chicken and broccoli

Typical fast food Chinese spot. It's in a fairly decent and safe shopping center. Look for Onelife Fitness. It's a few doors down. I didn't get the, "Oh crap. This place is nasty." feeling but it wasn't super clean either. Ya know, the former being an indication of where surprisingly good food comes from. Not too shabby of a serving for $6. Lunch special garlic chicken served with broccoli was generous in size. While chicken and broccoli appears to be a healthy dish there was just too much flavor to not think that either sugar or MSG was used in making this dish. It's Chinese fast food. What can you really expect? Then I walked next door and worked most of it off at the gym.

Time i called n order, called 2 find out where my food was. ANOTHER 30 min later I called 2 check again =nearly 2 HOURS!
    Shelly C.

No, no, no.....just No! Ordered on Wednesday evening at 6pm, was told 35 min till delivery... I waited an hour - called, they said just a couple more minutes. Waited another half an hour, called.... Guy finally showed up...ON A SCOOTER... So nearly TWO HOURS for delivery less than 2 miles away. Our food was nasty... Broken sweet and sour sauce cup, busted chicken container, soggy ripped bag... Just a nasty nasty RED staining mess! All over my hands and counter... Nasty. They called me back to check if the delivery guy made it... I said yes and I that i was upset. She offered me $10 of my next order... Uh...NO! I told her thank you however I would NEVER EVER Repeat this mistake. As far as the food..... Greasy crab Rangoon's, mostly just breading on the sweet N sour chicken, if you can get past the old grease taste of the Rangoon's I think the cream cheese mixture inside would be tasty. the chicken mai fun was pretty good.. Fresh crunchy veggies, fresh noodles etc. But seriously Run people, just RUUUNNNNN!!!!!!

    General Tso Chicken separate sauce.

I called earlier in the day to see if we should make reservations, but was told they wouldn't be busy. Well, we got there and while they had plenty of tables at 6:30PM, but 7PM that place was completely packed! They had lots of carry-out orders happening too, which all made the kitchen a little slow. We ordered many dishes to share and all started coming out one after another over the next hour until the beef & broccoli was the last dish. Again, I attribute the slowness of the kitchen to their being so busy. At least all the food that came out was very fresh, tasty, and piping hot. Some interesting items that were quite good were their potatoes and green peppers. This dish is something I've never seen before but was pretty good! It features long julienned potatoes that they clearly soak in water before wok'ing with the peppers - that was all that was in the dish, but it was still tasty. Their Fish in Chili Oil & Bean Sprouts was really tasty and fresh! The fish is flounder. Their spicy wontons in chili oil were very popular with our group too. Service here was friendly too and helpful. Like I said, we tried many items, so many more than I just outlined and all were nice. I'd definitely return for a slightly more elevated Chinese menu from what you get at the typical Chinese-American joints.

I like that it's spaced out and you're not over crowded. Our waitress Catherine was awesome. She's always nice, friendly, and patient. She gave us the menu specials and allowed us to chat a bit before ordering. My friend ordered the cheese wontons, general tso chicken and dan dan noodles. The wontons were really good. I like that they were sweet and crispy. I'd get them again for sure. The dan dan noodles were spicy and flavorful. My sister and I got the Mongolian chicken, storm fish, and eggplant. This is my go to meal that I normally get, it's always tasty. The storm fish normally comes with a spicy mayo sauce, but they didn't have it this time. The fish was still ok, but the sauce is what gives it flavor, so it was a little bland this time. The eggplant and Mongolian chicken were yum, hot, and fresh!! I definitely recommend this restaurant to alot of people. I just think it's more elevated compared to regular Chinese takeout food. They have many delicious options on the menu, and again the vibe is chill. If you're planning a group dinner this is definitely a great option. The last experience we had was absolutely amazing. From the service to the food. All around great…read moreexperience. This time, not so much. My family and I (5 people) came in to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday dinner and there was nobody but us in the restaurant. The first thing I noticed was the server. He was dressed in jeans, hooded sweatshirt, a beanie and had a toothpick in his mouth. A bit out of the ordinary but to each their own for proper attire in what I would deem a upscale-ish restaurant. The real issue was him taking our order, seemed rushed. As we were deliberating and figuring out what we wanted. My girlfriend was talking about the scallion bubble pancakes. He came over and said, "I overheard you said the scallion pancakes, did you want to put in that order?" My girlfriend said no, she wanted everything to come out all at once. He said ok and then we walked off. Next thing we know, the pancakes came out WAY ahead of everything else we ordered. By like 15 minutes at least. When my girlfriend said something about it, the waiter said, he said outright " I never heard her say not to order them, she never said anything, and they are out right now". No apology, no I'll go ahead and fix that...nothing. When we we on the way out, we talked to the owner about the experience and the only thing he mentioned was that, the server was new and it's hard to find good employees because they revolve so quickly. Which wasn't really an answer at all. It was definitely a 180 degree turn from the first experience we had here which was 5 stars all around. I think given the experience, we unfortunately won't be coming back

That style of Chinese food is one of my favs. So, when visiting the area I came in for lunch on a Monday. Getting there around 1PM they had several table sat, which I was surprised to see, yet very happy to see too! It meant that there are others who value really good, Authentic Chinese food and flavors. I started with their cucumbers and asked for them to be spicy. Once they arrived, I have to say I was disappointed as they were fresh, but there was hardly any flavor to them at all and the "sauce" in the bottom of the dish wasn't actually tossed in with the cucumbers, rather they were just sat on top and the flavors were on the bland side. They also just tossed a bunch of whole cilantro on top, rather than pulling the leaves and chopping those and mixing them in, which is how the dish should have been served. Next up was their egg drop soup... yeah, it's an American-Chinese item, but it's a fav of mine and it came with the lunch item I ordered, which is the only reason I got it. It tasted great! I could tasted the freshness of all ingredients in it, but the fried wonton pieces that came with it were beyond horribly stale - NASTY! Those should never be served! My local, Fredericksburg Peter Changs (before they recently closed down) served amazing, fresh fried noodles to accompany soup. This is a management/chef issue that needs to be corrected with this location!! Next was the spicy chicken with peppers and onions... They were good, but far from spicy and definitely was missing some umami flavor I'm used to in this dish, from when I get it at other locations. I also tried their beef with three peppers... It came out looking not very authentic, rather quite "American" as it was saucy and resembling the beef from beef & broccoli. Flavor was ok, but far from what I've had with this particular dish in the past, which was very disappointing. Overall - service was nice. The food was too Americanized, which I suspect was why I saw so many people in there. Reviews for any authentic (Pakistani, Chinese, etc) place are typically mid-low level as most who use these review/social media sites are clueless as to what the food is actually supposed to taste like. I'll give this place a 3, but for authenticity it deserves a 2. Would I return, nope, there are too many places to try in the VA Beach area.
