I used to LOVE coming here... I would come in for lunch or pick up for dinner, they have great selection of food and the portions and price were worth it. However, seems like they have not cared about their quality for a little while. I have ordered food in the restaurant or through the drive thru and all experiences have been horrible; from seeing someone in the kitchen staff picking their nose and proceed to handle food, rubbing/wiping their sweat with their hand and proceeding to handle food or touching money and proceeding to handle food/drinks and finding hair in my food. I have taken a break and recently decided to give the another shot, which didn't pay off... Still witnessed the same behavior and yet again have found hair in my food. I have officially given up on China East and will not and do not recommend to anyone. read more

I've enjoyed this restaurant for over 10 years. Food tasted great, prices were fair, and service was excellent. The last two visits were ridiculous. My orders were changed from Ala Carte to lunch specials loaded with white rice and very small portions of the actual of the entree. I chucked it up to a one off, I did pay for Ala Carte, though, and was disappointed. The flavor of the meals were quite diminished. My last purchase I spent $111.00 on 7 Ala Carte orders and pot stickers. I received a full box of9 food which was much larger than my order, or so it seemed at the time. I was assured it was the correct order. There was no way to check the contents in the car. When I got home, I found 5 boxes of plain white rice. Two Ala Carte items were missing. A mystery dish of chicken and broccoli that was perhaps a substitute? The quality was extremely diminished, the mystery dish was refused by three adults, and my dogs refused to eat it, which is not a compliment. I don't know what happened here, but spending money to eat take out is usually a treat and relief from heating up the house in these summer afternoons. To have spent over $165.00 on two orders to receive significantly diminished quality food. (my dogs refused), completely BOTCHED orders on two separate visits is unacceptable. I never complained to the restaurant simply because I didn't want my missing entrees the quality of what I would have received wasn't worth the effort. 1st time here Bathrooms are outside on side of building. Waitress was very curt not welcoming at all , Fried Rice was Bland, Broccoli had a fishy taste , Teriyaki Chicken was Good , Egg roll was good as well as the paper wrapped chicken and Hot and sour soup. I rarely leave negative reviews but this needs to be said. I visited the drive-thru today same as I have many times and this time the older lady overcharged me. When I went inside to ask her about it, she spoke quite rudely to me and said she rounded it up to an even amount then grabbed my bag of items and literally threw handfuls of fortune cookies and sauces and shoved it back to me, again, extremely rude and unprofessional. She was obviously angry that I called her on her overcharging me and her response was to be very rude. We have been getting to go orders from here for at least seven years. Two members of my family are anaphylactic to shellfish, specifically shrimp. We placed our order tonight for a combination chow mein, no shrimp, combination fried rice, no shrimp. Drove a half an hour back out to Dayton Nevada, it's a very good thing I decided to try the chow mein before my family ate it or I would have two dead family members family. We called immediately and were told by a young female that no owner or manager was in and that they would call back tomorrow when they got in at 11. Upon hanging up my husband decided to have the rice along with some other items we ordered, only to scoop out a huge tramp from the rice as well. Thank God my daughter had steamed rice or she would have been dead because we did not even see it until she was done eating her rice! Another plate ruin for my family. We called back again and this time got a grumpy Asian man on the phone. He hung up on us once before we even told him why we were calling. We called back, he said the ticket says no shrimp yet they put shrimp in it. He said he wanted us to drive from Dayton Nevada back into Carson City to get new chow mein and rice. 45 minute round trip, no thank you! When my husband demanded that the owner call him back tonight and that he wanted a full refund, he was hung up on again. So the very best way to counteract this is to advise the public that they cannot manage to not cross contaminate, they cannot be polite and discuss their deadly errors without hanging up on people, and evidently the owner doesn't give a shit about his business if he's not there at 5:30 at night during rush hour for dinner. I think a call is in order to the health department as well as our attorney as I could have two dead family members right now, we were very lucky! read more

This place is a gem tucked away in Carson City! The staff is super friendly and right on top of servicing your water glass. For around $7 you get a full plate of food that is certainly leaving no one in want of seconds. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and can't wait to go back and try it again! We ordered to go and picked up in the restaurant. The staff was nice and food was quick. The restaurant itself was small. They had indoor and outdoor seating, and it reminded me more of a fast food joint than a sit down restaurant. We got 2 orders of the chicken chow mein and it was just okay. The flavor was lacking, so we ended up adding a ton of soy sauce. The chicken was seasoned, which was different and nice, but I felt like they may have used too much fish sauce or something because it did have a bit of a fishy flavor. Overall, okay. I always loved coming here for years. I understand pandemic burnout is a big thing but being rude every time we call for a to go order isn't okay. Being rushed on what I want with my order, then going to go pick it up, asking what the extensive order is, then proceeding to demand a phone number isn't the top notch customer service I knew from this place. On top of that, the presentation has gotten lazy and our food containers were leaking horribly and everything was a sticky mess. Food was super delicious until I found some type of stick in my mouth with the cashew chicken dinner special. I want to give this place another chance but the poor customer service alone has made me give up on this place. Really a 3.5. Got hungry at the DMV so I yelped what I could grab to eat quickly and found this place. Someone mentioned in a review that it was slightly hidden by a lot of trees and that helped me locate it quickly. The worst place I have EVER been. I asked for some hot sauce for my soup and they told me they charge for that, what the heck? The young girl that works there during the week on days is about as nice as a shark......FIRE THAT ONE. Their food sucks and is a shame to Chinese food in general. I go to China East when I'm in a pinch and don't feel like driving far from my home. While the staff is generally friendly, they are unaccommodating for simple things like asking for extra spicy or extra veggies- nope won't do it. Instead they'll give you "hot sauce" on the side that doesn't even match the flavor of your food. Awful. The food is inconsistent. One time I order and the food is generally decent, other times it's really bland. Overall it's just hit or miss and not worth the money. Shrimp for Chow Mein is usually over cooked and rubbery. Fried rice is bland- you can't taste any sesame oil or soy sauce at all. Anything labeled as "spicy" is laughable. If you're looking for consistently good Chinese- try Bamboo Garden or Lily's China Bistro instead, definitely worth the extra 5 minutes in the car! read more

Upon arrival the dining room was busy and it was nice weather, so I sat at a table outside. The pork fried rice and scrambled egg were almost perfect! (A touch too much oil for my taste.) China East is always on the radar for when we want cheap but good Chinese take-away. This past visit we got shrimp with mushrooms, sweet and sour chicken, both which came with fried rice, chow mein, and egg drop soup (sweet and sour is also available), and a egg roll. I also ordered some ribs. The soup base wasn't very flavorful, but it had nice chunks of tofu, bamboos and julienned carrots. My shrimp with mushroom was great, just enough mushrooms and shrimp balanced out with snow peas and carrots. The fried rice and chow mein unfortunately were lackluster in flavor and needed help from some soy sauce. The other order of sweet and sour chicken was tasty as well.
