I was on my way home from the airport. I got hungry and wanted the option for non-fast food food. It was around 1PM! Douglasville was the nearest exit before the long portion of the way home. There are two Chinese spots in the same area here (China Express & another one that starts with an H). I went to the one that starts with an H first and ultimately decided to come to China Express because the food would be out quicker based on other reviews. They both have the same menu items. I did not know that the special was $1.75 for a scoop until I walked up to the building. I was seriously re-thinking my decision! This is my first time trying Chinese so cheap. I also did not expect much for this price. I took the chance... I ordered 3 items: teriyaki chicken (9/10), fried rice (6/10), and bourbon chicken(1/10). The bourbon chicken tasted old. The teriyaki was fresh & flavorful. The fried rice also tasted fresh. This easily would have been 2 stars if none of the meat they served tasted good. If I had to go again, I would only order meats that look fresh (steam from the heat of the pan, glazed w/ sauce, etc) I went to the front bc I thought I had to order from the front however the lady did not direct me to the line first. She was selling the regular menu they had. I did not have time to wait so I noticed that everyone was going to the left hand side where the food was served cafeteria style. I did the same. The lady behind the glass asked me what I wanted and put generous scoops of the items I said & pointed to. the price was definitely as expected! 3 items was totaling around $5/$6 dollars. I was in & out the door for my first visit in less than 10 minutes. The interior has seating and decent cleanliness. No Dust/grime/etc can be seen at first glance. It's just an older place so the restaurant needs to remodel soon to keep with the aesthetics! This place would be 4 stars if it looked better! In short: order in person, go to the lady whose scooping the portions (not the lady at the register), after your takeout has been marked with the # of items you asked for pay at the register. For $1.75 per item, you cannot beat it and it's fast food prices for decent quality and little to no wait time. read more

There is really nothing I can say good about this place except for, well I never have to go back. EVER! It is very deceiving because it's always so crowded but unless I picked the 4 worse meats on the menu then this place is not my cup of tea. Now their sign says you pay $1 per scoop from the bar, so that may be why it's usually crowded. The good points were that it was really nice and clean. There are tables for 16 people to eat inside. There where two kids running around playing. I assume their parents work here or maybe own the place. They were a little loud. But hey, they are kids. I enjoyed the Lo Mein, but the Teriyaki and Sesame Chicken that were on the bar were way too sweet. The Lemon Pepper Wings and the Braised wings that are prepared as you place your order were also sweet. There were two other customers that commented about the food on the bar was to sweet that evening. I will assume from those statements that the food is not always this sweet. My room mate tried this place last week but he got regular fried wings and said they were okay. But when I offered him my two boxes of food, he declined. This place is the absolute worse.. after standing in line for 14 minutes to be served, I finally tell the young lady behind the counter that I want vegetable fried rice, and broccoli with carrots as I do not eat meat. I've never had a problem with this in the past, however today she writes a 3 on the box and I explain to the cashier there are only two items in the box. They refused to charge me for the two items which is was I requested because she put more rice in the box than normal. Needless to say, everyone at WellStar will hear about this and my family members that recommended this place. Yuck! I was really craving Chinese food and this place was close. It's not really Chinese food it's more like those places in the mall that lure you in with the free sample. They have a dollar menu but it's very cheesy! No fountain drinks Only bottles. Lunch combo unlike most Chinese restaurant does not come with a drink. I actually like the food there. It's really good and fresh as long as you don't wait until the end of the night when they aren't making fresh food. My family eats there at least 2 times a month and I've never experienced the food being too sweet or bland and we've never gotten sick. My only complaints are that they dump the fresh food on top of the food already on the bar. Anyone with any restaurant experience knows that is a no-no. They also don't de-vein the mexican shrimp that's on the dollar scoop bar (not sure about the shrimp dishes you order off the menu) and they can be very very rude. I tried to order brocoli and shrimp with garlic sauce and they said they only make either shrimp with garlic sauce or brocoli with garlic sauce. They wouldn't combine them which to me was crazy. The food isn't the best as far as Chinese food goes. Their major draw is one dollar per scoop buffet. This evening my daughter and her father went to pick up a carry out order. We had two orders of four scoops which should have been $8.42 with tax but they charged $11.66. When I questioned the discrepancy my daughter's father said while they were being served a woman came in requesting a refund because she had been over charged. Thinking the prices had gone up I called verify them. The woman on the phone confirmed still $1 a scoop which meant we were also overcharged. I explained the situation and my order. She asked what time was on the receipt so she could check the video. I told her 18:57:21 or 6:57 pm. She started screaming at me and hung up. I called back she screamed that she had six customers in front of her I asked if there was someone else I could speak to she hung up again. By this time it was 9:07, they close at 9:00pm. English isn't her native language but she clearly understood me and asked specific questions to clarify my answers. The problem had nothing to do with language but poor customer service. I'm not going to stress over that small an over charge but I don't want to be yelled at over someone else's mistake especially when you took more from me than you were entitled to. read more
