We are fans of another local Chinese take out place, but they were closed and my daughter was in town for the holiday. We decided to try this place again after trying it when it first opened. I like the option of steamed dishes, but the sauces and mei fun have way too much MSG. It made my heart race so badly I couldn't eat the leftovers. The biggest disappointment is their egg foo young. I've never had this without brown gravy. I called to ask if they specifically had it because their photos didn't show they had any sauce and I didn't want to waste my money buying it. The woman on the phone confirmed it came with "sauce." It came dry with a side of rice and no brown gravy. I had ate here a few days ago and the food was pretty bomb. But I had really bad diarrhea afterwards, it was not fun since that was the first time experiencing that... One of my friend started working here so that's how I got interested in eating here. I was horrified after what they told me they experienced. The owner seems kinda unprofessional, she don't treat her workers well as my friend wasn't paid which they are LEGALLY required. My friend was in the restaurant as they getting trained during work hour, it was hands on too, and the training was necessary for their position. They were not compensated during those training days. Beside this the restaurant is very unhygienic as the owner's son was running around the restaurant BARE-FEET, probably even in the kitchen. The daughter doesn't wash her hands which is VERY AND MUST CERTAINLY UNHYGIENIC and probably breaks a FDA rule. For me the atmosphere was pretty decent though, and kinda awkward but whatever. With every visit this place just disappoints me more. I think on my first visit, I was so pleased with the Henry's Dumplings and so happy to have found a decent Chinese restaurant (or so I thought) in the area, that I judged too hastily. The conclusion I have come to, is that about the only thing worth getting here are the Henry's Dumplings. They are tasty. But with so many misses on just about everything else, I'm no longer going to subject myself to further experimentation here. My last order of Bean Curd Family Style closed the door for me on this place. Bean Curd, or tofu as it's more commonly known, has basically no flavor of it's own. And for that reason, this dish is traditionally prepared by frying the tofu first, which gives it a great flavor and texture, the outside beine almost crispy when done right, and then quickly stir frying it with the other ingredients. But here, they are apparently too lazy to do it in two steps. What they do instead is stir fry the vegetables along with chunks of raw tofu. There's nothing, per se, wrong with raw or fresh tofu, other than the fact that it's bland and too soft for a stir fried dish. In fact, in some dishes it works, like Korean Soondubu Jjigae, where it takes on other flavors, but not so in this case. They should know this, but either don't know, or prefer taking short cuts. If this was the first dish with problems, I'd write it off as a bad night, but ever since my first visit, I've been making excuses for them. Ordered the coconut shrimp and Henrys dumplings . The dumplings were good.The coconut shrimp was awful .I had it before and it was delicious .This time it was cooked like for 9 hours ! The batter was hard and the shrimp was rubber. Not to mention they took very long for Chinese food standards. On the fence about ordering again . Having recently moved into this area, I needed to find a Chinese place that was both close by and decent. China Express fits both these requirements, and I've placed more than a few orders for food here in the past weeks. The good: This place is exceptionally clean. Normally, Chinese restaurants tend to be laden with greased-up walls and char marks on the kitchen, but here you're treated to a huge open-view kitchen with stainless appliances and freshly mopped floors. The food is pretty decent as well, and is probably one of the better places in the 08723 side of Brick. As others have mentioned, the dumplings are fantastic; they come with a side of homemade dipping sauce and are cooked absolutely perfectly. In addition, the Egg Foo Young was excellent as well, and also came with a side of a very obviously homemade brown sauce with veggies in it. The 'meh': Price is kind of steep for food here. Lunch specials are over $6.25 (most places in the area are 5 to 5.50), and the dinner combo platters are generally over $12, even for simpler things like the aforementioned Egg Foo Young. On the flipside, the portions are huge for the combos, easily spanning 2 or even 3 meal's worth, so at least you get a lot for your money. Still, I'd prefer paying less and not having to eat the same thing 2-3 days out of the week. Call ahead if you plan on coming here, too - it takes a good amount of time for some dishes to be prepared (duck apparently takes ~35 mins?). This place was recommended to me by a coworker. I am glad I asked. I am pretty picky about my Chinese food. Most of them have chewy little pieces of chicken. I ordered the general tso's lunch special. They ask if you want white meat or dark meat. I have never had the option. When I picked it up the place looked very clean and didn't stink like most places. The chicken was so good! They were large pieces and great quality. The sauce was so flavorful. Even my egg roll tasted better than other Chinese. They make their own duck sauce and crispy noodles which were outta this world. They should sell that sauce by the gallon. Quality choice for Chinese food in Brick. The specials are typically very good, if not a bit pricey. Had been disappointed by the lack of chicken in the General Tso's in the past but I don't eat fried foods anymore. Probably the second best Chinese restaurant in the area. Edit: The most recent order I had consisted of a wonton soup which had the most overcooked wontons I've ever tasted... The soup was frankly awful last time. Egg rolls are nonetheless very good, and the entree itself utilized fairly high quality meats and fish although I feel much of the special menu is a few dollars overpriced. The lobster included in some of the specials is probably one of the better quality from a Chinese restaurant of this caliber. The young chow rice was also well-made and had plenty of chicken, pork, shrimp, and eggs. I really love this place. It's one of the places my family knows that only i like to go to. I mean, My mom and dad and my brother will eat there, but they don't like it as a dinner choice a lot. I always am exited to go here first chance i get. You enter to tables, A Snapple fridge, a freindly Budda statue on the counter (Make sure to give him pennies when you enter!) and best of all, You can SEE INSIDE the kitchen clear as day to watch them cook to your heart's content. The tables are only for sitting, not for eating though. For delivery or to pick-up, This place never fails to impress. Just placed an order today for delivery... Small order 3 combos. Was told 45 min for delivery which is ok until we climb to near 2 hours. I called twice, first time I was told it is out and should be there momentarily... Twenty minutes later I ask again and the poor girl assigned to deal with angry customers tells me the delivery is still out and will be there shortly. Here we are 20 minutes later and the manager Tom tells me it's being bagged up and will leave in 30 SECONDS. I told Tom to hold it and I'll pick it up after Being lied to twice.... Guess what.... First time ordering from here and I will be ordering from here again. So, I figured I would just get two things and see how they come out. I got an order of crab rangoons and vegetable pad Thai. When I grabbed the pad Thai out of the bag that was delivered to me by a very friendly driver, the first thing I said was wow. The portion is huge for $10 and the amount of fresh veggies and the limes and the cilantro on top was beautiful looking. The taste is amazing it's a little spicy but delicious and crab rangoons are creamy and not greasy at all. They come with this red dipping sauce. Delicious. Next time, I'm ordering so much more!
