In full disclosure my wife, granddaughter and I did not eat here. The outside of the place was a perfect representation of the inside: shabby, cluttered, dirty, and as unappealing as it could possibly be - including the dirty soiled and streaked windows. "Eat in" is a misnomer with 2 beat up tables and rickety chairs from the dump. There is no service; only a walk up order window where folks lined up to collect their take out meals. We stayed just about as long as it has taken you to read this as we could not imagine safe, well prepared food. read more

It's your typical inexpensive American Chinese food. On a weekend night be prepared for a long wait, regardless of what they tell you on the phone it's going to be 45 minutes to over an hour easily. Quality is fairly consistent though oily and watery at times. Meh, you get what you'd expect for the price I guess. read more

I stopped at China Garden for dinner after getting out of work. This Chinese restaurant is located in the BF downtown section, offering dine-in or takeout. They offer lunch and dinner combination plates and a small Chinese buffet, which does not offer much and looked very dry out and the food had been sitting out a while. The buffet had the basics including lo mein, rice, beef & broccoli, soups, and dessert. They had a can of pineapple open at the buffet. The buffet is $5.95 (lunch), $8.45 (dinner) and Sunday ($7.99). Takeout buffet is by the pound at $4.19 (lunch) and $4.99 (dinner). So, I was definitely getting a combination plate made to order. I got the C20: Beef Lo Mein with Pork Fried Rice and Egg Roll ($7.25 plus tax). The beef was on the chewy side, but juicy and the noodles were soft. The tan pork fried rice with chunks of pork was decent and the egg roll was tasty, as the case most of the time. The food was overall decent and the service was efficient and I got my food in 10 minutes. read more

Ordered 5 items at 5:30 and they called back and said they were "too busy" to take our order and to call back in 30 minutes after already taking our order. I then order online, wait 45 minutes to pick it up get there 50 minutes after the order is placed and stand waiting in the stinky little box with 10 other pissed off people who had been there for HOURS. Some little kid just wanted his lo mein and he couldn't even get it. There before I was there and I eventually walked out after waiting 45 minutes without a word said to me and other orders being taken over the phone and at the counter. They had an underaged worker working the register and i saw no adult or person over the age of 10 in the restaurant. Child labor and absolutely awful service. They then called to tell me the order was ready after I had already driven 15 minutes home, i drive back the order isn't ready. This place is fucked and shouldn't be in business absolutely inexcusable and unbelievable I have never had such an awful and stupid experience at a restaurant such as this read more

I stopped at the Chinese restaurant during our tour of Vermont. It is a very nice and clean restaurant. It is family owned and the server was nice and friendly. The menu items offer many varieties. They got the best "Chicken Teriyaki". I recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling by this area. read more

The host seemed nonplussed when we wanted to order ala carte rather than buffet, but the service was friendly and quick even though we had to remind him we needed plates after the food was presented. The mister and I ordered kung pao chicken, szechuan pork, and black bean shrimp, and all three dishes were very alike, with only a small variation in vegetables, and one obviously had peanuts tossed on top and another black beans stirred in to what tasted like the same brown sauce for all three. They were all tasty, albeit a bit monotonous. The real surprise was the dumplings. Pan-fried, thick-skinned, and well-seasoned, they were by far the best we've had in New England. The dipping sauce was very tasty although a touch too sweet. We didn't try the buffet, but the mister commented that at least it looked like it had been well taken care of, nothing too old or nasty looking even though it was mid-afternoon. Other people came in and universally sidled up to the buffet, so maybe we'll try that next time we're there closer to the lunch rush. read more

Ehh...maybe I should have rated this a little higher, just because I don't know if you are really going to get better Chinese food in Bellows Falls, Vermont. We were just passing through, and found this place on the iPhone. Each "dinner combination" is about 7.50, and it comes with pork fried rice (the kind where the rice is bright yellow), and a spring roll (that was really, really, bad.) The portions are humongous though, so no need to worry about that. They had an alright variety of American-ified Chinese food. Like curry, friend rice, chow mein, broccoli beef, etc. They also had steamed stuff too, so if you aren't feeling the stir fry, there is something for you. They also had a free ice cream promotion. So after dinner (maybe after lunch too?) you get a free bowl of ice cream. That's always good. read more

This place is average at best and very plain inside, which is really sad since it has the potential to be a lot more successful. When you walk in it's more like going to a strip mall Chinese restaurant, order at the counter and take a seat anywhere. At every booth and table, there were handwritten signs done in marker instructing you to order at the counter. In this day and age, use a printer and make them all look the same. In one booth near the employees only room on the back side of the entrance there was kids toys left, so it seems this is also where the family babysits the kids in the family when things are slow. We went on Sunday when there wasn't a buffet. The food we ordered was ok, it overly sauced but lacked some heat considering big items had heat warnings on the menu. Oh, and your menu is your placemat. The main course wasn't bad but the white rice was old and dry. I'm assuming the buffet would hopefully be better but I can only imagine that you would need to get there at the start of the buffet for fresh rice. Drinks all bottled, and the tap water comes from a pitcher... which also didn't look all that clean. One bathroom was "broken" and the other bathrooms toilet filled to the top of the bowl when flushed after just peeing. Thank GOD it didn't overflow. I've been told that this place has better now than after the new ownership took over at JoyWah.... thats gotta be bad then. Chinese food should be fast, hot, flavorful and light when it comes to many of the dishes. I have to say I was a little disappointed. Especially since the menu was the placemat...... and the utensils were really old and looked like they were borrowed from Dari-joy after the summer season. Recommendation to the owners... start revamping your menu and have a small printed menu with real "specials". Those are the really fresh and well made items. Once you have one, add a second, then a third... every two weeks add another or make a special for Friday's or Saturday's and advertise it. The best Chinese place I've ever had was in hollywood and was smaller than this place. Husband and wife team from NYC and that's it plus a delivery. They made hunan style Chinese food and it was always amazing, and just 2 people and they had 16 tables that served 2 or 3 at a time. If Hunan Cafe in Hollywood can do it, this place should be able to as well. This place is already better than the other in town, but that doesn't say anything really great about either. Not come here and expecting great... you could probably do better by buying frozen or a packaged kit at Shaw's and make it at home. I hope it improves..... read more

About average Chinese food for New England. Nothing amazing. Definitely better than other Chinese food places in the bellows falls area.

I love going here to eat. It is quick and easy and just over the border from New Hampshire. The food is Perry yummy in my opinion. Fresh ingredients and good friendly service. They have a buffet but normally I take out. Love their crab rangoons and beef teriyaki! read more

So...off we went to China Garden today, for lunch. They have a small buffet, but we arrived 20 minutes from its ending time - so not only was there very little left to see - but what we saw looked mostly like the heavily sugar-laden typical stuff that we prefer to avoid. Here is what we got for the 2 of us as a representative sampling: Chicken & mushrooms luncheon plate; Chicken & garlic sauce luncheon plate; Spring rolls; Hot & sour soup; Wonton soup; Fried wontons; Vegetable egg foo young. Altogether this cost just under $40. As others have commented, there are handwritten signs posted at the tables directing those dining in to make a counter order, which we did. The 1st table of our choosing was still not cleaned from its prior use(s), so we took another. The chicken & mushrooms luncheon plate was rather bland, but not over sweetened - whereas the chicken & garlic sauce luncheon plate was almost painfuly sweet, though well spiced with garlic (adding our own, brought with hot oil & cayenne made this better !!). The spring rolls were very, very good with plenty enough ginger. The H&S soup was scooped from the flagging buffet & barely passable. The wonton soup was good enough. The fried wontons were crispy, had very little filling & dripping with oil. The vegetable egg foo young was average. Altogether we say that this place is -just- OK; not horrid - not great - and good enough if a Chinese food fix is needed, but not a place we'd hurry to get out of bed early for (we are night workers). Summary: Not extraordinarily cheap - but qualifies as 'the cheap seats' - nice enough,but NOT terrific. One facet of this makes it most desirable to us, as Vermonters: It is clearly a family run business with 3 generations visibly present. Next we shall try out the larger, fancier place a couple of miles down the road from this one & will review that right away afterwards. read more

The food is great . Everything is fresh and delicious. They keep bringing the food out freshly cooked. The egg drop and wanton soups are so good. The buffet has plenty of great dishes on it . Tea and ice cream and cookies for desert. The people are very nice . Its worth the trip. Also the widows have a great view of the river and the trains going by and the bridge connecting Vermont and New Hampshire. It is a wonderful place to eat. read more
