The first time we had dine-in Chinese cuisine in town after we moved to Keene for 1 year. It is getting cooler (colder) outside I have no mood of cooking after a long day while my two kids want to have noodles. I was a little bit worried before come here after reading other reviews but this place is way beyond my expectation. We walked in because my kids picked Chinese ver noodle over Thai ver noodle (pad Thai) I ordered beef broccoli, house special tofu, sweet sour pork and shrimp noodle. Food came hot (of course) not too salty and not greasy/oily compared with other Chinese restaurant. We didn't even remember to take photos because my kids loved the noodles so much my 3y younger ate all the tofu in her plate even asked for more. The lady(owner) was very nice and thoughtful. She helped me pick dish for my kids and my husband. I am leaving a long review because I feel like small business owners deserve real positive feedback if they are actually doing good. Giving 4 stars on atmosphere only because it is a bit crowded to put 4 tables. They are using disposable plastic plates but I have no issue on this considering I have two small children. This place has generous portions that can easily leave you with leftovers (for me, that's great). Overall, their food is very flavorful and delicious. Their menu fits all types of tastes while being perfectly reasonable in pricing. I typically get their combination plates, which range from 8-11 dollars. Inside you get a LOT OF rice (or lo mein if you substitute) as well as what the other pieces of your combo is. Edit: Forgot to mention you can order online! we were three travelers from the west coast looking for lunch in Keene and found the King's Garden today. Having eaten Chinese from San Francisco to New York this place was one of the best! Crab Rangoons were large, crisp and not greasy. The egg foo yung, exceptional with crisp veggies and lots of pork. Last but not least the shrimp in lobster sauce was also fantastic! I literally got very sick. I ordered the Peking duck (oh man don't be as stupid as me). It was literally some nasty old freezer burned duck strips and chunks of skin that someone microwaved, threw into a plastic container on top of some lettuce with a little plastic dish of gross sauce. They didn't even bother throwing it in a pan with the sauce to make it sizzle for a minute. I'm glad they didn't because I might have foolishly eaten a few more bites. Another review said you don't want to see their kitchen. Holy cow I hope I never do because I'll vomit again. Working in Keene, it's nice to have such an inexpensive, fresh, lovingly made, option for delivery. For our birthdays, they decorated our containers and their delivery guy is as gregarious and kind as he is speedy and efficient (he even makes CERTAIN I don't hand my own pen to him after I sign). If you're picky about cultural accuracy, this is not the gourmet place for you...but if you want good solid comfort food, in decent portions for not a whole lotta scratch, you NEED to check this place out. You can also order on line and never have to talk to a person, should you be the introverted sort. My regular lunch, delivered, with tax and tip, is under ten dollars and feeds me for two meals. Started coming here a few months ago. The workers are very nice (I assume it is family owned and operated). The food was good and the prices were reasonable. We got Sesame Chicken and Orange Chicken. Very bad, the sad part is that the best tasting part of my order was the free pork fried rice. Spent $25 here for 2 entrees. The shrimp met fun was drenched in soy sauce and grease, very unappetizing. I LOVE noodles, but this dish, I cannot eat. Got the crispy scallop, and was actually very excited. It says that it would come with mixed vegetables, there is no mixed vegetables, just broccoli. The scallops were terrible, breaded REALLY thick, they looked like dinner rolls, the breading was NOT crispy, which makes me ask which part of this dish is the actual crispy scallop? Drenched in orange sauce, opening the lid of my entree, it looked very unappetizing. Strictly a take out place, so is China Wok on Court st, but that place is a lot better. I am not saying China wok is rock star by any means, but if you have to do another chinese takeout place, do China wok. Or if you would rather have a place to sit, eat at cherry garden. How upsetting, I was very excited to go try their peking duck next time, but with this experience, I would not be back. Also there is a coupon that says a free wonton soup with $17 or more order and my order was $25, I did not get a wonton soup. Not that I cared about the soup, but that is not very good customer service. The reason why this place is not 1 star is that it's a family business, even the daughter works here and eats here. Kings garden is a great little take out place and definitely the most bang for your buck in this area. The food is always fresh and delicious. Definitely not a place to sit and eat your food at, though they do have a few tables if necessary. I usually get a combination dinner which comes with rice and an app on the side for about 8 bucks.
