And at $54 for a family of three -- it was such a great deal for the amount of food we ate. That's $18 per person for an all-you-can-eat buffet! This was more than good for the price. It was reliably good for years, then just before they left the building with the bus station the foods & service quality became terrible. The ambiance (decor-wise) was just ordinary for a Chinese place with some cracked vinyl seats & the usual not-so-clean restrooms. Lastly, the manager when we last went was truly obnoxious to us despite knowing we'd been regular customers there for years. Friends also drew the same conclusions & quit going there. Everything about this place was, at best, below average. We came here on a Friday night because it was our nephew's 13th birthday and he wanted a Chinese buffet. Unfortunately, someone had recommended China Moon. It was not busy and we were promptly seated. The restaurant looks like it might be fun with all the LED lighting and trinkets on the outside, but alas, it is not. We ordered sodas and iced tea. Our server seemed somewhat disengaged and acted like she really didn't want to be there. After taking our drink orders, she left without saying anything, so we then got to business at the buffet. I'm a vegetarian and usually Asian and Chinese food is pretty safe. Unfortunately at China Moon, this wasn't the case. There were several beef, chicken and shrimp dishes but not many vegetarian options. There was one dish which had broccoli, carrots and tofu, but it had been mostly picked over and there were maybe 4-5 bites of tofu remaining. After a couple of trips around the buffet area, I managed to piecemeal a plate together with the aforementioned tofu dish and some vegetable lo mein, but the food wasn't good. The noodles were dry and the teriyaki sauce was bland. I ended up using some of the spicy chili sauce (there is a bar of sauces) to try to make it more edible. Almost everything on the hot entree section was a various shade of yellow or brown and mostly fried. I know Chinese buffets aren't known for their healthy choices, but I'm used to seeing more fresh vegetables. They do have a couple of sushi options (which were the freshest-appearing items on the buffet), but none were vegetarian friendly. There is also quite the spread of various deserts, but most of them looked pre-packaged (like snack-sized donuts, cookies and canned pudding). I didn't bother with anything on the desert cart except a banana which was coated with some sort of sweet red sauce. Our sever did not come back to check on us or refill our drinks until physically prompted. As in I practically had to stand up and wave my arms like I was directing a 747 at the airport in order to get her attention. She finally left a pitcher of water at the table and refilled my soda, but we were all thirsty when we left. I definitely would not dine here again. Poor service and bland food do not go well together. read more

Not really for me... I arrived around 3:30 and asked the front desk how much it would be per person. I was told it would be around $13 each. However, when we paid for two people, the total was about $37. When I asked about the difference, I was told it was because we were being charged the dinner rate (about $16 per person) since we arrived right at the dinner hour. The cashier who initially quoted the lower price apparently wasn't aware of the dinner pricing. In addition to the pricing confusion, the place felt pretty dark inside, and while I didn't see anything outright unsanitary, it gave off a vibe that didn't feel very clean. Rolled in at 2pm on Saturday. Light crowd which is always the gamble at a Buffett. More People = faster the food turns over. Standout dishes IMO was the Peanut Chicken, fried rice, and hot N sour soup. Rest of the meal was meh. They sat an amazingly obnoxious toddler directly next to us, who had fits every time she didn't get what she wanted, so that didn't help. I love a good Chinese food dive, this one was above dive status. In my experience the seedier, more non-descript the establishment is the more delicious the food. This place was clean and well-kept. Back to the food, we wanted a good fountain coke, ours were pretty much flat. The waitress grabbed our plates quick enough, but never came back to see if we needed a refill on the flat cokes. Also tried the hibachi chicken, general Tso, chicken with mushroom, and black pepper chicken. All were serviceable, but not special. Lo mein has a weird taste, like too much 5 spice or something. The upside was the peanut chicken as I mentioned. Excellent crisp on the crust, with a little peanut sauce concoction over top of it. I would totally eat this again! Out the door we were at $42 bucks for 2 buffets, 2 cokes, $5 tip. Parking was free and easy. 2% service charge on credit cards. Would I go back? Ehhhh on the fence on that one. Good luck! read more

Used to be a decent place to eat. Wife and I haven't been there in about a year. Had an appointment in the area 7/16/25 so we stopped in for a late lunch early dinner. The worst food we ever had. Mostly all the meat items were dried out and hard. The coconut chicken tasted like the coconut sauce went bad, the same with general chows chicken. The unknown fish had a bad flavor and was overly water logged. Sad it cost us $35 for a few mouthfuls of garbage. Won't go there ever again! read more

We had the craving for a Chinese buffet on a Thursday afternoon of our cross-country RV trip (from California) and were happy to find China Moon. Even though we arrived at 1 pm (so our meal was past the traditional "lunch hour"), the buffet was constantly stocked with fresh hot food. The selection was good, and the flavors and quality on the higher side of what you'd typically expect from a Chinese buffet place. The wait staff was great, making sure our drinks were filled and our used plates were removed promptly. And at under $12 per adult, the price/performance ratio comes out much better at China Moon than a lot of places we've eaten at! We'd definitely recommend China Moon, and would stop in again if in the area. read more

China Moon Buffet is open and has moved to 96 Sykes Mountain Avenue. The lunch buffet price is $10 which is a bargain plus a dollar off for seniors. They had dim sum and potstickers and siu mai as well as a few Sushi items. Dinner is a few dollars more but still a bargain. A fairly typical Asian buffet but it is the lowest price Buffet I've seen. Plenty of salads desserts and entrees including lots of beef, chicken, and pork stir fry dishes. I would come here often except I live 30 miles away. read more

This Chinese Buffet offers the basic Chinese fare (a bit on the greasy side), soups, salads, shrimp, crab legs, mussels, salmon, pizza, and more. The selection there is very small with food that's fairly mediocre, while being somewhat luke warm and generally bland. The most talking came from the wait staff, who practically shouted to each other in conversation as they seated us. On the initial sit down, 2/4 people received forks. No big deal, just a small detail thing. The dining area was fairly cramped and the bathroom had much to be desired with broken stall lock and poorly caulked toilets. This is a place you can pass on. This restaurant was very much satisfactory with plenty of goodies! Everything was very fresh and hit the spot just right. We have been regular customers here for around 2 decades. The food was always well prepared, tasty & plentiful. We noticed it keeping lower standards over the course of many visits during the past 12 months. Today we went again, made sure to arrive as early as possible to their opening time for the very freshest foods on their buffet. Solid Chinese buffet conveniently located next to the Greyhound bus stop. A better option than the McDonald's or Subway that are also close by, in my opinion. The all-you-can-eat lunch buffet is $7.99, so it was nice to fill up and feel contented when waiting for a transfer. The quality of the food seemed good as well. Ah, the sacred combination gas station/Chinese restaurant. Unlike most such mixed marriages, China Moon works. For what it is -- a Chinese-American buffet, a smorgasbord of fried, steamed, and sauteed dishes of indeterminate age -- it is superior in its field. Not every dish is a winner; my usual favorite hot and sour soup was bland, and my husband and I split on the chicken wings. However, the pork and onions was excellent, good flavor, nicely cooked non-mushy onions and pork slices. The mister enjoyed his salt and pepper shrimp with some Singapore noodles, and we were both impressed with the quality of the BBQ pork, as there was actual fat in it, not tough and tasteless-lean, and not too sugary sweet but just right, how we used to get char siu from a famous Chinese shop in California. Seating is bounteous and comfortable, excellent for kids and workers alike, and you can't beat the price ($20 for two adults and a preschooler, toddler ate free) nor the convenience. read more

Driving through to get to some skiing in New Hampshire, we decided to stop here real quick for lunch. Not wanting to eat at McDicks, we decided Chinese buffet would hit the spot nicely instead. China Moon is run by what I'm assuming is a single Chinese family (how many Chinese families could be in this town anyways!) and the restaurant itself is connected to the gas station. Now originally hailing from the midwest, this is a great reminder of the cheap buffets I'm used to. No paying $28.00 for an all you can eat buffet, or paying a "buffet" by the pound non-sense. For $7.00 we were able to have an awesome lunch that we would have never received at name any fast food joint. All the dishes passed muster for my white people's Chinese food standard. They serve up all your standard items you would expect from all Chinese restaurants to even a few strange items like the gigantic siu mai dim sum offerings they had. I particularly enjoyed their fried chicken they mixed with curry powder and loved the fact they had candied peanuts which instantly reminded me of my grandparent's house when I was a kid. For a small town restaurant connected to a gas station, this place had a pretty impressive buffet line with IIRC 4 separate lines to include a variety of dessert items including cake, pastries, and fruit. Suddenly on a Saturday afternoon I got a craving for a Chinese food buffet and there's really only a couple places in the area. Don't let its location next to the White River Junction bus station deter you from checking this place out. I hadn't been to China Moon Buffet in about seven years so I was excited to see if it was how I remembered it. The atmosphere was much improved from those seven years ago but the food seem to be pretty much the same. The variety and selection of different Chinese and American dishes on the buffet was great. They had quite a few different seafood options, including crab legs, clams, shrimp, and muscles. I was able to try some things that I am never able to get when I just order one dish from a Chinese restaurant, such as coconut chicken or Mongolian pork. It is what it is...buffet style chinese food. Once every couple years I make the mistake of going to these joints. Luke warm food, that has been sitting out for who knows how long, with absolutely no love in it. As I was eating I could only wonder if I would get the squirts from it...fortunately it all stayed in. Heres a little known secret: they have a menu you can order off from as well and the food has always been fresh, amazingly good, nd the staff have always been accomodating (I'm a vegetarian-although dining companions are usually meat eaters and agree on this review) and friendly. I definitely suggest this place for the menu food. There arent many truly vegetarian buffet options but ive always been a bit choosy and hesitant to order from any buffet where food is kept out for hours with many hands going into dishes during that time... It's warm and comfortable inside. Soft Chinese music plays in the background. The staff is very nice and accommodating. When I said I planned to stay a while to wait for a taxi she said, "no problem, take your time." The buffet has dozens of choices and they stir the food often so it doesn't dry out. The best buffet next to a bus terminal, ever!! I've gone here even when not waiting for a bus. Looks inconspicuous on the outside, but surprisingly well cared for on the inside. Seems like this one might be a family-run restaurant. Lots of pride in it. Has the usual selection of Chinese food that would show up at a Chinese buffet.
