C3. Hibachi Chicken and Steak Plate

Service was good, and the shop is small but cozy and clean! We are happy to say this is our new favorite habachi spot in Iowa City! Portion size is good, I love the rice, and the sauce that's put on the meats at the end is a very nice touch. Overall, I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a casual habachi experience.

Was excited to see a hibachi restaurant when I was driving through North Liberty. We decided to stop by and check it out. The service was great and prompt, and prices were very affordable. Some of the food was a bit bland, but the spring rolls and sauces were delicious. The serving sizes were very fair and came with a good variety of vegetables.

Great portions and change of pace vs burgers. Give them a try. We need to support our non-franchise eateries

We tried their snow-aged sake this time (yes, aged in snow for three years!) and it was incredible--smooth, clean, and unlike anything else you'll find around here. As always, the sashimi was fresh, beautifully plated, and melt-in-your-mouth good. We mentioned we were celebrating a special event, and they surprised us with the cutest orange "bear" fruit carving. It's that kind of thoughtful, personal touch that makes this place unforgettable. I can never resist their Taiwanese popcorn chicken--crispy, tender, and packed with flavor--and the Three Cup Chicken tasted incredibly authentic. You can really tell this place is run by owners who care about getting it right, both in taste and presentation. Warm ambiance, kind service, and dishes that actually taste like home--Sushiya is a rare gem in the Midwest.

Sushiya, on the other hand, is the go-to spot. The flavors here are superior in every way. The seating inside is limited, but you can watch the sushi chefs working on the line, which is fun to see. It's clear they handle a lot of online orders because they were constantly busy. There's also a kitchen in the back for cooked dishes, though it's not visible from the dining area. Everything we tried was delicious, and I don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu. I especially enjoyed the lunch portion of the Katsu Don--it had a lot of onions, but I didn't mind. I did ask for extra spicy mayo for my two deep-fried sushi rolls, as they were a bit bland on their own. The spicy mayo seemed house-made, with far more spices than I've seen at other sushi restaurants, and it was genuinely spicy, which was a nice surprise. The restaurant itself was quiet, aside from my best friend's child having a little meltdown at the end of the meal when his food wasn't coming fast enough. Overall, it was a great experience, and I'd happily return.

I ordered a jalapeño cream cheese roll that unfortunately was completely overpowered by onions -- it drowned out the other flavors. I also tried a roll with a wasabi honey sauce that just didn't work for me at all; the sweetness and wasabi combination tasted off and kind of unpleasant. The other rolls weren't bad, but they felt like they were missing some texture -- a bit of crunch would have made a big difference. That said, the ingredients seemed fresh and the presentation was nice. I'd consider giving it another try and ordering differently next time.

The dishes are all usually well-prepared, especially the sushi, and cooked/made to order. On one occasion the steak hibachi was overdone but the other time it was fine... Service is great here, very friendly and upbeat (even in spite of being short staffed)...and the environment is easygoing and chill (you won't feel rushed)... Parking is plentiful, and it does get very busy on the weekends. You can make reservations for larger groups (over 5 people, I think). Definitely give this place a try, if in the area! If you're not in the mood for a lot of food, you can also just order off the menu...you will still get very generous portions!

Unfortunately, I've had the most vicious craving lately and this location is safer for me to satisfy that urge. I really only go with friends who live in the area and we order ahead online. They currently do not allow dine-in and this makes for even more minimal interaction with the staff, but they're plenty polite and professional. (It is a good size dining area though, especially with the patio!) We haven't had any issues with accuracy or quality either. Our food is always ready when we arrive. I hesitated to order straight off the menu since I have my insider tricks, but I was pleasantly surprised when my dish wasn't burnt or dried out as expected. Props to this location for always having their ish together. Definitely recommend over the CR locations any day. Try the penne rosa or spicy Korean noodle and don't bother with sides lol.

Now it has broken windows, leaking pipes, dirty bathrooms, and some sort of ban on vacuuming the floor. The menu screens over the counter were off, but don't worry--an employee's phone was propped up and playing a TV show. And (like at so many other places that have shifted 90% of their focus to pickup and delivery orders) we had to wait a really long time for our in-person food. Two of our three dishes were done and plated right away, and then we watched them fill about five other orders before our third dish was cooked, so by the time we got our food, one bowl was steaming and two were lukewarm. I regretted saying "in person" pretty much the moment I said it, but we were also about 30 minutes from home and wanted to eat before our food got cold--now I know that it would have been cold either way, and we would have been better off going straight home and eating a bowl of cereal.
