I ordered moo shu pork, shrimp lo main, and semi chicken. This food is not good. I suspect the bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, and mushroom are caned. The moo shu was very wet, and lacked wok hei. The texture was soft like everything was cooked at low temperature all at once in a conventional pan. It was also served with flour tortillas instead of dan bing. The shrimp lo main also lacked wok hei and was so wet and overcooked the noodles broke when picket up. I will let the phot of the semi chicken speak for itself. I ordered chicken chow mein combination and wonton soup. I thought the wonton soup was great!! It wasn't just chicken broth, it was dark broth, the noodles were firm and there was evident pork! The soup came with shrimp chips that were crispy and yummy!! My chow mein was really good, as was the fried rice. The egg roll was ok too. My husband had shredded pork with schzaun pickles and shrimp fried rice. He also had the wonton soup. He is picky about his Chinese food, personally I think he doesn't like Chinese food. Hot shredded pork with Szechuan pickle is the thing to get. Hot & sour soup is also good and they'll make it hot as you want it. The most disgusting chinese food I have ever encountered. Do yourself a favor and do not even think about ordering food from here. When I walked in, my intuition told me to walk back out but I decided to give it a try since I drove all the way there. The sesame chicken looked like chicken wings. I bit into them and no bone. The sauce tasted very weird. The egg rolls a just stuffed with cabbage and onions gross. The fried rice tasted very old and microwaved. The bbq pork was swimming in sauces. Terrible food! Not normal Chinese food at all! Ordered their potstickers, general tso "hot" and beer lo mein. Potstickers were okay...good size flavor was okay but not the norm. Now onto the general tso which I ordered hot as the hostess said it was spicy, which I love. However it was terrible no flavor or spice at all. The chicken was like a chicken tender not your normal Chinese chicken, meaning pieces. Plus it was terribly prepared. Now the beef lomein was as bland as possible. It was like they just cooked it in a bunch of flavorless water. Had no color. Was so unimpressed. Probably the worst Chinese food I've ever eaten. So bad I couldn't eat it, and I literally had to order new food from food king which I'm actually sitting in their parking lot waiting. Word of advice don't waste your money here. This time I got it to go, and I can't tell you how many Chinese cuisines I have to pass up to get here, there's a reason why, their food is outstanding and the staff and owners are very friendly and accommodating! Food is made fresh everytime, no sitting fried rice or lo mien, it's made fresh, like everything, everytime! I'll drive it 30 minutes home and it will still be warm and ready to eat! The chicken had very thick breading and was dry. Because the put the sweet and sour sauce on the chicken it was soggy by the time I got it home which was about 10 minutes. The sauce lacked flavor. Used there soy sauce for the rice and I immediately knew it was a mistake due to the it being black and had no scent to it. We have been coming here prior to COVID -19, and although the food is still wonderful, the service when dining in has dramatically changed for the worse. There is only ever one staff member at a time and whenever we dine in, a thirty minute dinner turns into an hour and a half. Disappointing to say the least. We are regulars at this restaurant and have been for many years. With water, silverware, soups and appetizers being forgotten, it is a constant problem that we have noticed ever since the dining room has opened up in result of COVID-19. It is extremely disappointing as this is a staple in our weekly meals, and we enjoy the food very much. I noticed this place only had one review (and one star at that!), so I HAD to write one. I don't know what "Brian S. from Austin, TX" is talking about. When I was 2 years old, I moved to Brunswick with my parents. We ordered food from China King often while I was growing up. When I was a little bit older, we moved 25 minutes away and still made the drive about once a month just to get their food. I'm 25 now and I've lived all over the country (including California, Brian, practically the Asian food capital of America). China King is still the standard by which I judge Chinese food and every time I go home for a holiday, et cetera, we always order China King and enjoy it together as a family. So... the food: Oh, so good. They have the best Egg Foo Young I've ever had. I had a shrimp Egg Foo Young once in New Orleans that came close (and I knew the family that owned the restaurant, so I know they were making me their best), but STILL it was not as good as China King's. Their General Tso's chicken is epic awesome. Other Chinese food restaurants tend to use tiny little pieces of chicken all hacked-up and gross looking. China King uses huge pieces of white meat. So much better. Their House Wonton is perfect for a gloomy day. Anyway, yeah. Go to China King. I guarantee it's better than any Chinese in the area. Plus, it's a family business. My friends and I went to China King right before seeing a movie across the street. I had decent hopes for the place, as outside it has some decent decorations. We walk inside to find a paying customer complaining "I can't believe you guys don't have chocolate ice cream!". Yes, all Chinese restaurants should serve chocolate ice cream, apparently. This is apparently the clientle which drives the menu of this place. The menu had the typical Chinese-American fare (without chocolate ice cream, though). I got an overly-sweet plum wine to drink. Egg-drop soup that didn't exactly smell the best. The vegetarian options were somewhat dismal, one dish touting "___ with Oyster Sauce" in the veggie section, and only one dish containing tofu. I ordered that, and out came a plate of veggies and fried tofu in a completely flavorless water sauce. Mmm... flavorless chewy tough tofu. Not impressed. I've been coming here since I was a kid. Actually, I think this was the very first restaurant I ever went to when I was a little boy. It was always a treat! Great food! Love the Almond Chicken and Wonton Soup. Awesome family that runs the place. Long time friends of our family. Highly recommended. A Brunswick institution! Skipped class a few times in high school to come here for lunch and Betty, the owner, never told my parents. It was our secret; although she did scold me for skipping class and I had to promise to go back to school after eating. This place has been around for awhile because its inexpensive and you get a good portion of food. As far as authentic chinese american food goes it is what it is. Cocktails are cheap and more mixer than anything else. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken and fried rice with an egg roll. Fairly standard order, nothing extremely complicated. The food arrived on time and hot via DoorDash. As for the quality of the food. The egg roll and fried rice were enjoyable. Now for the General Tso's chicken, this is my go to meal when ordering from a new place. Of all the places that I have ordered from, nothing has ever tasted like China King's version. The chicken appeared to be chicken tenders covered in an atrocious red sauce that had a terrible flavor that I can not even find the words to describe. After one bite of the chicken it went into the trash. Maybe their other dishes taste fine, I don't think I will be back to find out though. read more
