We ordered 5 meals to go along with egg roles and an appetizer. The egg roles and appetizer were over cooked and dried out and all 5 meals were not good. 2 of us had the bourbon chicken which had little flavor and the chicken was hard and dried out, almost seemed freeze dried. 2 others had shrimp and chicken chow mein, which had no flavor, literally zero flavor - the celery (which was in large chunks as was the onions) was the most flavorful item in the dish. I was craving some good Kung Pao chicken and I figured I would try China King as it had a great price for lunch specials that including, soup, rice & entree...under $6, can't beat that. Well, I won't be heading back there anytime soon. The soup was decent but the Kung Pao chicken was scary! I didn't even eat the grizzeled looking "chicken". It was so disgusting looking I was afraid to try it and the pieces were tiny. The rice was so greasy that's pretty much all I could taste. Ordered takeout from China King and it was delicious! The portion sizes were huge and the food had great flavor- everything you want when ordering Chinese takeout! I ordered the Broccoli with Garlic Sauce (flavorful with lots of veggies) with white rice and the Vegetable Soup - savory and impressive (zucchini, pea pods, cabbage, carrot, etc..) My first experience with a Chinese Restaurant in the South Lyon/Novi area was a bust so I was really hoping that China King would come through in the clutch. They did not disappoint. I tend to order the same thing at every Chinese restaurant (boring, I know), so I know a good chicken with mixed vegetable dish when I taste it. This place has it. The food was on time (10 minutes really means it's ready in 10 minutes, not 25) and it was not overly done with the sauce or grease. Definitely worth repeat visits! read more

The food was good. I had their almond chicken which was sweet. I've never had sweet almond chicken. My boyfriend had their orange chicken and he said there was nothing to special about it. Their pork fried rice was super great I love that. You could tell their egg rolls were fresh along with there wonton soup, which mg boyfriend said was the best wonton soups he has ever had. I tried this place for some carry out and was disappointed. The egg foo yung was burnt, and the gravy was bland. The "chicken" pieces in the Kung Pao Chicken were almost non-existent, and instead it was mostly breading and no meat. The veggies that came with it were mushy and tasteless. It was so bad I got in my car and brought it back to the place. When I told them about the chicken, their response was "it's dark meat, breaded and fried". If I wanted white meat, I should have asked and they would have put unbreaded white meat in it. This tells me the breaded product was frozen store bought. They did give me a refund instead of a credit, which was good because I won't be back. read more

I feel confused seeing the other reviews, but I really like the food here. I never had the kung pao, but every time I ordered the General Tso's it has been great! Same with some of the other things like the orange chicken, or sweet and sour. It's actually one of my favorite of any where I have gone as far as small, cheap, Chinese food places go. read more

i have found many favorites here. best part is actually the friendly cooks and owners who seem to love customers. I love to see the place busy as I know they will be around for a long time. I especially love the combo meals. They have some of the best fried rice as well - hearty rich texture. subtle flavors. Some times they have off days - i can get general tso chicken that tastes and looks like sweet & sour chicken (nope not for me) or some times find a dish that gets better every time i order it like mongolian chicken - which is my wife's favorite - she is very picky about asian food. As for me I vow to try everything my health will allow (i am allergic to shellfish/crustaceans - so no seafood for me). I absolutely love their soups and sides. am totally in love with their dumplings. I prefer to go to China King Novi any time versus established favorites I would otherwise have visited in the past. I admit somedays the food doesnt come out the way i want. and sometimes they are too busy for me. I've never ordered over the phone or via the internet. So I cannot account for those experiences... I do love the times I can sit down at a table in the corner and be allowed to eat a large bowl of soup, a few tasty side orders such as fried pork dumplings, and vegetarian crispy spring rolls, as slow as I want while drinking free hot tea. they have never given me hassle. I routinely talk to some of the workers when they sit down for their evening meals in between busy times. Most of the time I am happy with what I buy and have no issue with spending an average of $10 for my lunch or sometimes $30 or more for dinner... The other best thing for me is my wife has grown to liking some of the food here as other chinese eateries around us have closed but China King Novi has stood the tests of time and continued to stay open and continued to give excellent customer service, excellent food value and above average food quality. read more

My favorite place for bourbon chicken suddenly stopped making it and I have been on a mission for over a year to find good bourbon chicken since. Imagine my surprise when I found out China King, which is really close to my work had Bourbon Chicken! It's your typical American Style Chinese food here, and it seems the whole family is working there. A young boy took our order and it was ready in about 10 minutes. On to the Bourbon Chicken, it was great and really flavorful. The sauce amount was just right, and is a honey based sauce from what the boy told me. The chicken itself was cooked well, not too tough and not dry at all, just right. I got the combo which came with fried rice and an egg roll. Both were pretty standard for what they are. Will definitely go back when I'm craving Bourbon Chicken. read more

Took forever to have them answer the phone. The guy on the phone was very very rude and he was sagging his pants and had no underwear so his butt was showing while cooking our food and everyone else's food at the same time. The food is very good and consistent. I was ordering a couple dinner combination meals over the phone just yesterday. I had a really hard time listening to one of the workers over the phone. It sounded like there was a lot of background noises and it sounded like there were a lot of yelling. I had to repeat my orders almost more than two times. When I got to the restaurant, I asked what was the background noise, and one lady said, "Oh, its just the kitchen in the back which is really loud, so we have to shout to make sure the workers can listen." I get this totally, but the weird thing was that the kitchen in the back was not even that loud, also, the person who was yelling when I was on the phone, had a really really nasty attitude. I was pretty sure the lady was lying to me. Anyway, the food was delicious and it was worth the price. I think they upped their prices by just a bit, but it is still pretty cheap. read more

This place is awesome! Everything is always hot, fresh and delicious. If you get the dinner combination, it is an okay deal. If you get the lunch special, it is an INCREDIBLE deal.
