I walked back to my car and the person I was with went inside and offered two dollars to buy more, but one of the dollars was torn. the lady would NOT allow her to leave out the store with the duck sauce and took it back and told her she would take it back while she went to the car. it is never that serious. When we crave a quick bite to eat, of all the chinese take outs in the nearby area, this is the one we found to be the best. The items on the menu are all American chinese food, but they are cooked well, portions sizes are large, and the prices are very reasonable. Other nearby chinese take out places might give comparable amounts of food, but the actual dishes are typically not cooked as well (either lacking flavor or way too greasy). I ordered bourbon chicken for my husband and he had such a meager portion, like they are rationing food. The bourbon chicken had no sauce and was smothered in green peppers. It doesn't make sense for a "Chinese" carryout to cut such corners. Been coming to this location for 4 years Compared to other Chinese Food locations in the area China Kitchen is my absolute favorite. I am a harsh critic when it comes to Chinese Food especially in Maryland where I have had bad experiences at many other locations. The food here is great. I usually order the Chicken & Broccoli Combination and General Tso's chicken. I love their Fried Rice that has flavor and not a plain taste like other locations. I recently started ordering their Shrimp with Lobster Sauce which is also great and not watery like other locations. Their steamed dumplings are good and Ribs are decent. Their Sweet and Sour Chicken is good too. Only thing I tried and didn't like was their Bourbon chicken. Vegetarians beware!! Meatless "bean curd" menu is a lie and a scam. It's chicken. After being assured not only once on the phone when I ordered the meatless general tso's and the meatless sweet and sour "chicken" was indeed bean curd, I asked again in person when I picked it up if it was indeed vegetarian, and was assured it was. Perhaps meat eaters won't understand this but after being vegetarian for 13 years I have learned to triple check my food as everyone is human and makes mistakes. I got home and dug in. It tasted a little different to me, not exactly what I expected, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Now I know you are sitting there thinking "how can you not know that you are eating chicken?!" After 13 years of not eating something to eat something that had been heavily spiced and deep fried it's hard to distinguish. But any doubts I had we're cleared by the six hours I spent (TMI warning sorry!) in intense pain on the toilet having every content of my colon and intestine spew uncontrollably out of me. (Food poisoning like symptoms happen to vegetarians who consume meat after eating it after years, which is why we avoid it - our stomachs have adapted to our diet and we no longer have all digestive enzymes to digest meat, they have to slowly be built up again). I had a meat eating friend check my meal the next day, and what do you know, I was given chicken. Anyhow, they lied and lied again. I will never take my business back here. This is my go-to place for Chinese food when I'm visiting my boyfriend in Columbia and not in the Rockville/Gaithersburg area. I expected this place to have Americanized Chinese food, but it's actually good coming from someone who has palate for more traditional Chinese food. I love their hot and sour soup that comes in a big plastic container for around $3. The General Tso's Chicken with chicken fried rice is pretty good too, especially when you mix some of the sauce with the rice. We usually ask for light sauce on the GT chicken since the amount of sauce is beyond abundant. Great portions and great prices, perfect for two poor college students (: For the few times we've gone to the restaurant to pick up the food, the lady up front is very friendly. As a vegetarian I must admit one of the few times I miss eating chicken is when I order chinese food. I used to love getting general tso's chicken or sesame chicken and just cannot get down with plain old steamed vegetables and rice. Yuck. Enter New China Kitchen. At first I was a little weary of ordering off their "meatless chicken for vegetarian" menu. How could you not be? Was it going to be straight up tofu or TVP or maybe they'd just mix it up and give me actual chicken? I decided to just go for it and was pleasantly surprised with the general tso's and sesame "chicken." It is TVP, in case you were wondering. It tastes like chicken, only better because it doesn't have the chickeny taste or the gristley texture. You meat eaters are probably reading this thinking WTF, but other vegetarians who have never cared for the texture or taste of meat know what I mean. You can get all sorts of faux-chicken dishes, or if you want to be healthy they have enough vegetable based dishes to satisfy. (Update: the steamed vegetables are actually very yummy. Nice assortment of fresh veggies, steamed just right, maintaining a slight crisp.) read more

One of the basis for my reviews of a "fast-food" Chinese carry-out restaurant is the fried dumpling appetizers. This place has above average. It is heavenly compared to the fried dumplings served at Red Parrot Cafe near Arundel Mills (see my review of that place). For under $5 you get 8 fat dumplings (~3.5"x2"). They take their steamed dumplings and toss it quickly in a hot pan to give it a nice crisp and brown bottom. Their food portions are immense compared to many Chinese carry-out places around here. You really get alot for your money when ti comes to the dinner/lunch combinations. They pack their styrofoam containers to the brim with rice and whatever entree you ordered. The hot and sour soup was average for a carry-out joint. My co-workers go here alot for lunch and rave about the seafood soup. I'll hafta try it next time if I can convince myself to not order my soup-of-choice-when-I-order-carryout: hot and sour soup. Oh, and the shrimp rolls were pretty good. This place is right next door to Philly's Best which IMO has one of the best pizzas in the area. I'll review that place soon. read more

I stop in to grab lunch here all the time. It's really a quick carry-out, but they have a couple of tables if you feel like eating there. The service is great and the food is consistent. I like to get their chicken and broccoli with wonton soup. The chicken is always tender and the broccoli is cooked to my liking (not under/over cooked). My tastebuds are screaming "Give this place 5 stars!!" I ordered the Roast Pork lo mein and not only does this dish have incredible flavor, but the dish had so much pork, it surprised me! I mean most places I've been to don't skimp me on the meat, but I've never been to a chinese restaurant that almost seemed to go overboard on the meat portion and that's just "AWESOME!" I also ordered the steamed dumplings which are by far the best I've ever had....ever! These people are so disrespectful, I have been ordering from these people for years and they offer 2 egg rolls or 2 canned sodas when you spend over $25.00. It has been this way for over 7 years. I called last night and placed an order over $50.00 and the guy on the phone told me that I could not have my egg rolls for spending $25.00 because it was a one time deal. Then when I said that it's a promotion that I have used for years, he said that he could not do it, so I said well I will have my friend call and order she is a new customer , then he in turn said , that she needed to do a whole new ticket. He seemed so upset that I wanted the promotion that I have been receiving over 7 years that I finally said forget it cancel my order. When I said I wanted to cancel he then said "wait how many egg rolls do you want?" Finally I just hung up and went to Philly's Best in Elkridge. They are great. Go to them if u need food. Everything about this place is prepackaged and flavorless! What kind of Chinese restaurant has yellow "fried rice?!" The Mongolian Beef and Kung Pao Chicken were listed on the menu with the "spices" pepper icon, but neither one tasted of anything other than too much salt! "Too much salt" coincidentally is obviously the favorite spice of this place. And that's what makes me think that everything is prepackaged. Everything you would get out of the grocery frozen food freezer is always too salty. I order from this place frequently, always the same shrimp and broccoli for me, broccoli in brown sauce for my son. They always get my order right, and the brown sauce is perfect l. Shrimp is comparatively generous, and never overcooked like I've had with other delivery places. My friend ordered the General Tso's shrimp and loved it. So after shedding a tear watching old Meg Ryan Romantic comedies, I suddenly got a craving for some Chinese food. I am a huge foodie, but sometimes ya just gotta stuff your face with a greasy eggroll. With that being said, there is nothing absolutely wrong with some quick chinese takeout- but oh, so many options! I've probably tried nearly every delivery place in the area (to disappointment), but so many new ones keep popping up. After going thru the 917 menus stashed in that one drawer next to the stove, I decided on this place, solely because in the last 7-8 days, I have had about 5 menu's from this place nicely tucked under my front door. I was like "Hey, that's persistence!" So my order: Combination Lo Mein, Singapore Mei Fun, Wonton soup, Shrimp with Lobster sauce, and pork fried rice. Yes, it was all for me. I had recently gotten out of a relationship, feeling depressed and starved, I decided to binge and eat myself silly out of cardboard white boxes with that cute lil' red china house emblazoned on each box. The first positive was that when I called in, the person was actually pleasant and spoke GOOD ENGLISH!! How rare this is! Correct me if I am wrong, but how many times have you ordered chinese carryout and some dude who speaks like he has raisinettes in his mouth take your order and is RUSHING you! In 2 minutes u are off the phone, and you are left sitting naked in your living room with the phone on your hand thinking to yourself "I sure hope he got that order right..." Sometimes I feel like yelling "I am your customer you buffoon!! There are NO subtitles on the phone so why don't you ease up, and stop rushing me!! " But this place did the unthinkable! They REPEATED my order when I was done! It was a breakthru!! I felt like running naked in the streets! Now the food: EXCEPTIONAL! Let me first say that yes, I am rating a tiny little dime-a-dozen chinese food delivery place so my reveiw is based solely on it's 1000's of competitors and not the Michelin star restaurant quality. But I do look for attention to detail- are the veggies fresh and cut nicely? Is the meat and seafood cooked properly? Is there flavor but not from 5 gallons of soy sauce? The were tons of veggies in the lo-mein and Singapore dish, and were extremely fresh tasting and had a great crunch to them. The crunch is so important for these dishes! It makes a world of difference. The shrimp was cooked perfectly-not rubbery and overcooked like most places, and the shrimp looked and tasted like fresh shrimp, and not those frozen little tiny baby shrimp that tastes like a garden hose. What surprised me was that the Singapore Noodles had beef, chicken, pork and shrimp which was a pleasant surprise as most places just do chicken or shrimp or pork or a combo of 2, but never all 4. The lo-mein was as tasty and perfect as you would want with mounds of vegetables and meat/shrimp. The fried rice was also very good, and this is why. It is not the usual "soy sauced brown" fried rice, but had a lighter color that is light yellow. For all you true foodies, if you have ever had Young Chow Fried Rice (the BEST chinese fried rice), then you know of this color. I cannot stand overly brown salty soyed sauced lo mein or fried rice and this place did not offend. If I want it more salty or "brown" I will add my own soy sauce. Otherwise, I prefer this type of fried rice- less oil and less soy. These 2 dishes, the lo-mein and fried rice are staple dishes that ANY delivery place should do well, yet so many fail, either being too greasy or too salty with little veggies or meat-yaw know what I mean. The Shrimp with lobster sauce was very good with huge shrimp that again were NOT overcooked, and the wonton soup and eggroll were what u would expect anywhere-nothing soecial about those, but that's understandable. Lastly, the portions are huge-every carton was overstuffed to the maxed, and the Singapore was in those larger black plastic rectangular boxes that I swear would feed 3-4 people easily. Best of all, the true test is that it all microwaved superbly the next day and tasted just as good if not better. Again, I don't expect much from places like these. Let's face it, when you are drunk, depressed, or just plain binging, and you spend $25 on a huge bag of chinese food, all you really are expecting is something to tame your urge and not put you on the toilet for hours as your butt throws up. So when I get a chinese food kick, all I want is something passable, but what I got from this place far exceeded my expectations. The prices are way cheaper than most places-my entire order was $25 and I got a free pint of pork fried rice for spending $25, portions are huge, andd most importantly, the dishes are executed extremely well and very, very good. Execution. What more do u need? Well, maybe a a 12 pack & a Jessica Alba film, but this will suffice. I did not rate this a 5 because I believe perfection is a journey : ) read more

Just like how Jason F Mentioned, this business runs by another management. The New China Kitchen is definitely worth 2 stars. The first star comes from the price. Between 11am to 3pm, their lunch special is around 5 to 7 dollars depending on what ingredients were used. I give the second star for the service. They usually pack the food fully, and it seems warm. The other star is from the taste. Although, some portion of the cuisine they sell seem microwaved, the taste of their food isn't so bad. Each orders come with another bowl of soup, or egg rolls. However, they lose half a stars because I once found a string of hair. This means they have no protection on themselves from ruining the food for customer. I could guess that they aren't wearing any types of hat, or a mask for hygiene-purposes. They lose another half a star for using false advertisement. They name menus based on what cooking styles were used, but some of them are VERY VERY similar. Its as if they have no difference. Plus, one of the other option says roasted pork fried rice, but there ARE no roasted pork. So it should just be "Fried rice" or "Roasted Pork Gravy Fried Rice," Something that would hint the customers that there are no other ingredients than the fried rice. The second star they lose come from the online order. They seem to be using some kind of interface that is provided from this company named "Beyond Menu", as I get my confirmation e-mail from there. I noticed that they charge 1 dollar extra fee for this "online ordering fee" I personally would not like to believe that, but even if that is true, this is a star to lose because the customers should not be discouraged to order online food from the fee. I didn't really see mildew on the ceiling or floors it looks like a previous review was saying. The photo shows some vents that need to be cleaned out. I'm not sure what the rusted fan has to do with the review as this was probably pre-existing and indicative of Landlord/property management quality, which I'm sure is not their jobs. Definitely not fancy or up to date by any means, but we have tried a lot of Chinese restaurants since we moved here from NJ/NY about 3 years ago and this is the only one in the area that we could agree on with taste and price on so far.
