On top of everything the combos don't come with Egg Rolls & Soup, and I've never seen this anywhere else in the state. Though they were the same 15 dollars as anywhere else... Anyone giving this place 4 stars, must not get out. Not only do you not go out, you probably consider salt a spice. Now left rinsing this burnt taste out of my mouth, leftovers I won't be eating, and nursing a stomach partially full with food I regret. Maaaaaannnnn I've been struggling to find a dope Chinese takeout spot the entire time I've been in Odenton. I finally found some decent ones, after years of terrible experiences and just resigned myself to the fact that I'd have to travel to get my Chinese or eat mediocre. I'm pissed that Grace Garden has been in my neighborhood this entire time. I'm pissed that I overlooked them bc of my experiences with other Chinese restaurants on the Annapolis Road strip and surrounding areas. And I am pissed that I've been depriving myself for so long. Grace Garden serves the style of Chinese that I grew up on. Sticky, spicy General Tso's done RIGHT! We ordered some other things - Singapore noodles. Spring rolls. And fries chicken that was so crunchy that we came to the conclusion that they had to fry it twice. Grace isn't a looker aesthetically but it's not always about the wrapping, but the gift. read more

Update: June 2024 As others have noted, the management has changed once again. Sadly, now the restaurant is not nearly what it used to be. Gone is the authentic Chinese menu that drew us and so many others to this hole in the wall spot. That is to be expected as owners and chefs come and go. I wish the former well in their retirement. Unfortunately, the food offerings are now just the typical Americanized Chinese dishes common to any other take-out. But the prices remain what they used to be before the change. Imagine my son's surprise when he paid twice the average for a General Tso's Chicken expecting a generous helping of big tender pieces of chicken in a tasty house-made glaze, and instead finding a meager portion of overly breaded chicken bits drenched in a thick syrup pre-made sauce. It's almost a crime that they have kept the name, and on the wall the accolades and newspaper clippings earned by the original owners. Nothing here is deserving of that now. A complete name change and makeover would have been more appropriate, and maybe even appreciated by the former patrons who are quickly making their feelings known. I wish the new owners the best of luck in their new business model, but they have big shoes to fill and a long way to go to get me to return again. read more

I wanted to try this restaurant based on the great reviews I saw online. My colleagues also highly recommended it so I was eager to give them a try. Unfortunately it didn't wow me. I would give it a solid 3.5. It's slightly above average. My husband, on the other hand, thought it was just average. He ordered the wonton soup and house lo mein. He said the crispy noodles/chips that came with the soup was stale, but that if he soaked them in the soup it was edible. I ordered the Mongolian beef and house fried rice. There was more onions and scallions than Mongolian beef. Flavor for both were good but I've definitely had better. Considering that there was only one other patron waiting for carryout, they didn't seem very busy but it took the kitchen awhile to prepare our food. There may have been carry out orders, but I only saw one or two people stop by to pick up their orders. The restaurant has a front and back entrance. If you go around back, there is a lot with ample parking spaces. The back entrance hallway had a mouse trap and musty odor. It didn't seem like there was good ventilation. They had a table top fan in the restaurant. Final thoughts: The restaurant was just average and nothing to write home about. read more

Talk about a hole in the wall, my girlfriend took me to this restaurant. We parked in the back and entered through the back door. The hallway has spider webs all over, but she promised it's all worth it. We sat down and the owner gave us a Chinese menu, separate from the American menu (general Tso, egg foo young). My girlfriend was talking to the owner in Cantonese and she recommended three dishes. Fish noodle - yes, noodles made of fish, but not fishy. This was amazing especially since I'm going through a no carb diet. Seafood in xo sauce - the seafood was ok, the highlight was the home made xo sauce. So much umami that I gave up my no carb diet and ate it with rice. Slow cooked pork belly with sour veggies - the meat was so tender with some pickled veggies and fresh cabbages. This tastes home made too. I came here hungry and left here 5 pounds heavier.....only downside is I gave up my keto diet. read more

This is the first time we have been here since the change in ownership. Prior to that this was our favorite spot for Chinese food. The owners were wonderful friendly people and I am sad I did not get a chance to say goodbye...we had been eating at home more often to save money. Also I am sad because the food is no longer good at all. I got the crispy beef and returned home excited to eat one of my favorite meals to see that it was completely different...and NOT at all crispy, and lacking taste of any kind. The crab Rangoons are blah as well. You used to get 6 but now only 4. They are bigger but the large portion of the mix inside makes it a bit overwhelming to taste. Management has changed. I was in the area so I decided to stop in and purchase some food. You have to purchase through the app or kiosk. The chicken fried rice that I normally order without issues is now prepared differently with different ingredients and a new chef. My family agreed it now has this weird metallic aftertaste now. I immediately called the restaurant to request a refund and I was asked if I wanted to come back with the food and have them remake it. No, I'm not utilizing time and gas to drive back to a restaurant in an area I barely frequent because the food was bad. Since I paid via an app, the refund process should be easy right? Wrong. The guy told me to call back after 6pm to speak with the owner and have them refund me because he didn't know how to process the refund. I called back around 7pm same day and went through a lot of back and forth. I was then asked to text a picture of the rice to them and they'd work with the company (the app) to see how they can refund me. I was refunded for the item later on that evening. Unfortunately, I won't return. I can't risk purchasing other menu items that may not taste the same or even better. For what it's worth, the fried wings and sauce aren't bad. read more

Came here on a whim with a friend who said this place used to be good. Unfortunately, no mala here either, friends. Apparently, according to him, the menu had changed quite drastically since the last time he was there, probably due to change in ownership, but we made the best of it. The ladies behind the register were nice and made sure we saw the special menu. Make sure to order off the special menu if you want more authentic food. It was currently setup for takeout only, which was probably good as there was a not so great smell on the short hallway inside the restaurant that leads to the long hallway that goes to the parking lot out back. In any case, I was delighted to see Szechuan items on the special menu and ordered the following: -Szechuan Spicy Chicken -Szechuan Pork Belly (and Vegetable Pad Thai, which was actually pretty decent, but I'd probably just go next door if I only wanted Thai.) Both dishes had okay flavor, but no heat to either of them, even after confirming mala with the lady behind the register. My friend ended up with the Beef Chow Fun and he said it was okay, but nothing to return for. That's how I felt about my meal as well. read more

This was my favorite spot to get Chinese takeout. I loved the spicy Szechuan pork belly. I could never find anything like it anywhere else; it had this sticky, spicy sauce, and the pork was crispy. Now, it is a cheaper pork belly cut cooked with no sauce, and the pieces are very fatty. I am so sad to see this place has changed ownership and the recipes have all changed. There were hit and misses with this restaurant. The salted egg shrimp did not quite get there in the flavor department, but were big and fresh, generous portion. The Szechuan pork belly was not good. Veggies were freshly woked but pork was shriveled up and room temperature. Tasted like old bacon. The salt and pepper pork was amazing!! It was freshly cooked, hot, flavorful and just darned tasty. This was my frist time re-visting Grace Garden after the management change and I was a bit underwhelmed with our order. Our order consisted of the Salt Pepper squid, chicken fried rice, basil chicken, Sichuan pork belly, and the crispy eggplant. The highlights of the meal were easily the chicken friend rice and the pork belly. The fried rice tasted wonderful and most importantly it reheated well for days after ordering (nothing bothers me more than fried rice that gets stale after a day in the fridge). The pork belly was so tender and juicy that I ate half of the container without even realizing it! As for the squid and the eggplant, I thought that the batter on it was too thick. I don't love fried foods so having to peel off half of the batter in order to enjoy the item makes me a bit grumpy. And lastly, the basil chicken wasn't a bad dish but there was a CRAZY amount of ginger in it that I wasn't expecting at all. I don't dislike ginger however when I'm getting 3 pieces in every bite, it's a bit overwhelming. I think that the food tasted a bit more mainstream than I was used but I am still willing to come back and try out other items on the menu! read more

Very disappointing. This was my favorite Chinese spot. Apparently they're under new management and it shows. The egg rolls used to be homemade, now they taste like standard, frozen egg rolls. The chicken was also different (probably frozen too) and the sauce on the orange chicken was not nearly as good as it used to be. On top of that, they forgot my rice and no fortune cookie! I'm so heartbroken to report that my once highly desirable Chinese food sensation has lost its charm. I recently visited after a long, awaited return since now living in a different state, and was totally surprised to find that my favorite dishes no longer have the same appeal. While waiting for my food, I asked the owner a few questions and learned that the business had been sold and the new owners have been there since 2021. It was definitely evident in both the food taste a few subtle changes in the restaurant itself. Most notably missing were the colorful and illustrative pictures that used to grace (no pun) the walls. Was inspired to head here after seeing Elite Corey W.'s recent review. I don't normally do Chinese food for a mid-day lunch, but was really craving some straight-off-the-wok eats because of the cold burst of weather we just experienced. I called in and ordered general tsos chicken, asking to switch out the rice for lo mein for an upcharge. Turns out they don't do that, but suggested a small order of lo mein instead. Was more than happy with that suggestion because more food for me, lol. My favorite Thai restaurant of all time is located in the same rundown strip mall, so I was not unfamiliar with where it was, but unlike that restaurant (that has an entrance from the back parking lot), Grace Garden's storefront is facing the street. You have to park and walk around. Once there, I was happy to see they were following safety guidelines: employees were wearing masks and gloves and there was plexiglass separating you from the cashier at the front counter. We love to see it! The food was delicious. The general tsos was crispy, but moist on the inside. The lo mein far exceeded expectations for a "plain" order - it had a sauce or coating to it that was delicious. Happy to add these guys to my dinner rotation! read more

Just because it's just over 1/2 mile from my home, on a highway filled with the kinds of businesses you often find directly outside military installations...... I mean, I'm sad that I fell for stereotyping. OK! breast-beating over with, on to the review ;) Takeout order, thanks to #covid-19 , was a bit more difficult to order. Phone lines very busy and they don't have online ordering :( But the food!! OH my, the food!! Succulent gyoza that my DGD snagged up more than her share ;) Amazing pork belly (the regular, not Szechuan because we didn't know how hot that would be, right?). 2.5 stars. A friend of mine suggested Grace Garden as a good place for Chinese food. When we arrived at the restaurant, I resisted the urge to turn around and go somewhere else because it is located at the back of a strip mall sandwiched between a dry cleaning place and a laundromat. It looked suspect. We walked down a rather dark and dingy hallway, passed the kitchen and made it to the dining area. Whew. The dining area was clean, open and had about six to eight tables. There were also pictures on the wall of various dishes (I'm guessing customer favorites?). The wall also featured an award from Zagat from years ago. (Whatever happened to Zagat?) There are two menus presented upon seating and my friend said the first menu covered more "authentic dishes" while the second was more "American Chinese" food. I ordered from the second: cashew chicken and vegetable fried rice. Note that the fried rice is actually pork fried rice but I asked for vegetable fried rice instead and they were willing to accommodate. My friend ordered the Taiwanese fish which was pictured on the wall. My cashew chicken/fried rice came with large chunks of chicken and a few cashews. The food was hot, chicken cooked thoroughly but was rather bland. Edible but not memorable. I tried my friend's dish and that seemed very salty to me but not to my friend. This place gets quite a bit of traffic so maybe I ought to try ordering from the other menu next time. read more
