Located in a strip mall. There is ample parking. Service is fast. We order 6 dishes which included the egg foo young with chicken, pork, and shrimp. Shu Mai, Chinese broccoli, steamed beef balls, steamed rice noodle stuffed with shrimp, and the wrapped sticky rice with shrimp and pork. The egg foo young combo was huge. It came with and egg roll and fried rice. The shumai was large and delicious. Chinese broccoli was served with oyster sauce which was a tad salty when you ate the contracted sauce areas. Good thing we did right after us, large parties were coming in, and the restaurant filled up instantly. Have been here a few times for pretty solid dim sum. Specifically, this is Cantonese dim sum, so you will not find specific dishes such as pan-fried dumplings or soup dumplings. Authentic cart service. Not a super fancy place, but can get busy. Good for large groups. We ordered their normal Chinese menu for takeout a different day - pretty generic Americanized Chinese food, nothing special but gets the job done. read more

First things first. Mai Dragon and Mai Dim Sum are one in the same. It is a bit confusing but it is the same. Anyway, I love me some dim sum! The last 2 places we went to though, sadly were disappointing. Mainly because I want my dim sum to be hot, not cold. If I wanted cold dim sum, I can goto H mart and pick some up from the freezer aisle. But they were closer so the kids wanted to go there but I refused. I would rather try a different place and fail than to go back and fail at a place that failed before... twice. Well, the service here was great. And it's less crowded because it was a bit out of the way. The food came out hot. We got down to business and ate all of our favorites. The food was flavorful and most importantly, hot. Came in for a lunch date with the wife and enjoyed some delicious dim sum! The inside is pretty with some simple tables a couple TVs, and a nice back room for overflow and events. Waitstaff greeted us quickly, got us our drinks and then showed us the standard menu and the dim sum. There's a paper menu for you to check off which items (by number) you want and then they'll bring them out as they are ready. And some of the dim sum came out quick! We got our siu-mai (super porky and delicious - would get again), shrimp dumplings, and lo-mai-gai right away. The lo-mai-gai is interesting and a real punch of flavor: very sticky rice with some vegetables, scallops, beef, and pork. We also thoroughly enjoyed our chiar-siu BBQ pork baos and Chinese broccoli. We also got a couple of the sweeter options which were all a nice way to end the meal: The Ma-Tei-Gou cake is different but tasty. Chunks of water chestnuts in a gelatin mold with a light oil (sesame?) that gives a shredded apple vibe. The egg yolk baos and nice and sweet and the egg custard tarts are a real treat. For the amount of food we got, it could have been a much more expensive meal but the prices are pretty reasonable and the food is filling. I would come back. read more

Note: first menu pice are for the Mai Dragon and the last one is for the Mai Dim Sum side. They limit the selection to only steamed orders after 4. So we're in the Ft. Meade area to visit our daughter on the way to an RV rally and mama suggested Mai Dim Sum as she tried to dine here last time she was in the area but there was NO dim sum menu for after 4 PM. Had the pork bao buns and shrimp dumplings and both were amazing. Apologies for the pics, but the food looked so good we dug in before I could get snaps at delivery. Service was great, with several different servers making sure we had everything we needed. Large dim sum menu....all delicious! Dim Sum is made to order (rather than stored in a cart going around the restaurant). I always order way too much and have the pleasure of taking much of it home. Dumplings are perfect; rice rolls are tender and filled; the meat dishes (Char Siu pork, Empress Chicken, Clams in Black Bean Sauce are the best. And the steamed veggie dishes are such a nice complement to the meats. The Egg Tarts are the perfect dessert. Alcohol isn't served and Dim Sum has limited hours 11-3 or so. The restaurant is functional, not beautiful, and seats are comfortable. . Lots of Asian families order Dim Sum. The other Mai Dragon Chinese restaurant offerings: Chinese-American and Cantonese Special Dishes are delicious too. Service is quick and efficient. I have never tried Mai Dragon's sushi or Thai dishes. Try it! read more

It's a solid 3 stars. This place needs a renovation! It doesn't look good inside and the furniture is peeling. Cups and silverware look overused, all that stuff. They have a loyal following though. This is a place I don't admit I eat at and don't take friends . If you have a taste for dim sum you'll end up here because it's the only dim sum place in the area. They really should give this place a douching out. Just feels unkept and dated. The dim sum was some of the lower grade premade and frozen then steamed. Try the duck that was recommended on Yelp and again some of the worst version of roast duck. This is a reheat by microwave roast duck with water down soy sauce for the dipping. Also order the soy sauce chicken which was also a poor attempt to pass this off as soy sauce chicken. There was too many pieces of cut up drum sticks in that little plate to be a 1/4 order chicken. The use more legs than whole chickens and sneak in xtra drums for more profit. And the chicken is a generic market purchase chicken, not the fresh chickens. Mai Dragon / Mai Dim Sum is really the only place in Odenton that you'll get Dim Sum. It's not bad both for eat in and take out. They have all the dim sum offerings you would expect like siu mai, har gau, chicken feet, cheong funn, ham sui gok, etc. If you're looking at the non-Chinese food though, warning, I once asked a waitress if anyone likes the sushi, and she just laughed and refused to comment. read more

This place was a gem to find, and I hope it sticks around for a long time! I am a huge fan of dim sum, and before I found Mai Dim Sum, I thought I would have to go into DC or some other major city with a regional Chinatown to find any that was worth mentioning. Not so! True, Hanover isn't exactly in my backyard, but it's a lot closer than a trip into the district or Baltimore. And the fare is more than comparable to any you would find there. I found the actual portions to be MUCH bigger than I was expecting, but for about the same price! I think most everything was around $4-5 or so, but they were no tiny dumplings. These things were huge! The flavors were spot on, and the offerings were just what you would expect to find at any dim sum establishment. I had the shrimp and leek dumplings, the pork and shrimp dumplings, sesame balls, fried rice in a lotus leaf, and char siu bao. It was way too much for just me! I brought my leftovers home, and a second adult couldn't finish them in one sitting either! That should give you an idea of how big their plates are. It was a nice experience overall. The place looks like it could use some TLC, but that should probably be expected in a strip mall type location. Honestly, the food made me overlook all manner of aesthetics, though. I happen to be around the Ft.Meade area and decided to try this place out with my family. We ordered bunch of dimsum plates and it was just meh. If it was crazy busy l can somewhat understand, but this restaurant was not busy at all on a Tuesday afternoon. Half the dim sum food we ordered came out cold or slightly warm. Usually come here once a year with family and it's still very consistent dim sum. They have a good selection to choose from, but nothing specifically that you can only get here. All the steamed items were good and I noticed that the dumplings, sui mai, har gow, etc are bigger than what you get in MoCo, for about the same price. They didn't have baked char siu bao (unless they ran out like the egg tarts) which is my favorite, but also got soy sauce noodles and beef chow foon which had great wok hey. Service was actually good, kept our drinks full and brought us what we wanted when the carts weren't near. It gets pretty crowded on the weekends, we waited about 45 mins to be seated. I haven't inhaled food like that in quite some time. Was really craving dim sum and this place did a great job! Service is SO fast which is the best part. You mark your sheet with what you want and in the blink of an eye, all the food was here! It's not the traditional experience where you have to wait for the cart to come around but it's more efficient when you are so hungry. We tried a lot of the dishes. Our faves were the buns/dumplings with chives (the filling and the actual bun itself were very delightful) and the egg tarts which were flaky and perfectly sweet. Some other thoughts: - The shrimp dumplings (ha gao) were packed quite full which was good. - Shumai were average but large. - Cha shao bao had cooled down when it came to us. - Cheung fun were thick but needed a bit more sauce as well. - The fried bean curd shrimp thingy was very crispy which was a nice additional texture. Some things that could be slightly better: - needed some sauce on the table - you have to pay a little extra for tea which is slightly annoying The whole place carries a lot of nostalgia with the somewhat tacky and unmatched decor and the zodiac place mats. TLDR: The last traditional dim sum spot in Baltimore (RIP Chopstix Rosedale). Tasty and reasonably priced Dim sum! Make sure to order many plates of the roasted duck. Vibe: 3/5. Located in a strip mall right off 175, Mai Dim Sum has 2 signs (Mai Dim Sum and Mai Dragon) adorning the same restaurant which can be a little confusing. For clarification, you enter through the Mai Dragon side of the restaurant. There are several large circular tables perfect for larger groups as well as your standard 2-4 tops for smaller. Interior décor is that of your standard dim sum restaurant, clean, functional and nothing to write home about. Service: 5/5. Since the pandemic, Mai Dim Sum has done away with the push cart service and has went to a regular menu ordering system. You are given the dim sum menu (which has pictures), you then order with the server and then they mark off your items on the traditional dim sum bill card which you use to check out when you're done. This system is honestly way more efficient than push cart service since you can order all your food at once as well as not having to wait for specific carts to make it to your table. Yes, it does take some of the novelty out of the dining experience, but the fresh hot food right from the kitchen makes up for it. We arrived on a Saturday around 1:30pm and were seated immediately with our orders taken not long after. As mentioned above, all the food came out all at once, piping hot. The waitstaff was great at clearing empty steam baskets, grabbing us more chili oil when needed and punctual with the bill when we were finished. Food: 5/5. We ordered almost the entire dim sum menu and loved everything. All the dim sum staples are here and are executed well (ie. ha cheung, shu mai, har gao, sticky rice, taro puffs, char siu bao)! However, Mai Dim Sum took our breath away with the $8 plate of roasted peking duck that they offer. Generous portion of perfectly roasted duck with crispy skin definitely took best in show. It rivals that of ducks I have had in Chinatown Flushing NYC and of Peking Gourmet in NOVA. All in all, very happy with our dim sum experience at Mai and look forward to coming again! read more

My husband and I had originally planned to go to Pho-One-O in the same shopping center but it was closed for the July 4 weekend. Since it was closed, I begged my husband to go to Mai Dim Sum as I have been wanting to try it. He was resistant at first as he isn't a fan of dim sum, but I said he could order something off the the regular menu, so he reluctantly agreed. I don't know if Mai Dim Sum was opened, but the dim sum menu was available through Mai Dragon. We arrived at 11 when it first opens. Upon entering the restaurant, the hostess checked our temperature. My husband's temp was normal, but mine was 99 so she had me wait until my temperature dropped before we could be seated. There was only one other patron in the restaurant. I was given the dim sum menu, a pen, and a form to fill out my order. I selected the: 19) Now Cheung Fun: Steamed Rice Noodle Sheet Roll filled with Minced Ground Beef, 22) Char-Siu-Bun: Baked BBQ Pork Buns, 31) Neng Che-Gee: Eggplant Stuffed with Shrimp in Brown Sauce, and 35) 1/4 Roasted Duck. I normally have the Rice Noodle Sheet Rolls with Shrimp so this was different. It was a bit slimier than I've had at other places. I prefer the shrimp instead of minced beef. I loved the other three tapas I got. The duck skin was CRISPY and delish. The only critique I had on the duck was that it wasn't very meaty, all mostly bones. The menu is not as extensive as at other restaurants. I was really hoping for sticky rice. I'm not sure if the one in the lotus leaves are the same. I noticed that after the fact. Some of my other favorites were not on the menu. I took a doggy bag home and plan to have my leftovers tomorrow. This may be my new favorite dim sum place in the area. I got the following order for two people and it was more than enough: 2 #1 (siu-Mai), 1 #2 (shrimp dumplings), 1 #18 (rice noodle with shrimp), 1 #26 (egg tart), 1 #30 (pan fried shrimp/chive), 1 #31(eggplant). Everything was delicious, I would repeat everything I got maybe except for the eggplant as the shrimp paste in the middle was very little, couldn't really taste the shrimp in this dish but the other dishes with shrimp were all delicious. Wow. You walk in and if cleanliness and or lack of chaos are your key standards you go by, your turn around and walk out. Stuff piled up all around. Some tables un-bussed. Etc etc. BUT, those of us who really know dim sum know you cannot hold those types of things against a true dim sum restaurant. The food rocked !! Shu Mai was great. Dumplings, great. The boy and I went for a bike ride and post ride we typically find something to eat prior to driving home. For some strange reason I decided we needed some dim sum post the ride. A quick yelp yielded this as a result and since Chopstix and Asian Court are no longer available nor my favorite place in Silver Spring we decided to try out this place. They do offer the push carts like all other dim sum places and you can order some things off the regular menu if you wish. During covid, they do have hand sanitizer at the front when you check in and the tables seem to be spread apart 6 feet. However, we did get asked if we would be willing as a 2 top to split a 15 person table with 3? other couples. The owner? hostess indicated there would be an empty seat in between each group -- we respectfully declined and waited for a 2 top to open up. The food was pretty good, turnip cake probably could have had a bit more turnip flavor. The chive dumplings were good, and we did find other dim sum treasures that we dont always see at other places. The one issue i had was a customer had their dog and was allowed to go into the establishment with said purse dog who sat in that person's lap the entire time. Pretty sure the health department regulations don't technically allow dogs that are not service dogs in establishments such as this. My sister and I came on Friday around noon for the first time since COVID. I missed dim sum so much!! It wasn't too busy but most tables were filled. They no longer have the carts but instead offer paper and pencil for ordering which is still very simple and easy. The food came out within 15-20 mins. Everything was fresh and piping hot. I did have to ask twice for a water refill.. This is my go to dim sum place. Now that I moved to Laurel, I'm like 12 minutes away from them! I would eat there every weekend if I could haha but I track my macros! And the bill adds up! For the two of us, we got 2 of every dish we ordered. It was nearly $80! We ordered takeout here since our usual dim sum go to wasn't open for a good part of the pandemic and we saw that amazing spread from Christine L.'s pic. I have to say, I was impressed and we've been regulars ever since. They do a great job with takeout overall - it's super easy to order through their website and if you're worried about them running out of something, you can place the order the night before to guarantee they set some aside for you. Also from a packaging perspective, I appreciate that they crack some of the containers to allow excess steam to release, thereby ensuring quality while you drive back home to devour your goodies. Everything we've ordered has been tasty but I highly recommend their shin zhu green and their ham sui gok. Also don't sleep on either of their char sui baos, they don't skip on filling like some other places. I absolutely love this place for some authentic dim sum! We had chicken feet (first time trying these and we enjoyed the flavor and texture), har gau (shrimp dumplings), shu mai, buns, and sesame balls. As many have already spoke for the service, it's not the best. However, their food is worth going for. We went during their cart service and were very confused at first. It was a little overwhelming as they are trying to go as fast as they can through the items. It was also hard trying to understand what the food items were because of the language barrier. Ambience was different than I was used to (although I'm from Asia). They were just trying to fit as many people as they possibly could so people with a party of 4 were continuously getting seated before us (party of 2) which was very frustrating. We went at 11:30am. We were then seated at a table with another couple (which was awkward as they didn't want anything to do with us). Definitely will be returning but probably on a day they do not offer cart service and not right at lunch time. If their food wasn't so good I would have given this place 2 or 3 stars. read more

I'm really happy I'm now kinda close to a place where I can frequent authentic dimsum with a cart getting pushed around which was a first time experience for me. So they are open for dine in now. You take a token, they call your number, check your temperature and show you to your seat. An item order card is placed on the table. We didn't have a menu given to us when we were seated and had to flag someone down for it. They automatically assumed my bf and I were there for the dimsum, though the table next to us were given the entree menu maybe? We were given the smaller dimsum menu. When the cart rolled by with freshly replenished dimsum, we got a steamer of beef steamed meatballs, the chicken bao bun and shrimp noodle crepe. We mentioned I don't eat pork and I picked the har gau and the eggplant stuffed with shrimp off the menu which was brought to our table in like 15 minutes or so while we ate what we got off the cart. Everything tasted pretty good to me and it does fill you up. I do wish there was more non pork meat option dumplings though. I don't mind eating mostly shrimp only dumplings but a little variety would be nice maybe with more vegetarian dumplings or chicken only dumplings. One thing was we didn't automatically get soy sauce or black vinegar or chili oil crisp and had to ask for it, cos some of the texture started getting a bit similar and the taste as well. All in all the place is clearly popular as there was a line forming out the door when we arrived around 1ish on Sunday. Our wait was all of 10 minutes though so not too bad. Literally like the only dim sum place in the area...we dropped my parents off at Maryland live casino at Arundel Mills and this place was about 5 mins away. Actually our 2nd time having dim sum here and both times was pretty consistent in taste and variety. Not the most updated decor but looks like typical Chinese restaurant. The carts were constantly flowing through the small area so you are literally bombarded with dim sum before you even sit down lol. You are in and out pretty fast. The variety was good enough for the area, har gow, sui mai, egg tart, rice noodles with shrimp, radish cake, chicken feet, etc. Lots of fried goodies and few sweet items as well. Everything tasted as I had remembered from when I was a kid and nothing was extremely oily like other places. The calamari and chinese broccoli was a little salty for our taste, but it was still addictive. The calamari had some fried onions in the mix and I loved the sweetness it gave the dish. My friend ended up taking the broccoli home and she said she would try putting it in some rice or stir fried noodles.
