We were hungry and went to the closest Chinese take out why driving through Fanwood. We love ordering beef fried rice. The beef fried lacks the beef. There was not enough. And the beef didn't have the best color. Although it was tender. It was missing some veggies. There was barely any onions, carrots, and no peas or bean sprouts. It lacks the flavor but was not salty. China Moon provides a good, not great, American Chinese food experience. The options are pretty standard fare, which is fine by me, but don't expect any super authentic food. I had the General Tso's, because I am a cliche. It was crispy, and had some big pieces, but I didn't find it overly flavorful. The meal came with a side of rice that was in the serving dish. Also included was soup, I tried both the Won Ton and Egg drop. Egg drop was good, not a ton of egg but still a decent flavor. On the wonton side, they were quite flavorful, easily my favorite part of the meal. Lastly, I'll note that the staff was friendly and the location has a few parking spots and an easy online ordering system. Will definitely try again, maybe even branching out into some new main dishes! read more

I've only ordered from this place a couple times through Uber eats. I don't really have a variety of dishes I eat so I stay to my safe option which are chicken wings and french fries. No complaints here to be honest. The chicken wings weren't crispy and had a generous amount of meat. The fries were crinkle cut just the way I like them. Also, if you're an Uber one member they have a buy one get one free special for the chicken wings special. I have been on the hunt for some good Chinese food and this place always hits. The boneless spare ribs are great and you get a good portion. The general Tso Chicken is good too (can be a little spicier, but I'm aware the local audience). And so far haven't had a bad order. read more

For years, this place was our go to Chinese take out. Tonight's meal was terrible. The wonton soup was cold, very gelatinous ( like pudding thick) and had practically no tofu, etc in the "broth" or taste. The Cold Noodles were very pasty, no pea pods or carrots or any vegetables except celery(celery?!!!). The Buddah's Delight was floating in over 1/4 oil. A few years ago, China Moon used to be one of the better take-out Chinese food places in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood area. But ever since it changed management, the food hasn't gone down-hill -- it has plummeted. Now I would put on on par with Rice Inn (which, per my Yelp review, is pretty much only good at cooking rice). Yesterday I ordered Broccoli with Garlic Sauce and Chicken Lo Mein. I love Broccoli with Garlic Sauce - it's simple, it's flavorful, it's somewhat healthy. I was craving it and couldn't wait to open it and dive in. In retrospect I should have thrown it right away. What greeted me when I opened the container was -- no joke -- a quarter-inch or more of yellow oil pushing down the brown garlic sauce. I needed six paper towels to mop up the grease before I would consider eating it. Once I did, the flavors were actually good, but by then the craving was gone, the delight was gone. I ate it because I was hungry. The Lo Mein was better than usual, but lacking flavor so I mixed it in with some of the de-greased garlic sauce and it was much better. This isn't an isolated incident. The other times I've ordered from there I found the food greasy, lacking in flavor, etc. (especially the Hot & Sour soup which used to be pretty good but now is not good at all). This is sad because I loved China Moon, and I liked the owner (though I never had any interactions outside of his restaurant). There was DEFINITELY a higher level of quality in both the cooking, the flavors, the recipes and the presentation under the former regime. I would be surprised if the new owners actually eat the food that they cook. The only reason I went to China Moon this time was because I was pressed for time and didn't want to drive to Main Star in Scotch Plains -- which is MUCH better than China Moon and Rice Inn, and they let you order online. After this I won't make that error again. China Moon has definitely waned. read more

The food was nothing special. I have certainly had better Chinese food. Purchased a combo and added the soup which they gave a larger portion of soup than expected which was nice. I ordered chicken with cashew nuts and asked for no veggies. I order the dish in this way all the time from many different restaurants and for the first time ever I was told I would be charged $2 extra bc there would be "more chicken". Looking at the dish if there was more chicken, then I assume there would be barely any chicken if I received vegetables. Also, I ordered a chicken noodle soup and asked for no chicken but miraculously I didn't get money back for not getting chicken, only got charged more for supposedly asking for more chicken. I used to be a faithful customer to this establishment however over the course of time their service has degraded along with the food quality. The chicken wings are now super greasy fried too hard almost burnt. The oil they use is very old as it can be tasted.i am just disappointed. I will no longer be a faithful customer. I've moved on. I was so famished this evening so I checked yelp for reviews on local chinese restaurants. I was sort of excited because I was trying a new place since moving into the community 3 years ago and China Moon had a few positive reviews plus 4 stars. I was very much disappointed;1st, I waited almost 1 hour and 15 mins because the delivery man lost my # then the food was even more of a disappointment. The chicken wings looked like they were on steroids with alot of fat, not muscle. The wontons were so dry(never had any like that before) and the general tso's chicken was so spicy that it would knock you off your feet and the broccoli wasn't edible, it felt like I was chewing on branches. On some dishes, there's a very big difference between takeout Chinese restaurants and sitdown restaurants. When you get food from a takeout place you shouldn't be experimenting. Stick to what you know you like here. For example, get common things. I tried the pan fried noodles, but that was the wrong thing to order here. Don't. I wouldn't try duck here. The pan fried noodles were more like the kind of crispy noodles you get for free and put mustard or duck sauce on. They're not supposed to be that crispy after being dipped in sauce. They are supposed to soften up immediately when dipped in sauce. So this wasn't real pan fried noodles and it wasn't worth getting. But the veggies that came with it were fine, so it wasn't a total loss. It came with a big portion of veggies and a little beef, chicken and shrimp. I enjoyed that. I threw out most of the pan fried noodles and instead dumped the free white rice in the sauce, and that was good. read more

After reading 3 interesting reviews about China Moon, I had decided to order from there. To be honest, my order tasted like CRAP. My Wonton Soup wasn't cooked fully and my Sesame Chicken tasted like CRAP. I bet that the person who did my sesame chicken doesn't even know how to fry the chicken properly because the sesame chicken I got were dry.They really need to clean their kitchen cause it's seems nasty to me. This place has the worst customer service ever. Called and ordered cold sesame noodles, 2 minutes later I went there because I realized I never had it and wanted to ask more before they got to make it (also told me 15 minutes). Guy that works there who has been rude before said oh its already made. When I ordered it I already asked them to put very little sauce which they already didn't do. I asked if they could please remake it with the sauce on the side. His response was no I can't have you re-order it. I asked why, his response was because you already ordered it and I can't remake it for you. Seriously what kind of business is that! This place should get new ownership with better service!!!
