My favorite restaurant to go to and grab some food on the weekend. I love their general sales chicken. They cook really fast and the service is impeccable. Every time I go it reminds me of being back home in the Bronx just your typical Chinese restaurant good food, good vibes and you always feel welcome when you come there. Food became inconsistent and some workers have questionable hygiene. The person making the food took one of those steel wool things threw one on the ground, stomped on it with his shoe and put it back into the cooking wok to clean it. I saw it with my own eyes and I couldn't believe what I saw. I wanted to keep going to this place but I can't overlook those things. read more

i must have ordered food from here a bunch of times. scheduled delivery on their site and it arrived right on time handed to me by one of the owners! they use BEYOND MENU and only a $2 delivery charge NO service fee! the food was real hot and fresh a lot of unique vegetarian choices, the broccoli and bean curd was perfectly fried in a wok big soft chunks with a thin sling thick sweet tangy sauce coating the easily form but chewy broccoli and carrots! cold sesame noodles had just the right amount of paste plain lo mien was plentiful and flavorful not greasy the beef teriyaki on a stick was massive 4 pieces tender and juicy as so many local chinese restaurants have similar menus but each one has thier own signature sauces and flavors unique to each restaurants chefs and No. 1 Restaurant ranks with the best and unique! and their prices are atleast a few dollars for each item read more

Their professionalism during my order was on point 5 But the food just ok I'd give 2 Very simple basic order Pork fried rice and chicken fried rice large mixed veggies with garlic sauce . The rice was extremely bland and they charge 1.00 extra for A Egg! Quite possibly the worst Chinese food I ever ordered. The egg rolls were full of salt. The hot and sour soup was watery and tasteless. The Sesame beef was as dry as can be - my wife had Sesame Chicken that was equally as dry. The sesame chicken tasted like overdone chicken nuggets with a bit of soy sauce on top of them. I placed a delivery order about an hour ago. I got a shrimp and chicken Mei Fun. The lady asked me if I wanted a drink with my order, I hadn't mentioned anything but after hearing they had ginger ale I decided to spend the extra bucks ? I got a Pepsi and I don't even drink soda but I am upset that they also didn't include utensils or ANY type of sauce to go with my noddles ? Tasty food and friendly staff. While the portions didn't feel as large as others mentioned, the combo came with a large egg roll and enough rice to make it filling. I could see a challenge with delivery and timing when things are busy - which I think stems from the manual order process. As it stands now (or maybe only the day I visited) the counter employee will circle menu items on the menu itself and pass them to the cooks. As anyone who has ever filled in a scantron knows, it's easy to put bubbles in the wrong spot, so accuracy could be an issue. The result for me was that my order was wrong when I came to pick it up. However, they made a fresh (correct) order in under 5 minutes to fix the problem. I'd say this place is a decent spot for your Chinese fix, but make sure to open the bag and check that what you wanted is what you got! read more

I've been living around the area for 20 years. How have we not noticed you? Prolly passed by this small place a hundred times, not knowing that they do serve the best Beef with Broccoli and Tung Ting Shrimps. Beef was very tender and delicious. Delicious!! You don't often find Tung Ting Shrimps on a Chinese take out, which is a favorite of mine. There's no scrimping on their shrimps- huge and plump, and delicious. Their Egg Foo Young is so fluffy and slightly thicker than most I've had. So, we've been happy with all the dishes we've ordered here. I purchased a small roasted pork fried rice from here a few days ago and it was pretty decent so decided to get a large today but to my surprise there was barely any pork in a large fried rice and the rice didn't feel dry enough, felt like it was cooked with too much water but the lady is super nice. The owner is very personable, prices are reasonable, and the place looked clean, but the three dishes I tried were disappointing. The wontons in the wonton soup were undercooked and gummy, and the broth was tasteless. There was no roast pork or green onions in it. The Honey Chicken is just fried breaded chicken nuggets drizzled with honey. Nothing else in the dish. The Pad Thai was chopped up, mushy noodles in a sauce which vaguely tasted like Pad Thai, but was bland. There was scrambled egg on top, but no bean sprouts, green onions, tofu, or chopped peanuts. I tossed the leftovers. Perhaps some of their other dishes are better but I would not order these dishes again, and I'm not rushing back here. read more

I order from here about once every other week. Consistently decent Chinese. My favorite in the Scotch Plains/Fanwood area that delivers. Hung Shanghai is higher quality but they don't deliver and prices are higher. No. 1 dishes are all decent. The people are super nice. I am disapointed always in the Shrimp w/ Lobster Sauce - but I am somewhat picky. I wish we had a 5 star worthy delivery place in the area as I am a huge fan of Asian food. read more

Flavorless and stale! This place was recommended so I thought I'd give them a shot. I ordered crab rangoon and chicken with mixed vegetables. I live 5 minutes from this place, but when the food was delivered my order was lukewarm at best. The crab Rangoons were barely warm and they were chewy and stale. There was no flavor and the sweet and sour sauce that came with it was so watered down it also had barely any flavor. The chicken and veggies also didn't have any flavor! I went to this place after I had class in scotch plains, since I'm from summit I had no idea where to find good food. I saw this place and said, "why not?" I was not disappointed, the food was great, but the atmosphere was even better. The owner, an older women, was extremely nice. She made sure I was happy. We had a conversation, had a nice talk. She even offered to deliver food to my school if I ever wanted to eat. If you're in the mood for Chinese and you're around the area, go here. You won't regret it read more

Awful quality. I ordered General Tso's chicken and my wife had another chicken entree. After getting the food home I bit into what I thought was chicken and spit it out. It was nothing but gristle and seemed like knuckles and elbows of the chicken, far from quality meat. What I was sold most places put in the trash and serve the quality pieces of the chicken. I threw everything in the trash. Afterwards my wife of spectacle about the quality and ate half of her meal and trashed her's as well. The real kicker was my wife was vomiting after about 1 hour. I don't know what they sell here but I would say it's not edible especially after the government changed its regulations last month that they no longer have to disclose where meat comes from. Do yourself a favor and pay a few dollars more for quality before you ingest this garbage. read more

Solid, average Chinese food. The best I ever had? Nope. I got wonton soup, steamed chicken and broccoli with brown rice. The wonton soup was ok, the chicken and broccoli was good and a good amount for the money. The crispy noodles that usually come with Chinese were blah. My husband got the General Tsos and was happy with it. He also liked the spring roll he ordered. I am a vegetarian and Susan the owner of this place is very helpful and will recommend items of the menu that are veg friendly. The Singapore Rice Noodles is spicy and nice. It is more of a take-out place but they do have 2-3 tables with chairs if you prefer to sit down and eat. Fast service and owner is very friendly and courteous. read more

I go here once a week and they are awesome. Good manners, patient, and decent price. The best thing is they have Katsu chicken and Katsu fish. I have never seen a Chinese restaurant would have that but Number 1 did. I love the Katsu fish because its fresh, big amount and it have many vegetables under the fish. Sometimes I don't like broccoli but its okay because Susan makes special dish for me without broccoli in it.
