Salmon sushi (up close) very fresh.

First time here. A nice medium sized venue inside of a small strip mall, so there's a parking lot with a good amount of parking. A nice warm interior, & polite staff. Japanese style decor, although I swear the Woman on the large portraits is a Non-Japanese Woman dressed in a stereotypical Japanese fashion. I found that oddly amusing. The sushi was very good & fresh. I had the salmon sushi, volcano, foxy lady, & spring breeze rolls. Nothing this time genuinely "wowed" me, but I would happily come back and try more from their menu. An epic meal from Nick at the bar last night! Started with Kumamoto. Oysters, followed with beautiful Abalone onto hamachi scallion hand rolls. Main course literally jumped out of the water onto the plate. Freshest sashimi I've ever experienced. Look at the bowl of beautiful fish! Bravo Nick and team.

The worse part of this restaurant is irs BYOB. Ha! The eel avocado roll was on point. The mango avo was good. We got a spicy tuna roll for free. It was excellent. The bento was best ever. Super juicy teriyaki chicken. The fried rice was a $5 upgrade. Very good. The dumplings were very good. Huge fan of this restaurant and its 4 mins from new home.

Fresh, tasty, reasonably priced sushi that will please most people. It's not high end but is much better than other spots in the area. The location is easy to access and has free parking, making it easy to pick up lunch or dinner take-out. I ordered the two sushi roll lunch special, which comes with a choice of either soup or salad. I appreciate the effort in packing the sushi. It was attractively displayed; they gave plenty of wasabi, ginger and soy sauce. The place is very clean and tidy and doesn't smell of fish. The staff was efficient. It's nice enough to eat in. The rolls were very fresh. This will be my place for takeout sushi.

***4 1/2 stars*** Very pleasant way to kick off the weekend. I stopped by for lunch on Friday with my top tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality. I'm not THAT familiar with Westfield beyond a few random cameo appearances (one of which was to visit Whitney Houston's grave), but I expect a certain level of bougieness when I'm here. Sushi & Asian IS definitely a little higher class than a lot of the sushi establishments you'll find in a strip mall (in Westfield, even the strip malls are kind of gorgeous), with a darker, urban interior. There was a mesmerizing piece of art on the lefthand wall that depicted a female samurai balancing sushi rolls on a sword that I couldn't take my eyes of. We were seated and attended to promptly - given that we were literally next to the front window, there's an argument it was a little TOO dark in there, especially for lunchtime. Minor quibble, if that. Anyway. Even for a sushi place, the menu is really extensive here - even if you're not a raw fish enthusiast, there's a lot of different directions to go. We split the Rock Shrimp app, which was a nice surprise. It's not unusual for restaurants to overly fry this dish, but this was perfectly done - crisp but not overwhelmingly so. A nice mango flavor to it, which is one of my favorite seafood accompaniments (and something I often request in sushi rolls). For my entree, I went with a salmon/avocado roll and an edgy special roll, Beauty and the Beast, featuring a myriad of fish - spicy tuna, spicy salmon, "regular" tuna and salmon, along with yellowtail. Very tasty, and I liked that the special roll was significantly larger than the normal/classic roll, which isn't always the case. The fish was very fresh, and the special roll had a nice taste profile - lot of different players on the palate. My chum prides herself on often getting "real" sushi when we go to places like this and opted for the a bowl of sashimi. If she didn't like it, I certainly would have heard about it during the meal and for a considerable period of time thereafter. The presentation on that was interesting - it's hard to see in the accompanying picture, but there was a boat underneath the fish, which I think are usually reserved for gigantic parties but I like that they have single serving options available here. Nice touch. It's honestly unusual for me to have a service issue at a sushi restaurant (which makes me think it's tied to culture), and this was no exception. We were a LITTLE on the clock for a quiet work from home Friday so any delays would have been more noticeable than usual but it was well paced from beginning to end. Our waitress was attentive and stopped by regularly. After side-eyeing a scrumptious looking deep fried ice cream dish at a nearby table I wish we'd had a little more time to play with, but alas. The curse of adulting. Definitely worth another visit though I'd recommend avoiding the downtown Westfield traffic situation if we can. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that that artistic masterpiece on the wall ends up at an upcoming townwide yard sale.

A little bit of everything from this wonderful little spot made for a great night of take out! It's my favorite thing to order way too much food for take out and pick at it all night. And of course have plenty of leftovers for the next day. Our order from Sushi & Asian Kitchen was: Seaweed salad, salmon martini x2, pineapple fried rice and basil fried rice, salmon avocado roll, eel avocado roll and a spicy salmon roll (lots of deep breaths between courses). Everything was seriously beyond wonderful! I could have eaten 10 of the salmon martinis, they were 100% my favorite of the night. If you like raw fish salads (avocado, cucumber, light sauce, etc) you'll love this. It comes with some crunchies too, so we got one with and one without for my friend that is GF. Other standouts from the order: literally all of the sushi, but my favorite is always eel avocado. The fried rice were both great as well, but I think the sushi stood out to me more. We ordered for pick up and it was ready when we arrived but I don't think they offer delivery. I think all of this came out to around $80 and it was really easy to order online. This is now a favorite spot when I am in the area and I am not sure if I would try anything new or get my exact same order forever and ever.

I've been on a Sushi&Asian Kitchen kick for my weekly special rolls fix. The restaurant doesn't deliver and doesn't appear to be on any of the food delivery apps, but they're located in a shopping mall outside of the downtown, so it's very easy to park and walk in. The rolls are ready so fast. They've consistently been ready like 20 minutes after placing the order. I've tried sweet plus, spring breeze, salmon amazing, foxy lady, tuna amazing, summer, sunshine, and spicy girl rolls. They've all been so fresh and delicious. The only roll I wasn't crazy about was the sunshine roll because it had WAY too much jalapeño in it, making it too crunchy and spicy. The rolls are on the smaller side for special rolls. Also, they don't give you the shrimp tails in the rolls containing shrimp tempura, so you're getting less shrimp than at other places. I can easily look past these small shortcomings because the rolls are SO good. Be sure to pay cash because you get a 10% discount.

Quality was fairly good. It's not high end sushi but prices are reasonable (at least at lunch) I did the chirasi bowl and was hungry after due to the portion size. Next time I will try the bento box instead. Curbside pickup during covid lockdown was very easy. Paid over the phone in advance and food was waiting at table by door when I arrived.

This warmly decorated new establishment that now sits where a sushi place previously was is a great surprise when you walk in. Greated by jazz standards and a really nice staff this place is fantastic. Let the chef guide you and you will be happy you did!!

I was in the mood for Japanese food so tried this spot. When I arrived I parked in their parking lot in the plaza. When I walked in the waiter sat me in one if the back booths. I liked the ambiance and the music they played. For dinner I ordered the vegetable gyoza, spring rolls, miso soup and vegetable udon. I liked the vegetable gyoza and spring rolls. The miso soup was ok and I didn't care for the vegetable udon because it had a funny taste to it. The bill was about $30 altogether which wasn't bad. All in all I had a decent experience.

While it's not quite on the level of New York City's omakase spots, it's solid for New Jersey and worth a visit if you're in the area. Standout bites for me were the Otoro and Chu Toro- both beautifully fatty and flavorful - as well as the Hamachi with shishito and the scallop topped with crispy garlic. Other highlights included the Madai (seabream), barracuda, striped jack, and a satisfying bone marrow served with toast. I also tried Kumamoto oysters for the first time in years, and they were a lovely surprise-cleaned properly, topped with a light sauce, and incredibly fresh. The Hokkaido uni was creamy, though slightly more briny and bitter than I personally prefer. Mr. Bin himself mentioned that uni flavor can vary depending on the season. Throughout the meal, Mr. Bin was present and helpful, guiding us toward which fish to try. The fish is delivered fresh twice a week, and the quality really does show. That said, it's still missing that little extra something that sets top-tier omakase apart- the purposeful dot of yuzu sauce, the hidden dab of wasabi under the fish, or a crisp garnish that adds dimension and surprise. Some sushi have this, some don't. The technique is good, the fish is fresh, and the experience was enjoyable- I'd return- but it's a notch below the more elevated experiences you can find in the city. Hence 4 stars. Solid though, and friendly. Nice ambiance inside too, Saturday dinner time it filled up quickly so I recommend a reservation.

We had to wait ~15 minutes for a table to open up before we were able to be seated despite having a reservation. For appetizers, we had the vegetable gyozas and fried wontons. Both were pretty unimpressive and I wouldn't order them again. I ordered the tempura udon for my entrée which came with a bowl of miso soup which was pretty good. One of my friends got the D.E. warrior roll which was quite pricey (~$30) and was chewy since all the meat was cooked. My udon was decent and came with two shrimp tempuras and two broccoli tempura as well. However, I wasn't a fan of the spinach that came inside the soup. Overall, we had a satisfactory time at Akai but we don't think we would return.

It was my first time doing karaoke and I honestly don't know that I would do it again. We booked a karaoke room for an hour for 6 people on a Thursday evening, and while the singing was fun, the service was below subpar. When we arrived, we did not have a full menu available to us in the room, so it took a few mins to get our order in. Our server kept close tabs of every minute in karaoke, but not the food. It took over 60 minutes to get our wings! Apparently there was some sort of mix up in the kitchen & while we were understanding, what threw us for a loop was that even though our wings were DELAYED, our server was hesitant to offer complimentary time in our karaoke room while we waited. Right at the 60-minute mark, he was quick to offer two options - our wings to go or a table in the dining room. In the end, we had to negotiate an extra hour in the karaoke room since our food took SO long to come out. When paying the check, we were surprised to see a charge for food we never ever received! I'm super disappointed that they tried to take advantage of us, when we were very understanding of their mix up. In my opinion, servers could use a lesson or two in customer service. Garlic fried rice was okay, but not the best. Also seems like they don't give you a side of pickled radish at this point, but maybe that's because we're in Jersey. Also the kimchi fries weren't what I expected. What the fries were crispy and tasty, they just give you a tiny cup of kimchi cheese sauce. Maybe I'm spoiled, but I expected the fries to be way more loaded. I ordered for pickup and it did take a lot longer than expected. I also felt sorry for the hostess, who was running around trying to help. There also was 5 people just standing around chatting, but the music was just a tad too loud to hear anyone trying to get their attention. I'm sure dining in would be a chill vibe, but can still have that and have it all together yk? Last thing is I definitely asked for bacon mustard sauce and heard them confirm over the phone, a bit annoyed they forgot that!
