Do NOT order food from this Chinese take-out garbage If there were an option for zero stars, I would rate it a zero. Do not order from this restaurant. I order Chicken and Broccoli dinners. The chicken was tasteless and chewy. It was like rubber. I called to tell them that I was dissatisfied with the meal and the guy on the phone refused to provide his name and said there was nothing he would do since they felt there is nothing wrong with the chicken and the problem is the customer. I paid $20 for an order that I've never paid more than like $13-15 anywhere else. They also use too much of this spice (that I don't know the name of) but has like a spicy licorice type smell/taste to it. It was just WAY too overwhelming. read more

I have been to China One twice recently. The first time I went there I was impressed by how clean the dinning area was However, I did not eat there I took my food to go. Later that night, I did not feel so great, but I thought I was just getting a cold or something. The 2nd time I went there and ordered the food, I got so ill I have to take two days off of work, do to a severe case of food poisoning. My advise, pass on going to this establishment! I have been in contact with the health department and they will be investigating. If you decide to try this place anyway, best of luck. At least you will have two hospitals to choose from (I would recommend Yale...but if you are not going to take ny advice about not going to China One...well you can fill in the rest...lol read more

I've eaten a lot of Chinese food over the years and I've never gotten Chinese food that smelled like, um, and I'm going to put this politely....like a portable toilet baking in the hot summer sun. That is to say until I visited China One. Some weird type of foul smell emanated from tonight's chicken lo mein. It stunk to high heaven. I tried eating a little bit of it, hoping the smell was some strange spice or something, and it tasted really blah. It had no flavor. So I'm sorry to say I won't be returning back to China One. Especially after reading that other guy's review where he got deathly ill. That's no surprise. That could be me tomorrow morning. If I don't pick up my phone tomorrow somebody call an EMT. read more

This place has gone downhill dramatically. The girl who answers the phone is defensive and extremely rude. I ordered food for delivery. They were 30 minutes later than they said, which isn't even my complaint...they sent me the wrong food. When I called to have them send me the correct item, she asked me to come and get it! She was giving me a very hard time and was more than rude to my husband when he went there. This is not the first time this woman was rude! The food has been terrible too. We've been getting take out here for over 10 years, but lately things have been changing. We pretty much order the same things - lo mein, shrimp fried rice, spring rolls and dumplings - so we are really able to see the change. The last few times we ordered, the lo mein noodles have been thick (like udon, almost) and over cooked - very mushy. This last time, I decided to indulge and get fried veggie dumplings, but rather than then being deep fried, they had been pan fried - just on the bottom side, and they were burned, to boot. Everything is pretty much tasteless. Really nothing to write home about here. Time to find a new Chinese take out place. read more

We get food here all the time and it is the most consistently tasty Chinese food in own. There are 2 other Chinese restaurants in East Haven on Main St., this one is the BEST. I don't know why the other reviewers are so negative. I think they were already sick before they ordered food. They needed Pepto . We love China One, and wish them many years of success. The food here was SO BLAND. It's like she wasn't even trying. The lady was training her 8 year old son and had him take my order. I don't really care, he did a good job and got it right. She smiled at me after thinking like she probably did that he was soo cute. No lady, he is not just take my damn order and make my food.
