we first ate at this restaurant five years ago when we came to town. After moving here, we decided to try it again. It wasn't very good. It was bland not much to it. I kept reading reviews saying how wonderful it was now. So we went last night. I have to say it was incredibly good. We both enjoyed it and look forward to eating there again!! I'm sensitive to sodium and typically chinese is do salty. Pleasantly, I could actually taste the ingredients. Egg fro soup was beautiful. We had the family Dinner S for two. I have been in orfino for work, the last 2 weeks. Orfino is a pleasant and quant small town America. I first thought where do I eat dinner. Hotel on main street recommended a few places. One being the China palace. So ok down the street I went. Walked in and was pleasantly surprised at the friendliness of the atmosphere. The owner chyanne greeted me in a friendly voice. I always appreciate small town nice. I placed my order and it was delivered to my table quickly and hot off the stove. First bite I thought, this tastes pretty good. I am not a person who eats much food. By second bite good turned to delicious. I ate my entire meal. Service was mediocre. The waiter was super friendly and nice just not attentive. There was one other table there so not like she was super busy. We had to ask a few times to take bowels and plates. The food was less then impressive, it had an off taste. We ended up sick off of it. My chow main had about 6 noodles in it. This is arguably the best Chinese food within hours. Good, quality, fresh food is not too common in Idaho. Not sure why the mostly older population here has such mediocre tastes but the restaurants here reflect the demand. China Place was an exception. I wanted to leave a review as a visitor from a large city who needed to eat dinner while in beautiful Orofino. The other reviews sum up the restaurant quite well: large portions, good (if busy) people, and doing as well as they can with what they have available. So, my big city brethren, perhaps simply enjoy eating far too much knowing that you almost certainly won't be up all night because you ate here. - That sounds harsh but it isn't meant to be. This is by far our favorite restaurant in Orofino. We always start with the spring rolls and are never disappointed because they arrive before we can even drink a glass of water! Then we finish with veggie fried rice, veggie chow mein and sometimes sweet and sour Tofu. We were traveling through the area and were very surprised to find this good of a Chinese restaurant in a small little town. My wife and I love good Chinese food and we weren't disappointed with either the quality of the food or the service. Both were excellent. I don't know what is wrong with Katie and Jessie. I love this Chinese Palace! Even though I arrived late afternoon for my meals, the food was prepared very well. The veggies were perfect, not mushy as I expected for the time of day. The chicken and pork dishes were very tasty. The service and ambiance were excellent for such a small town establishment. Come with an appetite! My favorite thing about this place is their portion size - they're huge. After a long day of work, this really hits the spot. They season their food well - I ask for mine to be "spicy" everytime, and I'd probably call it more of a medium. Dont expect gourmet Chinese food- this is a remote town in Northern Idaho! Not very pleased with the service that I received. I ordered a dinner for 2 or more people called the Dinner T and asked them to substitute the almond chicken for the lemon chicken. Along with a few other things as well. It was a called in order for to come and pick up and take it to go. When we got their to pick up our order we were told that they are not able to substitute the items off of the dinner t menu at all and then they proceeded to give us a number 10 which was enough food for 1 person and not for a family of 3. Needless to say this will be the last time they my family and I will come here. They should have at least called us and asked us how many people were planning to feed instead of making us whatever was the closest to what we were trying to order because we had to end up going and getting Mrs. C's and Subway for the other people in our family who didn't get the Chinese food that we ordered. This was extremely not convenient for the person who went to go and pick up the food and very unsatisfying for the people who chose to get the little bit of food that we did receive. We were even willing to pay a difference if their was too be any. The time before this experience they were able to do the dinner t for 3 people and substituted the almond chicken for beef and broccoli, so we were very displeased with this experience. read more

I called in a take out order for 2 #1s, wontons and a #9. Crispy noodles. First off, didn't get my wontons or crispy noodles. 2nd this is the worst Chinese food I have ever had. The sweet and sour sauce is nothing like any sweet and sour sauce I have had before and the Lemon chicken taste like the sweet and sour with lemon juice added or lemon pie filling....pretty bad in my opinion. read more

We were traveling down US 12 and were wanting a place to eat and the reviews for the China Palace were good. We though Chinese food in Orofino? So we walked in and were overwhelmed with the choices. OMG both our dishes were great. Everytime we travel by Orofino we make sure to stop by and eat here. Try it and you won't be disappointed. I have been here so many times in the last week a total of five :) I absolutely adore this restaurant Tammy a few of those times! She's amazing at her job and always moving a million miles an hour to provide great service! As I have worked in restaurants in the past I know how valuable of an asset she must be. Every time I go in their I get the #9 Dinner with hot and spicy chicken and almond chicken as a substitute from the sweet and sour! :) Some times I get the BBQ Pork Buns as well which is enough to blow your taste buds out of this world! This place is nasty! While the service is good, the food is horrible. I had beef (I think it was beef) that not even razor blades could have cut. The chicken was pieces compressed together. I did not know it was possible to make Chinese this bad. Run - do not even think of eating here. read more

This was our first time in Orofino, the town is charming. I was in the mood for Chinese, husband went across street to Mexican. He enjoyed his meal. I on the other hand was very disappointed. Sweet and sour prawns were doughy, almond chicken gravy tasted like canned white gravy, fried rice was bland, chow mein was so-so and almost all noodles. The egg roll was passable. Okay, I've had a lot of Chinese food in my life. This place is hands down THE best. It's the only reason we ever go to or stop by Orofino. The sweet and sour pork is to die for. And we love Hazel!!! She is always upbeat and friendly. Definitely one of our favorite places to eat! read more

I wish we would have gone across the street to the Mexican food restaurant. The food was not bad but it lacked flavor. The soup tasted like Campbell's minus the noodles. The beef and noodles my husband had tasted like canned beef broth with spaghetti noodles and thin slices of beef. My fried rice was dry. The sweet and sour chicken was good. I will not go back again.
