Not a big fan of their 40-year-old soda fountain, or the booths and everything else that is dated and exhausted from overuse including the plates, cups, and silverware, but I can't think of a more value-oriented buffet than China Queen. read more

Love this place. I generally avoid Chinese buffets because the food is so poor, but this place was really excellent. Good hot and sour soup and eggrolls to start. They had numerous entrées, including all my favorites (beef and broccoli, general Tao's chicken, chicken and mixed vegetables, etc. The rice was fluffy and fresh. There were several types of fresh fruit for dessert. I stuffed myself and could've eaten more. Oh, and you get soda and hot tea for free too. We came in for the lunch buffet about 1230pm on a Wednesday; prices were $13 for me and $10 for each of the kids. Let's start with the good: the black pepper chicken and General Tso's were pretty tasty. The bad: nothing was fresh on the buffet and they didn't refill any of the choices during the time we were there. See the picture for what the choices looked like. What can you say about another Chinese buffet restaurant other than that the China Queen is a fine spot for a quick and easy lunch or takeout. It looks like any other place, you've got a counter for takeout orders or you can slide into the dining room on the right for a sit-down meal. Service is quick and the buffet is fresh. It's not the biggest one I've seen but there's plenty of choices. There's sauteed shrimp, salmon, salt and pepper chicken and all the other chinese basics. But in my opinion, a bit above average in quality compared to other places I've tried in the Raleigh area. China Queen is just one of those places that serves a good meal at a good price. It's relatively busy at lunch time but I've never had a problem getting a table. Given that it's right next door to work and I've eaten there well over 20 times, I thought they deserved a shout! I had walked into China Queen at 11:02am, so two minutes after they had opened for business. I opted to try out their buffet rather than the menu. Food was still being cooked as many of the trays were still empty. However, what caught my attention was the Chicken Teriyaki, it did not appear fresh. I took three pieces anyway only to determine that they were not fresh and likely from the day before (very dry and chewy, considering they had just opened for business). Some of the other selections like the shrimp and noodles were definitely fresh, but at that point I was turned off by the fact that they were feeding patrons food from the day before. Instead of enjoying my meal, I was consumed with the thought of what else on that buffet was old? I can appreciate China Queen trying to save money, but not at the expense of customers' health. read more

This restaurant has quick turn around time for take out or dine in orders and the food is fresh. Their lunch buffet is only on weekdays until 2pm. They have delicious spicy fried fish on their buffet. I love this place to pick up dinner on the way home. read more

I am so sad to announce that one of my favorite Chinese buffets has taken a nose dive. Today I went there for buffet takeout. I was surprised when there were only a few customers in the dining room. I have been coming to this place for years, and I have never seen it this empty during the noon lunch hour. It wasn't until I was paying for my meal that I noticed that they had a "B" sanitation score. I don't think I've ever seen a place with a B before. One thing that may contribute to the decline is the fact that they have had a high turnover in staff. The people that used to cook and serve now, seem to be new. I'm a little surprised to be writing the first 5* review for CQ. Then again, it seems the others here have only tried the buffet (which I had once and thought was quite decent). I'm more a patron of the a la carte side of the restaurant, where the $4.95 lunch specials are an excellent deal. The food is fresh and flavorful, and there is a decent amount of quality meat and veg in each of the offerings. I haven't found many better deals or better lunches in the area. read more

I live right off of Lake Wheeler and have been consistently disappointed by the chinese place next to the Food Lion. I was so thrilled to find China Queen, which far surpasses the other spot. Their chicken lo-mein (ask for extra vegetables) is excellent. I also really enjoy their crab rangoon and their steamed dumplings. I haven't gotten around to trying anything else but overall, this place is a great spot for Chinese takeout. read more

China Queen is the place where my NCSU friends and I will go for lunch-buffet-meet-up. The shrimp, sushi, dessert are decent. They are not too sweet or greasy. No extra charge for fountain soda. If you don't go for buffet, I highly recommend Vegetable Chow Mai Fun (fried rice noodle with vegetable). The dish is surprisingly clean and elegant without much grease. The texture is crisp. The flavor of napa cabbage and egg explodes. Don't add meat or chicken. You know most meat in these kinds of Chinese restaurants are not that high quality. read more

The China Queen is located near by where I work and consequently has become the destination for many a work related/or at least co-worker filled meal. Their buffet is reasonably priced and they have a pretty decent selection of food items available. I'm one of those Chinese food eaters that always sticks by the old standards (sesame or orange chicken, egg drop soup, egg rolls) so I haven't had a chance to really partake of all the variety, what I have eaten however has been very good. A lot of people from nearby office visit the weekday buffet, and there are couple good reasons for that. Lets admit, the buffet is pretty small, but whatever dishes come out, all are very freshly fried and cooked, solid, good quality, I havent found anything that tasted old (sadly, can't say that about other asian buffets). The crab rangoons, seafood-cheese thingy, all are strangely addictive, and best of all, that black pepper chicken. I dont know how they do it but the fried chicken morsels are a textural joy unlike any other. Another good thing----3.99 a pound carryout of the buffet. Definitely good deal for lunch. read more

A good place to get Chinese once in a while especially for vegetarians. Vegetarians try Kun pao Ben curd with fried rice, its really good. The good thing is you can call them up in advance and they will have your order ready in say 15 mins. read more

China Queen is a pretty average Chinese buffet. The food on the buffet is generally pretty fresh and hot. I think the highlight for me is the sauce they have for the dumplings. After eating in dozens of strip mall Chinese food places over the years I know what to expect from a place such as this. So even with my low expectations this place failed to impress. They had the buffet which was packed but I just wanted a General Tso's meal. The chicken was obviously yesterday's buffet food(or even older) and was very tough and chewy. Even the pork fried rice was gross and its early impossible to mess that up! But the egg roll was good- so there's that. I ate less than 25% of my meal and threw the rest away. I love coming here for take outs and sometimes the buffet for lunch. The buffet is small, has the basics like sesame chicken, lomein, crab Rangoon, teriyaki chicken. Not many variety but enough for a quick lunch and price is good. There's also some sushi, fruits and deserts. For take outs I always like to get lomein, sesame chicken or the chow Mai fun with a cup of soup. I love their wonton soup and the hot and sour soup. My husband and I discovered China Queen when we lived on Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC. (10 years ago). The food was/is spectacular and the service was/is spectacular!! The prices are reasonable and the food quality is superior. About 6 years ago, we moved to Creedmoore Road, about a 20 minute drive away. We've tried other Chinese Food restaurants in our area but nothing compares to the fantastic Chinese Food at China Queen! After only a week or two of living on Creedmoore Road, we've gone back to China Queen and we've been going there ever since. My husband LOVES the Chicken Curry. He eats Chicken Curry once per week and he likes to have it made a special way, which China Queen accommodates him. He even has a special 'code word' for his Chicken Curry and all the cooks there know what it is. :) I love everything there. My favorites are the Vegetable Lo Mein and the Spare Ribs, which are always so tender. I also love the Beef Broccoli. We plan to move to Wake Forest soon and we will STILL travel to Avent Ferry Road to get Chinese Food from China Queen! It's THAT GOOD!!! FH read more

I go here for lunch sometimes and i love the buffet, it has good sushi on it and it's all you can eat. They don't have fancy rolls so don't look for it there. The staff is nice. The food is your typical Chinese food too. read more
