This restaurant has been on my list to visit for a couple of years. I was finally able to go. It was fine. Nothing spectacular. The reason I gave it 4 stars was because the dumplings were disappointing. They were not warm and the dumpling dough was thick. We got the David's dumplings and the crispy spicy wontons. The wontons were better. I liked the crispy dough but they weren't spicy at all. The entree meals were better. I had the Malaysian curry soup which had a nice kick and was steaming hot. It had lots of different toppings in it which was nice. My husband got the fried rice. It was also really good. The Chinese sausage complimented the rice well and there were plenty shrimp in it too. If I went back I would forgo the dumplings and just go straight to having the entree. read more

My family and I came for dinner on a Saturday night around 5 pm and we were seated right away. The restaurant is spacious and there is a big bar area with a lot of seating. Our waitress was friendly and the food came out really fast. For appetizers we shared the edamame and for drinks we tried the tropical fruit sake flight which was delicious - the peach was my favorite! For entrees I ordered the ginger garlic chicken. The sauce had a lot of flavor and the chicken was tender. I also tried a bite of the kung pao chicken, sesame chicken, sesame tofu, and the curry noodles and found each dish to be full of flavor. Came here for lunch on a Wednesday with my daughter. It was super quiet. The decor is lovely with brick walls and pretty lights hanging from the ceiling. Service was great, very attentive. I recommend the wonton soup and the Malaysian curry with roti to start. I would skip the half fried pork dumplings which are kind of like doughy meatballs. The waiter said they are boiled then fried on the bottom. They were too dense for my taste. I also ordered an extra Malaysian curry with roti to go as well as sesame tofu with rice and egg roll. I came here on a Wednesday night with coworkers for a bite to eat. The ambiance of this place is really cool. First off, as soon as you walk into the door, you are immediately greeted by floor to ceiling brick walls and arched doorways. This had to have been an older building converted into a restaurant. That was really cool! I ordered their green tea and the presentation was really cool. It came out in a white ceramic tea pot. The tea wasn't very hot though, that was a little disappointing, as it was a cold night and I was expecting something warm. For my appetizer, I ordered their wonton soup and that was absolutely delicious. For entrees, my coworkers and I split their moosho pork, with steamed buns along with their sesame chicken. The flavor of the sauce of the sesame chicken dish was very good, and of a good consistency, but I found the chicken to be a little overcooked. On the flip side, I have nothing but great things to say about the moosho pork. The buns were also the most perfect pairing. I knocked off a star for the lukewarm tea and overcooked chicken, but I definitely would come back here again and try something else of their menu, the next time I'm in town! read more

Me and my best friend visited this place recently because we saw it was getting traction from social media. One comment even said that all the food on the menu was delicious, well let me tell you. The only thing that was good there was the pork dumplings and the Arnold Palmer that I had. I ordered the garlic and ginger chicken that came with fried rice. The fried rice tasted like eggs and the chicken was too salty and super chewy. My friend ordered lo mein noodles and she said her noodles were salty (they were I tried it too). We ordered the Shrimp Rangoon as an appetizer, and it's basically a piece of fried shrimp with a LITTLE cream cheese inside. So don't be expecting a giant piece of crab Rangoon like we were. The taste was still good, but it was not the cream cheesy goodness we were expecting. For entrees I got the sesame chicken (YUM), and my husband ordered the Kung Pao chicken. It was not that spicy like the menu says. To me, it tasted so much like cashew chicken. Our waitress was nice, and the restaurant itself was so cute and intimate on a Saturday evening. Not a fan of leaving 1 star reviews but here we are. Wish I could say I tried the food but sadly due to the poor customer service we didn't get the food we ordered. We called and placed a take out order at 7:45pm. We were traveling from Wilmington to Winston Salem and wanted some food for when we got there. We explained that we had an eta of 8:50 just before they closed. She initially said the kitchen would be closed by then and had she left it at that all would have been fine. However we asked if they could make the order before the kitchen itself closed and pick it up at 8:50. She said that should be fine and took our order and gave us a total (glad we didn't prepay) Pulled up to the restaurant at exactly 8:50, doors locked, lights off and no one answering. Closing time on the window was 9:30 and listed online at 9pm. I've closed restaurants before if the kitchen closed at 8:30 I find it hard to believe they closed and cleaned that quickly but I digress. I really don't think she had any intention on making our order since it seems like they closed early. Next time just say no to the order don't leave people scrambling to try and find a place to eat. The restaurant is spacious and kept nice. The staff was friendly. We were seated and it took at least 15 mins or more for someone to help us. The food was hot and came out pretty quick. The dumplings were stuffed with meat and was filling. I didn't care too much for the oyster sauce, it was too salty but I ended up dunking my dumplings in ginger soy sauce which was better suited for me. The salt and pepper chicken was cooked perfectly however felt it could use a sauce. It was my first time having anything with sake and it was good, still not sure exactly what sake is but it taste Asian to me with mixture of apple and wine. Just visited last week with my adult daughter. We walked right in at about 5 pm on a Saturday. We were greeted immediately upon entering and sitting right away. We ordered two Saki drinks , which were served quick. We placed our orders, I ordered shrimp pad, Thai and my daughter ordered a noodle dish with tofu. We were staying at the DoubleTree on Hillsborough so this was just a short 2 minute walk away. It was our first meal during our long weekend trip to Raleigh. We came around 6PM for some apps before exploring the city. It was pretty empty with only 2 other parties there while we were there. Came here on Sunday with a big group of friends. Portion size is pretty decent, as my friend says the dumpling appetizer is "hardy"! We all enjoyed our dumplings and noodle dishes. The spicy level is not very high so I would suggest asking for extra spicy if you truly love some heat! Service was great. They only took a few mins to set up tables for the big group and was able to get us all separate checks without mistakes. I was extremely pleased with my experience here at David's Dumplings. It's hard to find really authentic Asian restaurants in the area, so I was happy to have stumbled across it. Parking is on the street and you have to download an app to pay for it but it's cheap. In a great location on Hillsborough near a lot of other food places too if you want a drink, desert, or whatever else after. The food was fast and hot, and our server was super friendly and kind which was great. REALLY wanted to try the dumplings but they all have pork in it, which I don't eat, and they don't do any substitutions. I love roti and their curry was good and had ground chicken in it (I think) but either way I always get roti whenever I see a restaurant serves it and it's great. The chicken satay was average and the chicken wasn't that flavorful but the peanut sauce served with it was definitely the best part. We got chicken pad thai and the moo shoo with beef. I loveeeee pad thai but wasn't big of a fan of theirs because it was very curry-flavored which is fine but not the usual for pad thai. The moo shoo was great!! I've never had moo shoo before but if I came back I would just get this and the roti. It was superrrr tasty and I loved putting it in the bao buns too. First time we have visited this restaurant, but not the first time tasting their food. So, here goes. Quaint. Tidy, and tucked away in a college neighborhood. All great things. Was there a wait to be seated? There was not - but, that didn't mean this wasn't a great spot for dinner. Our first course was (of course) their hot soups. I had Wonton and my husband had David's Hot & Sour. So good. We ordered Jasmine tea - took awhile to steep, but isn't that always the way with tea? After soup, we had Fried Vietnamese Vegetable Spring Rolls. These were good, and we also had David's Original Half-Fried Dumplings. You get five of these big guys. We split the Sesame Chicken and Beef Lo Mein Egg Noodles. Even the steamed rice was delicious. Tender chunks of chicken in a sweet sauce with small stalks of broccoli, and the beef was tender and easy to chew. I would have to say that their portions were small. We did not take anything home with us (at other Asian places, and for the amount of money we spent, we would get a second at-home meal). Not the case here. You get fresh, hot food or average portion size, and you leave what's left (empty plates). Staff were accommodating. We were told at the time that their systems were acting slowly, so in order to process our order, everything had to be entered all at once. My husband and I are never rushed, and we don't enjoy everything coming out of the kitchen at once. However, we were informed of what they were doing to get hot food out to us. We appreciated this information. I would say, "go here and try it!" The "industrial" decor is fitting for its location. Everything is casual - even the person seating us wore jeans and sneakers. Parking is a bit tricky, especially if you're not familiar with the area; street parking if you're lucky, but there's also free parking lots that are about a 3-5mins walk from the restaurant. Food was excellent, light and refreshing! Our server was kind and attentive throughout our meal. During our visit, there was a bit of a wait due to the kitchen getting backed up, but was quickly resolved! With the space and atmosphere they have, you're able to dine solo, have a date night, come with friends, or even hold work related meals here, and your experience will be the same...amazing! read more

We were in town for a medical appointment so we decided to give David's a try and we were impressed! First of all I loved that it was within walking distance of a lot of the hotels and it made it easy for us to take a stroll and not worry about parking. The restaurant was very clean and industrial chic and I felt they were doing a great job with Covid protocols. They were very accommodating with my seafood allergy and made me feel that they had prepared it safely. The dumplings were hot with fresh ingredients and served quickly. Firstly, the place is hot and has a bad smell. We came in at 7 pm and it was dead. We sat at the bar. We ordered the shrimp Rangoon, it was fine. We also ordered the pad Thai and sesame chicken and that's where we had some issues. The pad Thai was not pad Thai, it was bland and tasted like curry. The sesame chicken is $19 and they serve very little of it on a plate surrounded by 6 pieces of broccoli (trying to make it look nice when in reality they're just cheaping out). Went here for to go for dinner very recently. I ordered the half fried dumplings and the scallion pancakes. The order was really and the front when I came to pick it up. The hostesses were very friendly and helped help the door for me when I came in. Now to the important part which is the food. The dumplings are large and you get six large dumplings for a very affordable price. The value is top notch. The food is full of flavor. Now to the part of why I took off one star. Unfortunately the dumplings are extremely greasy. I've never had dumplings that were that way before. It's good quality ingredients but covered in grease. This was the first time to David's Dumplings, and I will say that I was not impressed. The server was nice, and the place appeared to be clean, and the food came out really quick. The appetizers were the Won Ton Soup, and the David's Original Half-Fried Dumplings. The entrees were General Mao's Chicken, and David's Fried Rice with Shrimp & Chinese Sausage. The Won Ton soup was tasty, and the dumplings were not bad. The chicken tasted and had the texture like it was cooked earlier, and just reheated. The Fried Rice was not good at all. The shrimp had a definite off taste, like spoiled off taste, so they could not be eaten. The sausage seemed overcooked. While there I was watching ESPN on the TV that was at the bar. Then a gentleman that worked there started to flip through the channels without asking if anybody was watching it. So I have no idea how the game ended. I was looking forward to going to David's Dumplings for a while, but now I am not sure if it was worth the wait. Atmosphere: David's Dumpling & Noodle Bar has a sleek and spacious interior. We went for a late lunch, so the restaurant was pretty empty while we were there. Service: Our server was friendly, and our food came out pretty quickly. Food: We started our meal with David's Original Half-Fried Dumplings and the Wonton Soup. The Half-Fried Dumplings were okay and were neither excellent nor bad - the taste was what we expected, but the texture was slightly gummy and soggy. The Wonton Soup was good and probably the highlight of the meal. The wontons were flavorful and the broth was warm and satisfying. For our main dishes, we ordered the Hunan Beef and the Malaysian Curry Noodle Soup. The Hunan Beef was pretty standard except that it lacked the spiciness described on the menu. The dish in turn was on the bland side, but at least they were generous with the beef. On a similar note, The Malaysian Curry Noodle Soup was labeled as "slightly spicy" on the menu. As fans of spicy food, we asked for the curry to be more spicy, but we were hardly able to taste any spiciness in the dish. The sauce otherwise had a decent flavor and we did appreciate the generous portions, which allowed for us to take home some leftover sauce to cook with for another meal. Overall: We were overall not entirely impressed by David's Dumpling & Noodle Bar. While there wasn't anything overtly negative about our experience, the lack of spice and any real "wow" factors led us to a mid-level rating.
