I have to say--I'm pretty impressed with this spot. The Chinese-American takeout I grew up with in Chicagoland is different from what I've found on the East Coast and throughout the Mid-Atlantic, and I've been chasing that nostalgia for a while. Panda House brings a little bit of it back. Let's start with the egg rolls, because they deserve their own moment. These things are massive, clearly homemade, and packed with flavor. This is not your typical Food Lion strip-mall egg roll that's 97% bland cabbage and 3% mystery meat. These are full-on Flavor Town (yes, Guy Fieri would approve). Easily some of the best egg rolls I've had--not just in Raleigh, but across the DMV and Philly. The rest of the menu holds up as well. Everything I've tried has been solid, and the portion sizes are generous--definitely enough for leftovers the next day. On top of that, the prices are very reasonable, which makes the value here hard to beat. Final thought: This is my go-to Chinese takeout spot. I literally drive past other places to come here--and that says it all. Do yourself a favor and make Panda House your go-to as well. It's solid. read more

Stopped in for a C16 (Sesame Chicken), Curry Chicken and barbecue spare ribs. It took less than 10 minutes for all of the above to be prepared and boxed up for transport. Note that they do not include cutlery or sauces, so it was good that I asked before I left so that I could get what I needed. Unpacking was easy. Portions were good, quality was there and the spare ribs were boneless! Double plus awesome. This was my first time trying Panda House. I did take out and decided to order the lunch portions of General Tso's as well as the Pepper Steak. I was hoping that the General Tso's would blow me away since it's my favorite dish, but unfortunately it was very chewy. The Pepper Steak was tasty but a bit soggy. This place has been around for years and I was pleasantly surprised to see the rating. It took about 20 minutes for our order. We had the chicken and broccoli, wonton Soup, general tso chicken, and a shrimp egg roll. Everything was rather tasty, soup was perfect and the general tso was flavorful but was extremely chewy so that's why I only gave 4 stars. Panda House is a neighborhood Chinese restaurant that caters to the locals with a standard template Chinese menu. The food is prepared in view of the customers and the ingredients are always fresh. I won't say it's the most amazing Chinese food I've ever eaten, but it has been our standard, go-to restaurant for take-out for the past ten years or so. The staff is personable and friendly. We've been putting in the same order for so long that they know exactly what substitutions we like (white sauce instead of brown sauce) and have no problems preparing them to our tastes. It's a family-run restaurant with the young kids helping out with small tasks at times. The majority of their business is take-out. The dining area is overly lit with Formica tables and isn't conducive to comfortable privacy. We have eaten there in the past and don't have any problems doing so, but only because we want to have a chance at eating the shrimp in our dishes. (Instead of taking it home and having the cats insist that any shrimp are theirs) Panda House continues to survive in a shopping center that has seen a number of empty storefronts in recent years. Across the street is another shopping center that all but died when the WallyMart moved further down the road. (In that same shopping center a Chinese buffet came and went as well.) This means Panda House clearly has a loyal following that likes their food as much as we do. read more

Just came into Raleigh for training. Was looking for a place close to the hotel for dinner and located this great little Chinese place. I ordered the small house special lo mein and egg drop soup. The food was well prepared but nothing was seasoned except the General Tso's chicken, and I don't mean just lack of salt, there was no salt, no pepper, no herbs, no spices on anything else. The food (General Tso excepted), had no flavor. The wonton soup was bland, the wontons had no texture or flavor and turned to mush in your mouth. The moo goo gai pan tasted like over boiled vegetables and chicken, completely tasteless. They forgot the sweet and sour sauce for the sweet and sour pork. It was incredibly disappointing. And to top it off they didn't have a working credit card machine so my wife had to leave and go get cash. If it were my business I would be ashamed. read more

We are always in search of great hot and sour soup. As first time diners here, we weren't sure what to expect. It turned out, the soup was very good, some of the better we've had. Our entrees were also very good, a nice variety of veggies and good sauce. So why not 5 stars? The egg rolls were the worst I've ever eaten, worse than frozen grocery egg rolls. Yelp failed me on this one. Thought the ratings were decent for a take-out looking place. Our family intended to eat in... we walked in the door and all of us immediately commented on the flickering lights. 2 of us had to eat outside for fear of getting sick from the lights. The menu was pretty much what you'd expect, but I couldn't think to order because I thought I was going to stroke out. I ended up ordering chicken & broccoli, and went outside to wait. It's the usual Chinese takeout menu, but the food is very tasty. They know me by now because I'm there usually once a week or more. I can't get enough. Maybe it's the MSG. idk I can tell that the lady who runs the place is very organized. She packages every order neatly and presents it to the customer. I mention this because I haven't encountered the food leaking or anything in all the times I've been there. She deserves praise for her attention to detail.
