Well I gave one star because there was no way to put 0. Food was burnt and either soggy it was like a microwaved dinner gone very badly. I was just amazed how poorly everything was seeing that they have some how been the best in Abilene for up teen years as I realized someone must have had there pockets filled to vote this way. The service was ok we got an extra napkin but no refills on drink or even a second napkin when asked. As we were leaving told cashier our thoughts of visit and she got almost hostile as to us complaining about not being able to stomach the food as many patrons near our table were suggesting that this place has gone down hill in the last few months. But very long story short I will never return to this establishment ever again. read more

The manager is fantastic. If you need anything, he will take care of you. China Star is 1 of 3 of my favorite places in town to eat. I love the beef and broccoli, teryaki chicken, and the egg rolls. It's because of China Star I started to love chinese food. There is however one tall guy who works as a server there and he sucks. Don't expect any refills from him. Not sure why this place still exist. Food is not good at all. We were there around 1:30pm the rice was hard and tasteless. The food was ehh ok. The choices available were minimal and the waitress was not friendly and only came to get our drink order .. Delivered the drinks and that's the last we saw of her. We will not ever go back to China Star . read more

This is my FAVORITE place to visit when I'm in Abilene. The buffet is always freshly stocked with an awesome variety of individual ingredients to allow you to create your own perfect Chinese cuisine, and go back and mix and match it to your own liking. The service members of the staff are always AMAZING. Truly a great dining experience where you know YOU are the reason they are there, and YOU are the reason they remain in business. Great people. Love them even more than the food -and that's really HARD. So much more I could say, but mostly, I think it's about the people.... LOVE THIS PLACE. :) read more

This place has been good over years, but unless you order fresh not buffet, the lunch buffet is your best bet.

Great place! I have been coming here for years and has never failed to be a good meal at a decent price. Definitely deserves its no.1 status in Abilene. They have a good selection to choose from and it tastes pretty good. If you have complaints they listen pretty well and they always keep the food fresh and hot. So, i have been before, and it was ok.. this trip was far less than ok. We grabbed lunch on a weekday and the place was packed. The sign boasts about best chinese in Abilene, so the other half went but not thrilled about the buffet part. It was edible but the Thai places in the Country Hearth Inn & Suites over off of Southwest and the loop is better by FAR! Going back to that spot from now on! read more

The inside of this place definitely does not match the outside - it's really nice inside. They have a large selection at their buffet and I was generally surprised at the food. Many of the crispy chicken items were a bit gummier than I expected and a lot of the veggies were overcooked, but I feel that it was all intended to be that way (I like my sesame chicken and beef and broccoli crispy). Came to Abilene to visit family. They took me here for lunch. It was an OK food. I love mussels and the mussels (with cheese on top) they had were dry (maybe from sitting under the heat lamp for a LONG time). The one that stood out for me was the shrimp with pepper flakes. I am not sure what it is called, but that one was the bomb. It was cooked right and tasted awesome. The rest...like I said, just OK. read more

Something has changed! When I get a chance to go to Abilene, I've always stopped at CS. This past Monday I went in about 3pm for a quick bite. The steam tables appeared to be on but everything I got was cold. Hot and sour soup was still great, but I'm not sure that's enough to get me to go back. read more

They have good everything and they keep your glass full. Try the salmon its really good and I don't even like salmon. Also excellent shrimp and catfish. they pretty much have it all, best buffet in town for the money. read more

The buffet is casual family. The All-You-Care-To-Eat lunch is reasonably priced at $7.99/adult. Drinks are extra. Soup is included. (Dinner is around $11.00) There are many choices of common American-Asian fare. Try the fried wonton. It is slightly sweet, as such it can be eaten as a dessert. Quite unlike others I've had. The service is always friendly and the employees are diligent about remembering patrons and entertaining children. I was recently impressed with one waitress's ability to promptly diffuse tension generated by a screaming little one at a nearby table. Seating: I personally recommend dining on the side of the building where the buffet is located. As one previous reviewer noted, there seems to be an offensive odor (which I think is moisture) on the other side. Also, you are packed in tight on said side. They offer takeout buffet (ask for soup to go with it) which is awesome. You can feed three people for less than $10. read more

It's not anything super fancy, but it's a buffet and a good one at that. The waitstaff is always super friendly and helpful, even when there are people lined up out the door. We never have to wait too long to be seated. It's a great place to go when you're craving chinese food when money is tight. read more

Came for the lunch buffet after a couple year absence. I think it will be a longer absence this time. It was 12:45 when I went in. I would not have thought so much of the food could be that dried out before the lunch hour was over but it was. If it wasn't in a sauce it was hard and dried. The spring rolls and egg rolls were tough and stuck to the pan. The dim sum were very tough and hard. As was the fried shrimp and the sweet and sour chicken. The won ton soup was either very watered down or they forgot to put salt in it. The fried rice was OK, as were the dishes with a sauce base although a couple of them were flavorless. Kudos for no longer allowing smoking in the restaurant. Last time I was there they still did. The desserts were good. The service was excellent, very friendly and frequent. Overall not a very good dining experience. I will try next door. read more

My wife and I love this place! There are so many choices of delicious Chinese dishes but the fried catfish is still my favorite! All the staff are very attentive and nice. The owners are always there making sure everything is perfect. Jack takes time to talk with customers and seems to remember everyone by name, (very impressive!) The food is great and the prices are very reasonable. What more could you ask for? We love supporting local businesses and will be back for sure! read more

Ate here on the recommendation of local friends, and was VERY pleased! The food was all hot, savory, colorful, and delicious. The selection was incredible! Soups are all good, also. Prices are right where you would expect for an all-you-can eat buffet. Service was prompt, accurate, and quite friendly. The restaurant itself was well-kept, landscaped, and clean. The only thing that kept it from earning that last, covered fifth star was the restrooms needed attention pretty badly. Overall, a great dining experience. Recommend. read more

This place is the worst Chinese buffet I have ever been to. We read about it on several websites and ppl. seem to like it, so we thought we'd try it out. We stopped here while traveling, thinking it would be better than fast food but faster, with kids, than a regular restaurant. Well, we wrong on both accounts. We didn't get water until 30 mins after we had been seated and ANY fast food would have been considerably better. The food was old, slimy at best and some of the sauces and a quarter inch thick crust on them! We barely eat and all still felt terrible after it.
