Eleven years since I reviewed one of my favorite restaurants. Sunrise just keeps making me happy. There are new owners, or the kids have taken over, because I no longer see the staff I'm used to. But the food is still just as good. There is such variety in Chinese food, I try to get something new every other time. But usually, my favorites keep,drawing me back. The House Special Lo Mein noodles, and the Singapore Mae Fun are so good, I get them over and over. The roasted pork egg rolls aren't quite as good as they used to be, but I still get them. The interior of the restaurant is quite entertaining, so when it's Chinese time, come to Sunrise! Closed on Tuesday. read more

Well let me start by saying that I know that people make food close to what it is if they feel like changing it up. But im not sure what is going on here! I ordered wonton soup, which was dark brown broth with 2 wonton, no vegis of any kind. Dissapointed. Ordered vegi chop suey and we got vegis in some type of soy and Teriyaki sauce, also dissapointing. Ugh! im a little upset cuz I was really looking forward to my favorite dish, mushu chicken. Very friendly staff. Very nice atmosphere. Can handle a pretty large group. Not a buffet, but food tends to be buffet quality; which means it's a bit hit or miss. Best mid range joint I've tried. Beats out the place on S 1st closest to old Westgate mall location, Buffet Asia near Goodwill and VA CBOC, and Golden Chopsticks (which is easy since Golden Chopsticks is 1 star at best). New to the area and went to sunshine for some Chinese food ... the crab ragoons that we ordered did not have the slightest bit of filling, it was 99% fried wonton. The wonton soup had the same problem... just wonton, filling was nonexistent, the broth was cold and flavorless. For the main dishes, we ordered Szechuan chicken, it was hot, fresh, flavorful, and it had a good meat to vegetable ratio. Also, ordered the beef lo mein, it was delicious. The fried rice was mid, nothing to rave about, (which came with both dishes). For a couple with appetizers and two main dishes, it came up to $30.65 The atmosohere was okay. Fraud and theft! I went here the other day and spent 45 dollars. Today, my transaction was updated to 90 and I was double charged. When I called, they gave me the runaround and then they called me back and said they couldn't find the order. They then told me to just go ahead and call the police, cursed me out, and told me not to come back. These owners have no issue stealing from their customers. Do not let them access your credit card information. I am out almost 50 dollars and my account was drawn negative because of their theft. Now I have to go to the police station and call the credit card company. read more

I am sad to say that I will probably never get to eat the BEST lemon chicken I have EVER tasted that is served by Sunrise!!! It is by far my most favorite Chinese food favorite EVER!! I am more sad that I won't return because I live in Phoenix AZ and my mother-in-law passed, so I will not be back to Abilene to visit ever her ever again. My very awesome mother-in-law and I shared a LOVE for their lemon chicken!! We looked forward to our visits so that we could get our fix of lemon chicken together!! It was part of our routine for many years!! Now that she is gone, I miss her so much, but I can't help but think about how much I will miss the lemon chicken as well and our experiences together. Actually, there are many items that we tried prior to discovering the lemon chicken, and all was fantastic, but the lemon chicken became an addiction and we didn't order anything else once we discovered it!! I've been on a journey to find good, basic Chinese food in Abilene and I've finally found some in Sunrise! I ordered the Cream Cheese Rangoons, the Hot and Sour Soup, the Chicken Lo Mein, and the Kung Pao chicken combo plate. I did take out, so I can't speak to the ambiance of the restaurant, but the service was quick and the staff was friendly. The food had its highs and lows. The egg rolls are DELICIOUS. So were the cream cheese rangoons. The lo mein was also very tasty. The hot and sour soup didn't have much flavor, so I wouldn't recommend it. I'll have to try their other soups in the future. The Kung Pao was nice and spicy, and the fried rice was pretty good. All in all I will definitely go back! read more

I rarely give terrible reviews but, I'm mind blown that this place has 4 stars. The exterior is dark and dingy; I wondered if it was even open. I got a sweet and sour chicken combination player and an order of crab rangoon. 1.) the chicken was so greasy you could bite it and taste the oil as it ran down your chin. 2.) the egg roll was broken and covered in the same swampy grease. 3.) OK the crab rangoon. I wish I'd taken a picture of this because it was truly unbelievable. It was greasy as expected but, that wasn't the craziest part. They put a pea sized amount of filling in it! The Egg Drop Soup was good but the Crispy Noodles that comes with it were stale. The Egg Roll was small and very oily. I had the Roast Pork Lo mien, it was Ok but there was very little Pork. One guy was serving so he was very busy. The men's room could use some attention, No Soap, Towels or Hot Water for hand washing. I have eaten here about a dozen times now and every time has been quite good. The restaurant has a pleasant and peaceful atmosphere. The food is the best Chinese food in Abilene, hands down. The prices are comparable to any other Chinese restaurant, the sweet and sour chicken is perfectly puffy, the fried rice is always perfect, the crab Rangoon is perfect, the beef and broccoli always has enough sauce, and my personal favorite, the sesame chicken, is the best I have ever tasted. Went through the drive thru thinking it would be faster. Nope, took my order and paid. Sat for about 10 minutes. They asked me to pull around. I did and sat there another 10 min. So I went inside. Great place, tried it today after reading reviews here, so a big thanks to previous Yelpers! As always it was my Wife and I that tried this place together. Between us we tried the Fried Wontons for an appetizer, then Generals Chicken and Mongolian Chicken combinations.(see those items in the photos I uploaded). Like most Fried Wontons there wasn't much meat in them but as an appetizer they hit the spot and tasted great. Both chicken dishes were excellent in taste and quality and the pork fried rice they came with was also really good! We opted for the egg rolls with the combinations since a lot of Yelpers seemed to like them. Well they were so good we ordered another one each. I'm not sure if they were made in house, but they tasted like they were home made. Service was very good. We went on a Sunday early evening. Just as we got there another group was just leaving and then we had the place to ourselves. There was just one young man attending to us that was friendly and attentive. We both felt a little bad because we had both been out in the sun and was drinking like there was no tomorrow. Still, he refilled our drinks many times quickly and before we were out most times. I had heard many great things about Sunrise, so my family had to check it out. We were greeted and seated promptly. There were only a handful of tables occupied, so it was nice and quiet. I ordered the chicken lo mein dinner combo, that also included an egg roll and pork fried rice. My husband ordered the lemon chicken combo and got the crab Rangoon instead of the egg roll. The egg roll was very good and came with a yummy sauce. The food came out very quickly and looked great. Portions were nicely sized. The lo mein was a little greasy, but was delicious. The fried rice was flavorful and the best I've had from a Chinese restaurant in town. My picky 1 1/2 year old loved it. Our bill came out to less than $20 before tip. The potions were generous enough that we both took a box home. We will definitely be repeat customers. read more

Sorry, we ordered take out based on reviews of friends. We got Egg Drop soup it was to die for, excellent flavor, full bodied chicken and egg drop. On today's cold rainy day this was a win-win. Wive got Kung PAO chicken, peanut warning, but oh so good. She got white sticky rice. I got the Seafood delight, due to Gary's recommendation, with fried rice.
